Outstanding Joe. I'm building another Ford FE for a customer and it's amazing how it looks like Ford was copying the Mopar big block engine. From the rear main seal design, skirted block and rocker arm layout. VERY similar. Great job!
Good luck! The only issue I had with this set was that the rockers ate in to the shaft’s they provided. I checked them after the dyno and they had tracks in most of them. 440 source replaced the shafts for free, but I used Harland sharp shafts in the 508 build.
Thanks for the video. It’s helpful as I have to do the same shimmy dance to setup my prw rockers for my small block Mopar. I think I need to shave down/clearance a couple of my rocker pedestals as they’re a little too wide and don’t allow my shims to sit flush with the holddowns.
Great video.... Bit disappointing no oil hole at the valve roller yet two holes at the shaft for the roller bearings. The old banana line chamfer on the shafts worked on the stock shafts.... Guess a drill would solve that issue if your were so to be inclined.
I replaced the massive steel spacers with cut to length aluminium tube. There is really no stress on them. I'd modifie those rockers with a drill for oiling the Rollers!
I haven’t seen that before. I’d bet it’s a high rpm, too tight of clearance issue. I did see that the 440 source shims have a raised lip on one side where they were pressed out of a sheet. The mopar performance ones were slick steel on all sides.
The Mopar shims might be .020" (I know one of the brands is) which by helps getting the clearance where you want it. Keep both in the shop. Build is looking good. Man, what if we had parts like these in the old days. Strokers, aluminum heads...We'd all be dead.
With what heads may I ask ? I want to use them on my Trick Flow headed LA small block I’m starting to get serious about, but some say to only use the Harlan Sharp rockers. What’s your opinion ?
If you call Harland Sharp, ask for Randy Jr. And mention my channel name. I’m trying to work a deal for viewers to save some money. Definitely savings over ordering from summit or Mancini. Call them direct.
Spacing is good at .015-.030. The oiling is said to be ok because of the Massive amount of oil splashed. I want to film inside a cover while it’s running. May be a fun video
I would, if the spacer was thick enough to cut down. Seems like they could have made them a bit thicker to do that. I have a Hughes kit here too and it was very similar. I also have a comp kit that has different width shims. After analyzing, it seems the 440 stuff works best with their rockers.
The rockers were decent, but the rollers ate in to the shafts. They left large, deep grooves in the shafts. For the 508, I got Harland shafts for $350 and paired the 440 source rockers with them.
The 440 source rockers dug into the shafts on my 406, after the dyno pulls. I swapped mine before running it at the track. The Harland shafts are made to work with the same style rocker.
@@JustMoparJoe Very interesting! I am preparing to build a 440 Source stroker kit as well so taking great interest in your build. Mine will be a pure street engine though.
@@rboynton8671 good deal. I like their kits. This build series is really applicable to them all. Good luck with your project! Email of I can help, justmoparjoe@gmail.com
I thought you had a problem with a set of them and that’s wen Harland shape sent you a set you could get them to line up or something like that with source rockers
Yes sir. I’m certain I had mentioned that in the video. I went with Harland sharp shafts to prevent the wear issues that I had on my 400 with the 440 source shafts.
I definitely love that Valley Pan. I think it’s God’s will for my life to have one of those in my future.
Good episode. Enjoying this build series.
Thanks Mike! Definitely worth the $50 extra to get the one with removable center. Easy access to lifters and pushrods of need be.
Nice work.
Good detail on the rocker tech.
Looks good Joe.
Thanks for sharing.
Take care, Ed.
Thanks, Ed! It’s very close to finally making noise!
Very awesome 🏁🇺🇸🏁🇺🇸
Thanks Jeff!
Good stuff as usual Joe! This one's gonna be a runner!🏁🏁
Thanks Tony!

Thanks buddy! You’re cranking them out! Hopefully you can get a break and cruise that charger around!
Harland Sharp is good stuff! Good video!
Thank you, Tim! Finally to the fun part!
Keep the tutorials coming Mopar Joe always educational and informative also entertaining.😊
Thanks brother! Hope to get some good headway today
What I love to do..... Looking promising....Cool music... Great video content 😎 Thanks
Thank you for the support!
Informative as always. Thanks Joe.
Any time!
Keep the knowledge coming 👍🏻🇦🇺⛽️.
Thanks buddy
Thank you for the tips
Thanks John! It can be a headache, but is crucial
Awesome thanks for a great video. I’m installing 440 source rockers on my 440 this weekend.

@@JustMoparJoeI’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for that. Thanks!
Good tech Sir...thanks for sharing Joe
Thanks Mr. Wood!
Great attention to details makes a happy motor. Great content joe.
Thank you, Jeff!
Great video as always!! Right there is the reason why I keep all shims
Thanks Greg!

Good luck! I’ve got more shims on the way.
Im definitely jelly of its owner!
Absolutely! This will make a stout truck engine!

Thanks John. It’d need to be a tiny hole. Havent had an issue yet on the 406. We shall see
Yep, works great😊
Thanks, Chris!
Easy!!
Like Sunday morning

Right on 👍🏼
Put the thick shims next to the rockers, the thing ones can get into the rocker and seize it.
I haven’t seen that before. I’d bet it’s a high rpm, too tight of clearance issue. I did see that the 440 source shims have a raised lip on one side where they were pressed out of a sheet. The mopar performance ones were slick steel on all sides.
Love to see it thx man
Thanks, Rich!
It's got all the goods 😎
Yes sir. Should fire off soon!

@@claudenoel4666 I only bought a set and ran quickly on my 408. They were 1.5 ratio and I moved up to a 1.6. No issues with them.

What does your shop guy recommend regarding spacing and oiling the rollers?
Spacing is good at .015-.030. The oiling is said to be ok because of the Massive amount of oil splashed. I want to film inside a cover while it’s running. May be a fun video
Clearance the spacer instead of using thin shims.
I would, if the spacer was thick enough to cut down. Seems like they could have made them a bit thicker to do that. I have a Hughes kit here too and it was very similar. I also have a comp kit that has different width shims. After analyzing, it seems the 440 stuff works best with their rockers.
Hello Joe, on your 400 build, what starter are you using?
It’s the off the shelf Oreily mini starter for a 90’s ram truck.
Would you recommend ther rockers for the budget builder although ther not really budget here in Canada only for about a 450 to 500 horse 440
The rockers were decent, but the rollers ate in to the shafts. They left large, deep grooves in the shafts. For the 508, I got Harland shafts for $350 and paired the 440 source rockers with them.
Wondering why you got different shafts if you already had 440 Source ones?
The 440 source rockers dug into the shafts on my 406, after the dyno pulls. I swapped mine before running it at the track. The Harland shafts are made to work with the same style rocker.

I'm surprised they don't aim the holes towards the roller.
Exactly! It’s working on the 400 so far
I thought you had a problem with a set of them and that’s wen Harland shape sent you a set you could get them to line up or something like that with source rockers
The Harland’s were always spot on for me. My 440 source rockers went on big mikes Green Goblin charger.
Are these rockers from 440source ?
Yes sir. I’m certain I had mentioned that in the video. I went with Harland sharp shafts to prevent the wear issues that I had on my 400 with the 440 source shafts.
HS makes rockers for Mncni racing.-$
Yes sir. According to HS, Mancini pairs an off brand shaft with the red colored rockers to reduce costs. The orange ones get the HS shafts as usual.
