Hello,
My name is Andy. Welcome to the channel, where you can see some of my custom projects being created. Hope you enjoy the videos. I appreciate the likes and subscriptions!
Thank you,
Andy
That’s a sweet press you have there for the inlay glue up!
Modeled it after a book press. Going to need version 2, the top is starting to bow under the stress.
This is great! The person for whom it was made will love it!
Thanks!
Great videos! Thank you so much for taking the time to make them... I too look forward to your Vectric videos
Just posted a video that has some vectric screen shots
Great work! Love it!
Could you do a vetric video with your steps?
Greetings from Germany!
Thank you for watching. I am working on a video that I will release later this year on how I use vectric for these inlays.
@@ARBWoodwork Great to hear! Looking forward to it!
Great work! What depths did you use for the pocket and inlay settings in vcarve?
.2 inches for the flat depth of the pocket
Start depth 0.18 and flat depth 0.08 for the plugs.
Nice job .why didn't you program your cnc to cut out your inlay instead of using your band saw .I see everyone do that and it seem faster to cut it on your cnc while it's there ,anyways great work
Thanks for watching! I have thought about that. Right now I don't have a consistent thickness for my plugs so I would have to change that depending on the blank I use. Also I am finding that breaking the plug into smaller pieces helps in the glue up. With the thin kerf of the bandsaw I am able to get to tighter areas for separating the pieces.
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Great video, very nicely done.
Do you ever try and fill the tiny gaps? I’ve just done one and there are some tiny little holes and I’m tempted to fill with saw dust and glue 🤔
Depending on the size or amount. When doing something for myself I will try that but when for others I will try and recut the inly plug to fit better.
Really nice work! How are you getting such detailed vector art. Do you use some graphic program like Illustrator or Photoshop? Or a camera then importing using the import bitmap feature in VCarve? I would like to do more on my guitar fretboards…Anyway thanks for the great videos.
Make the designs on Illustrator mostly.
beautifully made, was that an Odie's Oil or equivalent that popped the grain. really nice finish on it.
That was Walrus oil.
binging your vids - they are awesome! which version of vectric do you use? cut 2d? v-carve? v-carve pro? other? thanks
Thank you. I started with vectric v-carve desktop when I had a smaller machine but upgraded to pro when I got the i2r because of the larger bed.
Nice work. Could you tell us more about the press you made?
Thanks.
The press is a prototype that I modeled after a book press I saw an image of. It is all made from plywood. The screw that I used was a shoulder vice screw that I found on Lee Valley Tool's site. www.leevalley.com/en-ca/shop/tools/workshop/workbenches/vises/31134-shoulder-vise-screw?item=70G0151
beautiful
Many many thanks
Great work 👍🙌
How do you get your cnc to start carving away the excess wood after inlay glue up? I just started using Vectric Vcarve so i wad wondering if you could help me out
Thank you
I create a pocket toolpath that is just under the depth of the excess sticking out of the plug. The shape of the pocket is created with the offset tool with an outwards distance of a 1/4 inch around the perimeter of the inlay. Sometimes I just draw a new path around complicated shapes with some clearance for the inlay ad use that instead of the offset.
@@ARBWoodwork thank you so much for your help 🙏🏻
@@ARBWoodwork I found put the touch plate on top of two pieces of paper with 0 cut depth works, and don’t need to worry about the pocket piece height.( just make sure the pocket piece waste is not too thick since it has to be one pass)
This is awesome. How deep do you go for your inlay? Im new to this and I always feel nervous going beyond 0.12 inches below the surface
Anywhere from .25 to .3 depending on the bit.
On my old machine I had to do multiple passes. I have an older video that shows this process.
@@ARBWoodwork Hi very nice. Did you use multiple files for this piece, because for the eagle male part the height is much smaller than the letters. Thank you
what size is your CNC?
Maaaaannnnn, That wood really soaked up that oil
24”x48”
@@ARBWoodwork
How often do you use the actual full 4 foot
Im tossed between the 2x2 or 2x4
Not sure i would use more than 2 foot
😲👏👏👏👏
Thanks!
Should have used NFO wings!
Good idea
That’s a sweet press you have there for the inlay glue up!
Going to need a version 2. Getting some flex in the top rail
