This 1993 performance has to be one of his best, this man has been one of my musical inspirations since i was a teenager in the early 80's. The compositions on this CD were so deep and spiritual. Its now a classic. Hats off to Branford Marsalis and the Band as well, they were all awesome. This was when Jay Leno had just taken over the Tonight Show.
Lovely comment, I totally feel the same. This song does some very funny things to my insides. Sting could put it better 😂 I just love ten sumners tale’s. He’s too good for ME! ❤️❤️❤️
7:14 - Oh Sting.!! Where have I BEEN all this time?? Why is it JUST NOW that I'm hearing this song for the first time (though I've Heard it MANY times before)... Only Just now "hearing" it! ******* Wedding song.
Maybe the strongest 2 songs ever to be played on a television show. Amazing band. Sting in his absolute prime. Yep For me it is the highest level of music. As good as it gets. Wow….
In Japan, a song that everyone can sing at karaoke becomes popular. But in the rest of the world a song no armature singer can sing but only the professional can become popular. Both trends are understandable and make sense 😊👍
The sonics are very good in this video -- I guess we have television to thank for that. I have always been a huge fan of Sting's. I love his music and his voice and his musical taste. Sting and Joni Mitchell -- my two favorites.
This song is difficult to sing, "lose" and "left" are difficult, but If I sing it together with him, I manage to. Wonderful! and wonderful live performance
One thing that I love the most about Sting is how he manages to sound more or less the same in his live performances. Like what the fuck man!?! His voice is so amazing and his capacity to perform all of his songs at the same level in the studio or live is just mind-breaking!
If I ever lose my faith? I doubt it. I think he wrote it about himself, personally. He’s famously tight lipped about what or whom it’s about! Inspired lyrics as always. His lyrics are incredible and in so many songs are so appropriate ❤️
I heard Sting say in one of his rare interviews he doesn’t have a detailed or specific meaning for his songs. He leaves the songs to his audience to make them their own. Many great musicians do the same, Chris Cornell said the same thing more or less. Cornell said he likes to create lyrical atmospheres meant to be interpreted by the audience as they see fit. Music is the soundtrack to our lives and create snapshots in our minds of feelings, people, places and emotions. By the way, Branford Marsalis is perfect in both performances here!
Well, he’s shaming all us guys, so we’re sulking out here, and the women were already speechless when he walked in, so there’s pretty much no one left to comment. 🤷🏼♂️
Thank you for loading these two outstanding performances. Sting always makes the live version better than the original. And what can you say about Marsalis. He’s like a New Orleans master chef who adds the perfect spices and ingredients to enhance the delicious gumbo. Always a big treat.
This is why he is a legend !! I'm 73 and listened to music from my youth in the 50's to the present, don't ask me how bad the music is now days, the kids because of the lack of musical training in school don't know what real music is, unless they watch old videos from the past, they have this crap called music shoved down their throat's by music companies. How sad is that.
The bright side is, check out jacob collier, Thunder Cat, Ronald Bruner, JD Beck and Domi, Becca Stephens, Jules Buckley, Daniel Caesar, Tori Kelly, Taylor McFerrin, Robert Glasper, Terrace Martin, Derrick Hodge, Haitus Kaiyote and Cory Henry and The Funk Apostles and watch every one of them not only carry on the torch but push the envelope, blowing the minds of their Idols and legends. There is an unbelievable amount of incredible artists and musicians today, that’s the truth.
I have seen two videos of Sting perform this song - If I Ever Lose My Faith In You. Both videos never show him playing the rapid portion of the cool base line.
I love this song. A great performance. Funny thing - Branford Marsalis, with his signature fills, makes this song feel very much like Englishman in New York. BTW, was that a wrong note on the guitar at 3.44?
@@ikshields not sure why that’s in parentheses 😂, but yeah, it’s Josh killing with the band. I wasn’t talking about with Sting, I was talking about Joshua Redman, who’s 2 feet in front of the camera for the first 10 seconds of this video, killing with the band. Wasn’t talking about Marsalis.
For a while Sting had Branford Marsalis as a backing musician. Let that sink in for a minute.
that exp!aind why the sax player was a 1 man murderers row
Saw him 3 times with that lineup
I love your comment,Brandford Marsalis💯💥!
And David Sancious, Omar Hakim, Daryll Jones, Vinnie Coulatta and Kenny Kirkland
RIGHT?!!! He hds Baby Coltrane in his band. Wow. Sting forever have GREATS in his bands.

