You can be proud of yourself, proud of your offspring, your siblings, your parents, etc., but it's impossible to be proud of someone you have never met. There is no connection between you.

The thing to remember, however, is the what Mr. Asprey is promoting is actually the opposite of what your mother did.The flu is a viral illness. The advice is to feed not starve what's viral, and starve not feed what's bacteriological.

    One of the first podcasters that actually brings up one of the major benefits of fasting well beyond food. Bravo for hitting the nail on the head. Fasting teaches you to be resilient well beyond what you stuff in your face and proves to you that you really can master anything within and without yourself as a being. Control is empowering.

    Very informative interview. I am now thinking I am a strange woman because doing things the same every day has NEVER been a good thing for me. The weight loss stops. And the weight starts creeping back up. My body adapts quickly to the foods I eat and my workouts. Being a post menopausal woman has brought many changes in my life and one is definately not fasting the same every day. It worked for a while and Dave hit the nail on the head. Hair loss, feel crummy, weight gain and being in post menopause added to the weight gain. Who would have ever thought you could over train. When I figured this out 4 years ago the weight gain finally stopped. It made no sense but I just rolled with it. Now I would not even call the workouts I do now even workouts. It's to keep the body moving, the bones strong and lubricated, and to sculpt. I use to work out hard and it was too much stress on my body. I miss it. Sometimes I train hard just because I miss the rush of those amazing feel good hormones after a hard rigorous workout but I do pay the price for it.
    Fasting has changed my life. It's a wonderful journey.

    I did a 31 day water fast this year. I felt great only stopped cause I felt like I was going to faint. I learned that hunger was never an issue for me and that cravings have been running my obese life. I am in control now. I know when I am just craving something now. I am diabetic and I can eat carbs on occasion but when my blood sugar levels start creeping up, I just fast for a meal or two. I am not going to demonize foods anymore... just learn how to cycle though food groups. Just like Dave, I was a vegan and loved it... then all of a sudden I felt like I was missing a lot of nutrients and it was awful for me. Now I eat variety, and listen to my body. I am so happy I went on this journey and found Dave along the way. I recently added bulletproof coffee to my mornings and really love it! God bless everyone who is on a health journey! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Over the past year or so, I naturally came to mixing up my eating window both in duration and frequency. I haven’t “visited” with Dave Asprey in many years and decided to watch this interview. Definitely going to get his new book and delve further into what will no doubt be the science behind why mixing it up has been so effective for me. And you, Dhru are as cute as a bug! Other books do indeed talk about how to cope with the difficulties of fasting - all aspects. I'm not sure why Dave feels the need to claim he's filled some niche that no one else has, but he compromises his credibility when he says things like this. He makes a lot of sense, but so have many others. There are PLENTY of books and plans for fasting currently in publication which absolutely address the physical and mental challenges that average, overweight, metabolically compromised, and sick individuals can/will encounter during both intermittent and extended fasting. It would be a silly and incomplete story, and would certainly not lead to success for many.
    Dave is certainly not the only expert writing about fasting, and he's certainly not the best. In the end, he's less interested in helping humans than he is in selling stuff.
    Dr. Jason Fung, Dr. William Davis, Gin Stephens, Stephen Harrod Buhner, and several others have excellent books that explain the science and benefits of fasting, and do indeed address the difficulties some folks face when fasting.

      I was very disappointed in this interview as well. I listened to about half of it and there wasn't any information, that would have been new or helpful to anyone not totally new to the topic.
      Is there any specific book, you'd recommend for someone interested in the topic? I'm having trouble choosing. In my experience, a lot of authors just go on and on about their personal experiences or this or that person and their 'success story' and I absolutely hate that. I want information and science (explained appropriately for a layperson), not page after page of 'fluff'.

