Aloha Nelson Eddy and MusashiTzu !!!!!!!!!! Love your serenade "Because." You brilliantly sung it to touch my heart and soul !!!!!!! Am now 78 yrs. old and have enjoyed immensely your gift of song !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've seen your past movie performances and songs with Jeanette MacDonald many many times over and over again !!!!!!!!!!! You will be remembered forever in the world !!!! Grateful fan, Robert S.J. Hu July 29, 2020.
You appear to know what you are writing about. I grew in the 1950s and loved the Nelson Eddy-Jeannette McDonald movies, but Eddy always had a nasal quality to his voice. Is that not a negative for a singer?
Aloha !!!!!! I haven't forgotten you Nelson Eddy. You sing so heavenly from your heart and soul. This song is a classic love serenade. Again, Thank You !!!!!!!!! Robert May 2, 2020.
Aloha Nelson Eddy and MusashiTzu !!! Thanks for posting this rendition of "Because." I love this song of love that is so enchanting, sincere, and mesmerizing !!!!! Robert S.J. Hu Sept. 7, 2020.
I read that on a passport application Nelson listed his height as 5 feet 10 and a half. I think he wore the elevator shoes because his singing partner Gale Sherwood was five feet ten.Jeanette MacDonald was five feet five, but small boned which made her appear smaller. Nelson and Jeanette did fit well together- Jeanette`s head came just above Nelson`s shoulder which made it perfect for her to lean her head on his shoulder. Their voices blended together beautifully. I love Nelson and Jeanette.
Passports sometimes lie. My great-grandmother's passport showed a later birth date too. I saw him in person singing solo, and I was next to his platform in the Empire Room. He no way was 5 feet 10. I also read Jeanette was smaller than that. Many movie stars have been and are shorter than average,
I'm a Gemini also and I'm 6' 6". They used to say the bigger they are the harder they fall. So I developed the saying the smaller they are the farther you can throw them. I saw a movie on TCM last week with Nelson Eddy and Jeanette Mc Donald . What a beautiful woman she was.
I love this beautiful song sung so tenderly by Nelson Eddy. I also enjoy Mario Lanza`s rendition and also the rendition by 'The Three Tenors". Thank You for sharing with Us. Lorraine
If you want to hear Nelson sing it WITHOUT that breath before the last 'mine', (submitted Valentine's Day 2013) do a search on "Nelson Eddy Sings - Because" in youtube... the man had the most incredible breath control; he didn't need that breath. He obviously took it for artistic emphasis... the word 'mine' was very important to him!! ; )
He was my movie idol when I was a girl, and the publicists said he was 6 feet tall. Years later when he performed at the Empire Room in Chicago, I was disappointed to see he was wearing elevator shoes because he was short! Jeannette MacDonald, I learned, was tiny, so they fit well, as well as did their beautiful voices.
I am reading Sweet Hearts,,the great love cover up on Eddy and Jeanette MacDonald. His hair did not turn grey. It turned blond. Red heads turn blond age...not grey! I kn0w I have red heads in my family. The author explains this in her book...It is a must read!!!!
Nelson Eddy was the highest paid singer IN THE WORLD for 14 consecutive years, only to be replaced by Frank Sinatra (who greatly admired him) in 1949. Although his modest and self-deprecating nature did not allow him to respond to repeated invitations by the Met to audition, Met divas Rise Stevens, Nadine Conner, Dorothy Kirsten, and Eleanor Steber all thought him equal to the honor. Truly one of the greatest baritones of the 20th century.
@mikemcgee : Nelson`s natural hair color was red. His hair started turning gray in his mid-twenties. In his black and white MGM films, his red-gray hair appeared blonde. Lorraine
Now I under stand the mystery after all these years .He was prematurely gray. I bet he was thinking of dying it too but M.g. m felt his gray made him becoming on the screen
The author is Guy d'Hardelot (August 1858 - January 7, 1936); the pen name of Helen Rhodes (nee Helen Guy), a French composer, pianist, and teacher.
Please excuse my limited knowledge concering singing technique, but why is it wrong for Nelson to take a breath before the last note? He does this also on other recordings.I like hearing the intimate sound of him taking a breath. Lorraine
Nelson Eddy. - one of the absolutely best singers of all time. Wonderful male voice.
A beautiful version of this song sung by Nelson. No doubt he was one of the greatest baritones ever.

Phrasing, breath control, musicianship. A wonderful singer. I want to hear more.

Yes, many movie stars are shorter than normal. What is most important is their talent. Good things often come in small packages.

This song was first sung by Enrico Caruso who died the year Mario Lanza was born in 1921.
Nelson Eddy sang it before Mario Lanza.

@lovetheoldies100 Deanna Durbin does a wonderful version of it too. It's available on UA-cam

Dopo aver ascoltato Mario Lanza, questi è una cosa direi che vale poco....

I agree. Would they rather he pass out on the stage for lack of air? I've heard others take a breath.
im related to this guy my name is samuel eddy
Magic, You have a classy relative, and oh how he could sing. I have always enjoyed him.'ct
I am now 84 sent away for a photo when I was9 still have the photo
I wish I had seen him when he came to Australia but I had a young family and lived too far away
Mario Lanza sang this too.
What about the version by The great Danish Wagnerian tenor Melchior.
Perry Como does a great job of this song too!
What an outstanding man, a voice to die twice over, my mum in the 1940, s adored him, we seen all the old b/ w movies, at 80 I still adore him.
from that picture it indicated that the true color of his hair was darker orginally
