I'm becoming addicted to these High Peak videos and I'm so pleased to see there are such honest dealers around. Most of the dealers I've known would never have been so decent as to replace the cambelt. Much easier to tick a box on the service records and 'who would ever know?' Well done, I'd buy a car from you if I needed one.
They are certainly more entertaining than most of the programmes on TV.
Agreed Barry. I'm addicted too! My request for a future video is a 'how do I film these videos?' video :)
Probably why Mat has not only remained in business, but prospered. I'm sure his reputation is his greatest asset, after all, his business sense is questionable when he continues to spend out on lost causes!
What a shame someone has left it get so bad. The FL2s are fantastic motors, I've had two great ones. Glad you mentioned the key repair; I'm picking up a 'new' car next week and it needs a replacement shell so I've now got in touch with the guys at KeyFax.
And £60k to use Autotrader per year??? Wow, I wouldn't have guessed it to be so high as that!!
Loved the euphemism Matt but doesn't conjure up the nicest of images of you sat at your desk in your office! Lol
im addicted to you barrryy
Hi Matt, wanted to let you know we really appreciate the videos being concluded in one part and you not milking views over multiple parts even though that's much easier and these take you weeks at times months to make.
The effort isn't unnoticed 👍🏼
I appreciate that!
Who are you pal??
@HighPeakAutos Thanks for your online course, but I sure don't want to start auto trading. However, I really envy you with your connections to your Mechanic, valet team and Jim. I wish I could just use his service to Buff up my car, but I am across the Irish Sea in Eire.
Expect nothing less than massively overspent, Matt would make a killing out of merchandise and clothing with “I have massively overspent” labelled on it lol.
16:34 😁
Or “That will buff out”
Or a t-shirt showing a Land Rover or Range Rover with the words “If anyone can save a Land/Range Rover Mat can”
Or "Well... we're here..."
or "a new set of plates will instantly lift it"
I do believe making these videos must be really hard work on top of the fact that buying and selling cars are difficult to start with, but... You must never stop, you have no idea how much I and a lot of other people I suspect appreciate these. I seriously hope it is worth the while for you. ☻
Fantastic comment. 👏👏
Great comment!
You don't need to tell us you've overspent, we assume so anyway 😂 along with it needing a new set of reg plates, a good buff and a set of mats!
Don't forget the quick wash.
And set of rear discs😂
My 2010 Freelander 2 has just hit 170k, service it every 5-6k and keep on top of the maintenance (being a mechanic helps I suppose) but can’t really fault the car, usual stuff like back diff etc been done but never misses a beat most of the time & I’m not a Land Rover fan but the freelander 2 is a good car imo
I had a FL1 and loved it, including the built in paddling pool in the boot, the window regulators going and the rear diff.
The BMW TD4 Enginewasnice though, if I'd not had so many issues with it, I would have got an FL2,which I'm lead to believe is a much better model
You literally are the Battersea Dogs Home of cars…. You never put a sick car down, even if you need to. I admire that 👍🏻
Seriously, are there any other car dealers out there like you Matt? Great video, the more you got irritated in the first half the more I smiled - your integrity is a shining example to other dealers who are clearly not like you! They can learn a lot from your approach and ethics.
the closest one i've come across: www.youtube.com/@carukchannel
Matt despite the massive and i mean colossus massive expense. You do make a lot of us laugh our nuts off with your videos. Sarcasm in abundance and the dead pan delivery really cheers me up. Thanks a lot. I know its no consolation but i do wish you the best and keep making the videos. This time next year Rodney.........yes you know the rest😉👍👍👍👍
Haha thank you. That’s some consolation I guess
Great content, Matt, and a salutary lesson for the rest of us. A Land Rover Freelander 2 bought for £1,500 unseen; what could possibly go wrong? You have done a fantastic job bringing this nail of a car back to life and I hope you get your full asking price - you deserve to. One thing you appear to have missed: a replacement for the manky steering wheel.
the only car I seriously regret selling, had a MY13 Free Lander 2 HSE in royal green with almond leather. All the car and comfort anyone would need, mine had a sun roof too.
I am with you when it comes to maintaining your vehicle.
I have religiously maintained my vehicles from new until they were sold or traded in.
