Deus Ex first, cyberpunk last. Hmm I’m sensing a potential pattern 😂. Nonetheless it’s how I would’ve structured my video essay. Thanks for the banger man you need more views
You're mistaken about Fallout. The war was very clearly stated to be about resources, and the world was already at war over what was left of the fossil fuels.

Elder Scrolls lore is by far my favorite western game lore. I been playing the games for a decade but only recently I found out how amazing and deep the lore of that series goes, because honestly the games do not do a good job at showing it to you. I love it so much that sometimes I spend hours and hours just reading the wiki, it feels like I am reading the bible with the amount of history that series has. For anyone interested, I highly recommend that when you play the games you actually read the books you find. You learn the lore way more from them than the games quests. Seriously, if Bethesda was smart they could have made so many movies or tv series using the extensive lore, and as long as it was written and produced well I am sure it could been really profitable for them. It's like having a gold mine that you rarely use. Dragon Age is another western game series with lore that I really enjoyed. For some reason it wasn't mentioned in this video but in my opinion it's even better than Mass Effect lore. Also not mentioned in this video is Baldur's Gate lore. Or the D&D lore in general, which countless RPGs use, so learning about it would take as long as learning the entire history of our real life world, but from the amount I learned with the games I played I would say its very worth the time. Btw, since Xenoblade is mentioned here, I am obligated to recommend Xenogears/Xenosaga, which was how the whole Xeno series started. Even though those original series have almost nothing to do with Xenoblade lore, I can confidently say that Xenogears had the best and deepest lore in japanese RPGs. It is well written sci-fi, mature, extremely depressing at times, heavily inspired by our real world religions and philosophies, all created by a man and his beloved wife. Anyone who enjoys a good story should play that game, and if you enjoy what you read in the game you can also go read the Perfect Works book, because yes, that game had enough lore to fill a book. Xenosaga was a prequel trilogy that also expands on the deep lore of Gears. And Xenoblade is pretty much just a whole new series that only borrows some of the original Xeno lore, but funny enough at the end of the third game they make very clear references to Xenosaga lore, so maybe the next game they make will really go back to it's roots.

It's me, the nerd who spends too much time thinking about Myst. Just wanted to correct your line at 58:41. Gehn is Atrus' father, not his son. Atrus' grandfather is named Aitrus, however. So Gehn is Aitrus' son, but you never encounter Aitrus in any of the games. Atrus is the main character that you help in Myst 1-4.
As a follow up: it is disputed in the lore, but the generally accepted theory (the one held by Atrus) is that the Art connects people to existing worlds that they describe. Gehn holds the position that practitioners of the Art create worlds from scratch, which fuelled his god complex, but the lore seems to side more with Atrus' position than Gehn's.
Final note: Myst itself has been remade and remastered many times, and it's sequel, Riven, just had a remastered version released in June that is compatible with VR.
I freaking love the lore to these games. Watching my dad play Myst impacted me so much as a child. I’ve been addicted to the lore and the music ever since
As crazy and cruel Fallout is it's not even half as cruel as read human experiments done during WW1 and WW2. (Very few of the scientists responsible got punished)
Dang. Acting like the FNaF lore is set in stone is wild to me. If you're not part of the community of theorizers, please know that 99% of what is being said is conjecture or just extremely dressed up for drama rather than what is for sure what happened. The community can't even agree on what year any of the deaths occur in, let alone motivations or typical daily lives of characters.
Yep, it's an insult that FNAF was included there as a lore game when what little lore there is, is super vague and incoherent, fanbase can't even agree on basic things, and no matter which theory you like, all of them are just so basic in comparison to DX or Fallout lore.
