You can see him head banging to the wrong beat. The power of prog...
Trying to headbang whilst listening to a prog song for the first time = fail
LOL I bang/move my head around to the guitars/bass most of the time, the drums are usually the go to but I kinda put them together I guess...
yes I know I'm not the best at describing what I mean 🤣🤣
Opeth is unlike any other band. Always have been. Their juxtaposition of beauty and brutality is unmatched.
Ryan Kieth try ne obliviscaris :) they are opeth 2.0 for me :)
Agree with you!!!
we call that beautality ......rock On!!!
Shiki Le lion d'or Oh. I did in fact listen to the Portal Of I album by Ne Obliviscaris a few days ago. So basically you right. But Opeth are still the kings of progressive death metal, progressive metal and progressive rock as of we know them to this day.
@@YetiLearnsMusic Recently listened to them for a first time. Got the same vibe.
The first time I heard Opeth, I went on an Opeth binge for almost a year. That's an entire year of listening to Opeth almost exclusively. And seeing someone getting awestruck by the ingenuity of Opeth for the first time again brings back so many memories. You should try more of their songs, try the Damnation album, don't skip a single song. They're mostly acoustic based and very artistic.
They are always amazing ❤️
@@rossifisher886 After this video...my binge is starting right now🤩
Same thing happened to me
Yeah! Me too 😂 Opeth is addicting just like that... when I heard the Orchid album for the first time I just couldn't stop!!!
A few weeks back I was on a plane, listened to Still Life, Black Water Park, Deliverance, and Damnation back to back. Such a perfect way to relax.
Alex you've takin a step into big boy territory now!!
Mikael Åkerfeldt is a genius! This band is very special, they stand out above the rest!
I wish I could hear them for the first time all over again! I'm excited for you!
There is so much more for you to hear from them!
MORE OPETH - Ghost of Perdition or Face of Melinda - or both!
Opeth is so diverse man, I hope you check more songs
pedro garcía I definitely will be checking out more
@@AlexHefner when bro it's been a year
@@AlexHefner Whenever you get the chance to check them out again, I definitely recommend reacting to "Ghost of Perdition live @ Red Rocks Ampitheater". Either that song or "Bleak". thanks :D
@@AlexHefner 1. Appreciate/Respect the hell out of you for being so open and honest about your past. 2. We needs more Opeth please!
Welcome to Opeth....they stand alone at the junction of many genres... Metal, death metal, jazz, rock. Progressive music at it's best.
This is a more subdued track for them, as they have some 10 -15 minute songs that incorporate clean and harsh singing ( Mikael sings both styles seemlessly). Ghost Of Perdition will get the most requests.
TwinRavens you need to check out katatonia
Conor Taylor already a BIG fan of Katatonia.... thanks to my Pandora Riverside channel!
It's Lounge
take a gander at "an abstract illusion"
Yeah, man. Opeth is definitely one-of-a-kind~
STAN check out katatonia
Also Soen.. listen to some Soen! I personally think Soen is a mix between tool and opeth. All amazing bands none the less.
More Opeth! They have so much diversity and their sound is incredible
Tim Miller I can’t wait to explore further!
Opeth - Ghost of Perdition
Next time you listen to Opeth don't choose the music video because most of the time they are shortened versions
Opeth - The Drapery Falls next!!
This is the VERY first song of Opeth I ever heard back in 2001...
CelticFrost84 darkthrone profile pic and celtic frost name. Hell yeah 🤘but that would be a good song to react to.
And Harlequin Forest
Defensive Wounds this is the same for me and it is one of my favorite songs ever.
Please do opeth drapery falls or demon of the fall
Opeth - Ghost of Perdition
Opeth - Blackwater Park
yes and yes!!!!
For sure. How'd he get on to porcelain heart first? Not true opeth. The beginning of their end...
Afonso Gonçalves Yesssss Ghost of Perdition!
deliverance
Damnation is a sick album too
Dig the new intro. Was not ready for an Opeth video haha.
Opeth - Harlequin Forest should be next
Joseph Bastidas I wanted to catch y’all off guard 😬
Definitly, you should try Harlequin Forest. This song is one of Opeth's best in the eyes (or ears) of many fans.
