I'm so glad you guys reviewed this. Double oaks are absolutely some of my favorite bourbons, but even I was a little skeptical of the idea of a double double. How much of a good thing is too much? As an aside...Kurt, I've heard you mention a couple times bottles that you always replace once you finish one. I have some of those as well, WRDO being one. I think this would make an awesome show topic--Top 10 Bottles I Always Repurchase.
Yes, the idea of a permanent shelf would be fun to see. Roy @Aquavitae does that for scotch periodically.
Wild turkey 101 being number1 😂
The Starlight double oaked is no joke. Tried it on a whim and loved it. Plus its a few proof points higher then the Woodford so bonus points. Also Sagamore double oaked is my super jam
Would be great to see the Peerless double oak in that video as well. Would make a great elevated proof double oak video.
Sagamore DO punches way above its price point, its phenomenal
Sagamore double oak rye is awesome. Would love to see this on SLB.
Agree on all accounts
Yep. Double has to be one of the absolute best drams out there. Especially for the availability and price.
Love Woodford Double but it’s $70 locally. Lucky that I’m just a 25 min drive to Ohio where it’s $55 so usually pick one up when I’m across the river. Cheers SLB!
Great show guys! The standard Woodford DO is so good, when I have it I sometimes wonder why I bother with anything else. If it were more like 100 proof, it'd be perfect!
It’s a go to straight forward bourbon for me .
Just picked up a Double Oaked Store pick from Total Wine and More in Knoxville, TN. It’s a wonderful maple/brown sugar bourbon that’s going to be hard to put down.
Recently got a Sagamore DO. Tasting it after Stagg B18 made it tasle like I licked a tree, tasting on its own, gave me those sweet, marshmallowy vibes. I would give the Woodford DDO a try when you don't have something else next to it.
My Costco sells the Double Oaked and I have 2 at home, very good! I just bought the Teeling 15 yr to go along side the W.R, D.O!
You guys are awesome. I love the honesty in this and all your reviews. Keep up the great vids gentlemen!!!
Even before I was really “into” bourbon, double oaked was always a favorite. Interesting to see this Double Double release. Would be interested to try a pour, but don’t think I’d try to find a bottle
Woodford Reserve is what made me fall in love with bourbon. The Double Oaked version just increased that love for me. Such good products. Always on hand at my house.
I was pouring some samples to trade with a buddy when I found a spare WRDO bottle.. and it is a pick. I didn't realize they were uncommon now or I would have given him a sample of that since he also loves the WRDO. I forgot about it since it's behind my other two bottles of WRDO since I also keep at least 1 spare in the cabinet at all times. Now I really need to go open that pick up and try it out... the double double worried me but I have had some of their other distillery series before and they've been hit or miss but I like the experimentation. The four grain was great (wish I bought two) the five wood.. more was shared than I drank.
Great video guys. Woodford DO is a favorite of mine as well, so I was curious about the DDO version. I’d still like to try it, but you’ve saved me from my FOMO.
For now!!
Have you guys tried the Sagamore Double Oaked yet? That and the regular Woodford Double Oaked are my favorites, and its kind of funny too because the Sagamore hits me with such a strong vanilla flavor while the woodford hits me with a strong chocolate flavor. Love them both so much so I just decide if I'm in a vanilla or chocolate mood when I choose my pour.
Sagamore DO just edges out WRDO due to it's higher proof enhancing mouth feel, apart from that they're both excellent, WRDO is super drinkable too, more readily available in these parts. Going thru my first WRDO and will be replenishing this one for sure from here onwards! Yes, the WRDDO probably didn't get a fair review being compared to WRDO lolll , maybe put it in a blind at some point gents! Cheers!
I also love the Woodford Double Oaked, so I'm glad you saved me from picking up he double, double if I happened to run into it. Doesn't sound like an improvement over the Double Oaked. I have recently seen a couple of reviews of the 13th Colony Double Oaked and I would love to find a bottle of that. 9 years old and around 130 proof. It sounds spectacular.
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is my top favorite thusfar, so when I saw that the Double Double release was going to be out of my reach, of course that was a let down. So this breakdown of it with a comparison helps my FOMO some, thank you guys.
Great review as always boys! Woodford Double Oaked and OF 1910 are 2 of my favorite go-to bourbons….dessert in a glass every time! Cheers!
That OF 1910 is amazing
@@neilpowell1641 it sure is!