In over thirty years of driving, I have only had one no-start, caused by a bad cell on a new battery, and one vehicle that broke down on the road and had to be towed and that was due to a faulty fuel pump relay.
I don't replace my vehicles until they have 250,000 or more and I have enjoyed excellent reliability and durability from many vehicles considered to be problematic.
Same here. Ive owned some right nails but with a few exceptions, ive had great reliability. The highest miler i had was just 256k and it was still going strong when i sold it for £142.50...It should have been £150 but he'd nipped to the pub beforehand...True story.
I have treated all my cars like sht and have only ever had a no start because of a faulty battery at 250000km....
The point about the Autotrader ratings is an interesting one. It clearly works if you're comparing one 3 year old 30k miles Golf with another 3 year old 30k miles Golf, and where there are 200 other near identical ones to allow plenty of comparable evidence and a high level of certainty about relatives values. However it becomes increasingly problematic as cars get older and rarer and where condition and previous maintenance is everything. I wonder if they should scrap the rating scheme on cars above 10 years old.
“I’ve massively overspent” Of course you did I don’t expect anything less
You fing buerk
Need that on a t-shirt
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Couple of years ago I wanted a freelander2, I searched long and hard and finally found a stornaway grey 2010 one, with hse spec and the SD4 engine in auto. Fully loaded. Full service history, good bodywork, etc but ended up putting a further £3,500 into for a refurbished rear diff, discs & pads, air con recharge and a timing belt. It is the way it goes sometimes, but i did enjoy the car
Come on Matt, you skimped a little there. How could you not replace the chewed steering wheel? 😬
Hey Mat, huge fan of the channel. I really love every minute of your videos. They actually taught me to treat my cars a bit better. Can you do a video maybe after 3 months or 6 months showing all the cars you sold and those that are still left? I mean it could be nice content.
I'd say that was worth it. Seems like a good all around motor for £5400. Plus, it doesn't have tons of gadgets and gizmos to go wrong, seems like a base model.
I have stopped smoking now. Thanks Matt. I’ve also tidied up my minging flat. Thanks again.
😊
Always a good day for me when there is a new video!
Glad to hear it!
This really must take the prize for the most neglected car on the channel up to now..
As always you’ve totally transformed it into a very appealing prospect.
Great content as usual Matt, I hope it rewards you for all your efforts with a profitable sale❤.
Fingers crossed!
I remember when I was a kid, my parents bought a new base spec Freelander 2 in 2008 on a typical 3 year PCP deal. In those 3 years the power steering pump went and the manual gearbox began to pop out of reverse, eventually refusing to go into reverse altogether. They've now got a 2017 Disco Sport and, credit where it's due, that car's never given them any trouble in 5 years and the fit and finish of that is night and day compared to the Freelander 2. My Mum still loved the Freelander 2, though, so it was doing something right.
Incredibly brave going from a Freelander 2 then t a disco sport.. especially given it’s largely the same platform!
Not only are your videos entertaining and interesting to watch, they are the best car reviews on You Tube helping us in our second hand purchases. Thanks Matt
Thanks for your videos Matt - brillaint quality as ever. Not sure if it's not already been done by yourself - but would be great to see a video specific to all things tyres (brands to avoid/have generally, part-worns yay/nay etc etc), thanks!
I'll never understand the people that stick such cheap nasty tyres on their vehicles. Mind boggling.
It makes a big cost difference if you replace 4 at £50 or 4 at £170.
Totally agree. Cheap and pretty nasty tyres will let you down in an emergency if you need shorter stopping distances or have to swerve to avoid. Better safer than cheaper.
@@FeeneyStephen4 at £50????
Always laugh when I see a nice expensive car fitted with ditch finder's!
Cheap and mismatched, bad combo
Another presenting masterpiece Matt. You manage to make anything seem worthwhile of your attention and funds to get it back on its legs after it’s been mistreated by idiots running it on a shoestring budget. Always impressive 👌
Thanks for watching
@@HighPeakAutos hey what camera do you use
Hi Matt, great video and you certainly earn your money. This just shows the pitfalls and money holes you can encounter when buying second hand cars unseen. Keep it up!
