  • The video summarizes Live Aid, considered the greatest live concert of all time.
Live Aid was a concert held on July 13 1985 in two continents, starting in London (Wembley Stadium) and moving to Philadelphia (JFK Stadium), with spinoffs in other parts of the world like Europe and Australia. The goal was to raise funds for relief of the 1983-1985 famine in Ethiopia.
Besides the audience in person (72k in UK, 70k in the US), 1.9 billion people in 150 nations watched the concert on TV (live broadcast before the internet, websites, and social media). The concert was about 16 hours long, and the DVDs show 10 hours.
The performance by Queen is now often regarded as the best concert ever. But Queen was just a small part of those 16 hours. Some other highlights according to the DVDs are Bob Dylan, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, U2, Paul McCartney, Madonna, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Beach Boys, Tina Turner, Dire Straits, Pretenders, George Michael, Phil Collins, Black Sabbath, Sade, Elvis Costello, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, Judas Priest, and USA for Africa, among many others. Presenters include Jack Nicholson, Bette Midler, and other artists.
Editing a show like this is a challenge. There is too much to show, and many issues due to copyright. It's not my intention to violate anyone's copyright, I recommend seeing the original artists and works. So, I edited the video heavily to try to meet the requirements of UA-cam. I excluded many sections as I had to revise the videos I had created before.
I think it's important to remember Live Aid, despite the controversies and technical problems it faced almost 40 years ago. I was a small boy watching TV, and the concert is still one of my most important memories. I believe people deserve to remember Live Aid.