Yep I prefer the 1910 over the woodford do but both are amazing
@@joshmorgan838 I hear you!
❤ the OF 1910! 👍🏼
I was able to buy a local store pick here in Michigan last April of the Woodford double oaked. I need to replace that here soon. Great stuff
Believe it or not, I was able to snag one of these the same day you were able to. The stars aligned and I was nearby.
I cracked it open that night. I've had releases before that have been incredible, but this one didn't hit the usual mark for me. There was a pepper, butter, and funk taste that was leaning towards almost a savory bourbon, which made me raise eyebrows.
Don't give up on the DDO if you see them. They're different with each release! Great video gentlemen!
👊
I was there too! Wild
interesting that this video just came out. I just went to a small store and they had a barrel pick of woodford double oaked. In short, the intensity in the barrel was brought down a tad but stretched out the finish. I enjoyed it for sure
I had a double oaked single barrel pick last year I think. I bought 4 bottles and didn’t realize how good it would be. One of my absolute favorites.
One of my local bottle shops has a pick that they sell and it is great. It has some dark cherry notes that I love
I’m so glad y’all reviewed this! I watched it the day it came out then on vacation I saw the bottle and grabbed it. The double oak has become one of my top whiskeys. Which is high praise from me because I prefer scotch
I enjoy the Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. I have a Double Oaked store pick done by Bayway Liquors in NJ from 2021. Actually, forgot I had it. This video made me go check and there it was stoll unopened. Great work gentlemen.
Was so excited to get a pour of the double double while in Kentucky last year. It was a big letdown, I won't be chasing it. Now the Woodford Honey Barrel distillery release..? One of my all time faves
Thanks for the video. Just getting into the bourbon rabbit hole as I am a Gin drinker as my go to spirit. Starting with your bourbon starter list to expand my knowledge.
I love seeing the love for Woodford Double Oaked. I tried it early on and loved it, and have been trying as many other toasted barrel bourbons as I can. With it being so readily available, I expected the harder to find ones to top it easily. This was my first lesson in hard to find does not mean better. OF1910 is close, but I still have not found anything that I would consider to be clearly better than Woodford. ECTB was probably my biggest let down. I expected it to wow me, and it just didn't.
Since this video I had to go out and try that double Oakes, and the difference between double oaked and destillers select is night and day, wow…thoroughly enjoying that bottle
I just picked up a bottle of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked in NY $66.99 to included not much of a nose but great flavor. Kind of smells like alcohol & Elmer’s glue 🤪 th taste is absolutely delicious maple syrup, caramel & toffee blended together. I want waffles with this on
I have a total wine 2021 store pick of woodford double oak and it’s so damn good. All the flavors of the regular but just amplified and better
At the beginning of last year we found out we were having a baby boy. Headed to Total Wine in my city Jacksonville, FL to pick up something to celebrate with. They had a Double Oaked store pick. It’s as good as you think it is.
Would love to see the WDDO in a blind with Sagamore Double Oaked and Peerless Double Oaked. Great show guys.
Great comment. Peerless DO is my absolute favorite. Woodford DO is second.
Would like to see them review peerless anything. They make great stuff. Love the small batch
Sagamore Double Oak is a Rye whiskey and a very good one.
My thoughts exactly. Both are better than Woodford IMO.
I love the sherry cask finish
You’re right on the picks. We have WRDO barrel selects at our local Total Wine.
It's your videos like this one that give your subscribers confidence in your honesty.
Thank you for the review. My favorite of all time is the four roses small batch. Hope to see you guys review that this year 😊
I got a pick of double oaked a couple years ago from a store in Evansville. Gave it to a buddy for his 40th. I haven’t tried it yet, but he absolutely loves it.
Just a suggestion to get through that EC18 bottle. Make a 50/50 blend of the EC18 with ECBP C922. Makes quite a great combo. Ya get the proof of the ECBP and that old oak of the 18yr. Tames down a lot of that "too much bad oak" in the 18yr. I supposed you could use any ECBP for what it's worth. I just did mine with C922.
There are a ton of the double oaked picks around louisville so you should have no problem finding one next time you are in town.
WDO Barrel Pick’s are awesome. The one I found may have been my favorite bottle ever. Fond memories.
Just bought and tried Woodford double oaked...it's very very good. One of my new favorites
I always have the Woodford DO and Old Forster 1910 on hand and go back and forth between the two on which is my favorite. I've heard great things about the Lucky Seven DO Holiday Toast. Would love to see your take on it if you get your hands on one.
