Bartoli is the best Cenerentola, period.. her Houston Opera house recording on DVD with Corbelli as Dandini and Enzo Dara as Don Magnifico is absolutely masterful.
I've had and treasured a full recording of this for over 15 years now. It's... absolutely staggering. It may sound insane, but I treasure it to an almost religious extent, since I don't believe this recording is available by normal means. I love it so much that I had the original VHS tape copied to DVD in multiple copies, then gave a copy to my brother so that if my house burns down, a copy will survive. And no, I'm NOT joking. I've seen it probably 25+ times in its entirety, and just parts of it? 100+ times. Easy. Almost certainly more. It's INCREDIBLE. I know that they made some small cuts. I don't approve. I admit that they shouldn't have done cuts. But... it's just so wonderful despite that that I can't help but love it. It's one of my all-time favourite opera performances.
I'm horrified that after these years the poster has not put the whole performance up. I know you wrote this a long time ago but REALLY maybe you should be the one to do it! This performance is as you said -- surely the best one ever. I spent years looking and never found another to beat it.
@@themaestro7922 yes it sucks, however you can find the full video on the site "operaonvideo", along with other great operas in full. Go into search bar and look up "La Cenerentola Met 1997 Bartoli Vargas Alaimo Pertusi Levine". It's also in higher quality than this video. Ran into it by accident today lol
Took me 6 years to run across this video but i am glad you put it up! i've long thought this the best Cenerentola. Alaimo and Pertusi are sooooo good and of course you've got Bartoli in it, and Vargas is no slouch. ........ BUT NO, the whole thing needs to be posted!
Well, that is one of Levines better performances. Cecilia Bartoli is perfect for the role: 1) She has the opportunity to race about on the stage - that is simply how that woman works. Sitting still is not her thing. 2) Cenerentola comes the year after the "Barber of Sevillia" and Rossini uses the trick from the "Barber" with the jumping of "Figaro, Figaro...." Only here the mezzo has to contend with a chorus and 2 other singers. 3) This takes the massive voice of Cecilia to brush things aside at will.

God bless ROSSINI I! He was truly the Master of Merriment and elegantly hyperkinetic expressions of unrestrained Joy.and Exultation.

wow... for instance do you know where to find a recording of it? (even it seems difficult...)

That is Bartoli! Flitting around and about the stage at full speed hair streaming. Opera is not only about singing.
Bravo Rossini! Brava Bartoli!

I hope you will post more of this, especially Corbelli's Dandini!
MET should give this opera a proper set it deserves. Fire whoever designed it and never use him/her again.
I have posted Dandini's ' entrance scene' nOW i see I made a mistake, took Vargas for Dandini, I'll try to catch him later....;-)
I'll do my best ! Will take some time
