Question: does she also have a bark collar on? I have a German Sheppard/ Husky mix. He is always barking at other dogs, looks for other dogs to bark at.
im struggling to train a jack russell to walk to heel. He ignores food while outside and chases anything that moves. I cant prong collar train him out of it because the speed he runs he would impail himself if he had the prong collar on. How do i get him to walk at heel?
I tried this on my little goofy Shorky. Didn't do the prong collar but did the turns, stops, treats, and verbal marks. She learned to walk beside me in less than 5 min and kept it up through the entire 30 min walk even though I ran out of treats. She's 8 years old! Thank you!
@@exoZelia The prong collar is absolutely necessary PROVIDED you also use a taser, a cattle prod and (just in case) some rat poison. Cesar Millan approves this message.
Hi there ! I am from Germany, been a K9-Police Officer for many many years and i can tell you, this is exactly the right way to treat a dog during a walk ! It is all about leadership and reward in the right time.. you walk the dog and not the other way around ! ( but i have to add that not only treats works as a reward, but also a praise ( "good boy/girl " or just pet it slowly on the side of his head, or a toy which you can use to play for a few seconds.. after that short play take the toy away and put it back into your pocket and the dog will just be in attention mode ) This is the way i was taught decades ago and it works every time i get a new dog. This video is an excellent demonstration and it is nice to watch the learning effect on the dog. You can see similarities when you watch Dog packs or even Wolf packs out in wild nature. The packleader always gives the direction and forces the others to follow. Submissive dogs are the best dogs ! And those dogs are happy in their submissive role ! Nothing more to add !
You literally changed my life. I have a 3 year old husky (from a puppy) and is now 3, who pulled my arm off, is so reactive and I dreaded every walk. She was out of control and we were one pull away from an accident. I had 2 trainers who told me to use positive reinforcement only, and for every single walk consistently used the stop start technique with a gentle leader to no avail. She was becoming unwalkabke and I felt horrendous I was not able to give her the exercise she deserves. I watched lots of your videos, deciding I needed a new method. I can honestly say, by following your technique just with a slip lead instead, I was able to get her to heal (and walk slightly behind) in 10 minutes tops. I then spent about half an hour cleaning it up and she can now greet a dog calmly instead of lunging at it, stays in heal when a cat walks infront and doesn’t get distracted by wildlife. Her attention is on ME. I am so excited to be able to take her on lots of walks as that’s why I got a husky! Genuinely, you’re a lifechanger.
So what you're saying is exaggerated for sure. No sentient being perfects a 180 degree transistion with zero hiccups being led by someone who has zero experience training. Save the embellishments for the cocktail party.
I can’t wait to be able to take my dog out on proper walks and not just potty breaks. Would you say you were able to take your dog on walks without the prong collar at some point because I don’t plan on using it forever.
@barcrafty817 Growth is determined by the mindset of the recipient. You don't need formal dog training experience to know how far is too far or what to do in certain situations. You needknowledge, experience helps you refine those skills.
I have a husky girl 5 years and she was pulling me every walk. So glad I found this channel it took me 3 walks till she got it locked in. Big thanks to you man you’re incredible!!💯
Three walks... really??? As a dog trainer, it usually takes me about 5-10 minutes. I'm not saying this to shame you... rather to applaud you, but to give you some helpful hints. Make sure that your corrections are active pops, or snaps, with slack on the line, not just pulling in the other direction. I guarantee you'll see a BIG difference.
My husky girl is also five years and the fact that you got this down in three walks is inspiring and motivates me to not feel like it’s not an impossible feat. We’ve only been together for three of those years she had a lot of personality and behavior already established but as we built trust and bond, I hope we’ll get it down so quickly too!
We're from Spain, Border Collie, 1 year old. 5 U-turn corrections over a 10-15 minute training walk, with a standard flat collar. Unbelievable difference. What a pleasure to walk her now! Going for another training walk tonight. Thank you so much! Thank you! 🇪🇸
@@nancymarroquin1762it can work but you can really really hurt her and/or it could take longer. I understand it can look intimidating to use a prong collar but if used correctly it can be one of the best tools to training your dog.
@blackwolf1310 Agreed. I'm getting one for my dog cuz she's a puller. She literally has hair loss under her collar from the pulling. Plus with all the research I'm doing right now, I Don't see any proper trainer hurting their dogs. In fact the dogs look quite comfortable
@@JuanRamirez13725 Here in Spain soonly will be illegal to sell and use prong collars. Reason? They are EVIL. It's not the tool but the way you use it. It even could be usefull as a defensive tool against other dogs attacks if you put the collar with the spikes pointing out. I don't understand this stupid laws... In fact I'm actually using a choke chain collar with my dog, and it's the most effective tool i know to train any dog, if it used properly.
So I had my dog about 3 years. Always pulling me or anyone wanting to walk her. I purchased the 2 collars you recommended and followed your steps to a t. Within 15 minutes, she was by my side walking, stopping when I did, and even paid more attention to me when others were walking by, some with there dogs. She's almost a totally different dog! Thank you!
The very important thing people should know about dogs is the stress/chaos in their body when they are pulling on the leash or running around untrained. When the owners do the training, they take on the alpha role, and the dog doesnt have to have the stress of being in charge, they are just doing the jobs they are told to do and trusting you in your position. Its a much better mental state for them to live in. Very encouraging seeing all the comments about people doing this with their various sized dogs without prong collars and seeing success. Cuz the correction can come from a tugging. I had a daschund that i took a couple walks to train to walk with me, not pulling, but it only took a couple walks not with me to get back to old habits. Consistency is key.
Imagine correcting your dog from possibly running into a life-threatening situation in a matter minutes and the dog is okay and healthy. I dont know why people are against this great advice
Just tried this with my 5 month old Aussie, no prong collar or anything. Just her normal flat collar, some hotdogs and a couple u turns. Actually like night and day, this dog is an absolute gremlin and pulls everywhere without stopping. She listened super well the whole time it was crazy!
