    Excellent Review...I bought this RTR about 9 days ago and the price was $449. My DIG servo failed, so I bought a new servo, but also, HH will be sending me a new servo anyways, so I'll use it as a spare, or to activate the 2 speed transmission after I get a new transmitter, but that's low priority for now. I have a scale RC jeep that has the HW1080 and programming card, so I'll use that for this RTR as well. Overall I like it a lot, and my nieces and nephews are having fun with it. In addition, I own a real jeep and took this RC jeep on one of our club meet ups, and the club members (especially the kids) had so much fun with this.

    I took out my original SCX10 the other day and let me tell you I never knew how good the first one was until I ran this new SCX10 III. The original SCX10 is quiet and smooth. To be honest, I bought the III because it's an Axial and for the new Jeep body. If you are looking at this video to decide what RTR crawler to buy, the TRX4 is still the best!!!

    I’ve had mine for a few weeks now and once I tweaked it a bit the thing is fun. I have a pretty nasty rock pile that I run on and it handles pretty decent for an RTR. The dig servo (sx107)is junk and haven’t been able to use that function yet at all. It’s got some really low gears and it’s really smooth on the low speed crawls.

    I just got this unit a few days ago. It’s working great. ( right now ). Besides the annoying clicking in the transmission/ transfer case. I like it. As with all my rtr RC’s I always upgrade them. Is it worth $500 out of the box? Nope more like $375-425 range and that’s pushing it. But as for the unit in general. It pretty much depends on who built them at the factory that day/ week. Some are duds and some are as they should be. But that’s the risk we all take when buying RTR RC’s. Thank you for the reviews even if they’re brutally honest at times.

    I got mine today TOO!
    (& I removed ALL the junky horror-izon electronics), put n a HW1080, 35t rebuildable motor, set the esc at 6 volts to not smoke the junky dig servo. Upon turning it on, ALL the magical blue smoke escapes the (junky) dig servo. After replacing that with an emax, it works great! .
    NOT mine, for the fiancee.

    Great review Francis (sp?) As always! My number one source for honest unbiased reviews! I also would like to say even on most of the negative reviews you've done you have tried to modify/upgrade and show us the outcome. I think that's a GREAT aspect I dont think anyone else does, at least not with the sole purposes as to inform us. And I think that adds a invaluable perspective to the decision process, you show well this this n that ...isn't that well, but if you do this this and that....you can expect similar results as this. That was the tipping on my decision about the great trx4 sport/redcat gen8 dilemma!
    I'd like to thank you for all the work and effort you put forth to produce these videos it's much appreciated!
    I also like seeing you just get out n crawl/play with your rigs! And your recent addition of the family is great to see, your son is already perty skilled driver! I'm sorry I'm terrible with names mean no offense lol.

      Lol he has done a LOT of RC reviews. Not just rigs, tires servos, radios. AND he buys his stuff so he isnt pressured into giving them a break. My #1 guy for RC reviews!
      I started out in the hobby with the redcat gen7 sport, and ole dirty bi@tch will always have a special place in my heart when it came time to upgrade the redcat gen8 had JUST came out. As a company I love redcat but I was leery about the dependability and durability.
      I was torn between it and the Traxxas trx4 sport because of RC reviews reviews on the two I went with the trx4 sport SO glad I did! Lil red is a goat n I've beat the tar outta him and haven't broken ANYTHING.
      All I did was throw on a pair of Duratrax deepwoods tires...just because, a cheapo Amazon servo, 20$ and added a custom paint job. GREAT rig, only problem is it's a HARD show to follow lol
      The scx10 III rtr, besides looks hasn't knocked it off the #1 spot.

    So without the additional servo how do you engage the two speed transmission exactly? I bought one of these units about three days ago, And have been using it strictly to rock crawl so to be honest I really haven’t had any need to go fast. After doing research I realized that it did have a two speed transmission after a couple of reviews on UA-cam said it did not. Also I remedied the left turn issue by shortening the tie rod from the servo all the way and then playing with the steering trim. What I have noticed is when I use the dig feature sometimes on disengage and the rear wheels are free spinning and not locked in at all. The truck gets a drug by strictly the front wheels, Until you toggle forward reverse a couple of times then they engage again. To be honest for 500 bucks I am having a blast with this thing and it is super capable....imo It’s worth the money!