As someone really into the Myst series, I gotta make a slight correction to your lore. The antagonist of Riven Ghen (Atrus' father) indeed believes that the D'ni are like gods capable of creating the very worlds they link to. However Atrus has a different world view. Atrus believes the art of linking doesn't create the world but rather creates a gateway to a world that used to exist, currently exists, or will exist. Its difficult to say which one is actually correct. On the one hand, modifying the linking book has a direct affect on the world that people within the world can see happen and can stabilize or destabilize it showing an aspect of creation. However if there are significant modifications, the world seems to be on an entirely separate timeline which leans towards Atrus' theory of linking to preexisting universes. *Spoilers for the prequel book below* In the book Myst: Book of Atrus, it describes as Atrus and his father Ghen explore Age 37 (Ghen never gave his ages any names or used the names of the natives). One of the major features of the age was a giant wall of mist surrounding the island due to the warm temperature of the water around the island colliding with the cold water of the ocean. Ghen, annoyed at the native's superstition of the mist wall and trying to reinforce his image of being a god to the native residents of the age decided to make the ocean water warm to remove the mist. This did change the age, though it was rather disastrous by significantly reducing the ocean level and causing a drought. After arguing with Atrus about it, Ghen tried to "fix" Age 37 by striking out a bunch of the parts he had added rather than figuring out the underlying cause of the issues. When Atrus linked back to it after the "fix", he found it as if he and Ghen had never been there at all. None of the residents remembered him and were back to speaking their native language rather than D'ni as Ghen taught them. Basically by striking out the passages he did, Ghen linked to an entirely different version of Age 37 which gives credence to Atrus' theory that the books linked to preexisting realities. So hard to say who is actually correct as there exists evidence for both positions.
I just noticed a minor Warframe mistake, in that the synthetic Orokin creations involved in jumping to the Tau system were Sentients, not Sentinels. Sentinels are ally drones like what was shown in your pic.
Great video. Nice to see a good few of my favourites in there. Some other great game worlds with good lore I've enjoyed are: Greedfall, The Fable Series, Divinity: Original Sin, Dishonored, Kingdoms of Amalur, The Outer Worlds, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Enslaved: Journey to the West and The Darkness. So many great game worlds have been created and so many I've not yet got to enjoy.
Talking about indie games with gem of a lore, project moon games: lobotomy corporation, library of ruina and limbus company, all set in the same Universe are extremely well written and interesting.
Loved the lore of all these games. Control is another game with interesting lore. The mystery of that world really draws you in and makes you want to know more.
So funny....i was doing something on my Playstation and this video popped up on my phone and started playing in the background. I am playing Prey, and I recognized your voice IMMEDIATELY from a Prey video you did. Needless to say, I stopped what i was doing and rewound the video so I could give it my full attention. I really enjoy your videos. Thank you.
Assassin's Creed is a favourite of mine when it comes to lore, i realised just how much i loved the lore just after AC 1 because i really wasn't a fan of the gameplay of the first game at all but i was completely captivated by it and couldn't wait to play more just because of how interesting the ideas were, and despite the drastic shifts in quality across the series, the concept of the Animus is a phenomenal Sci Fi concept that has infinite potential, and has kept me interested in seeing what's next even during the worst moments in the series
I remember playing Myst and Riven when I was a kid Then I watched earlier this year a 4-5 hour long video with the lore, including things from the novels. It was amazing By the way! RealMyst is a remake and this year they released a remake of Riven!
In the Myst books the main character comes to think they don't "create" worlds through writing. He thinks theres a multiverse of infinite possibilities and their writing connects them to the existing world they specify. The bad guy thinks they create the worlds theough writing and has quite the god complex about it.
Kinda surprised not to see the lore of Battletech/Mechwarrior on the list. Easily tied with Mass Effect as my favorite sci-fi universe! Just as, if not even more, grimdark than Warhammer, also with decades of stories sunk into an ever-expanding and extremely dense/historied universe. Amazing video though! I'm a new subscriber, so forgive me if it was covered elswhere.
I’ll have to check out mech warrior lore didn’t even think to check since I haven’t played the games sounds cool. And thanks for supporting the channel!
10:50 FNAF went off the deep end after 3, Scott admitted he was just making things up as he went along. It should've been a simple story of possessed animatronics, with them finally granted peace in 3 after dealing with Springtrap. But no, greed ended up ruining everything until Scott was kicked out of his own franchise for wrong think, how appropriate.