I’m doing the same with my whippet. Honestly, most breeds don’t need pinch collars. And if a couple days or weeks is too much to train a dog, then fuck, don’t get a dog. Most behaviors won’t become habits unless you practice them a lot anyway. This 20 minutes won’t last long. So basically this husky PUPPY is damned to wear this pinch collar until eternity cause she won’t learn how to walk without it.
@@vanclemmonsdamned to wear a pinch collar for eternity😂 his whole goal is to get your dog trained to a level you can walk off lead perfectly with no concerns
@@jamesdixon9918 well good luck counting on that. Lots of dogs (if not most, if not all) realize when they aren’t wearing something that previously caused them harm, and when they know it’s not there, they act up. So you either have to reincorporate the tool in your training from time to time so that the dog doesn’t forget what the deal is or they will try to go back to their old ways slowly but surely. Obviously this heavily depends on the breed but as you can see, Garret still uses these tools even on his older dog. Dogs aren’t stupid, and if they are independent minded and stubborn enough, you will always need the tools, and you will always need to keep them in check. So might as well not rely on an aversive tool.
@@vanclemmons I couldn’t agree more that from time to time you will have to top up that memory in their head, the same way that you have to practice anything in life to maintain a high level skill. But that doesn’t mean the dog is “destined to wear it for eternity” as you stated in your earlier post. Simply topping up that memory every now and again is more than enough for a well trained dog to maintain that standard.
@@jamesdixon9918 obviously the eternity part was exaggeration, I didn’t think I would have to explain that. However, my point remains, i.e. these videos offering a perfect solution in 5-10-20 minutes are complete lies. You don’t resolve a problem like that in minutes, because it takes practice, like we established. Sure, it will work when the prong is on the dog’s neck because it fears it. But if a behavior needs practice anyway, why would I resort to aversive, pain-inducing tools when a flat collar can do the work just as well in most cases?
My 5 month old lab watched this entire video with me, and that night she did a perfect loose leash heeled walk with me for two miles. I’m being 100% serious, thanks you. We will watch more videos.
You crack me up. Thanks for the laugh. I get one of our labs to heel perfectly and the other 2 forget what they need to know. Also, my husband is their defense lawyer, our grandson their paralegal 😂. It never dawned on me to sit them down and make THEM watch the video. 😂😂. They’re literally 3years, 2 years and the pup is 11 months and the 3 year old and pup are batshit crazy. My extraordinary labs all passed in the last 18 months. The Queen was 16.5, the black was only 7 and the yellow only11. These 3 need to step up their game. 😂
Just tried this, wow. The difference in 15-20 minutes was amazing. Four u-turns, a couple of reminders walking beautifully. He's a two year old rescue, we're in New Jersey. Thank you.
The U-Turn is something new, but we always used the sudden stop to make sure our dogs were paying attention. It's funny how many people are amazed when you start, stop, start, stop, and the dog keeps in pace with you, like it's something unheard of. A vibrating collar is also a god-send. The dogs can be 50 meters away, and be called back in the middle of playing, without injury, chasing, or yelling at your dog.
Legitimately. Honestly. 7 minutes. Seven minutes and my 2 year old German shepherd was so well behaved, i could lay the leash on my open palm and he didn’t pull on it. Life changing. He is such a good boy after SEVEN MINUTES.
@elitistcentral7596 it's so funny how confidently you say nonsense. German Sheppards ah yes the quintessential sled dog... and being able to heel any dog isn't more or less impressive by breed. Like people they are all different even if they look alike.
9 month old Pit bull - blue heeler mix Pulled like crazy before prong collar, tried flat collar, no pull harness, everything. Instant change today. Walks like a service dog. Thank you for educating people on how useful this tool can be.
@@gmsaenz1222 he is a bit of a barker when I get home and he’s in the kennel. Other than that when he barks outside we’ve conditioned “hush” as his command to quiet down. This works for him but may not work for all barkers as they may just think you’re barking back at them.
Thank you for sharing! I have a pit bull mix and goes great on walks (where it’s empty) but in a busy place is so distracted. Gonna have to try this prong collar
i have a red pit. she's now about 14-15 months old. we don't walk on leash often because we have fenced yard. but when on leash, she's a puller and she is strong. she may be making a little progress but i may have to result to prong collar. she is also an escape artist.
I am so happy I ran across your videos! Took my 8-month lab from yanking me around all over the place to walking right next to me in 10 minutes!! Thank you very much from myself and my two dogs! Walking is so much more enjoyable for the three of us now!
Did you use the prong collar? I have a lab that I need to train. She’s too strong for me and pulls so hard on the leash. I was embarrassed at the vet yesterday with how little control I had.
Previously, my husky pulled so hard he pulled me down... Once I broke my ankle, the other I broke my nose and cheek. Never thought this would work. I was ready to give him away. In 20 min, a miracle!!! He is like different dog!! We enjoy walks, leash is drooping where previously it was massive pulling with me pulling back with all my strength. He is constantly in the zone and looking back at me and paying attention, no longer running at everything from a squirrel to a falling leaf. Thank you so much!!!! A totally new relationship with Dakota!!! 😘🥰
OMG!!! Finally, the prone collar came in yesterday, we were only able to try it today for the first time...what an immediate change in the energy! This is the same Husky that we rescued at the beginning of this past November; she was extremely unfocused, unruled, and incredibly stubborn, I didn't want to give up on her, but I felt discouraged by her behavior. I grew up having dogs, even large dogs, they were all very well behaved and training them was easy; I never thought I would ever be faced with this type of challenge when I decided to save this dog's life. However, the walk this evening was so much more pleasant and relaxing, I felt so relieved to see the change in the energy of our dog the very moment we put the prone collar around her neck. Both my hubby and I binged watching your video yesterday and today, just to make sure we would follow your instructions correctly. OMG! Utterly impressed with the results, in much less than ten minutes the dog was in full attention mode; needless to say, the walk was nice and smooth, very a few reprimands in between, and not as many treats required for rewards either, pets were sufficient to enforce her good behavior. While walking around the block, we encountered a few dogs barking at us from behind their gates, and we were glad to observe no reaction on her part, she ignored the barking dogs, she had her focus on my hubby all the way through, and she was rewarded each time with pets. We also encountered an outside cat who followed us home; at first, she spotted the cat, but right away her attention turned back towards my hubby on her own. This is truly one of the best videos I have found so far on how to properly walk Huskies on a leash. This has finally put a smile on my face today! Thank you!!!