Demon of the fall and Ghost of perdition too. Those shows another side of Opeth you haven't seen yet. Michael Akerfeldt is one hell of a singer...really versatile and you've only seen his soft side hahaha.
God yes please
Alex Hefner Yeah man, that song its perfect
God of Perdition & Harlequin. Mygad, the dynamics of those songs are incredible.
I've been listening to metal for years and I can't get enough of your channel. It's refreshing to see someone discovering these tracks and giving their own honest feedback. I will literally watch later your videos so I can watch when I get home from work. Keep it up!
Also you NEED to do Gojira - The Art of Dying!
Dude, idk why but at the beginning when you spoke About suicide, the way you did it moved me, even though I'm not dealing with suicidal thoughts I want yo thank you because Im sure you helped someone going though something rough. That aside, Hail Opeth! Check out their song SERENITY PAINTED DEATH
You should listen to Bleak - opeth
Brian Brown or Dirge for November, that's a really beautiful one
Or harvest or a funeral portrait
Oh yeeeeeeah that's a great song
Whole Blackwater Park album is just great. It's been in my CD player in my car for like 5 years never taken in out
Bleak is great, Deliverance would be even better
Man those riffs are sweet! That acoustic kills it too! Never heard opeth before, first time here
And I will say, metal, has things for all sorts of moods. Ain't no lie there.
Got a song suggestion. Literally 3 minute song I believe, all instrumental no screams, but the song like speaks to you... All That Remains, Regret Not, acoustic start to just wonderful pickup into the song
Listen to more opeth they're so beautiful
Your first time just like me!! Hell yeah
The entire “Damnation” album is solid too. Super talented band! Love these guys
Opeth is such a phenomenal group. Porcelain heart was the song that got me hooked way back when. Loved them ever since.
I loved the video man. Its awesome.
MORE OPEEEETHHHH!!!
You should have reacted to opeth - ghost of perdition live
That would be the great introduction
Please react to it in future
alaziiii yes, please.
So agreed. Ghost of Perdition is amazing. It really showcases his singing range.
Ghost Of Perdition is an absiolutely amazing song, shows both of their styles, slow and melodic and fast and hard
Definitely he should do ghost of perdition :)
I love every Opeth song (really huge fan), but Porcelain Heart isn't even in my Opeth Top 50. A little bit dissapointing, Opeth is much more than that.
Thank you for your touching and honest message about suicide awareness and support. I appreciated that more than your reaction - and I enjoy your reactions. :)
Aaaaalright. I'm a huge Opeth fan. Your reaction is awesome. I've been through a few "serious" relationships (anything from 6 months to 4 years). Your interpretation is really nice. Hope yours ends up well, and you've got a new subscriber brother.
This album Watershed (which contains Porcelain Heart) is the last album Åkerfeldt used death growls and he already decreased those parts a lot. So if you wanna hear Opeth I fell in love with I'd recommend to check out Blackwater Park (the whole album, it's just a masterpiece). Also Ghost of Perdition, Reverie/Harlequin Forest and The Grand Conjuration from Ghost Reveries, any track on Still Life (especially Godhead's Lament, Moonlapse Vertigo and Face of Melinda) and any track on Deliverance. Damnation is more acoustic and clean vocal album which has very beautiful songs in it, but no clear death metal elements. And Opeth's production since 2005/2008 has been more progressive rock than metal. But Blackwater Park, the whole album, is the thing.
Opeth - in my time of need.
And bro check out Porcupine tree too,
Porcupine tree - time flies, anesthetize, arriving somewhere but not here, trains.
I like the new intro! You are a person with a heart and you mean it completely honestly if you want to help someone! I appreciate that!!!
As you say we are a family!
One of my all time favorite Opeth songs is Harlequin Forest, I highly recommend it.
You should know that the clip version is the short version of the song. 5 minutes versus 8 minutes for the full song. Next time you react to Opeth, it would be great if you could pick a song that exploit their Death Metal style a little. Akerfeldt growls were some of the best I've heard (until he stopped using them in the studio after the album on wich Porcelain Heart is). You could also react to their softer side that is very haunting and beautiful, equaly awesome but very different (as found on the Damnation album)! Listening to Opeth is a musical journey ! Thanks for the video :) !
Alexandre Marchand you got it ❤️
Serenity Painted Death!!