The Nedes ancestors of the Nords didn't enslave the Snow elves, the Nedes beat them in a war, the Dwemer enslaved the Snow Elves as they were long time rivals. Yokuda isn't actually the homeland of the Redguards or Lefthanded elves it is where they first landed when they came in from another time and places, they lived on Yokuda for a time until their war with one another caused it to sink into the sea, the Redguards finishing their genocide of the Lefthanded Elves, built a fleet and their leader threw a magic hammer Eastward and where it landed would become their new homeland, Hammerfell.
Me hearing about tyranny for the first time and noticing so many similarities with the lore of Genshin... Since I started understanding genshin some years ago, I started noticing how many games pull from Gnosticism xD
You made some mistakes about the Warframe lore. The Orokin created and then fought the Sentients not Sentinel. After the Old War the Tenno didn't get betrayed by the Orokin, it was the opposite. The Tenno was the reason for the Orokin's downfall. The Tenno was but into slumber by Lotus to heal their traumatic experience from the war.
To be honest I’d kill for a game that works like setup to Tyranny. It’s the exposition and lore dump done right Yes there’s Suzerain, but it’s not this kind of fantasy.
Suzerain is basically political story with (literally) gameplay similar to the setup you’re doing when starting new game in Tyranny. It’s a sort of kinda world similar to post-war Europe. It’s pretty interesting
Philosophy was super good in planescape but the actually lore of the world (theme of video) I found way cooler in tides of numenera. I’ve always found forgotten realms and D&D lore to be super boring
You should defenitely check out the lore for a few games Final Fantasy XIV (yes i know you said you don't like jrpgs but trust me on this one) has an insane lore where and old world with highgly advanced creation magic faced a total apocalypse and ended up being shattered in 14 pieces, with the souls of the old civilization being reborn as one of those 14 pieces of soul that was separated, some of those managed to retain their memories and went on to create an organization hellbent on making the fragments of worlds to rejoin one another, a process that would utterly destroy the worlds affected, it is said that everytime a big calamity happened in the main source world it was the result of one said rejoining, caused by the massive energy influx that comes from an entire fragment of the world being trusted back into the source. Megaman As weird as it sounds, the lore of this franchise is absolutely amazing, while some games later break the intended continuity and it has a lot of holes we will never be sure will be filled, the progression from the advanced robotics that created the original robot masters all the way to a barren land where no humans exist anymore is a fascinating tale. All because the silly and weird villain Dr. Willy eventually decided to create a computer virus that would infect thousands of robots and trust the world on a neverending war for literally centuries. Genshin Impact What sounds like the most generic self insert begining of a game actually later develops into a complex tale about witnessing the truth of a world rulled by an advanced dragon society that was invaded by alien gods and terraformed for humans, you will come across thousands of years of lost civilizations that were whiped out because they got too close to the truth that none of the gods rulling this world trully belong there, you will find that theres a kownledge and power that's so corrupt it will literally infect living beings and make them toxic to be around, you will see how a single civilization who defied the heavens was then cursed to become monstrosities from the abyss, hellbent into destroying all that exists and oppose the gods, and how the world has been trapped into cycles of time that are unescaping and eternal, each era defined by a being with the will to rival that of the entire world descending uppon it from beyond the stars and changing it forever, not only that but you will also find out that you, the main character, are this world's 4th of these "Descenders" and is bound by fate to change it forever, wheater you want it or not, and maybe, just maybe, this will be the last time.
Is this a reupload or something of does FranklyGaming really not know that Myst and Riven both got remakes and they can even both be played in VR. These remakes came out in 2021 and literally a month ago respectively.
what Stalker game is this footage pulled from? Call of Pripyat was released in 2009 and even with mods I doubt it could look like that, plus the UI is unrecognizable, is there a new game? Edit: Just looked up a gameplay demo for a brand new Stalker game coming out in less than a month, and holy shit it looks dope. Im so hype

Im really enjoying this video but Geiger wasn’t a psychopath dude. He was a sweet, soft little man with a heart full of love and who loved his mother very much.