My husband and I watched your video, literally immediately took both the male pitbull and female doberman out and walked them separately, so each of us were able to focus on one dog at a time with your method, (we already have prong collars from previous dogs, which we did not successfully use the collars correctly) instant, massive improvement. Thank you! We are instant subscribers!
I love your content bro!! You have taught me so much. I saved a pitbull from the pound using your techniques. She is such a sweet girl but nobody could control her on a leash. You saved that dogs life by giving me the techniques. It’s crazy that this dog couldn’t be tamed by anyone at the shelter and numerous fosters and owners. It took me 2 days and now she is a totally different dog. The people at the shelter couldn’t believe it.
It's a pure T miracle!!! My 4-year-old Staffordshire Pit has walked me for 3 years. I dreaded walks. He was always in front of me, pulling, lunging, etc. I said, "Enough". I had 3 corrections and he's a different dog. I just can't believe it. He keeps his eyes on me 95%, walks next to me, and even heels when I stop. Between kisses and treats, I think we got this licked. He even seems to enjoy his walks more. Thank you so much. Tomorrow, I start on my Black Mouth Cur and Walker Hound. Walking 3 well-behaved dogs is my ultimate dream. I'll let you know how it goes. THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
That’s so awesome! I just got my 10 month old pits prong collar and I’m optimistic after watching this. They’re so strong but she is not walking me anymore😂
Just got a prong collar for my 100 lb. German Shepherd. Big difference. Did a couple of U-turns and sudden stops and he just stop pulling. Man, we had a great walk. Plan on another walk later today. Now, that young man is tired.
you just gave me encouragement for my GSD... young and 90 lbs. He hasn't responded so well to the u-turns and sudden stops... or the treats. I'm going to try the prong collar.
I also have a German shepherd (black), and was wondering if it would work with a flat collar. It’s been impossible to take him out without him pulling every 2 seconds. I really hope it works though
Finally, training that makes sense 🙌 . Thank you for making our walks fun instead of dreadful. From Eureka, california, 10-month American bully. 6 turns! It was a disaster for months until I tried this
Just tried this outside with my beagle basset hound no treats just in the grass in the back of my house. Kept doing the u turns and in less than 5 minutes she stopped pulling. Crazy! So happy I found your videos can’t wait to take her on a longer walk tomorrow. Thank you!!!
I was going down the comments to see if any one with a beagle/basset hound had tried this! Did you also use the prong collar? I don’t want to buy one if this works with a regular collar
Now I’m pump about trusting the prong collar. My husky pulls like he’s pulling a sled. And pees most of the walk. Been controlling where he can and cannot pee, but I believe it’s more of marking behavior.
I love it. Worked so well. My 15 month old male pit bull relearned how to walk well is amazing, It took three walks and it is now so enjoyable to go for a walk.
Amazing ! Adopted a 2 yr old 50 lb german shepard after 5 trying sessions, she still pulls me if distracted, pretty good without distractions. Have told everyone she has ADD. 2 second attention span. Am ordering a collar right now ! I am 64 years old n she has pulled me around enough Thank you so much for making so much sense !!!! Will post how long it takes to " train " her once we start new collar !!!! I can not thank you so much for helping me make this decision ! Plan on only using prong collar when at high risk of distractions ( not in yard or house) Again thank you so much for taking away the guilt, once I saw this and how quick it works, she is so smart will probably only take 1 walk fir her to become the perfect walking dog ! !!
I applied the techniques from this video on my 9mon husky. He always pulled and was very excited to be sniffing the grass the entire walk with a marking behavior. I bought the prong collar, 15min in, with 4-5 u-turns and 2-3 sudden stops, he was walking right next to me with the leash as loose as it gets. Took him on a hike the same day, there was little pulling whatsoever. Thank you so much for sharing this technique which has help me and many others!
Omg this makes me hopeful!!! I’m going to get those collars too, I have a 4 month old husky/border collie mix and walking has become stressful instead of relaxing.. I can’t go on jogs or walks with him because he pulls so hard and moves from one side to the next tangling himself and me with the leash
North Texas, 20 months old male, 100 lbs, one week with me. On 1-10 pull scale: 10-12 ! Seriously. Used this technique after a couple days and almost instant improvement like this video!! I'm convinced. This is the training channel I'll be paying attention to! Thank you!
5 Czech Shepherds, and 1 Labrador Retriever all working dogs with extreme prey drive over last 20 years, this technique works every time. Also the Spenger collar is a great all around tool for any dog not just working dogs. Great video, nice to see a trainer on here not worry about humans feelings or what they think. Keep up the great work!
This absolutely 100% works!!! Just did it today after watching this video this morning. My 3yo 115lb Rottie is a completely different dog after using this method.
I recently got a husky pup. I haven't had a dog in over 10 years. Just watching your videos has helped astronomically. Keep the training videos coming. You are truly amazing at what you do. Thank you for the lessons
I used your videos to help teach my neighbor's 7 month old boxer to walk nicely. Worked incredibly well, and now my neighbor and I, and both our dogs, can walk the neighborhood calmly. Thank you!
I watched this video last week. I have a 4 year old Male doberman who was never properly trained. I was destined to train him on my own. Thankfully I found your videos. My dobie is now able to walk next to me without the 85lb of pulling. I also let me 8year old 60 pound daughter walk him up the driveway. A world of difference. Now to work on the check-ins with me. Literally night and day!!!! Thank you so much.
There is nothing wrong with this method of training. How much more happiness for dog and owner to have good behavior. The correction has to come the instant of the bad behavior. I obedience trained my collie when was 12, although I was a rank amateur we still won the little class we took against adults. If my life had been different I would have loved a chance to really get a dog trained like the ones here.
Love dobermans - fantastic you have the opportunity and will to train him. It's so fun to spend time with your family dog really transforming owner and dog into a team.
