No other band can touch my soul as Opeth has done for 20+ years.
Love your pure reaction to this masterpiece. Much love.x
thank you my friend appreciate the comment, thanks for watching!
Not even Dimmu? 😉
@@progperljungman8218 I have love for both bands. However Opeth is my soulmate.🤘🤟
porcupine tree? I prefer PT honestly, but they're both amazing.
DELIVERANCE for another amazing ending! MASTERS APPRENTICE to melt your face with choppies and growlies!
Love this reaction brother!!!! Opeth changed my life.
Mikael is such a unique vocalist. There's noone like him.
Yessssss "Delieverance", "Coil & Heir Apparent" or any other song next 😁
I hope you continue your Opeth journey and we are all here for it. As I am sure others have mentioned here Blackwater Park either the song itself or anything off of that album of the same name, would be a great one to explore, many consider that album their masterpiece though honestly everything by Opeth is masterful. Have fun. Also these guys aren't the Kings of prog metal they are the Gods of Prog Metal.
definitely going to continue the Opeth journey these guys are incredible!
Awesome will be sure to check it out cheers my friend!
God's of Prog Metal, sounds about right!
Martin Lopez was and IS the best drummer Opeth EVER had! Super groovy and creative drummer!
Facts facts facts
Had the pleasure of seeing them play this album straight through in 2017. Sounded just as good as the studio version. You gotta listen to every track on this album
🔥🔥❤Opeth❤🔥🔥
Thrilled to see you back with Opeth.
Yes indeed, Kings of prog for me. ****You love this outro... wait until you hear their song Deliverance! 🤘❤👍🏻🙂👍🏻❤🤘
Yes! Deliverance!
oh hello, I don't believe we've met before 😂
@@deminybs 😂
I just wanna know what took you so long. 😁
@@floridabelle uhhhh.... misspell?? lol I don't understand your comment
edit: haha nvm I figured it out right after I responded
@@deminybs Damn autocorrect! 🤪
Coil and Heir apparent are incredible.Usually you find them together.
I wish I could say that I had never heard of these guys before. That would mean I had an awful lot to explore left. I admire the people who have the opportunity to explore these geniuses. I mean I already have, but still they are the greatest to me. Keep it up 🤘👍
The drumming is amazing on the entire album. The mix on his kit was just 🔥
That end riff gets me every time 🤤
I think you'd like their song Burden. The dual guitar work in that is wonderful.
Yes. Kings they are.
Thank you for this review. I just discovered Opeth a few weeks ago! Changed my liife. I cannot believe Ive been sleeping on this all these years.
I'm thinking The Drapery Falls would be a good song to further your Opeth adventure or a live version of Deliverance since you liked this ending so much 🤘😄
Opeth...Mindgasm.
Halfway through the video I thought to myself "I cant wait till he hears the ending" lol I was not disappointed.
Opeth is my favorite band of all time. They're from Stockholm, Sweden and have been around since 1990. Their more recent albums dropped all the growls and emphasize progressive rock/metal with a bit more of a 70s influence. The newer stuff isn't bad, but it definitely doesn't scratch the itch that their first 10 albums did with their combination of death metal, folk & jazz. Here are other favorite tracks highly recommended for Opeth: Black Water Park (ua-cam.com/video/j4xCb_OU_lM/v-deo.html); When (ua-cam.com/video/3U7bToZghYU/v-deo.html); The Moor (ua-cam.com/video/adOWWbEfyiQ/v-deo.html); Lotus Eater (ua-cam.com/video/XhohQNdSt7g/v-deo.html)
Coil + Heir Apparent next???
Yes please.
will definitely check it out!
Its called ghost notes! With the snare!
I recommend highly Demons of the Fall! Was never anywhere reacted to! Do the live version of Roundhouse ;)

Opeth is my all time favorite band. There's nothing they can't do.
Ghost Reveries has one of the cleanest and spookiest productions I've ever heard.
Not one bad song on it that album.
Close your eyes and throw a dart cuz they're all outstanding pieces of music.
Yeahhhh.. Deliverance and Master aprentice.... Choppy choppy
I'm with you brother. When you get Opeth you realise ... man these guys hit beauty quite often ;-)
I'm watching the whole time waiting for the ending to kick in. I knew you were going to lose it haha! Great reaction.
Great reaction to a great song
The live version is nice but i really like that you did the studio version of this one. First of, not only the music of this album is a masterpiece, the recording is perfection. Each instrument and Mikael Åkerfeldt voice is so well capture. Include keyboardist Per Wiberg (Candlemass) as a "permanent" member (Joakim Svalberg since 2012); and due to health reasons it is the last Opeth album to include drummer Martin Lopez.
