Thanks for this!! I was informed by my landlord that my little guy barks incessantly when I’m at work. When I’m home, I can control what he does. I absolutely don’t want him shocked, he’s quite sensitive. Reading reviews on Amazon can get tiresome and confusing. So I found your review. So informative! For the price, I’m going to try the first one. Just because I don’t need a remote. I just want him to stop barking when I’m not home. Thanks again for such a concise review!

This is not an appropriate asset. Train him being alone instead of punishing the dog when he verbalises anger or fear. It could make it MUCH worse!

I bought a shock collar and a bark collar. I disabled the shock feature on both collars. My dog is eager to please, and if she is really distracted, she responds beautifully to a beep. (When her collar beeps, she immediately looks around for me and comes.) She was starting to develop a habit of barking in the car when she was looking forward to her destination. I put the (non-shocking) bark collar on her, and the barking stopped immediately. It only took the bark collar to vibrate two times to nip this behavior in the bud. Great, humane technology.

I'd say it depends on the dog, but my German Shephard hates the vibrate, so I do not need to use the shock feature. He knows when the collar is on, and heels perfectly by my side without a leash. The vibrating collar was a game changer for us. I use the beep as a warning and if he needs a correction, I use the vibrate. My dog is only 7 months old and is perfect off-leash, so yes, this works! Honestly, I was AMAZED how much of a difference this made.

The main thing about training is positive reinforcement. At least IMO, you have to train with the collar and positively reinforce the wanted behavior, especially so if the wanted behavior was in response to the collar. Just saying from a vet tech wife's perspective and we've trained my epilepsy service dog in German and now our 2nd deaf dog with sign language. Step 2: PERSISTENCE AND CONSISTENCY regardless of how aggravating it may seem. I hope that helped some! 😊

I have been thinking about these collars, but I don't want my dog to NOT bark since that is their nature, but control the barking. I have been thinking of a handheld unit so when she starts barking and I tell her enough, if she does not listen, then use the collar and positive reinforcement.

WHY in a world that protects so strongly against misinformation, is this crap allowed to continue. A so-called "shock" collar when used properly is no more uncomfortable for a dog than a vibration collar. A critical thinker may ask themselves why a vibration collar works. Because it makes the dog UNCOMFORTABLE!!!! ENOUGH of the dramatization of SHOCKING dogs. The right way to use a remote collar is to set it at a level that they barely notice it. It's not like you are electrocuting the dog. If the dog yelps when you use the collar, then you're a jerk and you are using it improperly. Jackelyn says that she tried the vibrate collar before using it on her dog. Did she EVER try a "shock collar" when set at the proper level on herself to see how it affected her???? If she did, I'm certain that she wouldn't even feel it, because she is not a dog. She's a human, and the most common (and cruel btw) mistake that dog owners make is treating their dogs like humans instead of dogs. I'm so fed up with this "woke" dog misinformation that is actually cruel to dogs in the name of humanity. If you care about your dog, find a good balanced trainer that really understands the nature of dogs and doesn't deal with them like they are humans.

We had the slider open and the next door neighbor neighbors dog was barking his head off as per usual, normally our dogs would be barking their heads off in return. We has the collar on Cody and he barked twice quietly then walked away. Our other dog is not as bad of a barker but she does get Cody riled up so if the collar continues to work for Cody we may get one for her too.

Thank you for this honest review! I have a Great Pyrenees/ Aus. Sheppard mix and she barks when the kids play in the front yard because she wants to be with them & can't because she is still unreliable with the "come" command. She also sometimes barks when she is happily playing but she doesn't just bark all the time like other Great Pyrenees dogs. Problem is my neighbor, we'll just call her Karen, called the cops on us to complain about the barking and where I live apparently "barking dogs" are not allowed in town. She didn't even come speak to my husband or myself first just went straight to the police. I'm scared of losing my dog so I just bought the first one you reviewed and it should get here tomorrow so I'm really hoping it works on her. If it works I may also try the second one for when she jumps or steals random things from the house in order to try to lure us into chasing her around the yard lol. It really depends on the dog. Most dogs find vibration far more stressful than low level stim from an ecollar. Bark collars I don't agree with as they are actually sending strong shocks and aren't controlled by the handler. Ecollars on the other hand, send electrical signal similar to a tens unit. The proper way to use it is to use the lowest level of stimulation needed to get the dogs attention. It's no different than leash pressure other than the ecollar isn't directional. Proper use of an ecollar involves teaching the dog a command through luring and rewarding, and then layering the ecollar stimulation in after the dog knows the command. If barking is a problem, proper crate training works very well.

