In this Outer Worlds video, we look at the Secrets & Lore of the Iconoclasts.
The Outer Worlds is a first-person action role-playing game set in a world where megacorporations have started colonizing and terraforming planets far from Earth. The game takes place in the Halcyon system, where the player awakes from cryosleep, soon discovering that most of the passengers on their ship are still in hibernation. With a strong focus on roleplaying, the player is able to make choices that cause the plot to change as they progress through the game. The Outer Worlds features well-written dialogue and lore, with the various factions, planets, characters and their interactions bringing the world to life. The Outer Worlds is developed by Obsidian Entertainment and published by Take-Two Interactive's publishing label: Private Division.

Yes I'd like more Outer Worlds Lore, a whole new universe available to us.

Also the only lack of the game, was short in the story and less depth. But actually it was good. If you want really to found something with no lore or sence... Go play at fallout 76. Maybe outer worlds, wasn't as good as fallout New vegas was.

One mistake, you say that Graham is the founder of the Philosophist belief system, but this is not true. M. Bokanu wrote about Philosophism over a century before it was "corrupted" by Graham.

1:57 This is not correct actually. The iconoclasts kinda ARE anarchists, but in the classical sense of the term. Classical anarchism, also known as left anarchism, isn't necessarily about abolishing government, as much as it's about abolishing all unjust hierarchies, including race, class, and governmental positions. They do typically support self governance through direct democracy or something similar (not representative), though they're skeptical of other forms of governance. They're kinda like communists in the goals they have, but they don't trust the communist idea of a "transitory state" to get them to a stateless, classless, moneyless society, and not just degenerate into a dictatorship, so they instead take a more direct approach and just try to do it.

@Diego Marra They're etymylogically extremely similar to the point where the distinction is almost non-existant, and historically, anarchy and anarchism have been used interchangably. Like for example, "Mother Anarchy loves her sons" was a famous wartime song written by Nestor Makhno, the anarcho-communist founder of the black army during the Russian Civil War.
Honestly though, on an unrelated note, the explanation that I gave above 5 months ago had other issues. Like, what I described only describes anarcho-communists, but not mutualists or egoists, or the other sects. And besides that, anarcho-communism is still some form of communist. The distinction is mostly between ancoms and other forms of communist. Just a result of getting better educated with time, I guess.
I'd love to hear speculation on what happened to earth.

I want to watch these Outer Worlds videos, but I haven't beaten the game yet. I'll like the video and click on the ads to help though.
Some topics I'd love to see off the top of my head:
* careful analysis and speculation regarding all bits of lore about wtf happened to Earth. Off the top of my head there are terminal entries on Groundbreaker from a stranded spacer noting how difficult it is to find any ships heading to the inner systems these days, the tech on the Groundbreaker who asks you to reactivate a relay station being surprised that the only messages from Earth in the buffer are all encrypted, and of course, the big reveal at the end of the game that Earth has gone silent and the ship sent to investigate the situation never returned. Obviously something bad (or at least dramatic and significant) went or is going down in and around Earth, but what might it be?
* a summary of the backstory of Halcyon before your character awakens - as much as is known about the timeline of the colonization of various planets and moons in the system, the timeline of the Hope's scheduled and actual arrival in the system, the emergence of the Board-dominated political and economic structure of the system, etc.
* a review of the native fauna of Halcyon and all associated lore.
* similar summaries of other factions (obviously)

I was pursuing what seemed a way to get MSI and Iconoclasts to work together but, ZORA told me to get lost because I failed a mission to save HER expeditionary force. I gave the crashed ship weapon to Zandar and wasn't even a little bit hesitant. Killed them all in the end. F them. :P What a great game.