I could suggest a song, but damn it is too hard to chose. Their discography is full of mindblowing stuff. Harlequin Forest, Bleak, Windopane, The Moor, When, Demon of The Fall, Black Rose Immortal, etc. I'm a big fanboy sorry haha :P
Alexandre Marchand I think The Baying of the Hounds would have been a good song to start with.
You should try out Bleak by Opeth, one of my favorites.
Fantastic reaction! Thank you for what you're doing, Alex, we all Hefnerds appreciate it ;)
That’s what I love about Opeth. Each song is like a mini concert. Tempo changes, harsh and clean vocals, drums, keyboards, guitars...
Opeth - Blackwater Park. Opeth are my favourite band and that’s my favourite song of theirs. Awesome track, one of my favourite songs.
Damn that song is so amazing. Took me some time before I could get into it tho, pretty dense and heavy song. But when it clicks, it is soooo rewarding. The sun set forever over blackwater park. What an epic way to end a perfect album.
For me you can't beat A Fair Judgement. I would put Burden at a close second though, but that's me of course. Fav band for me too though.
The best part about their music is that your favorite tracks are always going to be changing. Especially for me with the Still Life album. Sometimes things just really click different times when you hear them.
Defenitely, I want to see & listen to his reation to Blackwater Park.
Favorite solo of all-time in that song. It's a fucking masterpiece.
Opeth is such a great band! You should react to deliverance!!
Great review! I love opeth, so it's wonderful that you would even take the time!!
Give "The Drapery Falls" from the Blackwater Park album a listen. "The Face of Melinda" from the Still Life album is also a great song.
More Opeth! Epic band
some of these have already been commented but i just want to compile some of my favourites for you
-blackwater park
-bleak
-black rose immortal
-forest of october
-the twilight is my robe
-sorceress
-the wilde flowers
also [insert generic compliment of channel]
You forgot to add Devil's Orchard and deliverance
Gabriel Drumi-Grudco To bid you farewell
Twilight is my Robe eff yeah
No love for Hessian Peel?
Alex! Yo its awsome u reacted 2 opeth. They're my fav band ever and would be really cool to see you experience all their poetic and instrumentally gothic style and profieciency!
You gotta do Opeth - Ghost of Perdition.. It REALLY showcases their diversity and talent.
Please try Opeth - Blackwater Park. Possible one of the absolute best metal tracks ever written and recorded.
Oh damn, my boy discovered Opeth!! This is probably one of the most talented metal / prog bands of any time. You need to delve into their other stuff. It's very tasty :) And you haven't even heard his heavy vocals yet. Oh boy, is that gonna make you shit yourself. Try Reverie / Harlequin Forest? Or The Drapery Falls.
Hey Alex! I'm somewhat new here but i ABSOLUTELY love you channel, love seeing you experience all the songs that got me hooked on the genre for the first time! I know you recently started playing guitar - there's a sub genre of metal that I think you would LOVE as an aspiring shredder - instrumental progressive.
Might i recommend
Plini - electric sunrise
Mendel - Shaking hands with the devil
Intervals - touch and go
Scale the Summit - Atlas Novus
Animals as Leaders - Physical Education or The Brain Dance
AHHHHH I LOVE THE NEW INTRO SO MUCHHH HELL YEAH MAN
Opeth...they will take you into deep, deep waters. You only see them in a pretty mellow and somber mood here. While their songs almost always have that dramatic ebb and flow of intensity, they have a few more "gears" you don't see in this song. For something where they go full-bore, maybe try Demon of the Fall.
Please do a reaction to the drapery falls from opeth... Its so ffing great... Probebly my favorite song by them... Even thought that changes like the tides😂😅
Rodiootje99 yeah! I totally second Drapery Falls! Huge song!
Same! That intro is the best
Tides are pretty constant though...
I actually think this is a song that Alex would really dig
I got it in the mental! It’ll happen
OPETH - BLEAK (With Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree))
PORCUPINE TREE - ARRIVING SOMEWHERE BUT NOT HERE
yessssssss😍
Also love the new intro and thanks looking out for the family
Please react to Ne Obliviscaris - And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope !!
Stephen N. OH YEAH!
It's not a real Metal reaction channel if there's no Ne Obliviscaris in it!