      Please allow me to accept what you have to say with out a agenda other than truth:
      You hate positive communicators and experience them as vile with negative intentions.
      (Dr Fung is a shitty communicator which outstanding data imo and your okay with him correct?)
      You don’t like people who are really successful at making things easy and systemized because it make you feel less smart which is a addiction in its self .
      You like a bunch of quality other people though, who are less effective at sharing but possibly more detail rich while ignoring the basic balances of things on the whole thereby making crap for many people but it serves your elitism so it’s fine.
      Your okay with the success of those people because they are not middle of the road types open to all.
      Did I miss much?
      Yes... there are hundreds or more of fasting books which we could ask dude about and why he narrowed it down to just 1/2 dozen... most likely because he’s making it simple for people or because that’s what he saw at a store...
      You gottem by short wiggies on the last point but he’s helped many so that counts for allot;-)

    In the Pentecostal faith, we will fast weekly. Some, especially preachers, ministers, missionaries and teachers will fast 40 days as Jesus and Moses did. I fasted a lot growing up so it's easy for me, my mind and body to slip into fasting mode. My thing is, fasting separately for health and my faith. I gain benefits of both, but there are times I want to devote all my energy to prayer and fasting for the Lord rather than just health. When I fast for health, I eat in the morning and skip supper. It's easier for me to skip meals at home than at work.

    A good discussion. Fasting will benefit anyone but must train your body. Many grossly overweight people are addicted by food like any other drugs. I think some people feel freedom in ability to overeat, and eat what they want. But not true freedom on having good healthy. Ahh where does exercise come in at or just walk?

      Look into Dr. Mindys fasting circle. If you fast during your progesterone creating phase roughly 20 days after your last cycle started then your causing undo stress to your endocrine and reproductive system. Also this is the best time increase your carbs (sweet potatoes and squash etc)

    Just an extra tip for women... the last week or so before your cycle is the most crucial time to NOT fast. Your body needs the hormonal triggers of food to produce the correct hormones for a healthy cycle. :)

    I’ve been 12 years vegan and more healthy than most at my grand age of 50. I’ve lost many friends to ill health already, very sadly. I was looking into fasting and maybe some vegan keto as a fast track fix to get back to where I was in the autumn after a truly insanely huge amount of processed carb and sweet treat overeating over the Christmas period. This year it seemed everyone I know seemed to think I needed cakes, chocolates and sweets as a treat (nope this feels like a burden not a treat) but I’ve been ploughing through them for 6 weeks and gained weight and feeling terrible. I heard quite a lot of negativity in your video about the vegan diet and I would just like to balance what you say by being living proof that sensible mindful vegan eating IS highly sustainable. I have yet to have any greys, my hair is thick and healthy, my skin is better in the last decade than it’s been all my life as a now ex eczema sufferer. I am definitely not suffering, I am thriving after 12 years. But it’s definitely the sugar and the processed carbs that have caused me trouble these past intense few weeks of unhealthy eating. I’m glad to hear your advice that keto and fasting shouldn’t be a permanent regime as I haven’t heard that said anywhere yet. I’m going to try cautiously, I certainly don’t want to lose my hair! Eek! But I hear what you say about the benefits of mitochondrial renewal. I’m usually one to avoid fad eating. The vegan decision was made for ethical reasons when I was nine years old but hated vegetables! It took me a while to get even to veggie but I went veggie for 20 years and then vegan ever since so it’s been well over 30 years since I ate meat. I can honestly say I’m not sick or dead 😆. It’s good to hear balance, but long term veganism is perfectly fine if you are sensible, balanced, you get yourself well informed, listen to your body and don’t eat junk. I dabbled with raw too, but that wasn’t sustainable, I agree. Thank you for such an interesting video!

    • @ThereseHartmann
      @ThereseHartmann 3 роки тому +4

      I so agree! I get my labs checked regularly and there isn't anyone in my entire meat-eating (and they do follow a clean diet) family who has better labs than me. Intermittent fasting is old news...they have been doing this in India for centuries....but Dave's version of it is breathing new life into the benefits. It's causing people to have some hope. The one thing I wish he'd get over is his aversion to veganism. It's in direct contract to some of the most prominent anti-aging doctors and researchers including Dean Ornish, Victor Longo, David Sinclair, Dr. Esselstein, etc., etc. Don't get me wrong, Dave is entertaining (I love his voice and humor) but I would really love if he would be a little more open-minded and more inclusive. After all, the longest lived cultures in the world are either entirely, or mostly, plant-based.

    • @Mmmmkaaay
      @Mmmmkaaay 2 роки тому

      I think the idea is to change it up once in a while. Maybe open your eating window for breakfast and lunch if you normally open it for lunch and dinner. Or do 16:8 if you normally do 20:4.
      Basically, keep the body guessing on occasion.

    This podcast can be summarized in the old adage "Everything in Moderation!" More than half the world are on starving mode because the other half have too much, much too much of the earth's resources. This advice is good for those who have the choice. Unfortunately, many do not have the choice, cannot read and let alone buy the book.