I really like the Iconoclasts and their philosophy, though I do wish Graham was threaded a bit more subtly at the beginning of their questline; right off the bat his disregard for his followers' basic needs sowed suspicion and discouraged me from trusting him.
On a side note, is there any lore on what's become of the religions from before the timeline split (when TOW's timeline split from ours)? Considering we never hear anyone exclaim "oh my God" or something to that effect, and the fact that most people seem to be of the Scientism persuasion or are at the least disinterested in faith of any kind, I can only assume those old religions either died out, were outlawed or were snuffed out completely.
Scotttjt I think around Industrial Revolution, because in their world Extreme Capitalism are the practice. and the government can’t do anything about it.
And their expressions are “By the Law”, “What in Law’s name?!” I forgot the others.
I think the corporate entities in charge of societies use religion to make workers that might be otherwise not satisfied with how they are treated accept it blindly. It is sad, but often, leaders have done similar things historically. The other religions were probably banned a long time ago.
@@allenholloway5109 yeah it makes a lot of sense. After playing the outer worlds, i can see a lot of the citizens adopting this expression: "we will blindly follow anyone who will lead us, giving ourselves over to anything that gives us a sense of purpose."
@@GraceAlone614 I got the feeling the Groundbreaker was the ship that brought in blue collar laborers to build things while the Hope was where the vast majority of the technical personnel were supposed to come from. Thus the majority of the population are not given either by culture or genetic inclination towards more thoughtful pursuits. Not saying there can't be such but rather they had little reason to develop that way without cultivation...and the Board is so inept that they actually seem to do the opposite. Stomp down any free thought and inclination towards more intectual development. Thus making everyone either stupid or fearful of being more than a simple laborer.
@@jacobfreeman5444 yeah that's pretty much what I've gotten out of the story. It would make sense considering the groundbreaker is trying hard to get away from the board. But also if you talk to Juneli Tennyson, she says that her entire family pretty much owned the groundbreaker. So maybe it was a family that was promised riches by the board, then they realised the board sucks and now they're trying to get away from the board.
I def chose zora and the iconaclasts in my first playthrough.
This was the best game I have played since mass effect 1 or Witcher 3

Can u guys make a hero build? I’m thinkin a character that uses 2-handed melee weapons and protects Halcyon, he has no desire for working with companions, he’s a wandering traveler protecting those who can’t protect themselves.
Another build idea is a ninja, a stealthy, fast, 1-handed melee, build who is a anti-hero of sorts. He protects who he thinks is in the right, but will slaughter his enemies that threatens the people he protects, but he’s also a little greedy, he works for Sublight and maybe MSI. But that’s up to u guys.

Do the lore or background of the marauders. Been curious about what those are how you become one etc but cant find anything on them.
Apparently drug overdose from Adrena-time causes folks to become Marauders. You can hear it from the constable in Edgewater after asking her about if when you finish the bounty quests in the area. However, I think the real reason is *spoilers*
The nutrition deficiency the whole colony is suffering from now on top of the Adrena-time over usage.
Play the dlc peril on Gorgon for everything.
It isn't Zora who is blind to the loss of their people but Graham. Graham, in focusing on just the ideals, is not providing for necessities. Thus putting the burden on Zora. And because of their situation she has to do more and more desperate things to get those supplies. She hates having to spend lives but their people will either die or have to give up on the movement if they can't provide for themselves. Zora is practical. Feet very firmly planted on the ground. Graham is so set on a future greater good to redeem himself that he never really reaches it. He fails to understand his actions affect the present world, just how it could affect the future. Zora does, however, see herself as a commander. Likely because it was another role forced on her by Graham. So she had to grow into it and so became part of it. She is their commander. She acts the part. Graham is a spiritual leader. And not a very good one.

if you think about it, there actually probably is an equation that explains the entirety of existance and the universe, it would have to take into account the movement and composition of every atom and molecule, once it was all accounted for, you could explain and predict everythihng.... of course this equation would probably take many trillions of terabytes or more to put into data form... and yeah i doubt vicar max has the resources to buy that lol.
also, in the byzantine empire, there was an iconoclast schism with orthodox.... ironically some emperors were iconoclast if i recall correctly... so its not exactly the "fight the power" thing that they may think it is.... its background is actually pretty establishment.
But if you think about it this equation becomes pretty much irrelevant with concious beings since theyre in no way mathematicaly predictable.
Thats why i like philosophism more tbh since it sees them as a way of the universe figuring itself out.
If you think about it whe're the Universes conciousness.
Also as you see in the Game that this Plan of the OSI is pretty much part of the corporate sheme to enslave people.
@@TheySchlendrian no, conscious beings are the same, if you could look at the atoms and molecules in the brain, you would see that the person is only making the right choice for themselves based on how their atoms and molecules are made up... humans dont really have free will.