You should react to The lotus eater and ghost of perdition by them
Opeth - Black Rose Immortal
20 min of awesomeness.
Facundo Gotmand THANK YOU
Love this video man. And thank you for the suicidal thoughts help. I've been at that point in my life as well and have lost friends and family to suicide so I appreciate you being willing to help those who need it
YESSSSS!!! OPETH
React to The drappery Falls
Do more OPETH! All opeth songs are different and take you to another place while listening to them.
this is such a good song I'm glad u reacted to it cus I haven't listened to it in a while and forgot about it
I'm loving this transformation!
Welcome to the Metal side, we have Riffs!
Honestly, this was a pretty good one to start with. Opeth's prog elements can be a bit much to a first time listener. If you need another straight forward tune that kicks ass, Sorceress is great. That said, they're a phenomenal band, no matter what song you decide to hear next.
damjrok that seems to be the consensus. Everybody seems to love opeth!!
I don't listen to a lot of Opeth, only because their subject matter falls outside my scope of concerns (if that makes sense). That being said, how can you describe with absolution, that emotion you felt at the end, without walking through the things that brought you there. Progressive music is amazing, if you can take the time to listen to it.
Katatonia - Leaders
My fav band!!!! I love Opeth so much omg
Love that you tell us what the song is about so my reaction is as good as yours. Hi from Norway :)
Opeth: ghost of perdition, in my time of need, face of Melinda. Great songs. You could check them out👍🏻🤘🏻
Ghost Reveries is one of the best albums of all time.
You forgot to mention To bid you farewell! I think it surpasses all the songs you mentioned.
Opeth really is a unique band. You should check more songs. I suggest The Moor
I don't really like reaction videos, but your format and personality sets you apart. You are very enjoyable to watch and your comments are constructive. Keep up with the great quality!
Cheers!
Do appreciate you putting out that you would be willing to talk to anybody who needs to for suicidal thoughts. You are right it’s better to talk to somebody that you aren’t close to or someone you won’t get that close too. Family and friends honestly believe that they know you better then you do yourself and will tell you it’s a funk and it’ll pass. Somebody else understands this problem and it’s great. Thank you so much for that
Ghost of perdition would be an excellent follow up for your first Opeth song!
You'd probably really like Windowpane though. Definitely check that one.
that was the tune that got me . definitely windowpane.
Really interesting to see these reactions of yours, and always awesome when you can be introduced to new music that can impact your life in some way or another. Always been a big fan of Opeth and their catalog has so much to choose from.
I'd love to see you react to Draconian - Stellar Tombs at some point too!
Awesome dude..love your channel...greattings from Wasilla Alaska
In the line of this dark emotional songs from Opeth you may check Katatonia My Twin, In the White(live in sanctitude) or Old Hearts Fall I think you will like any of those if you like things with a touch of emotion.
Good call with the Opeth, sir. I love prog rock. The musical genius is astounding.
Alex, if you want a true Opeth experience you need to look into Ghost of Perdition, Bleak, or Baying of the Hounds amazing song that have an up and down roller coaster of talent listen and learn my friend Opeth is one of my all time favorites.
baying of the hounds. prime musical genius.
Dellverence
Im from future and ghost of perdition didn't work
@@cubertuner492 well thats an interesting comment... I think something is lost in the way the sentence was structured.... Buuuuut it definitely works amazing song and my man reacted to ghost of perdition and sums it up fairly well, saying "How can you compete with a band that puts everything into the song..
@@AesirBerserkr but here we are!!he didn't react anymore
“Opeth setting themselves apart”.
Bro, you don’t know the half of it.
They’re a once in a lifetime band and take a while to get used to but, they are something special and a major influence to so many others.
Jinjer’s Pisces is a prime example. If you get around to Ne Obliviscaris, that’s another band with very heavy Opeth influences.
Definitely check out more Opeth.
If you do more Opeth, check out Ghost Reveries and Hope Leaves. Awesome contrast of songs!
opeth is my religion
OPETHian
Preach my Opethian brothers.
Same
Life
First opeth song I ever heard-it was the heaviest thing I had ever heard at the time
Ne Obliviscaris - And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope
This one is a really good one.