Your videos, Matt, are amusing, informative and really professionally produced and always appreciated. I hope you get the asking price for this one.
Another good video Matt.
I spoke to a Landrover specialist and they told me the only 'reliable' land rover was the Freelander 2.
Hi Matt the power steering is noisy because you need to replace the power steering reservoir. It has a filter built into it. I had the same problem with my freelander 2. They are great cars. Very reliable. Hope this helps. 😊
Great video, as always, Matt. I did my apprenticeship at a jaguar Land Rover dealership many years ago. In my time, i've owned many cars, but i never owned anything with the green oval badge.
I can already tell you that smell will come back and the nicotine stains will also come back through the headlining when the weather gets colder
Headlining needs to be replaced and underneath it cleaned as the nicotine perments through it onto the metal.
I work in detailing and we get this a lot when people have brought cars and then 3 months down the line it stinks and the roof had turned yellow
As the saying goes" Massively overspent " but you forgot it still needs a steering wheel !
The Freelander 2 one of my favourite cars ever manufactured ❤
Always brilliant content Matt. We love it
One of the nicest car channels on You Tube, honest, funny and full of useful information.
Wow, thanks!
Crikey, what a mammoth task. Massive kudos for going the distance. Many people, including me, would have walked away from this one. It does look good though now. Hope you have a decent sort, with sensible expectations, who buys this car. Although, wouldn't it be a good candidate for Raffle Shack? You might recoup more of your money back that way, and one of us lucky devils could win it for a few pounds. Win, win. Best of luck whatever you decide to do with it 👍
As an owner of a Freelander 2 I laughed when you gave yourself a budget of £1500! On mine there's a sticker inside the passenger front door with the colour on, mine's Stornoway too. They're lovely cars to drive but after a certain age they get Range Rover expensive
This video just reminded me why I gave up buying used cars and have for the last 12 years leased new. Your videos are filmed in a very scenic part of the UK, really nice views.
Thanks!
Thanks Matt for doing this! I know your profits aren't great for this one. But it makes for great entertainment and its amazing to see that a car is saved.
The suspense to confirm if it was Stornoway grey was nail biting stuff😂
I should go into film making. I think I could give Tarantino a run for his money
@@HighPeakAutos it was a great vid, painful spend to bring it back to life😬likeable cars though👍
I actually had a Mk 1 freelander which I flipping loved to bits. Miss it
Matt you are unique amongst your fellow car dealers and deserve all your success - do you ever send these videos to prospective buyers to counteract the Autotrader negative comments?
If looking for a used car it always seems you risk inheriting someone else`s discarded problem but it`s great to see you minimise the risk for buyers as much as you can!
First of all, thanks for wrapping it up in one video.
Secondly, thanks for keeping it real. I'm certain there are many cars on driveways and garages, that misguided people who were influenced by UA-cam or TV, and went to copart or the local classifieds and bought something to make some easy money, only to discover that they have a four wheel money pit.
If you have encouraged a few, to continue watching your honest videos rather than actually give it a go. Then it's job well done Matt.
Yes but look at it. It's gorgeous now, Matt. Good job. Thanks a bunch Autotrader 🤣🤣
Haha cheers
I loved my old Freelander 2… it had a good service, but I still spent £1,300 servicing it at an independent Land Rover specialist.. I wanted to keep it on the road. I sold it about 6 months later way too cheaply. I regret selling it ever since
I think it’s always worth saving a good xar
My favorite Land Rover! I’m glad you made another video
Another class video as always’ I love your passion for giving cars a new lease of life….. even if your profit suffers 👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks 👍
I had a freelander, it will go down in our families history as the worse car we’ve ever owned. Quite literally a different fault appeared every single time we used it. They’re like a very cheap Chinese copy of a Tonka toy, they look the part but they aren’t fit for purpose. I fixed and fixed and fixed it for approximately 18 months until enough was enough when I sold it for a massive lose, just wanting to wash my hands of it. When the buyer came to see it, I literally threw them the keys, said ‘it’s a bag of sh*t’ and closed the door on them, this high pressure sales tactic obviously worked because I never saw that bag of nails again.
