Say what you will about Worlds Beyond as a marketing idea, the flavour being brought to these cards has been getting better and better as the leash has been taken off

@@dbptwg "The House Always Wins" is an axiom that states that, since casino games are rigged to lose at least 51% of the time or more, the house always makes a profit over the long run. Since House has a 75% return on rolling d20s, the house does always win here.

Because casino games and such are always designed so that the odds are in the house's favor, so while it may take a loss here and the many, many wins will make up for those few losses several times over.
Such as here, where the card seems fair at first glance, until you do a double take and realize that it is a 75% chance to get the winning roll. At least if you rig your rolls by using D20s.

@@Hairy-houstonian you can only roll what the rules tell you to roll but there are several cards that have you roll a d20 from the baldur's gate sets

@@Khorne-bd4tc Judging by the Sample commander shown and having made a Ghen deck, My assumption is it BUILDS. Lots of ways to get value, likely through things treating the graveyard's revolving door like a merry-go-round.
@@Khorne-bd4tc I know for Ghen it's to hit someone with a Curse of Opulence. Incentivize every attacking everyone else. Use Ghen to turn that into an Overwhelming Splendor, or whatever enchantments you need from the yard to lock out someone as the game plays out. Revoling door indeed.
Crackhead legos is kinda the same for artifacts, Jan Jansen is the poster child. Also hilarious in Akiri Line Slinger + Armix Filigree Thrasher. In play, in the yard, benefit either way.
it's such a good theme as well, it presents itself as a luck based card with d6's but then it hits you with d20's because the house always wins
I do love how it makes it seem fair, and on its own kinda is. Meanwhile, as your swarm of robots crush them they will truly know. "The game was rigged from the start."
Played a deck of it online. Swung for 60 with roombas. Can confirm, is fun.

Also interesting is the type line from a lore standpoint: he's a "Legendary Artifact Creature" with 0 base power because he uploaded himself to escape the bombs, but he's still considered "Human" and not anything else. That's a hell of a precedent to set.
That would be because he's still a human? You see that prune looking guy laying atop a table and in the reflection of his avatar on screen? That's Mr. House. You can literally pull him out of his sarcophagus in game and re-seal him while listening to his wails as he realizes you have cut him off from all the machines he had under his control and doomed him to die from some random infection. Guy never uploaded himself, closest to that would be his robot GF he got by brainscanning an actress that he put in a securitron.
I read the card twice. The first time was just a normal read through. Then once I read "six-sided die" on that second ability, and my brain immediately went "Wait, does it specify the die you need to roll that number on in the first ability?" When I realized it didn't specify, I was like "oh fuck, d20's!"
That second ability really is a fakeout.
I was already working on a Wyll dice focused deck, but now I get to take all my Commander Legal Unfinity attractions and make the New Vegas Strip right there on the table
absolute flavor win in my opinion, getting to use the attractions from unfinity which give you free dice rolls.
The flavor of the fallout cards has been amazing, the rad counters, overencumbered, Mr. House, it’s all perfect. I’m not a fallout nut either but lord knows I’m building mothman and radiating the hell out of the whole board

I'm so glad you agree about the un set stuff I have a moxfield package with all the cards that would work in the rules based off of what was in unfinity from previous sets and I got my playgroup to agree to have them legal by default. Big Idea is such a fun Rakdos tokens commander.

Having built a deck around this as soon as the spoiler dropped i love it. I build budget so no big dragons but it can still make an impressive board. Love playing it and the flavor definitely makes it one of my favorite decks to play

I can finally comment since I made a mr. house deck. I'm glad you mentioned the silver bordered wonders because the sword of dungeons & dragons is in the deck, mainly used for the d20 rolls.
I was not expecting Mr. House, but I love this card and have already started deck building for specifically this guy (I already had a ton of dice rolling cards waiting to be used)
You're so spot on I've built a Mardu deck yesterday from what cards I had and let me tell you... Yes, It doesn't have ramp, it doesn't have cars draw it's just aristocrats + red or boros + black and it needs a bit of love.
Fun fact you can play Wyll inside the "House" deck to to roll extra d20

Delina, Wild Mage is going on a research trip to New Vegas it seems... So many of the D&D cards let you roll d20's and many of them are pretty good in commander even without this bonus upside. This is going to be interesting.

I actually have a bit of a problem with Mr. House's color identity, & think Esper would be a better fit than Mardu. In essence, my issue is that the spirit of Red's reckless innovation & creativity doesn't match as well as Blue's cold calculations & progress, when it comes to interpreting Mr. House as a Magic card. However, I understand that could be a nitpick, & I do think the card is one of those that can sneak under the radar as weak, until they start making their army of tokens & loads of treasures off of the dice rolling.
Not having him be Esper did feel weird as well since those colors have some fun artifact interactions that would play well with the Robot tokens.
I don't think it's a nitpick at all. The designers really downplayed House's intelligent scheming and favorably calculated risks in favor of making him the wacky dice rollin' token man. All in the name of fitting him in the mardu precon. Tragic.
Not being blue is also kinda inconvenient, since blue has a lot of die-rolling, specifically d20 stuff.
Im really getting the feeling that these UB pre-cons will have the worst flavour we had this far, they are trying to fit too much, at this point they should have made a set.

Mr house should be 'murica colors. Red for liberty, blue for cold hard cash, and white for order. Just like the trump wall, and the goat foreign aid deck.

I only ever played half of 2 separate Fallouts so I have no skin in the game, but this whole set looks fantastic! Like the dev team for this set actually took pride for the first time in a hot minute and I am here for it. Wanted to make a dice-based decklist for a while and never had a commander - that's fixed!
This and the Doctor who sets looks like they're both flavor and mechanic wins!

I love token generation in Mardu! have been enjoying it primarily with Extus, Oriq Overlord, so ill have to give it a spin when House comes out.

I used to run a Kelsien the plague equipment voltron deck, I was definitely part of team "cry in the corner because their commander got removed." Worst part is I just built a similar deck around Snapdax. I can't wait for Mr. House.

@whenthechipsaredown9355 1. Just play the creatures you like! By my count there are around 1200 simic non-legendaries with ETBs so if only half of those are any good, you're still looking at 600 possible cards with value (what, only a quarter are good? Thats still 300). For me personally, are Purple Worm or Green Dragon particularly good? No, but I run them because they're on theme, and I've had some cheeky asymmetric board wipes flashing in GD with Vivien. In the average FNM casualEDH pod a deck being optimal is a lot less important than you *enjoying* it.
2. Just don't concern yourself too much with originality! If you build the deck, *you* *built* the deck, and no one can take that away from you. This is gonna sound silly, but do you feel bad including sol ring or command tower in your decks? I bet not. To an extent every single card choice is a tug of war on a spectrum of effectiveness & originality, because if u can notice its good someone else has too. Do your own research, find your own combos to be proud of, and don't let mind goblins bother you with that "uhh pretty sure I saw this same combo at the LGS last month" bs.
Honestly, I think The Master from Fallout 1 should be a card in Sultai. His influence is part of the first two Fallout games, and he had a far larger impact than Mr. House did.

I played this in tabletop sim against some randoms and when the D20s started coming oh man did it get nasty real quick. The stuff that lets you roll additional dice is busted, even though it ignores the lowest roll, but even then the access to Annointed Procession and Mondrak spit on that.