I couldn't agree more on the WDO and 1910. I was about to make the same comment. Cheers brother
Same here, both are great pours.
Awesome video!!!
Trent I'm like you don't like strong oaky bourbon. Maybe in the future do a video suggesting bourbons with light oaky notes. Thanks for all yawl do!!!
I too was able to get a couple bottles of the DD at the distillery a couple weeks ago. I LOVE it. To my amateur tongue it tastes like WRDO-light. Love the OF1910 too. Thanks you guys! 10:34
I'd like to see you guys compare OF 1910 and Woodford DO head to head. I like them both, but have settled on the 1910 as my go to (great tasting, usually available, and not unreasonably priced).
Agreed
Jack Daniels "Tennessee Tasters" distillery exclusive series has some pretty cool stuff in 375s too. Love Woodford DO. It's HARD to beat!
Woodford Double Oak is one of my all time favorites! You should try the Malt whiskey they have started making - it’s like a snickers in a bottle IMO.
Cool video idea for you all would be doing a whole lineup of Woodford Reserve (wheat, malt, rye, etc.)
a store near us had a pick of double oak last year, it was super sad to finish the bottle. still one of my all time favorite pours of all time
Was at the beautiful Woodford Reserve a couple years ago, and the double oak was definitely the standout. Although, I get a cognac note from it. Something I keep around all the time, too.
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked's my favorite go-to! I always have a backup bottle if not 2! Thank you guys for the awesome content.
Time stamp 0:35-Woodford Double Oaked is A+ to my palette. I can't imagine another that's better.
Just came across your channel. Love Woodford and the double is my daily go to favorite.
Woodford Reserve double oaked $64 out the door) is incredible I like it on ice or in an old fashioned. I would love to know what that double, double oaked tastes like but that's never going to happen, that's a unicorn bottle (upstate NY) if I ever saw one! Awesome review and 🥃Cheers!
Try Woodford’s double oaked rye if you see one at the distillery. They’re pretty good, worth trying.
Another great video. WRDO has been my go-to for several years. Just almost impossible to beat it though, around the same price point, OF 1910 and EC Toasted Barrell are worthy substitutes. BTW, Sam's Club in Champaign, IL had store picks a month or two ago for about $60 compared to $45 for the OG. Haven't been back to check in the last few weeks, but I will do so soon and confirm.
I did pick up a store pick of the Woodford in northern KY a year ago or so when visiting my parents. Just had a little yesterday in fact. Very good and quite different than the normal one. Not sure I thought it was better though.
Just purchased a bottle of Double oak. Here in Canada it cost me $75.00 cdn. Worth every penny.. best I've ever tasted.
I have to deal with state run stores in Bama so no "store picks". I've had standard Woodford but not the DO, but my local store keeps it on the shelf for $55. I think I'm going to try the 1910 first then try the WDO down the road.
Charlotte Bourbon Society was allocated 3 WDO barrel picks last year, at the same time. All 3 are very different. "CBS #3" is amazing -- like an Old Fashioned with a square of chocolate in a bottle...
I absolutely love the Woodford reserve double Oak. Has to be one of my current top three. Thanks for the side-by-side comparison.
I did a barrel pick at Woodford the first week of December it's going to be about 8 more weeks before we get our bottles
Woodford Reserve DO is our go to bourbon and one of the first bottles we got when starting our bourbon journey 🥃🥃 love the comparison.
Out here where I live there is a distillery that has a triple oak, and it is amazing
My Brother picked me up a bottle of the WDO, at the distillery, about five years ago. It was amazing, way better than any of the off the shelf bottles. It seemed much older, tobacco & leather flavors, that haven't found in any other bottles.
In a barrel, from a new barrel, re-barreled once again from the original barrel, and new/used white oak thingy...barrel... I think into that sloppy second's new/old double-knot barrel-barrel. From a new barrel. Of-course. Into the Whiskey Stratosphere!!! However......but??? Long time sub. Love you, guys. In case nobody noticed...I'm drinking - right now!
I love Woodford Double Oaked. One of my favorites. Love the show. Thank you!
Probably my favorite bourbon so far! I’ve been a bourbon guy for about 3 years now. Believe it or not I don’t really drink rye bourbons though. If I were to try some rye bourbons what are your recommendations??
