No, Trower was a "hired hand" here - greatly restrained himself, TASTEFULLY playing behind Ferry, just adding a little mystery and power to the mix, without blasting Ferry off the stage...
@@marktulk4225 Exactly, I really wanted to hear Trower light it up on that last lead part and I know he could but restrained a lot by TV. He probably just used this experience to get in the spotlight again which was much deserved while guys like Clapton were still making millions on the radio.
ROBIN TROWER - GUITAR MASTER. Shame on mainstream media for never giving him his due in the spotlight. The man is a genius and a wonderfully humble gentleman still going strong and putting out top quality music at age 77 while his peers have all fallen by the wayside creatively.
He is a master, and merges beautifully with other musicians. I particularly liked the recent story of how he met Maxi Priest and the outcome of this union the ' United State of Mind' album.
If you never heard Robin Trower, you've never heard the guitar being bent. This guy has so much talent and soul. He makes the guitar sing. Anyone who calls themself a guitar player HAS to have Trower on their playlist. Listen to the soulful sounds come forth from his Fender. It is mind-blowing. I have listened to his music for 37 years. It is timeless. Kudos Robin...and those who are fans. How can ANYONE give this a thumbs down? 1 second ago•
Nothing could beat this: Robin Trower in a state of constant tremolo feedback, highlighted by the greatest one-note guitar solo in history! No one sings this song better than Bryan Ferry. The rhythm guitar and bass are to die for.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure Screamin' Jay Hawkins was like: "Holy shit Bryan Ferry basically just invalidated my whole career with this cover. I also wrote the lyrics in vain. The song really doesn't need them at all."
In the case of this video he was using a small device called E-bow in his right hand. This device is positioned on a string and causes it to produce virtually infinite sustain and feedback, even at low volumes. It's really cool to use and to get other sounds too. Trower normally does this, as well as others, in a more natural way using the gain of high volume amplifiers.

I visited Trower's home a number of years back and one of my abiding memories was a bookshelf of Bryan Ferry CDs, still wrapped in plastic and unopened. Presumably sent by the record company.
Bryan Ferry & Robin Trower together - wow! Ferry has such a seductive voice & compelling stage presence (can't believe Jerry Hall dumped him for Jagger!)
And then for that awful, awful baldy geriatric Murdock, $$$ might have something to do with it? Imagine what his children are like and what thought of her! Prenup! If she had any decency she should have stayed with Mr Ferry and enjoyed a much happier life but perhaps not the super rich non tax paying life style of Murdock or the philandering Jagger. She became pissed of with jagger as he would never stay in one place too long to avoid tax liabilities, nice to have held a dozen homes around the world but difficult for the children.
Oh my effing God, I've only just found this, talent to be admired, each and every one of them Ferry , what an incredibly great voice , Robin what a player but all of them, some of the best session players on the planet, i can listen to this over and over again, luv it.
Roger Moore is known as an actor who is not great at acting. Ferry fronted the most influential British band of the 1970s, Roxy Music .....with David Bowie, of course. The two toured together in 1973 and loved each others' work Great stuff, wor Bryan.
Nearing the end of my freshman year in H.S., we were driving around at lunch indulging in what you would guess someone that was about to become a lifelong Robin Trower fan would be indulging in back in 1974, when my buddy Joel stuck in the 'Bridge of Sighs' 8 track tape. 'Day of the Eagle' came ripping through the speakers and I was done. Just blown away. Album after tone laden album accompanied me throughout my youth and into adulthood. Trower had a sound and a command of sustain that was unmatched at the time and with James on vocals they were just the shit. In 4 months, I will be a Trower fan for 45 years and that puts him in some pretty exclusive company with bands like the Beatles, Purple, Sabbath and Floyd, to name a few. Killer music is lifelong. Trower is forever, R.I.P. James and long live rock and roll.
I had similar moment when Purple Haze came on radio (I"m older, eh?). Tho Robin can have Hendrixy feel, he is his own man & I too love his playing & Day of the Eagle hit me too... Alright! We've got something here!
we all played Hendrix licks..who wouldn't?! but Robin had this great killer tone & attack & Rolling Stone mag started calling him a "Jimi copycat"..Robin has always been exceptional, doing his music with Jim Dewer,Jack Bruce,Davey,Bill Lordan. He's still playing great 5 decades later. The truth is that even Hendrix couldn't copy Robin's style & nuances-everybody, please quit comparing players, aye?
Robin Trower Bryan Ferry two of the worlds greatest artist that I’ve had a chance to see so thankful brilliant love their music we love their music here in Costa Mesa thank you
Yes, that bass player is Nathan East one of the ultimate go-to bassists, with the likes of Eric Clapton, Phil Collins and so, so many others calling upon his services. If he's happy, you know the groove is good. But there is more to it than just him. The drummer is Steve Ferrone (Average White Band, Chaka Khan, Clapton, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers etc.), the keyboardist is one of the absolute best, Greg Phillinganes, the rhythm player (notice his smile during that one-note guitar solo) is the late, great David Williams, and Robin Trower (Procol Harum, solo legend, and producer of Ferry's albums at the time) is so effective on the ambient guitar stuff.
Brian Ferry is a classy, virtuoso vocal crooner and Robin Trower, (though I love his blues), is I think often at his best when tastefully adding his art - out of the spotlight, as a complimentary accompanist, as he did with Procol Harum, and as he is doing here...with his tasteful playing, he becomes the whole band!...Exceptional!!! I think Screamin' Jay would approve!
First time I've heard this. Sounds great, timeless. 1993 was such a monumental time in music history that this wouldn't have got much bandwidth as so much was going on. But that band is tight and the songs are interpreted in a great way.

Here, he tones it way down to contribute a smooth texture that compliments Ferry's vocals and contrasts with the polyrhythms created by his bandmates. What's for afters?, thanks for posting. This really enhances my already considerable appreciation of Trower.
YouzTube99 My pleasure! Obviously someone who knows Mr. Trower's output quite well. Your note of appreciation is gratefully received. Happy holidays, and thanks for stopping by!

I wasn't disappointed and I would see him again tomorrow....sooner if I was wealthy...
I agree i think his best displays are on the James Dewar fronted albums like Bridge of Sighs, For Earth Below, 20th Century Blues etc. The man seems to be an unknown legend these days.

Two great songs advanced by Ferry! Trower was honored, I’m sure! 💖
He is a master, and merges beautifully with other musicians. I particularly liked the recent story of how he met Maxi Priest and the outcome of this union the ' United State of Mind' album.
"Daydream" from his live album is an under appreciated gem of guitar wizardry.
Not a shame at all! He got to add his special talent to an awesome band and excellent music.
Robin Trower Maestro, Genius may we forever have him!!!!!
Nobody but NOBODY makes groove music like Bryan Ferry.
Yeah, if you like NASAL, and remarkably- consistently 1/8th step FLAT vocals... he's your man. ( - er...your "ferry" )

Only Robin Trower can do a lead break with one note and get away with it. awesome.
I saw Frusciante get away with it beautifully once, too.
jaycbee98 Lou Reed would do that, too.
Robert Fripp on Heroes
Gilmour could also get away y with it I think...Trower has a 3D guitar sound, phenomenal...must see him live to experience it...