Incredible composition. Those chord progressions are genius. Great band of musicians he assembled also
What an absolute legend. One of the best artists/musicians ever.
And that is a “puffy shirt”. One of Sting’s best tunes.
Not sure 🤔 what Jerry Seinfeld was worried 😟 about! Haha 😆
Truly
They’re making *these*?
Lovely shirt !!!
ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS EVER WRITTEN & RECORDED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Sting, Dominic, David, Vinne and BRANFORD Marsalis . K.i.l.l.e.r! The best song of the 90s. [that guitar riff ... Dominic AmazingMiller]
Outstanding drum work by the great Vinnie Colaiuta.
Félix Rousseau Vinnie is one of the best percussionist, you ve got to admire his talents.
Seems effortless but very difficult to play. Same thing in song "Epilogue" at the same album.
Tight as a fish's bum.
Man. Vinnie is untouchable.
I'm glad Sting "borrowed" Branford Marsalis from the Tonight Show... what a great performance of these two incredible songs.
I like the variety of Sting's music. But he always sounds best with a breeze of Jazz.
My brother recorded Sting at his company party several years ago in Fla. Mind blowing. Dominic Miller nailed it.
He has those eyes with such a mesmerizing look...
Sting must have more songs than anyone else on UA-cam including the Beatles!
Marsalis wonderful, He gave it a fine sense of balance.
Sting’s apex. What an artist.
Love the jazz feel to the song.
Branford Marsalis applied that jazz to the song
Which song? He did 2..
Two of my fav sting songs.. pure talent, such a great time for music back then. Sting was on 🔥
Fields of gold most beautiful song.
There's no such thing as the most beautiful song, however beautiful it might be
For sure .... I agree !!!
What a great performance
What a great time for music during the magical 90's.
Beautiful songs..! Sting is a great composer and singer!
Fields of Gold, it always makes a stubborn tear running from my eyes.
A young Dominic Miller! What a great guitar player.
7:14 - Oh Sting.!! Where have I BEEN all this time?? Why is it JUST NOW that I'm hearing this song for the first time (though I've Heard it MANY times before)... Only Just now "hearing" it!
*******
Wedding song.
The best ever!! Even while wearing the pirate shirt (puffy shirt) from Seinfeld. "But I don't want to be a pirate!!!"
Yes! One of Sting's Best. This is song is so boss!
2 of the best 90s decade songs absolutely marvellous!
Still performing and being great!
Cheers...
Maybe the strongest 2 songs ever to be played on a television show. Amazing band. Sting in his absolute prime.
Yep For me it is the highest level of music. As good as it gets. Wow….
the sax guy is OWNING This one!!! whole nother m.f. level! 😀
No surprise there. Branford Marsalis of course.
And listen to him on Englishman in New York. He owns that too
This is the best set Vinnie ever had IMHO.. that cage, those splashes, cymbal positions, and the Yamaha sound
He's had many completely stellar performances both live and on record. He really shines in the studio.
A consummate professional.
Saw him live last year he was great
9:18 when sting approve your skill... awesome
My two favorite musics from ten.
Where to start. Handsome sting.
Young Dominic miller. Vinnie the killer drummer.. the clarinet player. Awesome bass. Damn.
I love him so much! This is my all time favourite song, ever! ❤️
Perfect presentation
Unreal performance:)
Esa banda con David Sancious, Brandford y el infaltable Dominic, es garantía de buena música. Grande Sting 🎸
The harmony singing is money. Totally pro, on pitch and no stupid auto tune. Righteous.
the great drummer Vinnie Colaiuta !
Living legend
Superb drummer
Absolutely one of the Best.
FAITH IN ALMIGHTY GOD. 🙏🙏🙏
Amazing voice.I love Sting:)
Maria conda great singer
A sure thing as an artist .
Sting is almost 42 years old here!
eh...compared to how he looks NOW, he looks REALLY young here. He started aging really fast after about 2010 or so.
@@ct92404 Sting still looks great
Красавчик 100%
Immediately and upon hearing this pair of songs back in the early nineties, I LOVED them. What’s not to like?
Miracle composition.
Love Sting🎼🎵🎶🎹🎹🎷🎺

