Somebody! Do Something about the Cigarette Smoking in these Jazz Venues. The quality Emmet Cohen brings is rare and well worth our efforts to preserve his health from Cancer that so many other musicians have become I'll from over the last 100+ years! Perhaps musicians should lead the way for thier own preservation of themselves! Hopefully, this effort will become a collaborative effort that will unite jazz musicians and thier patrons who claim to appreciate and support this art form, throughout this Universe!
I once heard Bill Evans playing an upright in the rug department of a West Side Sterns Department store in Manhattan. It was clear that the brilliance was the pianist, not the piano. He sounded like himself and that piano was as far from a Bosendorfer as you could get. Also rugs were hung around the piano space.
@@antoniog2854 you are right there and thank you @edmondutleyjr.4504 ! - And foremost this audio and video was done by two professional musicians with a true dedication and love for Jazz. Even using Neumann Mics from the 60ies to get it right. It was such a pleasure and honor to work with Emmet, Kyle and Philip and to experience their playing that close.
@@berta.berlin Beautiful! Great job! Such care with the audio/video is so rare. I see vintage Schoeps (or Neumann) mics on the piano. The colors/tones of the visual component is so clear yet very warm and rich. Everything is exceptional and like you said, all honoring these wonderful musicians and the music. Bravo!
@@antoniog2854 Thank you so much!! Actually these are old dynamic AKGs for the piano. Very good for a live recording, not too sensitive but still sounding great.
Wow, this is a terrific experience!! Never felt so close to the performers and the music. This is probably the most intense concert documentation I have seen so far. A big thank you to whoever did film this in such a style and who made this recording sound simply stunning.
Victor's Places is the YT channel you might like to check out. Victor intends to have Emmet back again. I think he will be recording others and uploading.
@@cooldebt thank you! That Bill Frisell video is a real treasure too. The other stuff is not thoroughly convincing and does not meet this kind of rare quality level - IMHO. Looking forward to see more of Emmet there!
@@newdirectionsinmusic5015 In that case it must be Emmet's wonderful sound team rather than Victor's Places. I haven't listened to the Bill Frisell yet but plan to! We are so spoilt by the EC3 sound engineering team, it's sometimes hard to listen to others 😅
Emmet, my friend, and personal inspiration. I'd like nothing more to salute you and your band, with a toast of a tall glass of sangria 🍷🍷 Thank you for always making a Monday shine...
I have finally had the opportunity to listen to Emmet in Belgium (Gouvy on 3 august 2024) with those 2 musicians + the fantastic Ruben FOX (ts) with a wonderful sound and the excellent singer Ekep NKWELLE. What a wonderful evening ! Thanks to all of you and please come back as soon as possible. You are very welcome in Belgium.
You guys killed it on Best Things in Life. Song originally sung by Marilyn Monroe. Philip’s solo took me back to Niels Henning Orsted Pederson, whom i had the privilege to hear twice with Oscar Peterson and Joe Pass
Kyle easily entered my list of most influential musicians of all time Not only does he masterfully make a drum kit sing in every performance, but he enhances music in ways I’ve never before experienced. Maybe that speaks to my myopia concerning jazz, but at least I can say I found my home in it and his musicianship now Much love from RI ❤🫶🏼
Yesterday was his concert in the Old Town Square in Warsaw. I have to say that it was one of the best jazz concerts I've ever been to. Great atmosphere a varied repertoire: ballads, latino, standards and crazy ragtime at the end.
Yes, indeed: I was there too. I 2nd your comment. One of the best trios I’ve ever caught . The bar was way way high - but not in a showy way - just pure - an inspiring experience to witness live for sure. It made me hunt down more! And here I am. Really really great - everything.
Have a ticket for your gig in Oslo in about 3 weeks at the end of a 4 day trip there. Missed that one in Berlin here right around the corner - so equalized. ❤
We usually wait for @Meira A to provide a wonderfully detailed setlist with names of tune, composer and some additional informative detail or comment. It has been done for pretty much every Monday night performance uploaded during the pandemic and since. We are indebted to her 💖
4:55 Phillip Norris bass solo was 🔥 imo the greatest jazz bassist of this era. Not to take away anything from the others, but he's got style

Excellent!. The music you share brings back the high i felt when I heard jazz live for the first time in the clubs in NYC circa 1980's!
So cool to read that Diane ⭐
And there was WPRB in Princeton....first heard Coltrane on it.
That high is why jazz needs to come back to the mainstream. It’s invigorating!!!

Poinciana, written by Ahmed Jamal. It’s one of the ECT canon pieces.