"I was mistaken because I taught it was produced by Steven Wilson - Porcupine Tree (Post-progressive Rock/Metal), but Ghost Reveries was the first one that he didn't produce since Still Life (1999)."
Ghost Reveries was not produced by Steven Wilson.
@@PedrovskiTV ho my bad, thanks you !
@@pentheroliver3794 Np, just wanted to clarify, it's something I've learned recently myself :)
A personal fav. From their early albums. This is a live version some years later my 10 year old son loves, and he adore choppy. Give it a go. You will love it
Best ending? Wait til you listen to Deliverance lol. Hello from Portugal.
I was fortunate enough to be at their infamous Red Rocks show in 2017 that they recorded. Gojira and Devin Townsend opened for them. It was one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to
Man I love Opeth.
I'm a long time Opeth fan and I love seeing your reactions to their awesome music. It reminds me of the times they've blown my mind over the years when hearing a great new composition of theirs for the first time. I look forward to the next one! Btw, the last two are from my favorite Opeth album of all time, so you can't go wrong... Check out "The Baying of the Hounds" track 2. ❤ Cheers!
Also, on my next viewing...I agree.
the "Snappiness" of the Snare is because of the following
1) obviously the Snare itself has a good presence in the "snap" part of the audio spectrum (which is about 6Khz)
2) the Drummer is a technical master and hits his drums with focused controlled strokes
3) the Mics are good
4) the pre amps are good that they are recording into, good at capturing full audio spectrum
5) Compression , this is used on pretty much all parts of a m, and can do different things, but in the case of Snares, it is usually used to enhance the snap of the snare, and some of the body. How does this work? it complicated to explain, and I am not sure I could fully do so anyway, but essentially it squashes dynamic range of a signal. Compression is the secret sauce that untrained ears hear but cant articulate, it enhances the snap or crack of the snare whilst at the same time fattening up the body of the snare(150 to 200Hz), resulting in more punch and impact from the snare sound
6) EQ some of the body and snap/crack of the snare is further enhanced by EQ boosts around 200 Hz and 6KHz
7) Clipping/Saturation , this is basically distortion and can work in similar ways to Compression , but is different in ways too c long winded to explain now, but essentially its introducing harmonics and squashing the signal a bit like compression
You could summarise this as Good snare, good Drummer, Good recording equipment, and a good engineer who knows what they are doing with Compression, EQ and Clipping/Saturation.
A lot goes into mixing EVERY sound you hear on a recording, ...this is just what goes into the basics of a snare, and I have not even mentioned phase issues from multiple mics, clean up eq, frequency masking with other elements etc etc
This is the difference between a "Demo" sound and an "Studio" sound, and this is all assuming the band are great
Its really incredible what goes into just capturing 1 element of part of a drum kit, let alone an entire band
Great reaction man, you definitely get what makes Opeth so brilliant. For the next one I recommend Blackwater Park.. it's a riff gold mine with some of the best ever put to record. An absolute metal masterpiece and for me it's their peak. Which is obviously incredibly high.
I completely agree with you on the headphones! you wont get the real experience without them
FOURTH. CAPS LOCKED. I CAN'T STOP.
Hi from Sweden. Keep on your good work! The swedish band Opeth is totallly mindblowing.
On your own you have to check out the "Live at Royal Albert Hall" recording of this. Mikael's interaction with the crowd at the start is fun and you'll get another example of how great they are in a live setting.
Man you really experience music the same as I do. Seriously, it's amazing. Your facial expressions, you laughter in disbelief because of how good it is, feels like musically I'm watching in the mirror while watching your reactions! I'm really, really enjoying this channel man. So good. So good. Btw, I see you calling this the best ending ever, and I raise you Opeth's Deliverance ;)
1:19 so much yes!
I understand long time fans want you to watch the live stuff or music videos, but like you said it distracts from 100% just LISTENING .....to the MUSIC 😂
Love the reaction man
Opeth 'Baying the Hounds' for something heavier and just as epic...
For future reference, the part you said you wanted to listen to over and over again that made your soul feel good starts at exactly 5:59 on the original video.
Fuck yeah. Subscribed to the fellowship! Obviously enjoying the journey as much as I did when I discovered Opeth some 20 years ago - a true gem - they still give me the bumps and chills!
my man, for more Opeth definitely do The Leper Affinity, The Moor, Hessian Peel and Blackwater Park
Amazing reaction to this beautiful song ! And yeah you’re right the best outro ever .. only Opeth - Deliverance can beat that 🤘🏽
Awesome, maybe the drapery falls next from their blackwater park album.
