Pepe Tools asked me to check out their new 90mm Ultra Rolling Mill. It's a sturdy little workhorse with a lot of versatility.
In this video, I discuss how to use a rolling mill, what to do with a rolling mill, how to roll metal, things to pattern metal with and a brief part on roller maintenance.
This is the first video (ever) for my friend, and new producer, Rebecca. She is taking Lisa's place and, for her first video, I think she did a good job! We're working on the focusing and capturing details aspect but, I'm sure, she'll be filming like a pro, in no time! Otherwise, no chicken nuggets for her!!!!
Please "Like" this video! We appreciate it.

I visited Pepetools just yesterday. Meet the owner SUPER nice guy. Gave me a tour of the shop. Blew me away with the machinery it takes to make these parts. CNC machines mills lathes the whole gamete. The manufacture is truly here in the good ol' USA!!!!
+2LateIWon I've been impressed with the quality vs. price of their tools too. USA made and so much better than some of the imports. They've been very kind to me and our makerspace too. Thanks.
Thanks Nancy, Got a 130mm PePe Mill about 3 months ago and can't say enough about it's quality and fine engineering. A world above the economy models and a big THANK YOU to Pepe for setting up shop in the USA. As a senior (fixed income) , I'm glad I waited for this to come onto the market for it's price point. Keep up the good videos. I really like the addition of the furry helpers. They really ad charm to the presentations. Have fun ;)
I love the kitties! And the informative video. Thanks Nancy!
OMG Nancy, you blew my mind at the triangular wire method! Thank you for your ever entertaining but most of all useful videos
Thank You Nancy for another great video! You always brighten my day, Linda
+Best Cut Gems, LLC Thanks Linda - as always!
OMG, just purchased the 110mm combination mill & can`t wait to get it. So STOKED to be able to do more!!!!!
I bought one of the 130mm Pepe mills when they first came out with the Ultra model made in the USA. Fantastic engineering and quality workmanship. For just a bit more than the foreign economy models you can have one of the Pepe mills. Also, thanks Nancy for the spicy intro---watch out America's got talent. Love the cats in the Vids---good people and always willing to help. Thank you and thank Pepe tools.
Thank you Richard!
I love your energy. And your cats.
Love your videos and your humor. You crack me up!
Just got myself the 110 combo, great info and thank you!
Great video as usual, Nancy! Thank you. I just bought a cheap one that works well. My first try ended up in turning a handmade lace into paper (I DID anneal the metal but my daughter is STRONG!). It's working out better and better, and soon it's time for enameling again!
WOW awesome tip on cleaning the rolling mill. Thank you and I love your cat so cute
I adore you flamingo_cookoo_nuts intro...I think you might do a longer one, it is that fun!
Thanks Nancy. Very useful and insightful. I bought a Rolling Mill but not used it much yet. Lots of ideas in this video for patterns and textures, so it was perfect for me.
Wow what a co-inky-dink. I just purchased the 130 mm ultra rolling mill today.Love your videos and you, thank you Nancy
+Darlene R Well, ain't that perfect timing Darlene! 130mm is going to be SWEET! Have fun and thank you!
enjoying my 90 mm flat Pepe rolling mill..thanks for the suggestion
Great video as always -- Thanks Nancy! Just got my 130mm PT last week, following all your instructions for opening the box and setting it up, even created the dowel thingy to keep it oiled and cleaned. Going to try my hand at this today and make my first impression with some copper bracelet blanks - nervous so I'm going to go watch a few more of your videos to gain more confidence. Don't want to ruin my rollers :(
Have fun Karen! Be brave.
Thanks Nancy. Instructive, inspirational. Best yet texturing demo! Simon from Oz
Thanks Simon!
Haha! I love the cat! Great timing of him getting in the video! Got a great laugh! 😹😹😹
Girl...you are so freakin' funny! I love to watch your videos!!! Entertaining and great info. Thanks!!
Extremely versatile tool! Thanks, Nanc.
+Charles Struble Thanks Charles! Next up: rolling cat fur through the mill!