That is so true ! Honestly positive rewards help in aiding and direction. It took me 5 years but my husky is fully trained off leash with the help of her prong, e collar and small rewards.
I’ve been watching you for a long while now and I must applaud your hard work and dedication to your channel. In the last six months you have really transformed your on screen presents, you are much more comfortable in front of the camera and you are a joy to watch. Thank you
My last two dogs were female boxers that needed NO correction collars and were both a dream to leash train…..we now have a 5mo old Brittany that is soooo smart, however tearing my arm off with her pulling at every distraction (bird, squirrel, leaf, bug)despite a martingale she would pull! After watching several of your videos I purchased a “Herm Springer”……followed your instructions on fit, this morning we had the absolute BEST WALK EVER with only one small correction the lightbulb came on and she became the walker I knew she could be!🥹We are both a work in progress but I just want to THANK YOU for teaching me how to train my beautiful high energy pup!💫
9 month old female husky that I made the mistake of walking in a harness and wound up with the exact problems you discribed. Went and purchased the prong colar recommended and within minutes following your advice my dog was like another animal all together. She actually seemed to enjoy being corrected only to get praise upon making the right decisions. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Well huskies need to pull something once in a while, I fixed the pulling with the collar and now she knows that whenever she has a harness on pulling is good but if she doesn't then its a walk
@@astaetn5965 Well the video shows how to teach a dog to not pull, get a prong collar and follow what ASDT did, as to nipping, It's caused by previous owners that separated the dog from it's litter mates, you need to make sounds and show what kind of nipping is not okay also remember that It's a relatively young dog so It's teeth are still growing which causes the dog to use them more, get them a toy and teach them that nipping and biting the toy is okay but not humans or furniture. If you don't do It now you will get a TERRIBLE dog later down the line, It's like with babies if you teach a kid well It's going to behave better when It first goes to school
3 yr old Husky / German Shepard. We got him from the shelter a few months ago. He’s very strong and pulled as if he was on a sledding mission. We tried a flat collar (still pulled), then prong collar (before we watched your videos and still pulled). Finally we watched your videos on the correct type of prong collars and how to properly fit it to the dog. We got/did everything you said. Finally, after a couple u-turns and treats, the leash pulling significantly improved. For my dogs safety and others, I’m grateful you are teaching. Thank you!
I have a 13 month old Siberian Husky. We are from northern Michigan. Using the prong collar and your technique I had her walking by my side in about 10 minutes! Dramatic difference! Thank you!
I keep both collars on my puppy. We start with the flat collar on every walk. If we need a quick “reminder,” I hook the leash to the prong collar, and walk a little. Now, I almost never have to use the prong.
@@gabrielverduzcoI plan to use the prong collar every “training day” which is Wednesday, complete with treats and praises. No prongcollar the rest of the week, but if we stop the prongs for a while they will return to being stubborn. This is a husky we’re dealing with, a stubborn difficult to train breed, and unlike the other trainable breeds they need more consistency.
I am a 5ft tall/120pd female and I just tried this on my 110pd 1yr cane corso who loves pulling and not paying attention to me. He didn't even blink when I tried the correction on the prong collar but I decided to try it with gentle leader and it made a world of difference! After a handful of corrections, he started paying attention to me more and by the end of the hour long walk he was walking in a heeled position on his own. This video was a total gamechanger! I now have hope my kid will be able to walk him one day with after lots more training. Thanks so much! Would definitely recommend to other dog owners. .
GSD 5 months old. In 2 min, after 3 corrections, we were already at a heel; a bit sloppy but a world of difference nonetheless. This training works! No questions about it! Thanks!
@@AmericanStandardK9 hi there greetings from Palm Coast Florida! My husband and I are in our late 50's to 60's but we are in good health thank God. We just got a large standard poodle who is only 6.5 months old but he already has strength. People are scaring us cuz they say we made a huge mistake by getting this type of dog at our age cuz the dog can drag us one day... What is your professional opinion on this? I will order this collar. Thank you 😊
I have a 3 year old GSD and I did this technique not even five mins before we began our walk and I suddenly had a brand new dog! Continued to do these same techniques throughout our walk and my GSD stayed by my side 95% of the time. I will continue to walk him like this until it is second nature to him. THANK YOU SO MUCH for this very informative video!
Tried this last week with the prong collar and method and it worked perfectly. I am so impressed. My dog had been pulling relentlessly for 8 months (since when we adopted him at 4 months old). It was so bad he used to walk on his hind legs the entire walk. It only took 15 mins to see total change. Gentle occasional corrections maintain it. I notice this has also helped with overall listening and recall at park when off lease and playing fetch. He no longer chases after humans in an aggressive way. He’s so obedient now. It’s like once we stopped him from dominating us while we walk it changed his whole personality. He’s so much happier now. Not anxious at all. Not choking himself. Thank you for this video!!!
Just commenting to say, I’ve done 3 sessions with my husky and she walks really well now. I just used her regular collar, even after the first few corrections in the first session she started paying attention to me a lot more. Gonna keep it up [:
Love it. 15 month old 70 lb Golden Retriever in Maryland. Ordering a prong collar now. She’s HORRIBLE to walk. Jumping at people, pulling me across the street! Can’t wait to try this!
Got her prong collar today. Just finished a 15 to 20 minute walk, and after three corrective U-turns and one sudden stop, she walked next to me like a pro the rest of the time!
Ollie is a black lab/australian shephard and he's unbearable to walk on leash w/ distractions. He's landed me on my butt 2-3x and is out of control in stores. I cannot wait to try this!!
Took my 6 year old boxer/pitbull mix a 20 minute walk to get the hang of it, she was a nightmare to walk before! Instead of a prong collar I used a fabric choker collar and it did the trick, this video is a huge help!
Did this w/o the prong collar!! 1 walk!! Granted it took about 20-30 light corrections on a double loop collar. When I adopted my rescue, I signed a contract for no prong or shock collars. Said they’d take him away if I did. But I didn’t want to use them anyway (bc he’s my replacement for kids I can’t have) We healed his emotional scars finally and at 3 years, he just let me brush him without a fight, so I thought maybe we were at a level of trust I could do the tough training. He knows many other commands but as a husky mix, this was the one thing I couldn’t seem to tackle. And when we got home he went into happy spinning circles on the lawn. So I’m pretty sure I didn’t traumatize him! Maybe it was just the handful of treats… haha Anyway, thank you so much! This was great!
