You bring back memories of growing up with a creative sister that would buy thrift items and turn them into beautiful clothes. This was back in the fifties and Carol has gone to Heaven for many years but thank you for keeping the spirit alive...
Another hint for sewing buttons on sheer or delicate fabrics - pick a 2nd button, flat, preferably clear or unobtrusive in color and sew it to the inside, directly behind the right side button. Sew them together, so they anchor each other. This provides support, and will keep the right side button from straining or pulling on the fabric, as it's attached to an inner button. This is also a good idea for coat/sweater buttons, which tend to be heavier.
It's refreshing to see our younger generations see and show the value of alterations! Most off the rack clothing needs a nip or tuck to make it look fabulous. I'm impressed by your talent and vision!
One of the benefits of revising thrift garments is that it helps to understand how they are made. I've been doing it for a long time (I'm kind of old) and find it helps me in drafting and designing for myself. Fun changes and that final dress is just perfect.
This is how I’ve taught myself how to hand sew and alter my stuff. I really study(?) how the piece was put together while I’m taking it apart… Thrifting has also really given me a keen eye for higher quality fabric and workmanship too. Ya know? I hope to get a machine soon, but for now, this works.

What you gave us was an in-depth sewing lesson, with specifics on the zigzag width and length, I hit that subscribe button. I've been sewing since childhood, and I'm thrilled to see that generation after generation, styles may change, but sewing isn't going out of style.
I love that you know how to alter the clothes🤩I used to buy cheap, used, wedding gowns🥰 I took the skirt part of a gown, and the bust of another, and fit them together......that was over 30 years ago. I can not understand those who find the perfect piece of ? but put it back because it does not fit...💃 with out a though of altering it to fit😘.....Not everybody has your talent👌. Thank you for being you✌. I just subscribed yesterday and so glad I could see the new❤ video from a new friend....that's you. I am going blind and wish I could do what I used to do. Girl, you got mad skills!!!! I love to thrift as well. Some people don’t realize what great stuff you can find. Love that a younger person such as yourself care enough to remake vintage things. I am very impressed!! Thanks so much for sharing your videos, keep on thrifting!!!!
I have been buying second hand & altering the items for years. I was way ahead of the curve. Thank you for talk about basic sewing to make simple changes bc that is the easiest way to thrift!!
I’m new at sewing and am trying to make a dress. It came out too big, so I used the dart method you did for the floral dress. Thanks for making these videos 🤗
I started sewing on a machine when I was 9 years old, and began making lots of my own clothes. I can even remember making a long sleeve, button up shirt with collar, then the next summer, making it sleeveless, with a V neck and wearing it backwards. I'm going on a cruise in October and have a stack of thrifted pieces that will be converted. Linen elastic waist pants that are way too big will be come draw string shorts, AND a drawstring skirt (from 1 pair of pants). A little girl maxi dress in a print I LOVE, but has a small bodice, will be cut under the bodice to release all the gathers. Then I'm making a yoke and shoulder ties, to make it a shorter baby doll type dress. So many possibilities. I like the overall idea. I have 2 white cotton nightgown that I love, that I think I want to make into more of a one piece romper for sleep and lounging. I can take tips from your project.
I had no idea a dress could be altered the way you did that second dress. I always thought you had to taper it off or it'll look weird. Thanks so much for the tutorial!
You are charming…beautiful and so entertaining. I’ve been sewing all my life and made adjustments in the most complicated and difficult ways possible. I so enjoyed seeing how you made your changes, especially taking in the shorts, pants and dress. The sewing was minimal and the resulting open darts just right! Can’t wait to see more of your work. Thnx.
It is SOOO nice to see someone who is willing to make alterations and minor repairs to otherwise great garments! I have known too many women who would actually throw away a perfectly good, maybe almost new, top because a button came off. More money than brains, I guess. But I also had a young gal come into the fabric store where I worked; she brought in a very cute little knit top she had purchased on clearance (really cheap!) because she wasn't fond of the plain buttons. We found some really pretty buttons (cost more than the sale price of the blouse) that totally changed and dressed up the look of the top. She was a very happy camper when she left!
So much fun watching this. I have been thrifting for years and my mother taught me some of those ideas that you showed. You look so pretty and there is a sense of accomplishment by finding clothes that are a good price and redoing them to make them ours!🙏❤️🌺
For the brown dress with the hole and the lining problem, it could be great if you cut the lining at the knee level. Since the dress is see through, it can look great. You can try before cutting it :)
I thought about that, but I prefer the lining to be long because it feels more like a dramatic maxi dress than a shorter version. Thanks for sharing your opinion!
I wouldn’t do that because that’s. A signature cheap fast fashion move. They cheap out on the material by doing exactly that and you can always spot a cheap Chinese dress by that design. I like the way she did it.
Your technique of altering shapes of clothing is truly unique and knowledgeable. Learning to do these things is valuable for whatever path you choose. Specially developing your design fashion wearables . I enjoy watching this video. “Fabulous Second Hands “
All of these turned out so well! That strange cut out on the lining of the tan dress made me think of when my kids were little and would just randomly cut up things to use in whatever make believe thing they were playing! 😬😄 I bet someone's Barbie got a new dress.
Love this video, especially the beige and rust colored dresses fixes: saving pieces that might have been discarded and making them look stunning and like new! The content fashion YT needs.
I really love how you use existing pieces and change them to fit your style and make you feel confident in them. Thumbs up for recycling! I really like all of your changes but maybe the pink overalls the most 💖 but they all look so good on you. Thank you so much for sharing your ideas !!! 🙏
I recently started using ThredUp for my clothes and I'm so excited to see someone doing this (especially with great instructions) so I have ideas! There's a sweet dress a size too big I'm hoping to fix up. 💛
Amazing, beautiful, fun and helpful all at once! 😃 I recently went through a right side mastectomy and have been trying to figure out how to transform my clothing. You just gave me some simple fun ideas. Thank you!! 🦋
Thank you for the terrific tips. I sewed a lot of my tops, dresses and skirts as a teen and younger woman using patterns. . But now that I am older I have become an Apple shape. I find adjusting a whole pattern a little hard and don’t sew that much right now. My shoulders are still a medium but my bust and belly are a large. Because of this I have to choose carefully between loser medium and large sized clothing. I can follow your tip to make a back tuck and draw tops and dresses in a little near the waist for a more flattering fit. Really a great video!
My 10 year old son is entering an Elvis look-a-like contest this weekend. I thrifted some pieces to dress him as Jail House Rock Elvis. I have to take in the pants and shirt because they are too big, but I believe I can do it. You've given me the confidence to try. Thank you!
Thanks ! I watched this today on a bus journey on some garments that I wear a lot but they are either not quite right,or have been in the cupboard for ages awaiting hems etc. I've now been inspired to get started and already a summer cardigan is back in full use!
this video has inspired me!! Just made 3 tiny alterations to a pair of jeans I already altered to fit last year, few more items to go but as you said it makes them so much more comfy to wear, so thanks x

I buy all my clothes at thrift store & re-purpose them to fit me. Loved your inspirations especially the one of the dress taken from the back.. I love how you do things & will put some of them to good use.
The dress is brilliant! I'd love to find one like that! The overalls are so cute, and that was a perfect solution! I love taking in my pants like that, too. Those pink checked ones are so cute! Even the tiny fixes you did to the dresses made so much difference! I am truly inspired! Thanks! I can't wait to see what you do next!