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  4 роки тому

      To use the 2-speed transmission without buying additional parts, one has to move the servo from the DIG unit and not use the DIG at all. It's either DIG or 2-speed with stock electronics. Worthy of an experiment to see what is more useful.
      The advantage of 2-speed is one can put really low gearing for crawling but still achieve the desired high speed for trailing.

    • @Jrod_FPV
      @Jrod_FPV 4 роки тому

      Gilbert Garcia I have this ESC and it's actually a great ESC and form factor if you plan on running Spektrum and brushed. Otherwise it's an extra ~$40 to buy the other component if you want to change. To me it's perfect for the RTR because most that buy RTR understand they're paying a little extra so they don't have to build it and usually throw away some components anyway.

    • @gilbertgarcia4042
      @gilbertgarcia4042 4 роки тому +3

      @@Jrod_FPV I understand it's not bad for you but in my case I see it as you can't upgrade a simple thing like jest your transmitter and receiver without you having to remove the esc also.

    • @Jrod_FPV
      @Jrod_FPV 4 роки тому

      Gilbert Garcia yeah that's the one situation that you'll have to spend the extra $40 on a new ESC. But you also paid for the RTR transmitter that you planned on not using... So maybe sell it and put that money towards the new ESC? I just don't see the 2 in 1 as a huge setback when comparing an extra $40 to paying the extra for RTR in the first place. Maybe horizon/ Spektrum will make stand alone ESC in the future since this one works so well.

    • @gilbertgarcia4042

      I don't know but if Traxxas with there TRX4 line up and Redcat gen 8 AXE can make them at or around $500 I think Axial SCX 10 lll could do a little better. The esc receiver combo could work fine but for only that reason I would not buy one. I would buy the kit if they make one. Let me know. Thanks.

    • @stpbasss3773
      @stpbasss3773 4 роки тому

      @@Jrod_FPVmakes no sense to have a 4 channel system with a 3 channel transmitter. So how do you justify the RTR coming with no option to switch gears or even use the dig because it burns out right away?? Do you have some reason why the RTR is 500 without the ability to use the 2 speed transmission? Seems like horizon hobby just cut corners again and screwed this RTR up.

    • @RCReviewChannel
      @RCReviewChannel  4 роки тому +1

      Yes, about 8mm. The axles don't really do it but since the shocks are mounted about 8mm higher (center of the axle), the whole chassis is raised. Designers usually have to make adjustments to counter this.
      In this case though, the body and the motor are the culprit. So high and heavy.

    Make the DIG and the 2-speed transmission 'upgrades' for the buyer to later install and price it closer to $400 and I'll be interested. I had chronic issues with the DIG in my Axial RTR Capra to the point where I ultimately pulled the plug on the DIG's servo and zip-tied the transmission in constant 4WD. Multi-speed transmissions in RCs are a superfluous gimmick for people who like gimmicks. If a 5,000-lb Tesla 'S' can go 0 to 125mph without a multi-speed transmission I see no reason a 7-lb RC truck needs different.

      Douglas Elliott I don't know man... you must have a different experience than me because 2 speeds are great for me. They offer a ton of control for crawling around 0.5mph. and also offer a fast cruising speed and is great for donuts.
      And I think it's hard to compare a Tesla and an rc toy with a brushed motor. Plus Tesla's don't crawl over obstacles taller than itself like my trucks do.

    For $500 the damn thing should be able to make a left turn. That's all I have to say about it.

    I waited on this when it was introduced as a kit. But ended up spending my money on a TRX4 Bronco. Glad I did.
    Don't get me wrong , I love my scx10ii and my Wraith but this new 3 just doesn't do it for me. For the money there is better stuff out there.

    Very good review! Isn't the price a bit unreasonable and outdated at this time? 150 bucks on top of an Sendero, 200 on top of an gen8. I bought the SCX10 Chevy Blazer for 300 Bucks. With this much to upgrade and such strong competitors i hoped for a more competitive price setting this time -.-

      Very, very true. The price and the late factor does not do it any favors.

    We dont think it worth the money because it cant compete with a TRX4 Sport out on our trails.The truck ist to top heavy.Even i dont like one piece axels.i have to change the complete tube axel if a c hub break.