Watched your video using u-turn corrections, last weekend. We used your method with our 14 month old pulling Pudelpointer bird dog. We used a prong collar (no food reward, he’s not food motivated) just corrective u-turns. Your method truly works, he went from pulling our shoulders out of the sockets to being a pleasant attentive cheater-healing dog. Hopefully as he has less “puppy energy” he won’t need the prong collar, we’ll see. Thank you for your videos. Happy owners, happy dog!
I can't thank you enough for making this video. I tried your method after watching it, and the results were effective, immediately! It was night and day difference and it made my walk with my dog more enjoyable. It took about 4 U-turn corrections with treats in hand. It not only fixed the leash pulling, but also minimized the reactivity to other dogs. Thank you!
I found you on Instagram and a search brought me here. I have a 2 year old rescue husky that has been pulling and making walks a nightmare. Watched this video and just came back from buying a prong collar and have been trying the moves in the video and within 10 minutes she is so much better! Thank you so much for this video.
I wish I could post a video of my husky when he was 6 months old because huskies are not hard you just have to have the money to train them from an early age
I'm a 5 feet tall, 120 lbs, 68 years old grandmother with a 7 month old working line, east German, German Shepherd that was already stronger than me at 5 months, and walks were miserable. About a month ago a friend who has experience with police k9 handling, got me a prong collar and taught me to use it and within 10 minutes my life was changed. We still need a lot of work, so I'm loving your videos. Thank you for your awesome information.
THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! This is the very first EVER training that has ever worked. I have a 9 year old Wheaten Terrier who liked to pull. Put it on her, did the technique and boom.......she was watching me. I cannot say enough good things about this training. Within 3 turns she was paying attention. I was afraid of the "yipe" - but there was none. She's a very head strong dog and nothing has worked until now. Thank you again from Florida!!!
This technique fixed my dog's pulling in just a few minutes. Thank you! I took him for a five-mile walk, he stayed by my side and paid attention to my every move, AMAZING!
I have a 1 year old Goldendoodle. I’ve tried the treats only method and it helps, but after seeing this I’ve ordered a prong collar and can’t wait to see if the results are as awesome as your demo!
This is amazing, thank you so much! I have a Labrador, 2 years old in Bulgaria, she was a nightmare on walks, wanted to say hi to every dog, person, bird and we couldn’t control her. My 15 year old daughter takes her on walks and trains her and she found this video. She came home after trying everything you said in the video and in under 5 minutes our dog was walking perfectly! I took her on a walk a few weeks ago and she pulled so hard and broke my wrist so I was scared to take her on walks again but now she’s like a whole different dog!
Life changing!! Listened to this while walking my dog on the herm sprenger for the first time. Best walk I've ever taken her on! Used your stop technique and it was effective. I'll bring treats next time to follow your methods. By the way, she is a firecracker 9 year old terrier mix rescue pup. Been trying to treat train her for years with zero success til now. Thank you!
I could never figure out how to do this with our guy. Thanks a lot! My boy Leo changed in 15 mins. We still practice when we go out but it’s a whole new dog. You are the man!
I am 10 minutes into this video and APPRECIATE your realness. I feel so guilty when I correct my dog in any way that’s not positive. I really appreciate the realness behind this and can’t wait to try this out.
I get you, I have a border collie and a mystery mutt. Mystery mutt is easy: I say No firmly and stare her down, she stops doing what she's doing. The border would take that into consideration and decide "So?" and continue shenanigans.
To correct a dog is not cruel at all. It’s BETTER for both you and the dog. One correction with the prong collar and stopping the unwanted behavior is much better than getting dragged through the street and ending up on your ass.
I watched the other stop pulling video this morning. Implemented the techniques and after 3 corrections got my dog to no longer pull. Thanks so much keep killing it!!!!🎉
Mate... your video changed my life. I've had my siberian husky x German Shepard for 10 months and been he'll to walk. Tried everything. 30 mins using your method with a choke collar and done! Wont leave my side and rarley strayed the last half of the walk. Totally amazing. Huge thanks!
I've seen you use clickers a lot. Is this recommended? The second walk today. Way better. Not perfect but better. I want to move onto the next stage of paying that little more attention when there are distractions. He isn't treat orientate. Will take for the first 4 or so treats then not bothered with them.
I’m in Iowa and I have a 4 month old bloodhound! I had problems with him constantly wanting to pull and meet everyone/every dog he saw and smell everything. I watched this video and immediately took him out and started doing this with him. I did it for about 30 mins and in a matter of a few corrections he is already 100 times better on the leash than he was before!! Thank you so much, you have helped me so much with my puppy!

I paused this video half way. ran out bought a pronged leash and a bag of treats and came home. within 2 mins walking my extremely energetic cocker I saw a huge difference. tonight I will continue the training. this video is amazing
I am from Minnesota, we have a two year old Australia Shepherd, horrible on the leash until a prong collar and two corrections. Night and day difference and he is doing awesome on walks. Which is transferring to his other habits and training is going sweet. Thank you!
I didn’t use any collar or prong collar. My dog was on her daily harness and I tried your method. After less than 10 mins and within 3-4 corrections, she walked like an angel! BTW, she is a 65 pounds lab, heeler and a little bit pit bull mixed rescue dog. I can’t be happier. Thank you so much for the video!
Literally took 15 minutes. I don’t comment at all on social media, good or bad. Had to come on here and express my gratitude. Super easy, timed myself with my Apple Watch, and in literally 15 minutes my 9 month old presa canario can loose leash walk and sudden stop with no issues. Only our first day, can’t wait until the “roughly 3 walk” mark let alone a week from now. In regards to my appreciation, words don’t quite do it!