Next time buy a Freelander 2
Those 2.2D are bullet proof. There's 2 type. One with a chain that doesn't need changing until 250k. The newer ones have belts. Cost £270 to change. However the engine is solid. Is basically a old transit engine
Dual mass and clutch are the problem
@alundavies5171 I imagine so they had same issue with the x type but the actual engine is one of the very best it really is
Which one doesn't have the belt ? I had a 56 plate , so a very early one - it had a belt , my current 11 plate also has a belt .
@r7coo I'm not sure with the LR cars. I know on the jaguars upto 2010. I imagine it will be the lower power ones upto 160bhp. It seems the more powerful ones have a belt instead of chain.
The hdi Peugeot unit ahh I thought they had BMW unit in them from 320d.
Great vid as always Matt, the Land Rover vids make for the best entertainment 😂 As with all the 'Ive bought'... Vids, I'd love to know what they finally sell for, understand that's probably very difficult to do with how busy you are. But keep the content coming, your vids they are the best👍 15mins of pure escapism, thanks.
Great content and video! Car looks amazing, never thought about owning a freelander
Still need a new steering wheel by the looks of it😂
What you failed to mention is the extortionate £29.99 Car Vertical (-£2.99 discount) bill. For such a cheap car no normal person would use such an expensive HPI check. Far cheaper alternatives available....... Sorry Matt but it needed to be said.
Thank you again for great video
Great video as usual.
I had a Freelander 1, and this model is a definite improvement. Having said that, an Ox and cart would be an improvement over the mark 1. Should anyone be wanting a 4x4 for the coming winter, then this is the one to get. It has had everything sorted, so it is not £500 over priced. Look after this, and it has a lot of life left in it.
It's been a good save for this Freelander 2, especially considering the vile state it was when you first got it. Always think it's sad when a car ends up in that sort of state, especially as it's pretty low mileage too. Shouldn't be any reason why whoever buys it can't get another 100k trouble free miles out of it now with some TLC and regular maintenance.
It looked more like a skip on wheels than a vehicle. Great job by Matt to give it some TLC.
@@djwarren5081 Agreed. You do need to pick your vehicles carefully if you are going to do this sort of thing. For example, the effort and new parts would have been wasted, had it been a Focus of similar age. The Freelander, even at this age, still has a whiff of cred......
Absolutely! But regular maintenance will need to include at least one more diff recon in that period, several sets of brake discs and these rear wheel bearings will need replacing sooner or later. My FL2 is now at 200k miles, so I've been down this road! 🙂
There’s no such thing as a cheap Land Rover! 😂
Always enjoy my day when you post
Hey Matt, Another enjoyable video even though not enjoyable for you with such a big spend on a lemon. Anyway keep the videos coming. It makes my day when I get a notification of a new High Peak video.
I’m the first viewer. I’m so sad!
Of course you have…😂😂
Best comment’ always 😂
I'm glad you stuck with this one Matt and really hope you make the asking price for this car. Great video. 👍
Big love back bro, top work 👍
You really need to stop buying these bangers and expecting a Rolls Royce. I think you need to get out of the game.
Not only is this the best car channel on u tube but you must be one of the most hard working on u tube
Cheers
Hello, Iam a french car addict !
I have 2 free2 and the oldest from 2010 TD4 has 340000 km and doesn"t want to die, just changed rear diff !
🏁🏁🏁🏁
Good evening Matt,
Thank you for this particular video, because when I get my current car paid off,I’m really considering buying want of these yolks!
Thank you so much :-)
I worked with someone some years ago that had one of these new as a company car.
He said to me:
_"I'll be out for an hour or so this afternoon to get the Freelander serviced. Well, when I say 'serviced' I actually mean they've got to finish building it."_
- The fact that I won't tell you what company we were working for at the time tells you what company we were working for at the time.
Hi Matt, your car videos are simply awesome 😊😊😊
At this point massively overspent doesn’t matter, the ad revenue must more than make up for overspend and let’s face it, it’s the overspends, great transformations and reviving old cars that keeps us coming 😄
Amazing video Matt, I’d love to see a I bought a cheap Skoda Octavia
We're about to pick up a freelander 2! Great timing, cheers for the video
Your videos never fail to entertain mate! Absolute genius with a sharp sense of humour!
