Cool & imaginative video John. I would love to hear your take on SLEEP TOKEN just announced as Download headliners - it's been many years since a metal band got so big so fast.
I love this type of daydream slash thought experiment! ^^ I'm pausing right after the intro to come up with my own fantasy line-up before hearing yours. Let's see... Vocals: Andreas Stoltz (Hollow, Sweden) Guitars: Galder (Old Man's Child, also Dimmu* Borgir, Norway) Guitars (lead): Brian McPhee (ex-Exciter, Canada - recently filled in for a tour so still in shape, sadly no album since the 80s) Bass: Charles Berthoud (the UA-cam bass-tapping beast, UK) Drums: Paulina Villarreal (The Warning, Mexico*) Keys: No one. My whole list (except for Brian, I think) can play keys and/or piano more than well if they want some on select tracks. --- Yeah, I'd definitely listen to that band. They're all unique musicians and songwriters (or at least composers, I think only Andreas and Pau are proper lyricists, although Galder wrote plenty of lyrics too, but it's not his strength) I love and admire and they come from fairly varied backgrounds and styles (and eras, although I tried to make this the least ancient possible ^^) but they should be compatible. They're all firmly rooted in metal or at least metal-adjacent music, and they all have an exceptional sense of melody, harmony and a focus on (often dramatic or epic) emotion in both their compositions and performances. I think if they got to jam together they could come up with amazing and probably pretty unexpected stuff. OR it could go horribly wrong due to the "too many cooks in the kitchen" syndrome. ^^ --- Alright, let's hear yours now. Edit: Nice one! Funny how you've picked no less than 3 ex-Rainbow members out of your 5 choices, but you've managed not to mention Rainbow a single time! ^^ Bonnet and Airey even played together on 'Down to Earth'.
NIce picks. I have always wanted to see these guys work together: Vocals: David Coverdale Guitar: Tony Iommi, Drums Ian Paice, Bass: Geezer Butler, Keyboards: Don Airey. Black Purple Rainbow!
Great picks!! Following you for a while now I had a feeling it would come down to a few select musicians so I was trying to predict -- was right on the rhythm section and the keyboards! For me, I'd go with Dave Meniketti (Vocals & Guitar), John Sykes (Lead Guitar), Geezer Butler (Bass), Vinnie Appice (Drums), and Don Airey (Keyboards)
My dream band ( 1975 , some deceased ) Brian - Lead Vocals Tony Iommi - Rhythm guitar Eddie Van Halen - Lead guitar Phil Lynnot - Bass Neil Peart - Drums Songs ( covers) Black sabbath - Electric Funeral Nazareth - Miss Misery Deep Purple - Burn Uriah Heep - Gypsy Montrose - Dreamer Scorpions - Sails of Charon Ted Nugent - Writing On the Wall Derringer - Sweet Evil Pink Floyd - Set Controls For the Heart of the Sun Budgie - Parents Nazareth - Ballad of Hollis Brown
My dream band: No vocals, G.E. Stinson from Shadowfax on guitar, Kit Watkins from Happy the Man on keyboards, Agostino Marangolo from Goblin on drums and percussion and rounding things off would be Geddy Lee on the bass and additional keyboards(synthesizers).
As a bass player, maybe you could do a show on bassists. Today's topic made me suggest this because I've wondered if a busy bass player like Chris Squire could/would change bands who have solid but "unadventurous" bassists.
A couple years ago, I did a similar show with my buddy Leigh over at Iridium Rock & Metal. My self imposed rule for my list was I wanted members that had never worked together in the past. Lead Vocals: Doogie White Lead Guitar #1: Tony Iommi Lead Guitar #2: Buck Dharma Rhythm Guitar: Jon Schaffer Bass: Jeff Pilson Drums: Deen Castronovo With the exception of Tony, all "my" members do vocals. ua-cam.com/video/_flLHS9nDkY/v-deo.html
I would have to think a bit to put together a true dream band, but I like this kind of stuff so.. Since I have no shame, I'm going with Bob Daisley on bass as well. To my defense I will say I have been a fan of his like forever ok? Very creative, good songwriter and just get along with everyone. The glue that keeps the band together. His partner in crime behind the drum kit will be Gavin Harrison. I feel these two could create something out of the ordinary. Guitarist.. This is hard. Must write and be creative, original.. and I only want one. Ronni Tekrø will totally do that. On vocals I want Dino Jelusick. He can front the band, all the girls will scream and the jaws of the rest will drop when he starts to sing. Why not. I would buy a ticket.
@ Off the top of my head, I’ll just list a few ladies: Mlny Parsonz (Royal Thunder), vocals and bass; Gina Gleason (Baroness), guitar; and Grace Bowers (solo/session), guitar. I cheated and had to look up the drummer from Beaches: Eliza Enman-McDaniel. That would actually be one hell of a band. (In fact, Mlny Parsonz and almost anyone would make a hell of a band.) The point is, there are a lot of good young rock artists out there. I am in my mid-50s and I definitely love older music from bands like Deep Purple and Black Sabbath, but at this point a collaboration of those geezers would not excite me. Would have been cool in 1992, perhaps, but not now. Younger artists have more energy and creativity-just as they did back in our day.
Great band
Nice picks for the musicians John! Really good 👍

BTW, a group that intrigues me: Meat Loaf, Randy Rhoads, Chris Squire, and Bill Ward.

How about Dino Jelusick, Tommy Shaw, Billy Sheehan, Steve Smith and Don Airey.
Too many old farts. Listen to newer artists!
So what newer artists would be in your band?