2 long frustrating years, I’ve tried every walking technique in the book with my Aussie mix. She always tried to lead the walk and was easily distracted and reactive. So many different leashes and collars, I was ABOUT to try the e collar until I ran into this video. I was a skeptic, but this video has changed my life. After the first correction with the prong leash, and consistent rewarding when she was walking beside me, she walked my pace loose leash for the first time EVER. And she even avoided running after cats and other dogs. Thank you , a million times!
Tried this today. Walked about the same time period as you. My dog is GREAT but he has some dominance issues and being a pit/whippet mix, he has crazy energy. This worked great.
Super impressed, used your method, and in about 5 minutes was seeing results from my 8 month old Australian Shepherd. Within 2 u-turn corrections, she was attentive to me and between 5-10 minutes and several u-turn corrections, she was no longer the Iditarod sled dog she started out as, outside of 10 minutes we began loose leash walking, not perfect but all in time. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, you've saved me from shoulder pain, and who knows what in the future. Thank you for making this video and legitimately helping people without "selling a video or book to train your dog," like some scam videos do.❤🐾
Crazy how quick this worked with my husky of this same age and behavior (using a regular collar too)… Only 4 corrections plus lots of pays for being in the sweet spot and it made a world of difference. Thanks!
This video helps a ton I did this with my young GS and it worked perfectly. Didn't even need treats after a few turns and stops. She started walking perfectly even let go of the leash for a while and still right with me with stops and turns.
I did this technique but using a regular collar and got my dog to walk normally on the leash in about 10 minutes. Before that she would pull you down the block. Had to do about 6 or 7 corrections and just a few treats but it works. She even saw some birds and squirrels and didn't go bananas like usual.
I tried with my 18 Month old Husky but he doesn't care, i could try all day and he will still fly out the door and be in front pulling from the end of the leash. People say "give them slack on the leash then leash pop them, easy" but i never have any slack to give this guy, it doesn't matter if i give him 2 or 200 ft of leash, he'll instantly be at the end pulling. The only time he ever stops is to sniff or do his business.
@@Spr1ggan87 did you try stop and go? When they pull you stop and wait til they stop pulling then walk again. Rinse and repeat. They learn that they cant move if theres tension on the leash.
It was the Pay-attention-to-me-not the-(fill in the blank) that did it but I’m assuming the prong collar does help depending on the breed. This was my training technique in high school in the 80s (ya when I didn’t have kids or a busy life🤣🤷🏻♀️) and am glad to see that I was on the right track. My dog who I trained was PERFECT! Off the leash and wonderful. This technique does work, collar or not, and it’s obvious this guy cares. He shows and asks for mutual respect. Kuddos!
@@heysatan8 I've been trying that as well, he just always has to be right on the end of the leash way in front. He's like Dane from one of Beckman's vids but with even more willpower, i've been at this every day for over a week with 0 change.
This works! Thank you!! I started following you about a week ago, and learned so much. It took 5-6 corrections for my stubborn German Shepherd to get it, but he finally did, after that we had such an enjoyable walk. Thank you!
I tried this today with my 8mo old GSD and it works exactly how it did in the video. 4 or 5 corrections and we were done. I can't believe it. He even does it on my slip. Thank you so much!
Honestly out of all the people I’ve started following since getting a puppy 🐶 I love the way he’s up front he’s not mean to the dogs but he know how to properly train dogs to keep them safe and happy
@@avcave your being dramatic dogs are not kids u can love your dogs but they also will know who they will respect and love and who they can disrespect that’s why many dog fights start when a dog wants to show their stronger and the other dog doesn’t back down I have little kids and I want them to play with our puppy without being scared of them randomly bitting them
@@avcave Sometimes it's a safety issue for the dog owner and for the dog. I live in Canada and I have a rescue Husky and she pulls like crazy. Winter is near and I don't want to fall and break a bone. If that happened who would walk her? Would I trust her again or would I bring her back to the shelter? Sometimes depending on the situation, dog, breed it is the best choice. Presently my dog does not seem happy on our walks. She is hyped up stressed and sometimes refuses to eat treats (steak) that tells you how stressed out she is. She pants like crazy, her tongue sticks out, walks in front with no sense of direction just like Lexie in this video. I will try this method both for her and for me.
@priscillacastillo5619 @Keefer24 @lindarenaud2907 Hi there, my opinions have since changed slightly on this matter, though not for the reasons some of you have listed, or other 'attempts' to change my mind. Linda, I agree that when it is a safety issue NOT to resort to such methods, AND when guided properly by a certified professional IN PERSON (not through youtube videos), these kinds of collars can be reasonable. I still have yet to do more research, but it is certainly not something that works for me and my dog, and never will be. I believe it Is more of a temporary, quick-fix solution that should only be used in emergencies (that is, emergencies for your dog, for you OR your family where one or more parties is at immediate risk without this method). I do not see it as a long-term crutch; it is uncomfortable for the dog and many people know nothing about how to not only use the collars correctly, but also adjusting and putting them on properly (not too loose, and kept directly below the chin where it should stay) otherwise it can damage their trachea or cause physical and emotional trauma. Dogs are not kids, but it does not mean we should be lazy about training them long term so that both us and them can walk happily together. My dog pulled a LOT when I first got him, and he is a rescue so was super nervous and barked at other dogs. Now he can walk at my side, off leash, and the worst he'll ever do is let out a small whine. He doesn't need a prong collar to do all of that. I'd be ashamed to make him wear something like that for the rest of his life and not try some other methods to give us both long-term relief. I am not a professional dog trainer, Keefer, but I do not see any such credentials on your page either, nor any other evidence of your dogs happiness, which is less than I can say for myself... Though I truly do hope all of your dogs are safe and happy as they can be, at the end of the day, that's what matters.
California, 10 month bull terrier. I did everything you did in this video and it worked!!! I’m so surprised because my dog pulls and does what he wants, never listens to me and now he’s constantly checking in with me. It only took less than 15 minutes in our 40 minute walk. Thank you!!!!