Glad you like them!
Another masterclass here Matt, and a lesson to us all, when buying second hand (privately) how people treat their cars like this is beyond me! Also Autotrader, so that sort of thing all the time.
I recently sold my LR FL2 HSE which I have enjoyed owning - although they aren't money pits all year round, they occasionally become money pits when everything goes wrong on them at once. Repairing a 4x4 system that likely hasn't been maintained isn't cheap!
The diffs break, the Haldex system is literally never maintained because people/mechs don't even know its there, and people put crap tyres on them!
I gave mine the full treatment in the time I owned it but I'm much happier with my BMW i3 - doesn't drive like a barge and just so much cheaper to run!
Won't be going down any bridle ways in the i3 though 😉
that valet for 60 was an absolute bargain , also i said the paint work done cheap would be 395 , --- you did well there as well ;;
Thanks for a super video Matt. Got my High Peak t shirt today and stickers 👌🏽
Ah thanks for the order
I’m an avid listener in NZ, love cars, love your tours Matt 😊
Well I too have a Stornaway grey FL2 GS Auto so this video was just too close to home… 😂 I’ve also shelled out for a diff rebuild with uprated bearings, cam belt, water pump and an air con rad, but it’s given me nearly 70k of faultless motoring and has proven to be an excellent towing vehicle to boot. Great vid, keep up the good work!
Another excellent video...thank you.
This is absolutely perfect. I’ve also just bought a cheap freelander 2 as a 2nd car. Mine is an 07 HSE and I paid £2.5k so a bit more than you! Needed a cam belt and has some rust issues which I didn’t know about 😅 ahh well it’s a fun project for me!
On the flip side mine has been well cared for so this has actually made me feel a bit better about my purchase!
I for one appreciate wrapping up the 'i bought' videos in one go, much better than waiting 2 weeks and forgetting the original vid
Hi Matt. Love your work 👍
Yaaay! Love your videos m8!
Glad you like them!
Comedy gold Matt, thank you as always for this.
Love your all-in-one format Matt, nobody else does it better (that I have found). You new it was a nail at the beginning, you should have followed your instinct and bashed it out trade the next day and got your money back. I wonder if there is a course of motor trader advice available somewhere?
Another really enjoyable video. More a resurrection than a restoration. I can see how difficult it must be to cut your losses once you are so far down the refurbishment rabbit hole. Sincerely hope there is a bit of profit - given the time you have spent, hopefully a bit more than minimum wage!
Love your videos and you always end up with a well presented vehicle in the end . Can't help wondering why after spending so much you didn't change the steering wheel ?
Another entertaining video. Always look forward to the next one...😮
Glad you enjoyed it
😨😨🤯🤯 fantastic videos as always
My dad drove his Nissan over 8,000 miles overdue for a service, and it blew my mind how he didn't seem to care a bit
Haven't watched it yet !!! but guaranteed to be an excellent and top-quality upload as per mate👌👌
Much appreciated!
Great video. Thanks
Sorry it always seems to cost you a packet to get these vehicles right, but you do an outstanding job of putting faith back when it comes to dealers. Plus, you are saving vehicles that would otherwise be scrapped or worse, sold on to an unsuspecting mug. Many thanks for the effort you put in saving these cars, we all appreciate it. Keep up the good work. All the best.
Great video it looks a nice car now mate
While some of your videos maybe short, we still appreciate the time and effort to make them, see you next Sunday
We had one of the first Freelander 2’s when they came out, on a 56 plate, HSE in Stornaway. We owned it for 8 years so you can tell by that we did like it. Had a Mk1 before that which I was pleased to get rid of.
The Mk2 wasn’t without a lot of problems early on so got to know the dealer and LR HQ quite well. Looked at the new Discovery Sport when it came out but my head ruled my heart and we bought a new Merc 220 GLA 4Matic which proved to be excellent.
Matt You deserve a medal for all the work that you spend putting right all the wrongs of bad previous car ownership and again I think that you need shares in the mechanics that you use. You must at least have a separate bay for all your vehicles, maybe shares in Euro Part as well! All the very best Crawford. PS The 530GT was a good one also
Hi Matt good advice on spending more and getting a better car.
