RAIN CHAIN DRAIN Installation

- Left Tool has a strange gutter situation on one corner of his porch. He solves it with a rain chain drain. He went with a rain chain drain because he didn't like the way a gutter looked in this spot.

Doesn’t every Hog fan bring their own knee pillow? 😆 Nice job on the install!
Like JIBBS once said "do your chains hang low do they wobble to the floor". I think I might need to add that to my backyard. Cheers dude
IMOWLOW 😂👍🏼
Dang that's a lot of weight hanging from your gutter. The chains, plus the weight of the water, I'm surprised it didn't rip the gutters right off.
add about 6" of down spout to where the chain attaches... will clean up the look a little more and also should funnel the water better to the chain.
Yes, that is what I did with mine. I have brown gutters and looks great with the aged copper chains.
Interesting idea! Wonder if you could add a 3-6” section of downspout at the top (attached to the “downspout mouth” with the chains coming through) to further direct/guide the water down the chain?
Sean H.
I wondered the same. Maybe even pointed in at the bottom a bit like a funnel??
* taps head * not just a hat rack.
Some how I missed this video. This is supper cool though!
looks cool, I like the fish at the bottom. I have chains on all down spouts of my home here in Dominican Republic, I also had chais on my home in Costa Rica. Kind of s.o.p. in both places to use chains rather than downspouts. Only diference it using only one but much larger gauge chain. Most often it is done with very thick plastic chain given the weight of the metal chain. There are also people who use the little buckets all linked togehter, those are kind of coolish too.
Andrew Kirwan
I have seen the little buckets or funnels. Some look good! I have also seen one with little cylinders down a chain that was my favorite.
I don’t know why I have not tried some different types around my outdoor kitchen. Labor is so freaking cheap to get some kind of bucket style unique thing. But I don’t think any type would keep up with the tropical storm directly above me as I type this.
Andrew Kirwan
Oh that’s right! Stay safe!
There are cone shaped attachments you can buy to direct the water better as it comes of of the rain gutter
First Aussie 😁. Looking good. 😎👍👍
Interesting idea. I do like the look rather than having the metal down spout
That’s a pretty cool idea. It would be cool if you could put some kind of lighting through the chains. Not sure if that would work with electricity and water 🤷♂️Good video though👍
Steven Shivel
Ooooo I like that idea!
Solid clear plastic tubing with LEDs ran through would work. They already sell it for use as Christmas lights so it can be done without needing to fab anything up yourself and should be waterproof. I would love to see what that would look like.
I will be so pissed at that rain chain
Nice job...where did you get the clay fish that the chain goes into?.....please send a link if you could.
Thanks
just at my local lowes in garden center

Speaking of tools you need, a wheelbarrow would be hella helpful for you lol
I think this is the first Left Tool video I've seen. I LIKE, GIVE US MORE 😁👌🏾🤙🏾🔥

Ha we R dumb
I save my chain for the dungeon. 😉
That's mesmerizing with the storm water gushing down them, also unique custom touch when it's not raining! 💚
Koven Carlson
Yea it’s crazy how much water stays on the chains!
How big are the chains you used like the links?
I have a project in my back yard and have been considering a rain chain. This may have helped me decide to do it! Thanks Left Tool!
Dadding All Day
They have some pre made ones that look pretty neat too
You should hang the top of the chains above the down spout. Those bars really risk blockage

Larger chain links would be more efficient, my nephew has put several rain chains on their customers' homes.

