They are getting round to fixing all the flaws with the ID3. It is exactly the form factor I would like to get. I was disappointed when saw the cheap interior at launch. It is starting to get there. Here in Malta the price will probably remain ridiculously high.
I think that is on purpose. Cupra is, I think, for younger people or who prefer a more agressive look. VW on the other hand more toned down/conservative.
My brother owns an ID.3 he got before Tesla started cutting prices. It's a pretty neat car. A lot of the so called software issues either are well in the past or were overblown to begin with. But today the value just isn't there. You have to severely dislike Tesla's form factors or the MG4 to contemplate one.
Why can they replace the rear axle, but they can't replace the buttons on the steering wheel? They even have a suitable steering wheel with physical buttons available, the one used on Skoda Enyaq.
I think VW has learnt a lot from the disappointment of the ID3 (to be fair they aren't bad just very medium). The efficiency improvements and slowly making interior changes that are needed. Still sad to see they aren't in place yet. I heard that the Cupra Born Vz will have regen paddles.
Gloss black as the door handle is really not a good idea. Other than that, I really like it. I personally like capacitive buttons. Anyway, I’d buy it for sure if they brought to the US.
I'm sure there's one or two more of you. After all, the guy that came up with the idea and the one that approved it are on that list. But the vast majority find them insufferable.
I think the main problem that remains with this car is the price. Its estimated price in Germany is just over €50k which is outrageous for a car this size. The user interface is mostly an annoyance, but it doesn't help in the context of price. If it dropped to €40k, that would still be high but getting there. The larger battery and the more efficient electric motor brought WLTP estimate to 600 km, which is excellent for a car of this size (400-450 km is common for the segment as of now) and the main way this car stands out, as of currently. The strengthened rear axle is the single most important update in my opinion due to the bike rack + 5 seats and it massively improves the value proposition and prospective customer base. I think it's nearly inevitable though that the whole ID.3 range, including this trim, will get significant price cuts in the future beyond existing rebates. The Kia EV3 has the same range, more practicality, better UX and ability to tow while also going to be much cheaper, which will significantly limit the competitiveness of this car.
Amazing vídeo, Thomas. :-) A little more time and I really believe that the R version's turn will also come. Being electric, who knows and it will be called 'Re'... :-)
I really don’t like that they place your towbar at the buttom of the trunk. They should make space available for it in the frunk. You’ll always need that stuff when the trunk is full.
@@krane15 totally irrelevant but I ment the towbar to be towed. However, yes the bikerack mounting pin should also be there. Ps: I bet the bikerack mounting pin has the exact same productnumber as an actual towbar.
This should be the standard trim exterior. Just like an iPhone or Tesla they have all versions which have a similar exterior. By creating a lower trim version which looks cheaper you damage the brand and the entire range.
The Harman Kardon sound systems currently installed in VW vehicles either need significant improvement or should be replaced entirely. Personally, I find them lacking. Reintroducing the Fender or Dynaudio systems would be a welcomed improvement, as both were superior options.
This should have been the original base line launch model. Glad VW is listening to the customers and improve software, bring back more physical buttons and so on. Sometime I wonder why I shoud buy the ID3 GTX PERFORMANCE at €50k when there will be the ID2 GTI (which I like a lot less looks like a Polo) with similar performance but at around €35k?!! What do you think??
Great review. VW have so nearly got this right. From the outside it looks wonderful. The interior works at a practical level for space and seating. It is a shame VW have not yet completed their transition back to a good UI/UX and I wish they do away with the iPad on the dashboard and do something more integrated with the dashboard as say BMW does. The car should go well. This is the size and style of car I like, but I will have to wait for the next generation or maybe just facelift inside. VW really do need to watch out for the various Geely sub brands in this sector.
They are for sure proud about the entire car not the stubid discussion about, who ist the fastest. VW holds the record for electric and all Cars including ICEs to pikes Peak and could add more Power if they are really planning it. This acceleration is similiar to entry 911s some years ago, which tells how idiotic this discussion is.
@@josefv-y8mWell that's the issue with this ID3. Even as a whole package it is not something extraordinary. Especially in the EV segment when you consider the pricing of the ID3. I'm really afraid that prices for these sporty versions will be ridiculous. (and the sales figures already showed that it is not so successful model so far) Therefore I would expect at leaast something more special from this performance oriented variant if it can't compete on the other fronts. However I do agree with you about this ridiculousness of the acceleration numbers and I totally dig vehicles such as Toyota GR86. I even own the vehicle from VW group, so I watch them closely. However I do have an impression that they are really struggling with their EV lineup identity and on some fronts they are years behind (such as laggy infotainment and terrible UX). Hopefully they will catch up soon, so they don't became obsolete in the next decade.
Good update from VW, they are nearly back (just change the controls on the steering wheel and for the rear windows, stop using this shiny black materials, make a trunk and let some physical controls for volume and heat come back).
Did you mean to say a frunk? If so, why? I'm trying to understand why it's so important for people to have a frunk. Isn't it just a bit annoying having to split your luggage between two places?
