Thanks for sharing this! I saw the original episode and have been looking to find the song, I'd guess, for 20 + years now. It popped into my head this morning and i decided to search once more. What a find! Thanks again
I remember this episode. I had recorded it on my VCR (remember those?) I played this scene over and over and over again. Great song and great performance by Bernadette Peters. Haven't seen it in a very long time. Glad to have found it here.
This is the first time I've ever heard or seen this song performed by anyone. So very glad that it was by one of my very favorite entertainers... Bernadette Peters! Her very little baby doll voice has always made me love this very sweet feminine voice. My very favorite of all is from the Broadway album "Mack & Mabel." Her beautiful torch song is "Time heals everything". She truly owns this song. Also wonderful was "raining in my heart" from her first Broadway show "Dames at sea". OH there are so many others.🙄😳🤔🤗🥰❤️
omg, i can't believe you posted this. I was so obsessed with this song The Next Dream that I dream that i put the tape recorder to the TV to have a copy of it. amazing!
This is the only recording. This was before I knew B. Peters as a full Broadway star. My guess Carol had to stop acting and give Bernadette her respectful response on camera or not.
Bernadette's singing (as always) is great, but I have to laugh that her character has never seen this song before but then she sings it (often without even looking at the words) like it's been in her repertoire for twenty years.
Two great ladies of the stage. Bernadette Peters is now on Broadway, again, in "Hello, Dolly!" She just celebrated her 70th birthday and is beautiful as ever.
This is my favorite song by Bernadette Peters. I don't know why she never recorded it for an album track. Absolutely beautiful.
Woah is she actually playing the piano? Also you know its quarantine when you're watching random videos of Bernadette :)
Who really wrote this song? Where did it originate from...a play? And btw what tv show is this from?
Even Carol is in awe at how beautiful Bernadette can sing
Why wouldn't she be. Burnett could sing, but was never ever considered a talented singer herself.
How can this tiny little lady sing so powerfully ... not to mention, so beautifully also ...
LOVE Bernadette Peters :D
Bernadette will always be adorable and Carol is a comic genius
You said it all
she is just incredible
I've been searching for this for so many years and I can't believe I just saw this again.
There is nothing on tv today than can touch this , what a shame. Bernadette , damn what a voice!!

When you hear her speak you would never guess that her voice is the same person when she sings. Absolutely beautiful

If you can sight sing then you can do that. I could. It's less difficult than you think. its a skill that is learned.
I LOVE BERNADETTE....SHES AN AMAZING TALENT....SINGER,ACTRESS....JUST A GREAT HUMAN BEING.
is there an original version of this song somewhere? is there more words to the song or is it written this short specifically for this sketch?
I saw this episode when it originally aired, and for the past few years I've been looking for it. Thanks so much for posting the scene!