Referring to the souls games lore as riddles or absurdly vague feels like a gross misinterpretation of their storytelling. There is a universal narrative in them that everyone predominantly agrees upon. People wouldn’t emotionally respond to them so heavily if all they had to deal with was question marks. And I certainly wouldn’t consider them more vague than FNAF or Scorn. Heck, Scorn is so abstract that it practically has no lore.
Ya I get that for sure scorn is a good example where it also is even more “wtf”. I guess just in general the from soft games while they have awesome lore how it’s presented makes it hard for me to get as into it as other games
It's astounding how far AI got, that some people actually think that you write your lists and essays yourself. honestly I doubt it's even your own voice reading the "script", non the less it's some nice background noise to listen to whilst cleaning up my room :)
Yooo thank you for the great work on this vid! I'm only two games in and it's already awesome, and there are so many mores I have played (maybe 75%) I'm looking forward to hear about :) If anyone wants more, I can suggest Doom: Seems like a game where you just run & gun, but it actually has a pretty complex story and worldbuilding ^^
27:44 I'm of the opposite opinion here. If the gameplay isn't good. I won't care about the game enough to search out it's lore, at that point I'd just read a book or visual novel if I only wanted story. Otherwise great video!
It's an insult FNAF is out there with games that have actual lore 😞. FNAF doesn't have lore, it has vague lore hints that are made so vague that you can make 10 theories about it plus it still manages to contradict itself occasionally I can guarantee had AAA game studio tried this, nobody would care or they'd critique that studio for such nonsensical, vague lore. And even if you pretend there's coherent lore there, all it ends up being is that "oh wow, a killer used da magic to do da bad things, and he comes back or sumn" damn, what a deep and intriquet lore, Deus Ex has nothing on FNAF! ... Besides FNAF, all other lore game inclusions are accurate, their lore do be going hard ✍️🔥

The Legend of Heroes and Dragon Age too
BioShock should've been in this list.
Talking about indie games with gem of a lore, project moon games: lobotomy corporation, library of ruina and limbus company, all set in the same Universe are extremely well written and interesting.
I can't figure out why you don't have more subscribers. The videos are all really good and there are so many of them
Appreciate it! Will get there one day about to hit 100k which is cool. More just focused on making the best content possible
Loved the lore of all these games. Control is another game with interesting lore. The mystery of that world really draws you in and makes you want to know more.
this needs to become a series amazing work bro
Appreciate it! Definitely want to dive into more lore too, the video I have coming this week is very similar will be about gaming mysteries
Deus Ex predicted Covid-19. XD
Thank you.
You know what would be great is if a Chinese developer made the Chinese side of the fallout universe and play in something like fallout China.
I listen to this while doing homework
Thanks for watching!
Oh my God, I did not expect a mention of Caves of Qud
I remember playing Myst and Riven when I was a kid
Then I watched earlier this year a 4-5 hour long video with the lore, including things from the novels. It was amazing
By the way! RealMyst is a remake and this year they released a remake of Riven!
Good gameplay is great. Good lore rules.
Couldn’t agree more, thanks for watching!
@@FranklyGamingthank you for creating this content!
S.O.M.A was insane horror - single player game. Its a pretty complex story, but it essentially danced around the idea of copy pasting your conscience.
Love soma I talk about it in my “most profound questions asked in games” video
This popped up on my home page thank you UA-cam 👊
Hope you enjoy!
Ya the lore gets just nuts 😂, appreciate you watching the video thanks
Can't blame him for everything, people wanted more and whose he to say no?
Great job on hitting 100k Subscribers!!
appreciate it! Thanks for helping me get there
The Nedes ancestors of the Nords didn't enslave the Snow elves, the Nedes beat them in a war, the Dwemer enslaved the Snow Elves as they were long time rivals.
Congratualtions on 100k frankly keep it up now im gonna get back watch the video
Appreciate it!
