At 17:46 you mention the webbing, for the longest time I didn't know what this was until I watched "12 O'clock High" and noticed all the B-17 flight crew wore something very similar. There were several similar models for all military aircraft until the jet age when ejection seats where introduced and modern tight-fitting parachute harnesses negated this type of loose-fitting parachute harness. I'm not trying to nitpick, just add some clarification, so the pronunciation of Luftwaffe is "Luft-waffa" and it was the German Air Force not Army. The German Army was Heer, Navy was Kriegsmarine, and Wehrmacht was the combined German forces. Luke's helmet looks very similar to modern helicopter helmets. Han's outfits are probably mix-matched uniforms and civilian clothes which is common for people leaving the military. His vest is definitely some type of tactical vest but I could never figure out why there were pockets on the back due to being impractical and uncomfortable when loaded with items. I never noticed the pockets until multiple viewings when the movies went to VHS. I always thought Obi-Wan's robes were practical to living in a desert environment because they looked very similar to Owen Lars' robes, and after spending some time in the Middle East robes like those would be very practical. I was quite surprised in The Phantom Menace when the Jedi weren't wearing outfits like Luke's in Return of the Jedi, but in Revenge of the Sith, Anakin did wear dark robes and an outfit similar to the pinafore Luke wore over his black outfit in Return of the Jedi. I didn't know and I'm glad George Lucas didn't go the nudity route with this movie because it would've been just another sci-fi movie that would get lost due to being like most others. I don't mind he took inspiration from the old classics but glad he kept focus and gave us what he did instead. Those old classics are cheesy beyond all means and are the reason it took so long for sci-fi to be taken seriously. Loved the video and will be watching the others soon. Also, please don't take anything I say here as criticism because you've done a great job.
Thank you so much John, I appreciate all of your comments very much. I am terrible with pronunciation. The only language that I am capable of doing justice is Swedish. As far as the nudity, I would take that with a grain of salt. Andrew and I had different interpretations of some of the sketches. I would very much like to ask Roger Christian is he knows for sure because I interviewed him on Star Wars day. Sadly John Mollo passed away. 😊
@@Costume_CO You're very welcome and your pronunciation isn't bad at all, and I didn't even pickup any accent. Sorry to hear about John Mollo passing, hopefully you can talk to Roger in a follow up interview, it would make a great video. I should've posted this on the other video, but I've noticed those Chelsea boots in the Stargate TV shows also. Seems like everybody in that universe wears those kind of boots except for the SG teams. Also, the U.S. Navy used to have that kind of boot. I had a pair but was never able to break them in, they killed my feet but were very easy to shine.
It's surprising how sexy they wanted Leia to originally be. The ultimate design is conservative, but it is very iconic. Hard to imagine another look for her.
I'm happy that they didn't make Leia a sexualised Barbydoll. Her character is brave, clever and tough, an inspiration for girls ( it didn't matter that this is a fantasyfilm) in the seventies and decades after.
fabian H1166 I give a lot of credit to George for standing his ground on this one because it seems like the concept artists were really pushing for a sexed up leia
Awesome work, as always! Is it just me, or does it seem like the The Force Awakens design team drew some inspiration for the look of Rey from the "female Luke" concept art? Both have goggles and a staff, with clothing tailored to a desert planet environment. I do know Lucasfilm doesn't throw any unused design away and has frequently combed through previously discarded art to seek inspiration, so it makes sense if some of Rey's attire and accessories date back to "female Luke." Always great to hear Holst's "The Planets" in its entirety in the background of the video! :-D
Yes, defintely correct about Rey being insired by female Luke. I know that Andrew has referred to this quite often and that they will use Ralph McQuarrie's concept art where they can. As you say they own it, might as well use it! As for the music, that was Andrew's recommendation - my understanding is that John Williams was inspired by it for the Star Wars soundtrack.
Despite what a lot of people think and what Lucas himself has said, I still think Disney used much of Lucas' script and character ideas that he handed them for the ST. The ONLY thing they chucked out was his precious midichlorians and Whills, which I bet annoyed him immensely.

WOW...you REALLY did your homework on this one...absolutely fascinating!! One thing I noticed with Leia's dress is that she was likely not wearing a bra.
Thank you so much Lou Lou. :) And you are correct she is not. 😊
Great video. However, Chasm is pronounced incorrectly. Its pronounced with a hard CH sound, like Kasm.
Thank you, I should know better. 😀
I like the info in your videos. Somehow I'm picking the background music as too loud. I don't know if others feel that way. I could enjoy these more without the overwhelming music which adds nothing really.
Thanks for the feedback Sarah. I have lowered the levels considerably on the music since this video was made.
Hope you find my more recent videos acceptable. Cheers Heidi.
Costume CO excellent thank you
I like the costumes of the original trilogy because simple is better, what about star trek movies? are you going to do videos too?
Thanks for commenting. I have watched Star Trek, but I am not as immersed in that universe to do a video about it.
@@Costume_CO Ok
What treat your journeys of fantasy worlds are
Thank you so much! I have another SW video on the back-burner. Hope to get that out soon. :)
It's Toshiro MI-FOO-NEH, not MI-FOON, with equal stress on each syllable
Sorry about that. :)
A New Hope is the only Star Wars movie that you're doing? That's it?
Hello, I might do Empire one day.
A reason to take what George Lucas says about Star Wars with a grain of salt is that George Lucas is a storyteller. Telling tall tales is his profession.
Good point Alan.
Yes, four years late. But, Toshiro Mifune! It's pronounced Mih-foo-neh, not... Mifyoon.
Thank you!
Why is everyone a giant pervert? Wow.
You mean George Lucas? Or me?
@@Costume_CO they probably meant G.L.
Thanks Medea 😊