Great demo of the prong. I adopted my GSD 1year ago at age 3 1/2.. Very dog aggressive and leash reactive, re-homed twice prior to the adoption.. Went to a balanced trainer, started doing exactly what you demonstrate. My trainer said never use treats, I think because he trained cattle dogs for 20 years where treats were not an option. It took me longer to get the engagement with my dog and I think that may be why. I may try adding teats sparingly and see what happens. thanks for the idea and video!
Wow! I have a 60 lb Golden Retriever Mix that we rescued last year. He makes walks so frustrating, stressful and unpleasant. We had a trainer come who showed us how to use the gentle lead and that did stop some of the pulling, but not for long. Flynn (dog) loses focus so quickly when we walk him, he lunges and gets super crazy when buses, landscape trucks, noisy vans, bicycles, squirrels, bunnies are in his sight, I could go on. I just went outside for 10 mins with him and it took 2 corrective turns, (and yes, he yelped on those corrective turns), (and some yummy ham as a reward when warranted) for him to stay by my side or a few paces behind me. .holy crap. I am looking forward to using this training later tonight when we do our evening walk. This was amazing. You totally rock.
This is EXCELLENT use of a prong collar. It’s not excessive, it’s not digging into her, and like you said, it’s not personal! This is the way tools are meant to be used 👏 In fact, it’s even a great example of how crops and whips are meant to be similarly used in equestrian! They’re extensions of our body to convey a message easier! Great work. Will be working with my little fella on this too
I have a Rottie/Black & Tan Coon mix. About 80#’s and3 yrs old. This makes so much sense. He is horrible to walk. We have corrected just about every bad habit he had when we adopted him 2 yrs ago right after the pandemic. Walking is the only thing we need to work on. I had always been against prong collars but watching this has changed my thoughts on it.
5 MINUTES PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!! My American Bully has been pulling me all over my neighborhood for 3 years. I watched this video and went to my local pet store to buy this collar. I implemented your method and literally in 5 minutes the issue of pulling is fixed!!!!!! I could not walk my dog around people walking without him trying to jump on them. Thank you!!!
I have a 6 month doberman puppy. I took him for a walk this morning with his regular flat collar to start implementing these techniques and then i went out and bought a prong collar and just went for walk number 2 and he is 90% better already! He would get very distracted and try to run and play with any dogs he sees and drag me around on the leash, run in front of me, pulling on the leash, whipping the leash, giving him no lead didn’t work. but THIS. this works. Thank you so much. It was my biggest gripe about my dog and now I can enjoy walking with him! the stopping was easier but the turn around didn’t work properly until i used the prong collar. and PSA for you guys that hate that, I wore the prong collar myself and tried it. its irritating but doesn’t hurt or leave any marks.
This! This totally changed my life with my big guy. My 150 pound Cane Corso literally dragged me around the block. I was apprehensive to use a prong collar but now he loves it. Thankyou!

Hi there !
I am from Germany, been a K9-Police Officer for many many years and i can tell you, this is exactly the right way to treat a dog during a walk !
It is all about leadership and reward in the right time.. you walk the dog and not the other way around !
( but i have to add that not only treats works as a reward, but also a praise ( "good boy/girl " or just pet it slowly on the side of his head,
or a toy which you can use to play for a few seconds.. after that short play take the toy away and put it back into your pocket and the dog will just be in attention mode )
This is the way i was taught decades ago and it works every time i get a new dog.
This is awesome! I’m staring this in the morning with my poodle mix who is hyper and pulls me like a kite down the street. lol
So what you're saying is exaggerated for sure. No sentient being perfects a 180 degree transistion with zero hiccups being led by someone who has zero experience training. Save the embellishments for the cocktail party.

Finally someone who isn’t afraid to hurt the sensitive peoples feelings 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

A vibrating collar is also a god-send. The dogs can be 50 meters away, and be called back in the middle of playing, without injury, chasing, or yelling at your dog.
Cant use prong collars in holland so i gotta try it without.

Legitimately. Honestly. 7 minutes. Seven minutes and my 2 year old German shepherd was so well behaved, i could lay the leash on my open palm and he didn’t pull on it. Life changing. He is such a good boy after SEVEN MINUTES.
I needed to hear this about a German Shepherd!
@@kokodev3719 If It works on a sled dog you are all good to do on any dog
@elitistcentral7596 it's so funny how confidently you say nonsense. German Sheppards ah yes the quintessential sled dog... and being able to heel any dog isn't more or less impressive by breed. Like people they are all different even if they look alike.
You did that on a prong collar or other type?

Pulled like crazy before prong collar, tried flat collar, no pull harness, everything. Instant change today. Walks like a service dog. Thank you for educating people on how useful this tool can be.
Did she or he ever bark and if she did how did you teach not to ??
@@gmsaenz1222 he is a bit of a barker when I get home and he’s in the kennel. Other than that when he barks outside we’ve conditioned “hush” as his command to quiet down. This works for him but may not work for all barkers as they may just think you’re barking back at them.
Mine is a 8 month male same breed, I went e collar but he still pulls towards other pups

You saved that dogs life by giving me the techniques. It’s crazy that this dog couldn’t be tamed by anyone at the shelter and numerous fosters and owners. It took me 2 days and now she is a totally different dog. The people at the shelter couldn’t believe it.
That's amazing, and kudos to you for putting in the work! We're happy to help!
Have told everyone she has ADD. 2 second attention span.

Thank you so much for making so much sense !!!!
Will post how long it takes to " train " her once we start new collar !!!!

Plan on only using prong collar when at high risk of distractions ( not in yard or house)
Again thank you so much for taking away the guilt, once I saw this and how quick it works, she is so smart will probably only take 1 walk fir her to become the perfect walking dog !
After you got him walking beside you, do you now walk with a regular leash?
I watched this video last week. I have a 4 year old Male doberman who was never properly trained. I was destined to train him on my own. Thankfully I found your videos.

Well huskies need to pull something once in a while, I fixed the pulling with the collar and now she knows that whenever she has a harness on pulling is good but if she doesn't then its a walk
Got a 6month old female husky, collar good to teach her to stop pulling? Also need help with stopping her from nipping at my hand so much💀
@@astaetn5965 Well the video shows how to teach a dog to not pull, get a prong collar and follow what ASDT did, as to nipping, It's caused by previous owners that separated the dog from it's litter mates, you need to make sounds and show what kind of nipping is not okay also remember that It's a relatively young dog so It's teeth are still growing which causes the dog to use them more, get them a toy and teach them that nipping and biting the toy is okay but not humans or furniture.