Great job and nice review. The Woodford Double is one of my favs as well. Hard to compare against as well.
I know this is a old video but I got a total wine barrel pick the other day. And yes it's so good
I have a pick of WRDO from Total Wine. It’s outstanding. I agree with the comment that suggested doing a video of bottles you will always replace, because WRDO is definitely one of mine.
Good knowledge share. Much appreciated.
Like many others here, Woodford Reserve DO is my favorite bourbon that’s always available on the shelf. I’ve tried a lot of other double barreled and toasted bourbons, but nothing tops it so far. I’ve just ordered a 2XO bottle (Dixon Deadman), so that’s the next contender. And I’ve never tasted Michter’s Toasted.
Their classic double oaked is one of my top 5 favorite bourbons because of how sweet and smooth it is.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Soooooo, you know at this rate you'll hit 200K end of August/first of September. Right? Love love love the. channel. Thank you so much for all you do. Cheers!.
Woodford Reserve DO is one of my absolute favs! Great comparison guys. Another example where rare or limited does not necessarily means better.
I also love the Double Oak products, I’ve tried both and I would buy the 375 again because of the “limited” availability. Thanks for putting this out there for us.
Always keep the Woodford double oak on the shelf. It’s not always my favorite for taste, but always for the nose. Just the nose itself will add 15 minutes of enjoyment to a pour.
Another great video wish I lived closer to Kentucky! Lol idea for a possible Super Bowl video review terry bradshaws bourbon, thanks for everything
Woodford Reserve Double Oaked is my second favorite bourbon, so I'm glad to see this. I won't be able to get the double double - I can only afford the Double Oaked by the pint - but I sure wish I could taste it. I'm sure there's a whisky out there that has too much oak for me, but I've not yet met it. 🙂
Thanks for the review, I was curious about the double double. I did find a store pick of the double oak at the local Sam’s Club in Merrillville, but haven’t opened it yet.
Sagamore double oaked rye is legitimate and so is the Starlight double oaked rye. My favorite doubled oaked bourbon is the
Woodford and 1910… didn’t care for the EC double oaked…
Thanks for the review
If you can grab it, get a lucky 7 holiday toast as it is double oak. Very great and complex drink.
Just paid 60 for Woodford dbl oak yesterday for $60
It has been out of stock for months
Hate the price increase but love the juice
Great comparison and analysis thanks!
I’m late to the party but I wanted to offer a suggestion: try Sagamore Double Oaked Rye! It’s a Baltimore distillery and they’re offering is dope! It’s readily available for ~$65 and is amazing! Love your videos and watch so often I feel like we’re drinking buddies!
That is an amazing rye!
Peerless double oak is my favorite double oak I’ve had so far, it’s AMAZING. The only better one I’ve had was the Jefferson’s Presidential Select 16, but those are big $$$$
I liked the video where you had Old Forester 1910 vs Woodford Reserve and found they were pretty well even....At a family reunion in April, my cousin will be bringing Woodford and I'm going to bring the Old Forester 1910. We will do a review then.
I only buy the Woodford Double Oaked, I love it. And I really like watching these guys.
I have the 2022 EC18 and it is wonderful.
I’m a huge Woodford Double Oaked fan. Good show guys!
Another honest and thoughtful review. Love you guys 👊
You guys should include the 1910 Extra Extra Old 117 Series. It's Old Forester 1910 finished in a heavily charred second barrel for an extra 2 years.
I've gotta put in a vote for Sagamore Double. So amazingly complex!
Great comparison. It’s always hard to beat the favorites.
The WRDO is near the top of my list as well, WR is my daily drinker .
I really enjoy your channel, it’s my go to for information about bourbon. It would be really helpful if you could start giving the mash bill for bourbon to taste. I know some marshmallows aren’t available. Thank you and keep on making videos
Hard to beat WR DO. Thanks for the honest and respectful reviews!
I just got a store pick of the doubled oaked it's spectacular
Need to try the 13th Colony DO!!
I’ve had a WR double oak store pick and it blew it out of the water. It was Red Dot in Frankfort Kentucky
Sadly in my area the D Oak is really creeping up in price several stores are now asking over 60 dollars for it which is beginning to get ridiculous. I have seen it priced here and there for as much as 70 as well. The price gouging is real
Y’all should do a blind test of one of the best $20-$25 bottle vs $30-$35 vs $40-$45 and so on and so forth to see which one y’all prefer regardless of pricing