You mentioned that you will perform a testdrive when the car will be available. Now is available.... are you planning to make a testdrive...? I am interesting in buying the car and would really love to see your testdrive first...!!
Just make it lighter (forget the heavy panoramic roof) or the Cupra Born kicks its arse as quality and the Tesla 3 2024 in all aspects but the lack of HUD.
It takes some parts from the Cupra Born, seats and bonnet etc. I thought the larger battery packs removed the 5th seat due to weight limit of the chassis and this was for he pano roof as well ? Good to hear haptic buttons will be removed. Will the newer battery pack fit the older cars or can it be fitted to the older 58 kwh cars ?
The buttons för volume and ’next song/next radiochannel ; they are completly wrong ! It should be ; Higher volume = Up. Lower volume = Down. Next song/Channel = Right. Previous song/channel = Left. Isn’t that obvious for every driver …? 🤷🏻♂️. What do you think ?

Sometime I wonder why I shoud buy the ID3 GTX PERFORMANCE at €50k when there will be the ID2 GTI (which I like a lot less looks like a Polo) with similar performance but at around €35k?!!
What do you think??
hello,Thomas,Can the VIN of this red GTX be provided, thank you
Looks good.
its like the honda jazz had a baby with the golf
ewww
That is surprisingly accurate 😂
Hi Tomas/Leah,
When are you planning to test drive the ID3 GTX, and post your review?
Great review.
VW have so nearly got this right. From the outside it looks wonderful. The interior works at a practical level for space and seating. It is a shame VW have not yet completed their transition back to a good UI/UX and I wish they do away with the iPad on the dashboard and do something more integrated with the dashboard as say BMW does. The car should go well. This is the size and style of car I like, but I will have to wait for the next generation or maybe just facelift inside. VW really do need to watch out for the various Geely sub brands in this sector.
tbh 0-100 in 5.6 for top of the range performance version is not something to be proud of in 2024 EV
(and the sales figures already showed that it is not so successful model so far)
Therefore I would expect at leaast something more special from this performance oriented variant if it can't compete on the other fronts.
Why not sell it in Canada?
Love this id3 GTX
Just cannot wait for the future when cars will have actual physical buttons! Hope they are released in my time! 😁
I would have liked to replace my e-Golf with an ID.3, but VW had little to over, so now it'll be a Volvo EX30
The Volvo is much smaller with no drivers screen or buttons. That’s a no for me.
Nice car
Did I see, there were no air-conditioning vents for the rear passengers?
Good update from VW, they are nearly back (just change the controls on the steering wheel and for the rear windows, stop using this shiny black materials, make a trunk and let some physical controls for volume and heat come back).
Did you mean to say a frunk? If so, why? I'm trying to understand why it's so important for people to have a frunk. Isn't it just a bit annoying having to split your luggage between two places?
@@Koff33y seems not to be hard to create a space in front of the car where you can leave your cables. Other manufacturers can do this, so why not ?
@@peterpoppe4855 Oh, I didn't think of the cables. That's a good point! I would love to be able to store my cables somewhere else than in the trunk.
Now if it could tow like 1000kg, then I'd upgrade my current id3 with this one
You can pick these up for sub £15K in the UK, if you want a cheap VW EV why bother with a new one for 2-3 x the price?
probably even cheaper soon, I read that VW will not build the id3 in a new factory cause of low demand.
Lolz it isn’t even being delivered yet!
you mean : the pro S will also get the 79kWh battery soon ?
You mentioned that you will perform a testdrive when the car will be available.
Now is available.... are you planning to make a testdrive...?
I am interesting in buying the car and would really love to see your testdrive first...!!
thanks! We can try to organise it!
@@autogefuehl it would be great. Why VW don't push for that? It seems that they don't trust in this car?
Just make it lighter (forget the heavy panoramic roof) or the Cupra Born kicks its arse as quality and the Tesla 3 2024 in all aspects but the lack of HUD.
It takes some parts from the Cupra Born, seats and bonnet etc. I thought the larger battery packs removed the 5th seat due to weight limit of the chassis and this was for he pano roof as well ? Good to hear haptic buttons will be removed. Will the newer battery pack fit the older cars or can it be fitted to the older 58 kwh cars ?
yes as I said, they worked on the rear axle, re-check the first couple of minutes of the video about the details
no retrofitting
@@autogefuehl Oh OK so is the battery completely different ?
Not completely but they wont exchange it
Is the performance version also RWD?
Wonder why they don't have the gtx badge on the front like GTi usually has
I frankly love VW's subtle use of badging. Mercedes slather it name/logo on ever surface. U.S. manufacturer like Cadillac is even worse
If VW would fit it with a real towing hook for trailer and a proper arm rest in the front and I’ll be trading in my Tesla
The standard car should have that face but mesh body color'd and same daylight running lights cause it looks frumpy.
The phone holder is totally the opposite direction than it should be.
The styling on these vehicles is abysmal. All they had/have to do is build an electric MK7 Golf.
That already exists...e-Golf
They will in Future...Golf 9 will be pure electric only.
