I wanted to acknowledge that I have an extreme privilege to quit my job, and I don't mean to be insensitive to anyone struggling right now. I've worked hard for the last 15 years- diligently saving, diversifying income, and keeping expenses to a minimum. This has afforded me the opportunity to pause and take a short break while I figure things out. A privilege I am extremely grateful for. Thanks, everyone for the outpouring of support! 🙏 I appreciate you all. Nathaniel, I am enjoying the course so far. Plus, I am a fan of your content. I was also surprised to learn how young you are- yet have the perspective of such a mature person. Kudos to you for being yourself, and sharing that journey with the world. It inspires me.
You just proved this statement "Quitting a job doesn't mean sitting jobless". You're still productive.... and always a source of motivation and inspiration for me. You are one of my role model....
Hey Matthew, you're such an inspiration. Last year I did exactly the same thing - quit my job when I realised I wasn't growing anymore. I decided to give myself the time I needed to figure out what I wanted to do. This changed when the pandemic hit. I started working again as many people were losing their jobs and I became fearful that it was not the right time to take a break not knowing where the world was going and if jobs would be available during this unknown amount of time. Those 2 months were the happiest I had been in years, I was able to do similar things (DIY, woodworking, self improvement and doing things I had been putting off due to working all the time) and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If it could be done again, I would allow myself more time before jumping back into work. That time was invaluable.
Melissa... this sentence "doing things I had been putting off due to working all the time" hits deep. I have done the same on my last two jobs; left when I didn't feel fully comfortable or I wanted another challenge. I have always ALWAYS taken time in-between to breath, do things I couldn't do, travel and it is very odd to realize... work often gets in front of other important or valuable things. Whether we enjoy our work or not, it always feels like we work too much to also breath on the side. Those time spent jobless, but fulfilled are a blessing and a privilege depending on your job market (as you mentioned with the pandemic). Wishing you to have this time at some point again and if not, to manage to carve out important OFF/YOU time during work "season".
@@mickaelsflow6774 Hey Mickaël that's a very good point and something I am striving for now. Thank you for the words of affirmation, I will definitely take a leaf out your book and think of this going forward. You're absolutely right, work does get in the way - if we allow it to. The long hours were definitely not worth it in the long run. While we all need to earn our living we also need to stop and smell the roses and realise that sometimes it's okay to take a step back and simply exist and enjoy life.

Also, the fact that I organize my day in a similar fashion to yours even months after quitting my job feels reassuring. High five on that!

Keep it up Matthew. Stefan Sagmeister used to take a one year sabbatical every 7 years to recharge.

Hi from Thailand. Your video inspired me to start my new career as a content creator, great job mate, thank you
Thanks. Enjoy the process.
Although I don't have the financial stability I'd like, I too decided to quit my job. I have no idea what I'll do but I know I will figure it out. I look up to you for inspiration and sometimes validation to gain confidence that I am capable of achieving great things if I put in the work. Good luck to you Matthew.
Good luck to you Josefina.
Your journey never ends. Life has a way of changing things in incredible ways.

You are my most favourite member in the futur, i watched all the videos in building a brand series. Your works have been phenomenal (xbox, musical video...). I am happy that you are taking break, unlearning and relearning and i am excited to see what you become.

these videos are so relaxing
Hi Matthew, first of all, your style of film and content is very therapeutic, I love it. Secondly, whether at Futr or other career path you chose, some of us designers/creatives still look up to you because you're just-so human. It's something we need to see, feel and resonate with, for the sake of our mental well-being. And for that, thank you. Godspeed.
Thanks your the thoughtful words. Appreciate it 🙏