+Nancy Hamilton That should have some interesting sound effects...
My roller printing has been a bit hit or miss. Thanks for explaining how to set up for the right pressure. That will help.
I love cats, they always ask, why stand when you can sit! Eh! Love ya, Nancy! Thanks for all the fun!
I do like your videos and your approach to teaching etc. You make me smile! (Giggle too!) :) Have a great day, Nancy x
You need a "love" button, even more than a "like" option on this channel/video
Thank you Nancy for your review, I will check out the rolling mill.. hugs to your cats :)
+horsenaround2000 Great, thanks horsenaround! I'll pass on the hugs.
Great video for a beginner like me. I love the cats!
you are tooo much fun I love your videos
Thanks again Nancy - really want a rolling mill and I think this might be worth the price according to your review. Of course I have used big fancy durston mills when in school at COM BUT NEVER COULD I afford one so maybe this will fit the bill for me.
I love your introduction :)
Anyone who hates cats doesn't deserve to watch your wonderful videos.
And ugh I wish there was a jewelers makerspace near me.
Thank you
Anyone who hates a loving, quiet cat, is silly. Cant we enjoy nature, and animals while we learn? Keep the cats please please please!!
Go momma go! ☺️ Pretty kitty 🐈
I enjoy seeing your videos 🙂🙃🙂🙈❤️
OH MY GOD! You are so cute, so funny and sweet! I love cats too..big hug from Valencia, Spain. Learning to become an professional goldsmith!!
I love your kitty cat! I have an economy mill that I bought from Otto Frei, and I'm thrilled to have it. It works great, but then I've never used anything more expensive, so I can't compare its performance to the higher end models. Your lovely filigree necklace makes you look like you have a Harry chest, LOL.
+Patricia DelMercado Ah, hairy chest!!! I've seen the economy that Otto sells and it's a nice machine. Whatever works for you is the right tool. Thanks, I'll tell Ralphy (the cat).
I love that I do.....thank you
A great video! Very informative and so inspiring! I need to get a rolling mill to try some of these things (especially the patterns) out NOW! Shame Pepe Mills seem not to be distributed to Europe....
+M00Nabove It is a shame but, they are American made and maybe shipping would be cost prohibitive. Have you contacted them? Thanks for your kind words!
I haven't contacted them yet. I may do so later. If the taxes and shipping aren't ridiculously high it could work. :)
Thank you for all that you share with us here. :)
Love your videos!!! Have you ever used any of those specialty designed wire rolling mill rollers? I have one but have no idea if I should put it on top, or the bottom...etc.
I'm finally ready to take the step and buy a rolling mill. Thanks for sharing the great information as you always do. Do you happen to have an affiliate link for the Pepe mill you demonstrated with? If not, that's fine, I just prefer to use affiliate links for people so generous with their time and information like you. I'm super exited to get one and start using it. I love texturing metal, but find etching unpredictable and would love to be able to repeat patterns with more success. Plus all the other options for texture are exiting!
I'm addicted to your videos. I've found my trying to stroke my phone when the cat sat on the table (fortunately my oldie dogs were nearby..) I wish I didn't live across the ocean, I'd do some morally questionable things to be able to learn from You
LOL!
Nice video and love your assistant. One correction. Maximum opening is 5 mm not 5 cm.
So, (love your videos) you seem like the best person to ask. . . What would happen if I used a texture plate and sandwiched it with metal and whatever necessary to protect everything. . .and then ran over it with my car? I don't have a rolling mill yet, the texture plate is $50. What do you think the outcome would be? Would I ruin the texture plate? Points to ponder.
I actually tried that (grin). The only pattern was from dirt and tiny little rocks. 1) Maybe I didn't anneal properly 2) maybe tires aren't hard enough
My kitty always helps me when making jewelry. He honestly thinks he has a part in it. He does hold my string for me. lol 🐺
Hi: I am an intermediate beader and a beginner metal. Do you suggest that I purchase a Sixxiz for metal embossing first or go straight for the rolling mill. What I like about the mill is that it has so many ways to use it and the sizzix can get pricey with the pattern plates. I live in an apt and have limited space.