Me hearing about tyranny for the first time and noticing so many similarities with the lore of Genshin... Since I started understanding genshin some years ago, I started noticing how many games pull from Gnosticism xD
Interesting haven’t dug into the Genshin lore at all
someone else who loves prey! it’s a game i recommend to so many and yet i know no one who’s ever played it😭
An iceberg video of Warframe would be amaaaazzing!!
FINALLY! a lore list that included W A R F R A M E !!!!
I got you 🦈
1:48:21 the elder scrolls music in the background 🥰
You made some mistakes about the Warframe lore.
The Orokin created and then fought the Sentients not Sentinel.
After the Old War the Tenno didn't get betrayed by the Orokin, it was the opposite. The Tenno was the reason for the Orokin's downfall. The Tenno was but into slumber by Lotus to heal their traumatic experience from the war.
i respect you putting caves of qud
Really cool game glad I found it hadn’t heard of it before
To be honest I’d kill for a game that works like setup to Tyranny. It’s the exposition and lore dump done right
Yes there’s Suzerain, but it’s not this kind of fantasy.
Haven’t hear of Suzerain but ya I hope one day we get a tyranny sequel for sure, thanks for watching!
Suzerain is basically political story with (literally) gameplay similar to the setup you’re doing when starting new game in Tyranny. It’s a sort of kinda world similar to post-war Europe. It’s pretty interesting
Is this your Kirby gameplay? Bruh.. there's a shield literally telling what you have to do^^
Good video
a sign, not a shield. "shield" wäre Schild im Sinne von Rüstung, nicht Schild im Sinne von Informationstafel.
@@svgarpaws dritte Sprache. Danke für die Korrektur
Wild that you included Torment: Tides of Numenara, and not its predecessor with a far more fun and interesting philosophy Planescape: Torment
Philosophy was super good in planescape but the actually lore of the world (theme of video) I found way cooler in tides of numenera.
I’ve always found forgotten realms and D&D lore to be super boring
Saw STALKER and Tyranny back to back
good sign.
Both are so good 🔥
You should defenitely check out the lore for a few games
Final Fantasy XIV (yes i know you said you don't like jrpgs but trust me on this one) has an insane lore where and old world with highgly advanced creation magic faced a total apocalypse and ended up being shattered in 14 pieces, with the souls of the old civilization being reborn as one of those 14 pieces of soul that was separated, some of those managed to retain their memories and went on to create an organization hellbent on making the fragments of worlds to rejoin one another, a process that would utterly destroy the worlds affected, it is said that everytime a big calamity happened in the main source world it was the result of one said rejoining, caused by the massive energy influx that comes from an entire fragment of the world being trusted back into the source.
Megaman
As weird as it sounds, the lore of this franchise is absolutely amazing, while some games later break the intended continuity and it has a lot of holes we will never be sure will be filled, the progression from the advanced robotics that created the original robot masters all the way to a barren land where no humans exist anymore is a fascinating tale. All because the silly and weird villain Dr. Willy eventually decided to create a computer virus that would infect thousands of robots and trust the world on a neverending war for literally centuries.
Genshin Impact
What sounds like the most generic self insert begining of a game actually later develops into a complex tale about witnessing the truth of a world rulled by an advanced dragon society that was invaded by alien gods and terraformed for humans, you will come across thousands of years of lost civilizations that were whiped out because they got too close to the truth that none of the gods rulling this world trully belong there, you will find that theres a kownledge and power that's so corrupt it will literally infect living beings and make them toxic to be around, you will see how a single civilization who defied the heavens was then cursed to become monstrosities from the abyss, hellbent into destroying all that exists and oppose the gods, and how the world has been trapped into cycles of time that are unescaping and eternal, each era defined by a being with the will to rival that of the entire world descending uppon it from beyond the stars and changing it forever, not only that but you will also find out that you, the main character, are this world's 4th of these "Descenders" and is bound by fate to change it forever, wheater you want it or not, and maybe, just maybe, this will be the last time.
Damn, I really need another Mass Effect adventure...
