  • The Igloo Iceless Thermoelectric Cooler is one of the most popular 12V Plug In coolers we have reviewed: www.coolersonsa...
    The Iceless comes in multiple sizes including 26qt, 28qt & 40qt. In this review we take a look at the 40qt compared to the Koolatron Voyager. Both of these cooler are able to reach an internal temperature 38°-40° lower than the ambient temperature. In our experience almost all thermoelectric coolers operate in a similar fashion. In order to reduce the internal temperature anymore you could need a fridge/freezer combo that contains a compressor. We have review those as well:
    Engel Fridge/Freezer: www.coolersonsa...
    Dometic vs Engel: www.coolersonsa...
    As a result of watching and reviewing several Plug In Coolers we have noticed that prices fluctuate quite a bit with these units. We often notice the 28qt Igloo Iceless cheaper than the 26Qt Iceless. In our opinion, you might as well get the lager cooler for cheaper...

    I enjoy your channel and reviews. Actually one of the only channels on UA-cam that I have subscribed.
    I'm not really sold on Thermoelectric coolers anymore. I purchased a Koolatron P75 years back (early 2000's) and I was so excited to not deal with ice. It did cool down 40 degrees below ambient. I had the AC to 12v adapter and would take it into a hotel room when on road trips so that it would not kill my car battery. One of the problems I have with them is that they suck a lot of power compared to a compressor fridge. I think I measured the 12v current near 5 amps. In an attempt to save power, being an EE, I designed a module with LCD display where I could control the cooler like a thermostat. A lot of times I would camp in the mountains where it was a lot cooler too. And so there was no point in having it on when the inside of the cooler was below 40 degrees. That worked fine and would shut it off when it hit my trip point.
    After a couple of years it started to not perform as well temperature wise, but it still sucked 5 amps. I thought about replacing the thermoelectric chip. But one thing that makes these work well is the thermo path between the chip and the heat sink. That has to be good. I decided to not mess with it and I got an Engel MT45. This was over 10 years ago. I absolutely love that Engel.
    On a 1400 mile road trip last month, I had the Igloo BMX 25 on the back seat of our Subaru Outback (no way the Engel MT45 fits back there realistically). Being that we weren't camping we didn't need a big cooler and a big one would just take up all our room anyhow. What I learned on this trip is that with an ice cooler, you need to fill up the void air space with ice better than I did on this trip. I just put a 5lb block of ice to start with and didn't fill it with ice from the hotel the next day. Our potato salad went bad (well it was kind of fizzy tasting). The problem with ice is that it takes up a lot of room, adds weight, and has a shelf life.
    When I got home, I decided I need another iceless cooler for the back seat of the Subaru. The Engel MT45 is fine for the truck when camping. Like someone mentioned those compressor fridges are expensive, like the Engel, Arb, Dometic and others.........so I elected to go with a $429 TruckFridge TB31A (Indel B). Weight is around 31 pounds, so a lot better than the 55lb of my Engel. And capacity is slightly more than the 25 quart Igloo BMX and definitely more room when not having to add ice. Point is not having to deal with ice or not having to deal with a dead battery over the night if leaving in a hotel parking lot. And knowing that the temperature will be stable in the 30's. Drawback is the weight and the price. Compressor fridges may not be in everyone's price range.
    I still have a number of ice coolers including a couple of roto-moulded (I'm kind of cooler nut). And they have their purpose. But I have to say, I like the iceless coolers. The Chinese have gotten into the mix and there is a compressor fridge on Amazon called an Ausranvik 26 qt for $279 that has decent reviews and has perked up some interest.

      Thermoelectric has advantages over a regular refridgerator, such as portability, less weight, less moving parts. But a big disadvantage is less efficiency. Water cooling is the best way to increase efficiency

    Place some frozen blocks etc at the beginning and it’ll drop temp faster. 👍🏻

      Yes, that will definitely speed up the process, but we wanted to see from start to finish, so that we can compare with other thermoelectric.

    No reviews so far say how long it maintains that temp after being unplugged or measures the actual temp of a beverage once cooled in the cooler. Frustrating

  • @ebbiketrip2497
    @ebbiketrip2497 4 роки тому +7

    So you chilled it indoors and then brought it outside unplugged. Saying it is holding below the ambient temp is misleading. Plug it in an let it run in the 91 degree sun for a few hours. I think you will be sadly surprised by the result.

    Well after listening to all that and you repeating yourself several times all I wanna know is how long does it stay cool after you unplug it and it takes about what to three hours to charge it and then the car AC Hass to be on to charge it so it can’t be charge if your car is not running and then now your car is not running anymore how long does it stay cool after?

    Take that cooler and throw it in the trash. Those themocoolers are not that efficient and plus they drain the hell out of your batteries. I went through 4 of those coolers. I'm a truck driver and some of these hot ass states I travel to make those coolers useless. Better off getting getting a budget Rubbermaid cooler

    • @CoolersOnSale
      @CoolersOnSale  5 років тому

      Even inside the cab of the truck with the AC running as you are driving? Or do you mean at points when the truck is off?

    • @miguelrobb5719
      @miguelrobb5719 5 років тому

      @@CoolersOnSale I had the Coleman version but it is still the same. I usually keep the ac running when I have the cooler plugged in, but eventually I will have to stop. If leave the cooler plugged in during my mandatory 10 hour break, my batteries will be low when the break is over. I don't always want to idle my truck, because the truck is mines and I don't want to waste fuel. Not to mention the possible breakdowns. Sometimes my truck will be in the shop for a couple days, and I have to freak out because I know my food won't be doing so well since the truck is off and the cooler is plugged out.
      I once got stuck in Detroit because the cooler killed my battery. I got so fed up with the cooler that I tossed it out the window along with whatever the hell was still inside of the cooler, and stopped at Wal-Mart and picked up the 28qt when lifetime from a nearby walmart, after I got jumpstarted. Truckers hate those themo coolers
