Just started guitar 2 weeks ago. Have always wanted to play but never had the time. I have looked at a lot of beginning guitar lessons online and your method is wonderful. It just clicks with me. Thank you!
Your teaching is not only interesting but it also gives us lot of encouragement and positive vibes ! Thanks a lot for being such a nice understanding teacher !
I’m 64 years of age and I am self taught through books. I write songs based on my capabilities only as I have no finger dexterity. I know very little theory but I manage to produce Masterpieces once I record them in the studio. Your lessons have ameliorated my Songwriting skills thus composing the best sounds ever thanks to you. Many Blessings🙏
I got in touch with music instruments when l was younger because of my brother who use too playing me guitar to get me to sleep.years later l came to know couple of fingers riffs that l play with french song melody but l didn't know to read notes or writings solfège.growing up l bought guitars and still didn't learn more just picking up once in while.and suddenly out of nowhere that l am much older we feel little younger retired and hearing some nostalgia from 60 70.came back l bought an other guitar and books again and l pay more attention than l used to be.and watching videos l think I m exactly doing what you're showing in this video and am glad to find some experienced person to get some lessons from. l 'll keep watching thank you a lot teacher .
There is no way! 13:00 just shot me ahead by like a week, the way she connects simply making the shapes to bringing them all the way off and making the chords again is amazing
This video I feel is going to get me out of the rut I've been regards to progressing. The finger pushups and emphasis on muscle memory is helping immensely in getting faster chord changes. I can tell the difference within two days practicing. Thank you Lauren!
What a wonderful tutorial for us beginners, Lauren. Clear, encouraging and instructive. Helps us to lay the strong foundation needed to build confidence and skills upon. Thank you! 🎶👏🏻✨
Lauren, this is excellent instruction. Particularly helpful for me is the emphasis you put on using a metronome to push myself outside my comfort zone and giving me “permission “ to have sloppy sounding chords while I’m working on speed exercises. Thank you for this really great channel.
The advice in this video is priceless and should be obligatory for all beginners! I started learning guitar in my mid 60s and did the spider exercises and 1 minute chord changes but would have much preferred the 3 finger spiders as I found it a huge stretch to get my pinky down hard enough to play a clear note, hence it took ages to work up to the top fret! Will be trying the 3 finger spider tomorrow though as older joints need good warm up exercises! Thanks for a great video, Bob.
Hey Lauren, I just found your channel today and binge watched quite a few of your lessons, very entertaining, fun and informative, great job, you earned my sub. I'm now 67 and just bought myself a guitar again, I tried learning many years ago but quickly gave up. Of all the lessons out there on youtube, I've found yours to be the channel I'm most comfortable with, looking forward to my journey with you.
Brilliant lesson. Excited to start these drills. Thousands of seizures have changed my playing ability extremely...some days are betta than othas. This will help so much! Thanks Lauren for your time! 😀
Thanks Lauren. I've been watching a lot of guitar videos lately, and just did one of yours. I give you credit for not being intimidating, and no weird distracting hair, jewelry or tattoos. Good lesson, too!
Thanks Lauren, I started with you a year ago and had no arthritis issues. I thought to myself how lucky I was. Well all that has changed for me now, it has mysteriously appeared in both hands now…all that to thanks for the refresher-using the metronome, finger push-ups and spider exercises.
Thank you Lauren this has been so helpful, been playing for some time but suddenly found I was not making any progress, now, you have refreshed my memory and you have helped me move on 🎸🎸
so ive gotten the guitar for abt a month, learned the 7 basic chords, wanted to start playing my favourite songs. manage to make a perfect sounding chord but when im trasitioning to a new chord its always too slow. Today is the first day of trying your exercises and i feel good. I really hope it works! Thanks
Bought my guitar a week ago. I pretty much been doing what you've said, before seeing your video. Starting practicing Em & Am. 4 of each in a row, to practice getting faster changes. Going to A wasn't always clean. So thank you, neeeded to hear that's ok. Yes, I'm one of the older learners, so I'll be doing the finger exercises.