Dude. Powerful stuff for the beginning. Just to let people know you care and you want to help, that's dope, I imagine people are out there who could use that outside person to lend a voice when the tough gets toughing..your a good man
Michael Alvesteffer thanks Michael! You guys help me out on the daily so it’s only right to reciprocate
Bad ass the whole thing
Adding them to my play list lol !!
One of my favorite bands ever and forever.
GHOST OF PERDITION PLS
Bump!!!!
\,,/(-.-)\,,/ yesssss
This is bumped
Ghost of Perdition and Hessian Peel
Bump
Alter Bridge - Blackbird!!!
You should check out something like Harlequin Forest from them. This song was all clean vocals. You need to see one where they take the same type of journey, but have VERY different vocal styles mixed together. It adds textures unlike anyone else. This song was definitely good, but it was kind of like dipping your toes into the kiddie pool. Now dive into some deeper water. ;) Good stuff.
Deva Winblood um no That song does in fact have growls
STAIND12300 Deva meant that Porcelain Heart doesn’t.
And even Reverie/Harlequin Forest has very restrained amounts and placing of growling.
Man, you're an awesome human being.
Props
This songs good but I'm more into the heavier opeth like Blackwater park or harlequin forest
N7 DOOMREAPER Harlequin forest is the greatest song regardless of genre I've ever heard
Please PLEASE more Opeth!! Deliverance, Blackwater park, I don't care. Whatever you see the most! Love ya man
Tyler Davis deliverance is so good
Yes! Got you on Opeth, Harlequin Forest next!
love when the drums go mental and somehow the rest of the band are keeping them in time
Please do Opeth- Deliverance
Thank you so much for this reaction.. love from Chile ❤
I think you should really react to Opeth's prog metal songs my suggestions for you:
Demon Of The Fall
White Cluster
Deliverance
Reverie/Harlequin Forest
Ghost Of Perdition
Blackwater Park
The Night And The Silent Water
The Mist In She Was Standing
The Lotus Eater
Any song from " The Roundhouse Tapes "
There is no thing such as an Opeth bad song for me, but those ones are the most "Iconic" that came to my head at this moment
Felipe Valdés viva chile!
Thank you so much! ❤️ I’ll definitely react to a few of these
Throw Master's Apprentices and The Grand Conjuration in the mix too. Incredible songs.
You Finslly made it to Opeth!!!!!!!! @Felipe you forgot to mention Serenity Painted Death! atleast what I would recommend super nice flow and sound in that. Has screams and singing ;D
Hell yeah, Ghost of Perdition!
Opeth is a terrific band and a force to behold. Very worth it to see them live. The lyrical composition alone will have you in awe.
Hey dude, nice video.. Love the new intro and your videos, still waiting for Make Them Suffer - Save Yourself... That song makes me cry, love from Argentina...
YEES OPETH
The human abstract - Polaris
If you like acoustic in metal you’ll let this song or a lot of their other songs.
The best Opeth song to display the talent of the band is "Reverie/Harlequin Forest" Absolutely flawless, and beautiful.
Doug Laxton Flawless is the word. This song is amazing.
awesome video. Its great when we are on the same page and never heard the song.Knowing nothing about the lyrics or meaning. You clarify it and make my music library bigger.Subbed with the bell icon.Great channel bro.
Meshuggah-Bleed
Peas and carrots~
I think he's ready for Meshuggah. Or at least close to it.. But just to be different from the other channels, i'd suggest Clockworks.
I think he should do a more "easy" song first so he can head bang to it. :) Demiurge, Rational gaze, Do not look down.
'Bleed' is probably the worst suggestion for a first time Meshuggah listener.
Don't know about that, it was the first song i listened to and I'm a big fan now, it all depends on what you want to hear. But i agree that it's not the easiest one to get into.

If you want a different taste of Opeth, check out Ghost of Perdition. Sounds like a completely different band, and highlights their diversity greatly.
Also, Holographic Universe by Scar Symmetry is amazing you should totally react to it :)
Doubling down on (early) Scar Symmetry.
I agree with Ghost of Perdition by Opeth. You gotta get their range and they showcase every bit of their skill in Ghost of Perdition. It's a phenomenal song.
Gotta listen to their whole discography man, to enjoy it even more as a whole.
Opeth - Moonlapse Vertigo