Maybe close. Here is a tie trophy just in case - 🏆
The emperor had no clothes. Come on ppl, this is just stupid and it doesn't work as well as a plain ol downspout.
That's awesome. Definitely gonna try and incorporate one of those into the next crib. Wife approves too!
Budget Lawns
They make some pretty cool designs in pre made ones too
i think the shape of that particular chain is causing the water to slide off instead of slide down into the fish mouth
Where is all that water going 🤔🤔 under the slab....😳
Pretty cool idea! 👍🏼😎
Always wipe your chalk off on your pillow.
I’ve always loved rain chains! I might just have to do one of these bad boys myself.
ReelBob Shady
It’s mesmerizing
There is something fishy about this whole project..... ah yes it’s the fake rain lol
Max Harris
Hahaha
never do anything I suggest.. but, what if the gutter had regular “gutter” for a short distance at the top just to get the water flowing downward? Can you get anywhere near it holding a large 🧲? As always thanks for another great video gentlemen!
BermudaLawnNC
Yes I think it needs a tiny bit of a funnel at the top. Although doing great as is too
Abbey didn't look too pleased to be fetching and carrying when you were just videoing😅. great video BTW!
Good idea, But maybe a regular rain downspout is better after all. The whole purpose of a closed aluminum pipe is for no water spillage. One can decorate the downspout or hide it in some ornamental column. If you make the top water outlet a bit smaller and the water collection opening larger u can drain all the water to the street pipes. Any way one looks at it, chains will disperse the vertical flow of the water a bit outwards. I know in many Asian countries, in small villages they use very thick ropes made of bamboo/jute etc as rain gutter downspouts. The gutter openings they create at the top of them is very precise in size in relation to the rope thickness, and they work perfectly with no spillage. They also use huge bamboo shoots for rain gutters and 'closed' gutter downspouts. Incredibly strong & rigid.
That’s pretty clever idea. Looks sweet when it’s raining or not.
Connor X
Thanks! 😁👍🏼
You’re now part of the rain chain gang ....
Chris Voit
Nice!
He needs to be turned loose 😂
Where’d u get the fish - he’s great!
hello! can i know where did you get the chains? It seems to have a slightly different design from the general chain. I like the design of the chain you used.
No good at all. You are going to destroy the wall and the wood with all the splash. Badly designed.
Wait... the exterior wall is going to get destroyed if it gets wet?
I did the same thing to my old 140 year old farm house. I used aged copper chandelier chain. weighted the ends down into a pot, love the color it gives, great idea but the industrial looking chains is pretty, but thats just me. Great job, great video.
Wow! That actually looks pretty good. Great job dude for doing all by yourself. Ha!
Well now I know what a chain drain is... I have never seen or heard about them before you mentioned it.
Fescue Freddy
The casino near us has them and it always mesmerized me 😁👍🏼
@@TheLawnTools sounds like an awesome water feature kind of deal
left cracks me up
If you had som of that guard in the gutter just above the chain, wouldnt it act as a diffuser and make more flow down the chains?
Steve Whitaker
I keep wondering the same. Almost need a tiny bit of a funnel at top or something. It’s a work in progress 😁
Steve where were you 2 weeks ago!?!?
I was out looking for some Lawn Tools swag....
Goodby foundation
3 chains together on one bolt would’ve worked a lot better but it’s still prettier than a down spout.
I love the idea and it looks great! May have to try that on one of my downspouts!
First time ever hearing of a chain drain. Cool little water feature, great video. Lawn looks like it’s coming in nicely.
woo pig sooie 🐗
That looks rather nifty!! Cool job!
Great job ! Thanks for sharing this video with us.
Nice wooden posts ! What size are they ? Looking to wrap mine but my local stores only sell 1x8” in weathered wood
mine are 8X8 i believe they were supposed to be smaller originally. they sent the wrong ones. but loved that they did
Creative solution bruh. 👍👍
Never heard of a rain chain drain but this is a really cool idea.
Retired S&M equipment put to good use
Very nice. How’s the sod coming along?
The Lawn Channel may be time for an update on that. Temps haven’t been great until just recently to really take. But seems to be rooting a bit finally. Still yet to make 1st cut
Sod is looking good. How about an update
Mike Brown
Yessirrr! The Tahoma 31 is greening up nicely! About time for an update!
Why not get one of those nice water collecting buckets with a spout on it so you could use the rain water to water flowers and plants and reuse it?
Keith Conti
I have wondered about those. My wife (right tool) says no because they are an eyesore 😬
The Lawn Tools they actually make some nice ones now. I just can’t justify the price. But stimulus check money.... haha
The Lawn Tools also eye sore.... look at his hanging chains
Sorry but Lonely Troutman 2 did not fit this video very well.
The chain drain looks really great though!
Alaina Brooks
Lonely troutman 2?! 😂😂😂