You can also buy rolling mill patterned paper designs on Etsy from "MetalDesignz" and "rollingmillresource", they've got some cool designs; and i believe one or both will do customs designs. If you're careful with them they can be used multiple times.
Love the video and LOVE that your kitties help out! People who don’t like the cats are jerks imho. Please keep the videos coming 😊
thx.
do you buy from contenti or rio grande? thx.
Love the cat!!! But mine always sticks his butt towards the camera. Yours is polite.
(Wow, love the trolls and haters below. Give them something for free and they still complain.)
Hey Nancy, great videos, thanks for taking the time to share knowledge.
You mentioned (3:18) that the rolling mill had a maximum thickness of 5cm, I think you may have meant 5mm? (blame it on Ralph for distracting you). Thanks again for the vids.
+ColdForgeRings Jewelry You're probably right - that seems to happen a lot with me. Although, don't have the mill, here, in my studio to check but, 5cm does seem a bit large! Thanks for pointing that out - I'll put a note at that spot in the video.
Can you Texturing Stainless Steel with it? Or is it to hard?
Oh, we have long distance betwen. Thanks.
What gauge brass to use as sandwich for the steel texture plates?
Most gauges should work 22, 20, 18. Some steel texture plates are specifically designed to used without sandwiching them. I was taught to always sandwich steel but, Kevin Potter, of Potter USA, recently told me that he nevers sandwiches steel plates and that man knows steel, mills and everything! Have fun.
My Economy Rolling Mill Is 5 turns to 1 and i get over 500 different patterns , by changing the rollers , half round, flat, round, and square with all different designs, for a very reasonable price.
Awesome!
BOB PADUANO my economy mill only opens 2mm. Useless for anyone wanting to use it for ingots, or steel texture plates. Considering the Pepe.
love your presentation and spirit! What camera do you use to film the videos?
+Radianne2 We use a Canon EOS 60D DSLR. Thank you!
haha...I love your personality, you seem like a fun living woman 😊
hahaha! You are nuts, in the nicest of ways :)
Before I wach further content off this video(which is first one from You) I already subscibed after first 3 seconds off Your intro:-))) such optimist just has to be in my channel list:-)) thank you.
P.S. yong UA-camrs: take that as a suggestion how to get more subsribers.
I have this mill and cannot get it to work to texture metal. I’ve tried buying texture paper made for the purpose but it just comes out with no pattern or a faint one. I only bought it for the texturing so I’m disappointed. Any help would be very welcome!
Have you annealed your metal and tightened down your rollers? Sounds like you don't have enough pressure. Maybe this will help? I hope so!
@@NancyHamiltonJewelry I will try tightening more thanks.
I think that cat is a diva
There is no question! Haha
PS: I LOVE cats!
Ralph:ahh yes rolling.
do NOT use 3 in 1 unless you want sticky GOOP all over your rollers after a while. That stuff is probably the worst oil ever for lubricating
go to walmart and purhase a can of spray remington gun oil, ultra light oil, good for cleaning and lubricating more than just guns
i like u r indian dance
Wut the? That machine is awesome and looks vintage...and costly.
Auto soul From car shop ! for stainless steel made in Germany !
Nancy, i cant ask you, where you live?
+Adalgiza Chiquito I live in Northern California.
Hi ,I like the Video ,the part where youre sharing and showing all your talent ,the cat is fine too ,there are curious friends, but the camera men is a beginner and you might get a good one to share your great Talent specially when talking and passing very quickly and we cant even take a good look at the pieces coz they are out of FOCUS )))thank you ,I like the Video :-) Like the Cat :-))
nice video, but the rollers aren't high enough, to put the cat through, that is
Push the cat away first
I could do without all the drama.
Then there are about a zillion other people teaching how to make jewelry on UA-cam. Perhaps one of them would have a style more to your taste.
Yes I cant stand the cat. They always block the view. They are your spoiled babies.
You are a very unhappy person, aren't you? Be happy, life needs happy :)
Thank you