Kings of prog metal!!! Yes!!!! ;)
@5:30 He throws in a lot of 'ghost notes' next to the snappy snares, that's what you call 'em. Martin Lopez is an absolutely amazing drummer. There are few drummers I'd consider on his level when it comes to feeling for composition and approaching the drums as an actual melodic instrument as opposed to purely rhythmic. And props to the producers for letting the drums, including all the little details, shine through the mix so well without being overpowering.
great reaction man! i almost cried at that last part the first time i heard it. New subscriber here!
King of Prog metal
Also my favorite band of all time.
Just stumbled on your channel, you are fantastic at visibly enjoying and actually listening to what you are doing videos on. Welcome to the journey, brother, I've been on it since I was 10 in 1999 and (allegedly) discovered napster xD. Opeth has been a staple for me since 1995. I am so glad you enjoy it!
love the way you solve these advertising problems with ease. And yeah, they are fantastic, starting listening to them again because of your inspired reactions.
Was waiting to see your face during the last section with those jazz offbeats!
wow! never heard of these guys before, but i love it too!
lol jk I've known them for years. glad you are enjoying.
Hey bro!! Opeth is serously masters of their craft, they got a handful of songs like this, that absolute take you on a journey, and leave you mindblowing, as well as more simple songs that dont have 1000 diffrent feels to it, but great songs as well, a top band for sure.
asd youre right, these songs are great on headphones, its often when im looking for a song to listen to, i end up with a Opeth song in my ears..
Love that. Came to progressive metal via Jinjer. Now this is freaking good as well. Thank you.
so good hey! thanks for watching!
Blackwater Park and Deliverance are more masterpieces to check out!
It's so funny seeing how people react to that ending. I know I was going "WTF is happening", but it's really satisfying once you figure the pattern out.
You could probably pick any Opeth song at this point and you'd appreciate it.
Opeth rules so fucking much. For something really evil, check out their song, Demon of the Fall. \m/
Deliverance, Blackwater Park, Hessian Peel, The Moor, The Night and the Silent Water, April Ethereal.
Another great reaction as always! Shadow of intent released a new single titled "the migrant" a few days ago you should check it out. Also check the band face yourself and their song shadow self their vocalist is literally the female version of will ramos imo.
Was legit about to say that. That SOI song hits hard. Such an amazing band that needs a lot more recognition.
thanks my friend appreciate it!
will definitely be checking out The Migrant looking forward to it!
As always, appreciate the recommendations!
So glad to hear you’re reacting to Opeth now!!! These guys are just different!! Like tool these guys are progressive and technical in their own way and heavy. In this album in particular I just loved their drummer. He really stuck out. They’ve had different drummers but Martin Lopez just had a wonderful style. Like you said snare drum in the beginning was the part that I couldn’t help but notice and since then I always look forward to hearing it. Lol. Their music just took a different step when he came in. All the songs in this album are great. Can’t wait to see your next reaction. I would recommend another one off this album. Go with “The grand congregation”. Full of all the technicalities and chunkiness you can dream off and the drummer tears it up. Take care bud.
Did you just tear up at 18:45?
Awesome eargasm ✌️
Maybe the ending of the song called DELIVERANCE will change your mind…
yeah no idea what happened I started laughing from joy haha!
will be sure to check it out!
There is another great song from them with great ending. Deliverance. And yes, get Premium, it worths it!
Ignore the "Reverie" part of the title. There was a mistake in the pressing of the record. Reverie was meant to be the start of this track, but it ended up being the end of the previous track on the album. No one who reacts to this song does the Reverie bit because of that error!
Can't wait till you do 'Deliverance'. The ending is even more choppy.
Yeah dude awesome
Loved your reaction, man! Keep it up! And as others have mentioned, do yourself a favor and check out Deliverance Live @ the Red Rocks. Blackwater Park is another must listen, preferably starting with the studio version. Cheers!
SNAPPY! CRISPY! CHUNKY!
CHOPPY!
Gojira - The Axe live in Brixton
Gojira - L enfant Sauvage Live Brixton
Gojira - Wisdom comes live Brixton (short, but just pure filth)
Gojira Clone - Garorock (metal summed up in a single video)
Wisdom comes 🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
Just Suscribed...more opeth please!! Maybe The Moor, or The Leper Affinity next
20:05 Wait until he hears Deliverance
These guys dont write songs. They write complete concept albums. Songs blend into the next
I've always thought the outro to this song is so spine chilling. So many of theirs to recommend. Try
The Grand Conjuration
Wreath
Blackwater park
Also though, if you'd like to hear an outro that stands in with this one, try
Gojira-In the Wilderness
🔥🤟🔥
Definitely have to recommend the moor from the still life album, or for some serious fell good opeth, windowpane, death whispered a lullaby from the damnation album
You're not the only one laughing 😀
Just stumbled upon your channel today & i got to admit i already watched most of your videos. You're great! Would be sick if you checked out pretty much any song from Aether Realm. They're all absolute masterpieces & criminally underrated & definitely something you have never heard before. Their best song would probably be "The Sun, The Moon, The Star", but it's a 19 minute long journey, so if you're up for that i'll applaud you.
