Love how he’s on that “yeh im way past that bothered i’ll sound pretentious i’m gonna say what really influences me’ level of not caring. Proper artist
I like it how he keeps sayings things like “you know” and “like” over and over and he’s got that teenager tone of voice, yet he’s saying all of these incredibly intellectual things on top of that.
This is a great interview, but I've counted, and if I haven't made any mistake... During the course of this interview, this man has said "like" exactly 100 times.
what he said about the idea behind far side virtual is GENIUS holy shit. I 100% get what he means about that cheap mobile / other country's perspective of american electronic culture vibes. fucking genius
It's pretty difficult to get into his work. The unbridled, sincere weirdness can be understandably off-putting. I like to introduce people to OPN first (a kindred spirit of Ferraro's in so many ways) as he is somewhat more accessible... You know, relatively... But they deal with similar ideas. They even started a reading group recently! They're both geniuses as far as I'm concerned.
While I didn’t expect his voice to sound like that, it is common for geniuses to be socially awkward so his trouble with putting thoughts to words isn’t much of a surprise.
dude cannot articulate himself in the slightest. its almost legitimately funny how well he communicates himself through music but when tasked to do it through words hes utterly incapable
probably iAsia. its such an impossibly dense record that i wish it wasnt so lofi just so i could hear what the fuck is actually going on, but that mystery is what drives my interest with it over other records. there are hints of superbly interesting music underneath the muck.
artsdegree I like the cover art from iAsia, James creates some really profound images, I've never seen anything like that. I'm more drawn to his original productions like the Suki Girlz project, track 14 is probably my favorite track from that project. And God of London is an amazing work as well.
this interview is just about how I expected it to be, dude is too woke to contain it in a 6 minute video, and if he was better about describing what hes trying to come across people would be amazed im sure
Finlandia Singapur woke is just a more relative term for being aware of the world he is in, the industries and companies that make the most money, and distribution of the products said companies make, and their influences on cultures who are new to said ideas and inventions. Among many things. To each their own on his work, I think his work is fascinating and it only gets better with each new release. Very hard to recommend or get into on its own though. Definitely one of a kind.
i know he was stuttering a lot and struggling to word the last point he made there about commercial music being equivalent to shaman or cavemen around a fire (understandably, i wouldnt be able to word it any better myself), but i 100% understand exactly what he was thinking with that. he didnt say it properly, but i just know exactly what he meant, and hes right.
@@theone77443 haha yes i went through the same thing. i bet the dude felt really proud cuz so many requests for that. still appreciate it though i guess
@@sharkyplanet5317 @SharkyPlanet If you like Ferraro's lofi works id suggest you check out Savage Young Taterbug (shadow of the malboro man is a good start ) and any other artists on the night people label. If you're looking something similar to the intro song in this interview I don't have much clue, kind of reminds me of the soundtrack to an indie game called yume Nikki. Perhaps you could give me a rec, too? :-)
no no, more like warhol, in the sense that he sees no real division between high brow and low brow art. it's all just human, telling the story of humanity. there is no "trash" culture because we're all just living in eternity.
10 years ago only.. but how things changed lol anyway.. before I will die or something I want to see B2B interview between James Ferraro and Elon Musk, no lie. these 2 .
He's picked up a few contemporary works of important philosophy and misunderstood or at best had a really superficial understanding of them nothing wrong with that but he can barely form a clear sentence. That's not always so important but with work that's so explicitly narrative and conceptually driven. Throwing words around like shaman, hyperreality and to top it off Damien Hirst is sad to hear from somebody with so much "Avante Garde" clout. Just my opinion was let down
@@KidsSeeFantasmas its portrayed as Avante Garde and important but it's not thought out in any remarkable way and is just run of the mill postmodern irony. Can't really see anything else going on here. Am I missing anything?
Although he may be inarticulate I just let the music speak for itself. We can get lost in semantics but sometimes we should seperate the artist from the art and see how he brings his concepts into physical form.
Juan Ulysses Flores im with you im just not feeling his music. ItS rare that an artist has such a cocept driven work so i was expecting some real insight because i love the ideas he’s dealing with
The best globalist culture can provide us is homogenization around cheap mobile devices. Ferraro and the generation’s culture he represents is completely reprehensible and drained of meaning through-and-through. The mixture of those cultures he refers to is a shallow devaluation of each, which can amount to nothing higher than the inarticulate muck of his vanity. Ferraro’s style is itself degenerate, but what’s more shameful is that he is probably the most talented among the sub-men who comprise his culture. Without genuine development, it is a mixed history, mixed culture, mixed style, mixed race-absolutely worthless. You have nothing because you aspire to nothing, and therefore you are nothing.
@@ristevskiandrej yah never sure why i never did that before. i sent out a message to him on bandcamp. perhaps you should too, maybe that would get him to share.
