I figured your Hen Gear nest box upgrade was the roost bar release! I have been thinking about making that upgrade since my chickens started laying last summer. I went with Hen Gear rollaway nest box from the get-go after doing some research and have been happy with that choice. My biggest issue with the nest box is my own fault; we have been too lazy to pull up the roost bar in the evening and now we have a few broodies (one at a time) who like to take over the nest box and cause problems. So I guess we will.be changing our ways! And I will strongly consider some more about getting the roost bar release. My only problem with that is that our chickshaw is usually enough in the woods that the solar panel may not get much sun. It sounds like you are making some good, efficient changes to your setup. I think that is one of the most fun parts for me - troubleshooting and finding ways to be more efficient with our operation.😊
Thanks for your video. I maintain a chicken coop at my house and at my brothers and now we’re gonna go up to Tennessee to my son‘s new property and I’ve been looking at these rollout and I’m gonna go ahead and do it will only be up there 78 months of the year, so this will make life easy on my grandkids to get the eggs and if I’d like it there I’m gonna install them in the two coops. I have down here in Florida.
I always love upgrades, new stuff. It can be anything. I just love new. I am a sucker for that sign that says new and inproved. Or new features. New version. Etc.
That’s a pretty cool idea we are building a new egg Mobile and I would love to have some of these boxes but for like 200 birds it’s really expensive I might start with a few great video.
Thank you for your review. Been looking at upgrading by boxes. My hens love to pick and eat their eggs. Quick question with your ""Free Range"" program, Do you not have to worry about hawks?
My older hens that started with diy plywood nest boxes despise the hen gear boxes. The younger ones that have only had them don’t mind at all.

At my job I’ve worked all 3 different shifts. The overnight at that hour between 4 and 6 am is tough.

Is this coop used 365 days per year, or only for good weather months?
Pretty soon these are gonna have a little motor to drive it to the new location. Lol.