Brains arent exactly working mathematical so its pretty much a unknown variable.
@@TheySchlendrian you predict it by looking at all the molecules in the body, duh, you can tell that someone is going to move a certain way to remain in equilibrium, you could see an itch forming and know that the brain will respond to it, then you look at the molecules of the brain, and voila, you can predict how they are going to scratch their leg... if you think humans have free will then obviously this doesnt work for you mate.

What's been going on with Earth? I know the spoilery bits but I was wondering if there were terminals i may have missed that sheds more light on the blackout situation.
I binged the game and read every entry and completed every quest I could find. And I'm obsessed. I really loved it!!!! I can't wait for the dlc in the future that they've hinted at! Hopefully it'll be for the other halcyon world's we haven't visited by the end of the game!

I would love a lore vid about the story through the terminals of the Hope and the Dr. Welles' secret.
In my 'personal best' playthrough I would side with Zora in order to make peace with MSI in order to save the most amount of people for sure. Kill one to save the many (trolley problem). I haven't seen the end card for siding with Graham yet, but I would imagine many of his people would starve or would leave because of Graham's disbelief of needing to eat
my choice for a lore video would be one on Edge Water. It's not the best choice...

Felt like the only one who actually believed in Graham's spiel was Graham. Pretty sure everyone else was just in it for the ability to not live under the yolk of a corporation.
I’ve been wanting to see some character bios=)
I got both the msi and the iconoclast to work together. When I had to storm Tartarus I was very much surprised to see both of those Groups invading At the same time as my attack. It felt good to know that My actions had inspired others. Who decided without even me going to ask them to Help me. On their own to just go we need to go and help captain hawthorne. And it made that last part of the fight all the easier. As I had burned through most of my ammo and a good chunk of my healing devices during the first part. As I decided, I was taking no more prisoners and just decided to rush the entirety of the prison complex with no mercy given. By the time I was going up the elevator I saw those 2 groups appearing and helping me out. I breathed A sigh of relief. I had back up. My deeds had inspired others to rise up alongside me to take down the board. And nothing felt better than having both felix and parvati, As we took down Rockwell. At the end of it, I felt like the big goddamn hero. I saved the colony I brought them hope. And the stories of the captain hawthorne and that legendary craft the unreliable, It would go on to span the thousand stories of adventure. Sure I stayed around to look after the colony when it needed. But for the most part it didn't need me. Just a gentle hand here or a word there. And things just worked out on their own. But for me n my crew there's always going to be another adventure. Just waiting there out beyond the dawn of the next light. What it might be? I have no idea. But I know I'm gonna have a hell of a lot of fun Figuring it out. With my trusty shrink gun An armored kryo suit. With my trusty ship and ada And my crew at my side. There's no adventure The legendary captain Hawthorne Is not ready to face. So I shall Tell ada a simple mission. Set a course for earth. We will bounce from colony to colony. .Till we finally get back to humanity's home cradle. And I'll find out just why earth went silent. Just see if I don't. Otherwise my names not captain Hawthorne. captain of the unreliable! Time to solve the greatest mystery of all. what happened to earth. It's gonna be a long trip. No guarantee that We will even survive. But I got a feeling deep down inside of me. To work in the survive we're gonna find out what happened. And we might even have to save the earth. Now i'm not too sure about my crew. But I know What my choice would be. Set a course for earth ada. The slime is coming home! *Queue the theme song to red dwarf*
I loved this quest line i screwed my first build so after fallen order I'm going back in.
Update: I'm back in and I'm using the gunslinger build
I want Graham's free society to work out but i dont want them to starve. Which gives the happier ending??

