@@peeticek1624 wrong. The point of the test isn't to simulate real-world inaccuracies, but to isolate variables down to just the differences in the charging bricks themselves. It doesn't matter if people don't actually leave their phones in airplane mode when charging; we're here to see how wattage ON ITS OWN affects the phone's potential charging speed.
If actual scientific tests were done without controlled variables, then results would be highly varied and ultimately useless.

Energy consumption of wifi is almost half of cellular and on wifi it is upmost a watt during active use in bad conditions. Considering the time spent charging and time the phone spends transferring data in the background, it probably would be within margin of error for sure. Unfortunately, I broke my 5w charger (I bend these ”sticks“ that you plug in) and I couldn‘t find a really authentic Apple 5w charger online, not even Apple themselves sell them anymore (at least in my country), so I had to get a 12w charger (I wanted it to be as slow as possible), and it charges really fast, but my phone gets quite warm while charging (like I was playing an intense game with detailed 3D graphics), so I always take off the case now.