Really hoping the new dragon age and especially mass effect after it are amazing
@@FranklyGaming fingers crossed
cod zombies needs to be mentioned in one of these
i hope you do a part 2 and add in assassins creed 🙏🙏🙏
Is this a reupload or something of does FranklyGaming really not know that Myst and Riven both got remakes and they can even both be played in VR. These remakes came out in 2021 and literally a month ago respectively.
Ya I had footage of them in the video!
what Stalker game is this footage pulled from? Call of Pripyat was released in 2009 and even with mods I doubt it could look like that, plus the UI is unrecognizable, is there a new game?
Edit: Just looked up a gameplay demo for a brand new Stalker game coming out in less than a month, and holy shit it looks dope. Im so hype
did you really put FNaF here? ☠☠
3:25 ............. werent no damn bats 😂
TENNO STAND UP!!
If an automaton is given actual human consciousness from a year of a humans live, is it human? If not, what makes something human?
Exactly a question the game asks really enjoyed the philosophy in numenera
@FranklyGaming I've always loved questions like that. Nier made me think long and hard about that exact question. I didn't know Torment even existed so imma have to check it out
Im really enjoying this video but Geiger wasn’t a psychopath dude. He was a sweet, soft little man with a heart full of love and who loved his mother very much.
Never played a Xenoblade game and now I feel like I'm missing out on a master piece
Ngl that T-51B animatronic in your thumbnail sucked me in 😂
Midjourney doing work lol
I love these videos
Glad you guys are liking them!
i had to pause and j sit w my jaw dropped after hearing the kirby lore
Torment one of my favorite games I have to finish it crashed wen I was in the dream world
Torment is one of the goats for sure
Write and record them myself lol, but AI is great will incorporate it as much as possible into the workflow in future
Yooo thank you for the great work on this vid! I'm only two games in and it's already awesome, and there are so many mores I have played (maybe 75%) I'm looking forward to hear about :)
If anyone wants more, I can suggest Doom: Seems like a game where you just run & gun, but it actually has a pretty complex story and worldbuilding ^^
Really appreciate the kind words! Glad you are enjoying
27:44 I'm of the opposite opinion here. If the gameplay isn't good. I won't care about the game enough to search out it's lore, at that point I'd just read a book or visual novel if I only wanted story. Otherwise great video!
Paradise Killer looks like a Shin Megami Tensei work, like Persona 3.
Slight discrepancy coz I'm a nerd but it was the magna ge who LEFT the mortal plane that made the stars and sun in elder scrolls lore
It's an insult FNAF is out there with games that have actual lore 😞.
FNAF doesn't have lore, it has vague lore hints that are made so vague that you can make 10 theories about it plus it still manages to contradict itself occasionally
I can guarantee had AAA game studio tried this, nobody would care or they'd critique that studio for such nonsensical, vague lore.
I really wanted to like Control. I felt the gameplay was too generic and the AI not very good. The setting was so interesting.
The "gameplay" definitely takes a backseat to location/setting. Worth a playthrough for that alone.
El-dar is how you pronounce the name of the space elf’s in warhammer not elders
Great video, but how could you not mention Half Life and Portal or any valve title
Matpat: LOOOOOOOORE!!!!!
The goat
cannot seem to find your synopsis of torment: tides of numenera from searching, WHERE IS IT
oh found it, for those interested its titled "The Forgotten Sci-Fi RPG That Deserved More Attention"
@@zemymix4598 yep that’s it! I linked it on a card too in the video when I mentioned it
@@FranklyGaming i was unfamiliar with that youtube feature so I was just looking at the video description for it :'))
Dues Ex... was strangly prophetic?
I might be to high but I think dues ex is kinda mimicking real life
They knew too much lol
Tyranny is the GOAT
My good man you should dive into the nier/Drakengard lore and signalis those are some rabbit holes in themselves
i want more xeno saga a little more kos-mos and insane story sounds good or maybe more xeno gear still my fav game from the PS era game , strange i never got into xenoblade .