My man Sting.. I love everything about these beautiful performances! Except that shirt.. lol.. But i'll forgive him!
drumsNstuff79
He was in some medieval phase during this time haha, the clothing, style, even that Castle on the ten summoners tales cover
Dude, we’re both just jealous we can’t pull the look off like he does, and you know it. 😆😩

Nice Performance.
I like to play bass to these songs its fun to kick em around add some here takeaway some there
Monster musicians. ❤

and thirty years later he's still doing it - maybe a key or two lower, but still the same tone!
Makes sense...Holy cow, I had forgotten!
That was brilliant
Sting é um mito da música internacional.
It's a great artist who sings his great song exactly the way we all know it should sound.
Hot damn sounds just like the record
Life is not fair without faith

Absolute quality.
I know we are all here for the same reason, we love Sting. However, I can't believe no one has commented on the puffy pirate shirt.
Well, he’s shaming all us guys, so we’re sulking out here, and the women were already speechless when he walked in, so there’s pretty much no one left to comment. 🤷🏼♂️
All so good. BUT. Marsalis hitting the key change at 3:05 was some slick $hit
Sounds even better live.
Love the guy on the kazoo
Cloths of a saint make heavens change perfect
The piano player David Sancious also played with numerous other musicians. Very innovated with his piano.
Sting The King. ❤❤❤
Как прекрасно что есть перевод спасибо,мне нравится слушать .
Nice😊😊
Absolutely amazing. Hellova set, too!

You're most welcome! Thanks for taking the time to post a note of appreciation ;-)
Absolutely love the songs, hate the shirt. lol
Amazing album, perhaps his best artistic offering.
Sting came from swashbuckling with pirates before the gig.
You are so wrong
😆 🤣
Hey, if you can pull it off…👍🏻
He would look gorgeous in anything
Makes me feel good 👍
Man o man
Que buena Music
De un grande de grande como
Sting....🙂👍
This song is incredibly hard to sing. He does it almost perfectly, while playing the bass and in a ridiculous shirt.
F*ck the shirt..focus on the great music and performance..
What was Jerry Seinfeld worried about anyways! Haha 😆
@@Kidgloves1984 Not every man can get away with wearing a shirt like that--only Sting and Justin Hayward!@
Pirate shirt!
Love it
So goooood
As allways
My respect
Regg from Cro.
Impeccable
"But I don't want to be a pirate!"
"Unfortunately, Sting, we think you can pull this off and make the pirate shirt work unlike that Seinfeld fellow."
Legend.
Vinnie C at the drums !

Sting WANTED to be the pirate
Voice was a little raspy but got through it. You rock Sting
I like Branford Marsailas tooting away here. Sting voice is more raspy and flat here in song one. Always good thiugh....
"I don't wanna be a pirate!" You'll wear that puffy pirate shirt and like it.
anyone recognizing mr. joshua redman at the beginning? ;-)
Joshua Redman killing with the band
(That’s Branford, not Josh)
@@ikshields not sure why that’s in parentheses 😂, but yeah, it’s Josh killing with the band.