I can't find an answer to this question Anywhere. And the question is about game size? I have done a few quests for the iconoclasts am I a out to end the game? People keep saying this game is about 13 hours. I am in it for 20 something now. Is each of the 6 or 7 planets a place I can visit of just a few and the rest are here for looks?
I'd say it's more 30-35 hours if you take your time. As for the planets, you can't visit them all yet as about half the system is locked off; you cant visit Tartarus until the end of the game, and the rest are inaccessible for the time being, presumably for future updates and dlc.
This is the best RPG shooter I’ve played in years. IMO blows all the Bethesda titles out of the water. Obsidian is 2/2 for these type of games and are far and away better than any of the Bethesda titles. I’ve never been so excited to replay a game before. And everytime I did a quest and thought what I did this instead I could do it. Instead of killing a certain scientist (trying not to post spoilers) you can go talk to her where she explains her experiments which changed my mind. This cost me a powerful ally for the end game battle as well as some extreme bits payout but in return I contributed to the end cards in a positive way for the further of halcyon. As well as instead of giving the targeting chip to the Iconoclasts or MCI I set up negotiations and assassinated Graham. This game is amazing I’ve not been this excited about this kind of title since New Vegas.
In my play though I sided with MSI but that’s only because I was doing a Board allied play through. Next time I’m probably gonna get Zora to truce with MSI just because I love Sanjar and refuse to kill him
Sanjar is a decent guy but he lacks a real backbone. I plan to ally him with Zora simply because Zora has the fire to help stiffen Sanjar's back.

I sided with Zora and formed an alliance between the Iconoclasts and MSI because it seemed the most reasonable thing to do, plus Grahm was delusional, I disliked him as soon as I meet him for the first time.
Plus the alliance turned out well
MSI wouldn't let me make an alliance, so the Iconclasts run things now
I sided with Zora and worked out an alliance with Zora and Sanjar in my first playthrough with the Sniper Build. My second playthrough I played as the Spartan and wiped them out, siding with the Board. Both were pretty fun, just the Spartan is a beast so it was pretty easy to roflstomp the Iconoclasts with him. They never stood a chance. Hahahaha!

No but they do give you a warning when you reach the point of no return, just like the original fallout 3
Hopefully the DLC adds that ability, like broken steel did in fo3.

Nah people saying fallout are being stupid, because outer worlds is set in the 2300s, they were still on earth in 2077, when the war in fallout started, it's a weak theory
What seems to happened to earth though is it's either been destroyed completely, or the people there are not in a state to contact the colonies. Thing is though, is that seems there isnt an earth government anyway, theres the earth directorate, which is just another corporation, so it was all pretty fucked up before they lost contact it would seem, just not the food issue

I know I'm late to this party but the world and people in this game make no sense.
It's set in an alternate universe where the corporate setting managed to colonize planets and these families are on second and third generation.
However, they try to use our own universe as the moral and philosophy base.
They treat the board like the Fallout vault company doing evil things but don't consider that the universe they made is too stupid to exist.
If the board had always been making poor decisions the colonies wouldn't have lasted as long as they have.
They paint them as incompetent but they colonized a whole solar system.
Edgewater is the first example. You want me to believe this town is full of 3 generations of indoctrinated workers and they are all bad at their jobs and hate the company?
No. That's not how indoctrination works. Parvati is a glaring contradiction.
I need a second game. Despite the game having "replay value" I can't replay it properly. Sure, you get a slightly different story line and different missions with different companions but the gameplay itself, like looting and that starts to feel.. pointless

Graham is in the right. I agree with his philosophy, and while his methodology is dangerous, it is necessary. Sometimes freedom is worth sacrifice, in whatever form that may take. The generations that follow will reap the benefits, and it's a form of selflessness that many people lack today.
I will also note that at this point in my playthroughI was also sick of every quest in this game having the "correct" solution being: Depose this dangerous/stupid/evil man and replace him with a woman.

Yeah I see that too. It's still a great game though since the story is really rich and the world is very unique in this game but I do see that pattern too.
It won't ruin the game for me since it is still amazing but it is a minor annoyance for me :V