Thanks a lot my friend glad you're enjoying the channel, thanks for watching!
awesome will be sure to check them out appreciate the recommendation!
You should listen to Heir Apparent. If you can, listen to a version that includes the albums opening track, Coil. It serves as Heir Apparent's intro, and really elevates the entire listening experience.
Great reaction my man, really enjoying your channel. You should definitely check out Ne Obliviscaris. To my knowledge, their best live video is And Plague Flowers the Kaleideoscope Live in Boulder. Of course they have many other great songs that are audio only.
thanks brother much appreciated and thanks for watching!
will be sure to check them out thanks man!
Recommend Blackwater Park as your next review
And you haven't even reached the Blackwater album or Still Life yet. You still have all the best ahead of you!! :)
So the reason for the two names is actually something you touched on. This was two songs that were put together. The first part is reverie then you move into harlequin forest
ahaa fair enough thanks for the comment my friend!
Please react to Deliverance (live at Red Rock), my favorite!
That's the plus of progressive/ melodic metal,it takes you on true emotional rollercoaster rides. Most don't have the attention span required to enjoy anything other than commercial 3 minute vomit. Lol.Opeth rules and again Ill kindly request NeObliviscaris: Forget Not or Devour Me Colosses. Thanks brother!
they are missing out!
will definitely check it out brother!
Mikael Åkerfeldt has the best growls in metal, in my opinion. You should check out their newer stuff too. Not as good in my opinion, but watching interviews that have been done since he transitioned his style, he said that he wanted to take full reigns over the band and go in another direction. I guess not all of the memebers were really on board with that from what he made it sound like, but he pretty much said tough, it's his band, and he doesn't wanna growl anymore. I'd like to see him come back to this style, but I kinda don't see it happening. New stuff is still alright, but this era was way better.
He's done this and wanted to move on. It's just his personal journey I guess and I'm more than happy to join even if I can be curious about that continuation from Watershed that was in the making but was dropped since Mikael (with the assistance of Mendez) realised he wanted to take a different direction. The more I listen to "Newpeth" the more I like them (and they do continue to change!) But then again, I'm an old 70's prog nerd (originally 😊)
Dallas toler wide
As you said Opeth is one of the Godfathers of Prog Metal... now you need to react to other Godfather of Prog Metal band... called Dream Theater, rockin since 1985 and one of the biggest in Prog Metal. The "prime" formation has 5 musicians all of them at the top of their game, and between the best in their instrument (John Petrucci at guitar, Mike Portnoy at drums and Jordan Rudess at keyboards). Maybe you could start with "Pull me under" in the simplest (good thoug, but less complex, more commercial side) part of their music, or have 'cojones' and go for "The Dance of Eternity" which is a masterpiece of prog metal, with more than 106 time signature changes in less than 10 minutes...
Hey, what about prog death? Try Beyond Creation. Hardness, chuggyness and tons of fat flowing bass)
Well, i told you to react to the live version not because the acoustic are better, but because of the feeling you get from it... Should not be a critisism, of course you can do whatever you want :)
It’s called ghost notes
Id say Tool is the king and or god father of modern prog metal. While Opeth was originaly black death metal but became more prog death metal but today have dropped the growls in last few albums altogether.
Proscibed bro i like ya style. Are you interested in some classic death metal. Try Entombed...Left Hand Path or Revel in flesh for a quick banger.
Hola.
Escuche Therion.
Saludos.
Do jinjer next ❤
If I may recommend a band, sir. It would be.... Ne Obliviscaris (try Painters of the Tempest) and (Devour Me, Colossus) first :-) Followed by (And Plague Flowers the Kaleidoscope) ! I wish you the best!
🤘🇸🇪👍
I love this reaction - so soulful and honest. Been following Opeth since the early 90's and they are true masters of their craft. I still favor the older stuff but also really like the newer stuff (which is more proggy, no harsh vocals). My recommendation for a good experience of old-school Opeth would be Demon of the Fall - preferably the live version from The Roundhouse Tapes ua-cam.com/video/fS-sVOJTC9s/v-deo.html Another good option as you enjoyed the snare so much - check out Deliverance (Live at Shepherd's Bush Empire, London) ua-cam.com/video/c1Lkc3OqtDU/v-deo.html
have you had the chance to react to the song Liar Liar from Kamelot. if not i would love to see your reaction to that. Hope you have a wonderful day, and continue with the amazing content :)
