I'll use this comment to mention a few things:
-YES THE 2022 SUMMER AND HALLOWEEN HATS WERE GOOD!!!! I simply forgot to mention them lol
-There are some inconsistencies in the video that are worth addressing like the purple energy to chromatica comparison (other effect would've been a better choice to compare to)

This really summarizes how I feel about the cosmetics that have been released the last few years. Just stupid garbage that’s a copy of a hat we already have in the game. Or boring bland hats no one will wear.
I really wish valve would stop releasing Halloween and Christmas crates. And just release a yearly crate of solid well made hats.

actually creating decent cosmetics is simply just too much effort for valve at this point. they'd much prefer to sit back, shit out whatever cosmetic crate they throw together, and watch the cash roll in
they dont care about the game anymore, they dont even know how to run their own game at this point. its fucked up.

Zesty has been preaching this for a long time and he gets a tremendous amount of hate for it. Buts he’s right. Getting the same kind of cosmetic, just a little bit different, is not how this game should handle cosmetics. There’s no heart and soul in most of these cosmetics. Fucking waste of space for real talent.

I think this year's scream fortress hats are a huge step up in quality, with actual hats you can wear year round and not just random funny items on the merc's head- for example the more gun marshall and the propaniac
I liked that nod at 4:45 to Funke's video on the topic. This is video could've been called "Desecration of an artstyle." Keep up the good work.

The unusual fireworks effect that has 7 variants was uploaded a good amount of years ago and thus had some original problems with it as the creator was semi new to the editor. That being said, it originally had 3 variants but when valve tried to implement them, it broke and they just compromised on making 7. So that's valves fault, similarly to how they fucked up the importing of the new maps and cosmetics this Halloween

I don't care how much apathy anyone here feels, keep pushing for better. unusuals garbage? say they're garbage. warpaints look AI generated or stolen? point that out. hate the case system? say crates were better. hate Causal? tell people it's terrible. I damn well know the lot of you agree, and Valve listens when pressured. look at the recent Summer 2023 update, mappers were upset that only seasonal seizure inducing maps were being added, and they did something about it. pressure Valve and the janitor will finally do something.
TF2 players don't like doing things over and over again, like people tried to start #savetf2 again but all the tf2 players were like "I dIdNt wOrk ThE fIrsT tImE" and lost all hope.

This scream fortress case did actually have some good ones this year, but not all of them are so
A good example is the nightmare brim, or the cabinet mann, they've been getting better
One of my favorite cosmetics came from Christmas 2021 case, the El fiestabraro, I agree that the other cosmetics were weak as of recent, but when it's good, it's really good
Winter 2022 and Summer 2023 (especially this because Summer 2023 probably had the best war paint case in years, Steel Brushed and Pacific Peacemaker my beloved) were steps in the right direction, so I had no idea what happened with Halloween 2023.

I miss when crates just had non-graded hats and strange weapons. I wish valve would just stop adding all these stupid war paints and cosmetic cases with artificial rarities and just go back to the way things were.

second head headwear looks like a reference to blutarch, redmond, and zephaniah mann. never understood why that hat in particular was disliked so highly. it's literally identical to any model you can find if you search like "blutarch mann zombie"

Being a big horror fan and halloween being my favorite holiday I'm still annoyed that Halloween restrictions still exist but you're allowed to have ugly ass festive weapons and Christmas cosmetics all year round that stick out like a sore thumb. Why not just give an option like some kind of checklist setting that let's you visually disable cosmetics for your game? (*Disable all smissmiss*) (*Disable all screamfortress*) (*Disable all unusuals*) (*Disable all cosmetics so everyone shows up as default*)
i didnt know they changed so much about unusuals and cases. since i didnt play tf2 much on oc back in the day. all on 360

Finally. I feel like no one wants to talk about how butt ugly these recent community cosmetics are. I feel like this is mostly because there’s a herd mentality that every workshop creation that makes it into the game is “valid” no matter how out of place/lazy it is. Valve has been giving us absolutely nothing for the past 4 years and people are starving for anything new, even if it’s in poor taste.
I've never understood people saying that the game only RECENTLY broke its art style
It's been broken since about 2011 when unusuals were added (hell the original post for demopan was a critique about the art style being broken)
Valve is just now embracing the broken art style
And honestly? I'm on the side that likes that
Don't get me wrong, TF2s art style is great, but after 15 years I find it a bit bland now
I would have been more upset about the cosmetics not lining up with the art style when this games art style was new
But at this point this games art style has been mimicked so, so many times that I just find it over done now
This is in no way TF2s fault buy it doesn't change the fact that I'm kind of tired of the art style now
BUT that is no excuse for the fact that Valve is choosing the most bland cosmetics from the workshop
You can go against the art style while still choosing good looking cosmetics
And note I'm saying CHOOSING not MAKING because there is SO MANY good cosmetics on the workshop that Valve just ignores

That's the thing, Halloween restriction allows for wacky items without breaking the games artstyle, however it was severely neglected and now we have cosmetics like "hook line and thinker" available whole year round. I regret not going deeper into the topic of halloween restriction in my video but the gist is that its a good thing and it should be more of it (like for example one for strictly holiday items)
This scream fortress case was just broken. Even the luckiest of luck TF2 player was getting nothing, and he himself said not to buy these cause theyre rigged.
My so ended up getting the ONLY GOOD unusual (Marigold Ritual) and I got a fucking recolor. I got the flame version of the skeleton hands coming from the ground. A FUCKING STATIONARY UNUSUAL. YET HIS MOVES.
I hate being a whiny crybaby, but I was genuinely fucking upset that I spent 60 dollars on unusualifiers for my pyro and he gets his from a damned crate....Not to mention the cosmetics were just awful...Pyros balloonicorn feet just look bad, yet engis horse looks fucking spot on. Why could they just do that but a recolor for pyro?? Why does his look like a 35 yo man trying to fit into a 5 yos costume??????
