This is the best tutorial imo on scratching using the fader. I'm at work, so I don't have a turntable infront of me. I'm literally practicing the movements, so when I go home, I'll have the technique drilled in my head.

You sir are very good at instructions and breaking down each individual step in what your lesson is. You should go back a few steps and do lessons in song structure, counting, BEAT MATCHING, to go in to the steps of scratching!!! Your gift of breaking down step slowly and up close is GREAT

I won’t Lie, most people don’t want to pay for a Scratching DJ/Mixologist, so as a Mobile DJ, I would just blend beats and call it a Night. But the Other Side of me just wants to be able to do it whenever I feel like doing it.

Great content, I'm an intermediate Dj and recently purchased the Pioneer DDJ REV 7. Coming from an American audio Encore 2000. That's dope I still yet to learn how to control my movements with both my hands to have them in sync like that. It seems when I try to churp scratch I loose the movement of my fader hand. Great demo I definitely am gonna try it the way you showed it. Thamks

Great stuff bro. I’m elevating my scratch game and this tutorial helps a lot. I am using the full Rane setup. I love to use different scratches as transitions and also to enhance the listening pleasure of the audience.
Nice vid. A big key to scratching is small fader movements. The less you travel on the fader, the quicker and cleaner the cut will sound. Also, using short sounds makes the cut sharper/ cleaner.
Exactly! I remember tried to “envision” it moving as I attempted to learn to scratch with a controller but it never clicked like it did with a moving platter. But now going back to controllers, it’s a piece of cake. Those who learn on controllers always impress me!
Hey. When I record, I only listen through my headphones. So my headphones are directly connected to the mixer, and I record my screen and audio via Quicktime Player!
How are these turntables working?? The platter actually spins around like the Tech 12's? Does it feel heavy like the Tech 12 motors? Does it take a bit of physical pressure to stop the spinning with your hand, like the Tech 12's? If you put your hand on the "record" to stop it... the platter is actually still spinning UNDER the "record"?? Sooo... RANE just looks at the "records" spinning speed to change the speed of the song? Would the "record" stop moving if you only stopped the platter by holding the edge? I can't believe these have been out for two years! I completely missed this until TODAY! I started on Tech 12's. I still use tech 12's. I've bought a small cheap mobile CDJ thing.. it's ok but I can't deal with tiny platters that don't move! And the Pioneer CDJ prices are insane. THEEEEESE however.... hmmmmm!!!
I just recently biut the pioneer s11 and the rane 12s mk2 but been having some syc issues i connected the ranes to using USB to the mixer i plugged them in where it says cdjs USB input

Bet. If you click the settings icon in the top right of serato. You can set your curve up. I’m not near a computer so I can’t give you a step by step but someone has definitely showed how to do so online. I would search “how to set up curve on serato software”

Just dropped a 2 click flare tutorial. Didn’t necessarily show how to do it very quickly in double time, but it is essentially just practicing until you’re able to move your hand on the cross fader and place fast enough and in sync. Definitely challenging.
I really want to learn scratching cause I have a buddy of mine he is 16 yrs old and he's a beast, but I dont have hours and hours of free time to practice. My question is do you have to have some kind of gift to become good at scratching or will you actually get better with practice? its really discouraging when you are 45 yrs old and you got a dj buddy thats is 16 and sounds like Scratch Bastid🙄🤦♂️. I hear your pain man, I REALLY do. But I can say with all honesty that I particular started getting good at scratching VERY gradually. It happened so gradually that it was almost as if I got it overnight. Very weird. But I don’t believe you have to have a gift. I think some learn faster than others, but if you put in at least 30min every single day - and you’re practicing the right way. I promise you’ll get it over time.

please keep making videos of when you scratch but show the camera at an angle where we can see the pattern on the track, like in your previous video of transitions with reverb.
If you set up the crossfader with the curve all the way to the right, the volume will be the same (at max volume) no matter where the crossfader is (unless it’s all the way over in which case one deck is muted)

what if the hand motions are done in reverse/opposite when cutting instead of forward then cross fader closed?
That would be hamster style scratching that I believe you’re referring to - the motions are similar, just in reverse.

Do you have a video showing how you can do the 2 click flair orbit double time. So difficult to do
Just dropped a 2 click flare tutorial. Didn’t necessarily show how to do it very quickly in double time, but it is essentially just practicing until you’re able to move your hand on the cross fader and place fast enough and in sync.
Definitely challenging.

I really want to learn scratching cause I have a buddy of mine he is 16 yrs old and he's a beast, but I dont have hours and hours of free time to practice. My question is do you have to have some kind of gift to become good at scratching or will you actually get better with practice? its really discouraging when you are 45 yrs old and you got a dj buddy thats is 16 and sounds like Scratch Bastid🙄🤦♂️. Your video was great thank you.
I hear your pain man, I REALLY do. But I can say with all honesty that I particular started getting good at scratching VERY gradually. It happened so gradually that it was almost as if I got it overnight. Very weird.
But I don’t believe you have to have a gift. I think some learn faster than others, but if you put in at least 30min every single day - and you’re practicing the right way. I promise you’ll get it over time.

Definitely will do. This is one of my earlier videos where I hadn’t purchased equipment to have the overtop video footage. But I got ya covered 🙏🏾
If you move the crossfader completely to the right, would the scratch sound be louder instead if you just move it to the middle?
If you set up the crossfader with the curve all the way to the right, the volume will be the same (at max volume) no matter where the crossfader is (unless it’s all the way over in which case one deck is muted)
