been bouncing on that very search myself, I learned most won`t teach scales they are afraid of the student getting stuck there, I am in the mind of scales are tools that teach so much GOOD stuff coordination, notes in time speed. So many I have seen here (youtube) want to crowd scales with the music making, when the student is 55+ and has to piece it together not wanting to be a Clapton, Page, Hendrix Tina S, Lauren or Marty from picking the instrument up some of us want to learn technique? over Soloing first starts. I got no clue if it make sense to anyone. I stepped away 6-8 months ago I was not learning at others speeds, I was struggling of course folks passing judgement have been playing 8+ years or more I was just in my beginner rubbish. Ya Know I picked it back up I will stay in my rubbish lane until I am confident to move on, if that means Pentatonic lane until I develop my coordination and finger skills so be it. With friends so judgmental I can stay at home/work and pick there happier I am learning than being judged.

I just broke through... thank you... I have been so frustrated on my guitar that I just needed to see a way slowed down and well explained video to get what I need to take guitar from rhythm to lead and back again. You really did a great teach Lauren. I owe you. I subbed and liked.
Just started learning pentatonics and was totally lost about how to practice and experiment until I found your video. It was a great help - clear and concise!
60 years old and 6 months into learning guitar. I watched this video about two weeks ago and have practiced playing parts of the scale up and down like you show. This evening it just clicked. Still a lot of practice to do, but it sounds like music. This is a great approach. Thanks!
Lol I've been practicing this scale for 3 years now, and I've mastered it for sure but I've spent much to much time on this scale instead of merging and learning others.
I've been a student of yours for 18 months -2 years now and without doubt you are the best of the best guitar teacher . Simple break down in a no nonsense but fun way.
Just ran across your videos. Been a player for years , all by ear! Tried lessons with no real luck. You are the first to mention working within the scale not just playing the full scale over and over…. Great teacher, excellent at what you do! Thank you for the “light bulb” moment!
thank you. I'm a mom and my 16 year old took up guitar 3 months ago convinced me to try too. I'm lost. so thank you I've watched 1000 videos. yours finally clicked. THANK YOU
AS a perpetual beginner; seriously, I took some lessons 26 years ago and life got in the way. Now at 77 I'm retired and continuing my beginning LOL. So I started out as an "older player" so I'm not sure what catagory I'm in now. But your videos are very helpful. Thanks!
Lauren, hi i am you fan from east africa, Ethiopia and i would like to tell you that you are an amazing instructor, these days i am getting improving via your lessons. God bless you and keep shining!❤❤🌻🌻
Lauren. Your discussion on relative major/minor scales. Not this video but within your Lead guitar skills 101 series, lesson Am pentatonic starting about 2:30 in…. So incredibly important. Trying to fit things together. Certainly opened my eyes how this stuff all fits together. Thanks for the excellent simple presentation. Highly recommended for those trying to understand “why study and learn scales”.
Lauren, You are a Beautiful Teacher and I admire your skills on the Guitar, you make it simple, I wish you can slow dowm on the Pentatonic lessons. You are going so fast. I am just a beginner, please show me the step by step, I am a slow learner plus at my age my brain just dont pick us as fast when I was younger.. Much Love from: Fred..💖💖🌹🎸🎶....
Very excellant , teaching of Am pentatonic scale ! I really felt relaxed after watching this video because i never knew that one can teach pentatonic scales in this much easier and encouraging way ! Truly great teacher !
I finally got it!!! Thank you so much. You unlocked my fingers on the fretboard with this lesson. I am slow but my fingers land at the right place and I am getting better every day and I can now follow the A chord backing track on UA-cam. What an accomplishment.
Great methodical and understandable explanation. I'm ashamed to say that after 40 years of plating guitar I've never even attempted scales or anything remotely resembling lead. This is a great way to start. Thanks Lauren.

This was ridiculously helpful! I was on the cusp of getting this and your vid and the backing track you suggested really helped my progress...thanks a bunch!
Thanks for explaining this to us!!! I’m an intermediate level acoustic rhythm player and recently new to the electric guitar so I will start trying to learn this. Thanks for your help and Happy New Year!!!
I'm very slow memorizing scales. I got the E and the position you're teaching here. But I still don't know how to get licks out of them to insert in my blues...but I see better how it can be done, the way you teach is pretty clear. Thanks Lauren 🎶🎶🎶
HI, Lauren Thank you very much for this short and effektiv video. I already learned the scales before, but not so effektiv explained. I'm now waiting for your promised next video about lining up the scales. And - I would like to see a video, how to find out which improvisation is the right one for a song. Thank you. Greeting from Munich, Germany
Thanks Lauren, for this instructional video! This is the first time that pentatonic scales have actually made sense to me. Looking forward to practicing this today. Best regards ___Jack
Thanks. I've been playing pentatonic scales and to be honest just playing them up and down may be good for initial learning but it becomes rather mundane and it's easy to go through the motions. Concentrating on just two or three strings at a time will add some variety and creativiy.
Nice clip. I understand there are 5 types of pentatonic scales. You should do a video on how these 5 scales are intertwined to make sense. How are they used.
Another great lesson. More of a refresher for me but it's good to go back over things. Side note: please record a new version of your Wagon Wheel lesson. The sound is very low on that video and I'm trying to learn that song. Thanks.
Thank you Lauren!! I have spent years trying to figure this out!!! I am soooo enjoying my new subscription!! You are a teacher that I finally understand!!
@@LaurenBateman I am self taught also Lauren..I refused to ask for help!!!. Studied theory..I should have found you years ago....thank you for being my FIRST music instructor!!
great video...i can do the scale but...for some reason i cant stop my pinky from doing the 5/7...i try to only use it for the 5/8 but my pinky automatically wants to do everything 🤔🤔🤔
Great teaching .I took my buddies guitar and stuck small stick on paper circles on the whole fretboard ,with green stick.ons as the root notes.I stuck them.on from the 3rd fret G pentatonic .Down to the 15th fret G. Shame i cant post a pic.
It's OK Jerry. It's kind of a bit of theory. Scales are notes that sound good together. Scales are used in playing solos. Sometimes you have to watch a video 2-3 times for the info to set in. Search Lauren Bateman what is a scale. I have a good video just on that subject alone.
Hi Lauren. Nice tutorial.I am new at practicing scales. I hope you also make a tutorial on proper thumb position and when should I angle my fingers vs classic hand position when doing scales like this.
Thanks, I love the advice to play around with just a couple of strings. Works really well. But, so, have I got this right: this scale is also in C major and the reason for that is that the notes that make up A minor and C major are in both scales? I learned all the pentatonic shapes and their positions for playing in C recently and then, jamming, found that it seemed to work fine when everyone was playing in A minor.
Thank you for making it easy! One question i have is what notes are these that are being played? I understand we have A C D E G and back to A again. 5 would be A so does that mean the 7 and 8 are just going up and down the scale? Or am I just over thinking this 😅😅
Ahh, I don’t. It’s harder to do on acoustic than electric. Essentially a whole note bend is trying to bend a string so it sounds 2 notes or two frets higher.

Hi Lauren! Thanks for the video. Wondering if you have a video on string bending for acoustic guitars. I didn’t know you do that. Sounded nice!
Ahh, I don’t. It’s harder to do on acoustic than electric. Essentially a whole note bend is trying to bend a string so it sounds 2 notes or two frets higher.
Thanks for your labor and sweet heart