If you don't do It now you will get a TERRIBLE dog later down the line, It's like with babies if you teach a kid well It's going to behave better when It first goes to school

Finally we watched your videos on the correct type of prong collars and how to properly fit it to the dog. We got/did everything you said. Finally, after a couple u-turns and treats, the leash pulling significantly improved. For my dogs safety and others, I’m grateful you are teaching. Thank you!

@@luciastan64 Purely positive reinforcement is pretty much all you're allowed to do in Scotland.
This works! Thank you!!
I started following you about a week ago, and learned so much. It took 5-6 corrections for my stubborn German Shepherd to get it, but he finally did, after that we had such an enjoyable walk.
Thank you!
Awesome, glad to hear it's working!
I tried this today with my 8mo old GSD and it works exactly how it did in the video. 4 or 5 corrections and we were done. I can't believe it. He even does it on my slip. Thank you so much!
2 yo German shepherd 10 minute walk 4 corrections 2 pop checks and she’s a completely different dog! Thank you!!
Wow really...so I don't need a trainer 😔
Honestly out of all the people I’ve started following since getting a puppy 🐶 I love the way he’s up front he’s not mean to the dogs but he know how to properly train dogs to keep them safe and happy
@@avcave your being dramatic dogs are not kids u can love your dogs but they also will know who they will respect and love and who they can disrespect that’s why many dog fights start when a dog wants to show their stronger and the other dog doesn’t back down I have little kids and I want them to play with our puppy without being scared of them randomly bitting them
@@avcaveYou should cry more, I love all the training videos you have up, I love that you are a certified trainer with your own business. 😂🤡
I don't have a dog, but your videos have not only greatly helped get rid of my fear of dogs but also made me really like dogs. Thank you
California, 10 month bull terrier. I did everything you did in this video and it worked!!! I’m so surprised because my dog pulls and does what he wants, never listens to me and now he’s constantly checking in with me. It only took less than 15 minutes in our 40 minute walk. Thank you!!!!
Did you use a prong collar
Exactly what my dog trainer taught. Thanks for validating this technique. People need repetition too.
Thankyou!
Don’t be scared to use dog training tools! Just do your research on how they’re supposed to be used! when people say certain dog training tools are cruel remember that any dog training tool can be dangerous if you use it incorrectly!
I live in NJ. I own a Siberian husky named Echo he's 10month just like the one you transformed in your video. We had him 4 days & this is the 2nd day trying your method. It's WORKING 👌🏾!!! Night & day difference. We still have to work on him jumping but other than he's such a good dog. Thanks for sharing your expertise so that Echo can learn to have successful happy walks.
I just want to say thank you so much, I have watched so many videos and tried so many times to control my dog on his lead, this video has changed my life, two walks today following this advice and he is walking perfectly next to me, amazing !!!!
Wonderful!
I am a 60 women with arthritis with a 4 year old husky. It’s very difficult to take her for a walk because I can’t walk super fast and yes she does pull. Very much a natural character trait of huskies. This video has been very helpful. I will definitely do this. Thanks so much!
4 year old husky. Pulls like crazy even on a prong. Used this method today.. 4 corrections =100% improvement. Thank you!!!!!
im going to view a very hyper dutch shepherd rescue tomorrow, this kinda video/comment is easing a lot of my anxiety about using prong collars and fixing her issues relatively quickly
@@herbjubwafter3817 I'm still kicking myself for not recording it! I tried to record the next day.. thinking he'd go back to his old ways initially. But nope! Walked beautifully the next day from the start lol. The method really works. Ensuring proper fit of the prong is probably the only thing you need to research (if you haven't already!)
that u turn is a game changer
This is the best dog training channel I've found. No touchy-feely nonsense or fluff. Just clear, concise, effective stuff. I'm an American living in S.Korea. I have a 10-month old Shina Inu that I got 4 months ago. We've made some progress in different areas, but we definitely need to address her walks...or pulls. I can't wait to put what you taught in this video into practic tomorrow...and to get a prong collar! Thank you!
Hello Jeff, I was just checking how you're dog walks going now. It's been two days since you posted on the video
@@apple2012ist She's doing a little better. I'm using some of the techniques but I don't have a prong collar yet, just a harness. I plan on ordering one today. I'm just trying to figure out the size. She has the weird habit of pulling and leaning away from me when she walks. Do you work for ASDT? Thanks. 🙂
@@language-n-learning no, I don't work for ASDT.
Jeff, were you able figure out the right sizes for your 10 month old Shina Inu?
@@apple2012ist I watched a video last night. I'm going to measure her neck again today. 😀
Love it! I did the same with my yellow Labrador. Prong collars used responsibly are the best! They essentially mimic their mother’s (corrective) bite. Keep up the great vids!
First time watcher here 🤚🏼 can’t wait to try this later today with my 5 month old German Shepherd. The first 3 months I made the mistake of treating him like a human baby. Then I read more on dog training and I needed to put in the hard work of ‘unlearning’ my human ways and also get him conditioned to the acceptable behaviors… I’m looking forward to watching more videos 😀
I absolutely love your videos. They are straight forward, no bs and very informative. It has been years since I've owned a dog and recently have been wanting to get one again and have been looking into various breeds. Your recommended and not recommended dog breed videos are very insightful as well. Thank you for sharing your years of experience and knowledge with those of us who would otherwise be lost in the woods.
I live in Japan, I have a 4 month Frenchpitbull. Recently bought a choke collar. He’s a good boy but overly distracted when on walks, constant pulling etc. Will definitely be trying these techniques, also I love the way he gets straight to the point. Very easy to understand! Great video
Appreciate your channel so much! It’s been instrumental in helping get my dog on track. Straight forward and to the point, no bs or catering to sensitive dog owners feelings. Respect!
Thank you. - Garret