You don’t have to hurt your dog with an e collar if you know wtf you’re doing or talking about. People are so ignorant and judgmental yet they recommend this which can freak your dog out more! Then your dog becomes suspicious of vibrations or beeps. Every time your phone vibrates the dog hides. A low level stim is humane! I’m so sick of being criticized when I’m literally keeping my dog from tackling children or skateboarders.

Usually the beep or vibration helps them stop unless the dog is aggressive then use the shock. I take care of a rotti and he is aggressive with people and dogs so the vibration or beep does nothing. The shock at times doesn't get him to stop he does have a trainer but I question wat he actually does. Idk why ppl are so sensitive towards prongs. They are effective but you cannot leave it on the animal, use it for a walk then take it off, also people but them on incorrectly they sit low not high but the ecollar it up high but not to tight make sure two fingers can go under easily Teach your dog boundaries by using a create and you dont ket them dominant you. Socialize them with people and dogs early in life.

My dog uses an e-collar, what you refer to as a shock collar. You should teach your dog to leave it rather than an automated scary vibration. Look up Tom Davis. If you use a reputable trainer, they will set the e-collar up to use 1 level below dog’s reaction, i.e. ear twitch, slight movement of his head. It also has a pager (vibrate only) which is for emergency use only for most dogs. My dog is significantly disturbed by the vibration while with the electric impulse he barely notices. I tried it on myself. Doesn’t hurt AT ALL. It has 127 levels and he trains at 6-7. Before you criticize e-collars, you should educate yourself.

Ecollars don't shock the dog. It's like a tens unit. They are very humane and useful tools. Many dogs hate vibration collars, but I've yet to see a dog react poorly to low-level Ecollar stim. Now, if you're talking about bark collars and invisible fences, those are horrible, inhumane, and ineffective.

My friend’s dog had an invisible fence in his yard during our childhood, because his parents wanted one. It was just awful. Poor guy.

@yote333 With ecollars, you use the lowest level of stimulation that the dog responds to. Quality ecollars have around 100 levels of stimulus. My dogs working level is between a 7 and a 15, depending on her excitement level. I've put the collar on my neck at the highest level (123 in my case). It doesn't hurt. it just makes your muscles contract but that's about it.

Nice review but no shock collars shouldn’t have any type of prongs on the back that goes next to a dog’s neck, like the one in your right hand has 2 pretty long metal prongs covered w/silicone caps.
Btw: ALL non remote bark collars should be destroyed as dogs can only communicate w/their voices and I’ve personally have seen dogs who don’t dare to make ANY type of noise, to let you know if they’re in pain, lost, lost & hurt, etc., as they’re afraid of being beeped, sprayed, vibrated to even static shocked, even when the collars aren’t on the dogs!! All because dog owners keep these auto no bark collars on 24/7 or close to that amount of time.
If you don’t have 1-2hrs/day for up to a year+ to train your new puppy or dog properly..
    DON’T BUY/ADOPT A PUPPY OR DOG🤬

The reason these are not humane is because you are using negative tactics to force your dog to listen to you. It is negative because it DOESN’T FEEL GOOD is annoying and painful. Your dog DOESN’T LIKE IT. Which is why he she performs. Your dog doesn’t respect and admire you. Your dog sees you as insecure and not as a pack leader. Who told you buzz collars are humane? You want to work on developing a relationship and emotional connection with your dog. These collars do the opposite of that as they cause FEAR and ANXIETY.

Yesss thank you im so happy thay some people understand this, u must use and e collar correct for it to not cause much stress, also some dog find vibrate more stressful then the low level stim, I use the dogtra e collar because the low lever, do whats right for your dog and not for you 🥰