I can't believe I reached 80 bps with most of the chords transitions (G, Em, D, C) 2 months after watching this video and joining your 7 level course. I keep on being grateful I have found your name and course on Google after so many other courses I joined with no success
Ughhh…after not playing for about ten years I’m really having an issue with the pivot system…I see where it’s totally the right way to do it for faster chord changes but I definitely have to reprogram my brain and fingers..this video is great! Thank you for sharing this method!
Hey ! I love these. I did lessons for a year and half and pretty much all we did was learn songs by tab. Life got in the way and became a dreaded dabbler... Great guy and I would go back but these basics are essential in building new neural pathways. Guitar can be for therapeutic for anything I believe. Thanks for a great lesson.
Great! you did it again! one more useful, enjoyable and helpful masterclass! With your help I´m moving forward faster than never before, little by little, step by step, slowly but surely...Thanks a lot, Lauren!
Lauren thank you so much. I’m improving well because of you wonderful teaching. As an older beginner 3 months ago, I’m really enjoying this learning process and watch your lessons every day, here in England. You make each lesson fun and encouraging for students. This particular lesson seemed so important to help improvement at this stage of learning. Absolutely the Best teacher, bless you Lauren.
This Thursday is THE day I officially make my purchase of THE full course from, IMHO....the best guitar teacher bar none! Just a bit worried my Yamaha F310 might not be good enough.
These are great lessons, Lauren! And thanks for pointing out the chords that are common in songs - will be really useful later on. Thanks for helping me progress!
Great video! This definitely something I need. Esp transitioning from open to bar chords. And and a side note major kudos for being a fellow Pixel folk and having the sweet 69 Camaro model in the background!
Best teacher for beginners on UA-cam, believe me, I have spent my life teaching and know a few things about how people learn. Keep it simple and do a little often, constant repetition is the key.
Good morning, Lauren, I really appreciate and enjoy your teaching methods, which are really easy to follow. I am a senior citizen and I am interested in joining the " Fellowship of Strings" but I am living on a fixed income. I would love to be part of it , but cannot do it until beginning of May
Started learning just 2 years ago and can play a few songs through but Dm to Am is the hardest change for me so these are the two chords I’m working on. 3 days of this and I can already able to change faster. I can’t wait to see how much I improve after a month! Plus the spider exercise is so fun that any free moment I have I’m goofing around with it! I had no warmup routine before, but see such value in this. Thank you, Lauren.
Absolute. Everyone should stretch before any activity. I found that I had to slow down to get faster. Then get faster until it gets twisted. Reapply as needed
I truly love love the way you teach I seen your video the other day day and feel in love with your teaching methods you have taught this old guy some knowledge that I didn't know , you have already have helped me immensely you are a truly a sweetheart thank you .GREST VIDEO GREAT TEACHING.
I found that I can also use the pivot point (2nd) finger to make the A major, just move the 1st finger to the G string and drop the 3rd finger on the B. all three in the 2nd fret. You can make the E minor, C , G and A during chord change practice.
@@LaurenBateman - I found your music on Apple Music. Wow! You’re incredibly talented. (The fact you’re from Boston as well makes me a little biased. 😜)
Think I mentioned this before when you spoke about the Em chord in another video. I play it 2nd and 3rd but I can see your point in playing 1st and 2nd as you can move to the G chord easier, as you demonstrated. Even though I play Em with 2nd and 3rd fingers, I can also play with 1st and 2nd fingers so I've been trying it out. At the moment I'm not playing a full G only a G6 two finger chord when I move from Em to G. However I still feel like I'm getting somewhere (slowly I have to admit) and it's definitely down to you not pushing to do a full G or C or any other difficult chords.
Very good exercise Lauren. Good is also the search for "Guide Notes". These are Notes on the same string but different fret. For example for a change of the chords E to D, you just slide with your index finger from the first fret to first to the third fret without lifting the index finger . The other fingers will then follow to form a D chord. Cheers Stephan
I'm kind of addicted to watching these kind of videos. Even if I'm comfortable with the task it's good to hear another perspective. Do you have any ideas to reduce string noise as you are moving up and down the braided strings?
