Something that is a huge part of the book that they completely cut from the show is that Anthony has this obsessive belief that he will never be older than his father, and that he will die before he reaches the age his father was when he died. That's another part of why Anthony doesn't want to fall in love, because he is convinced he will leave his wife and children in the state him, his mother, and his siblings were in when Edmund died. They do bring it up a bit in the scene between Anthony and Violet at Edmund's grave when he talks about waiting to be "untouched by the ravages of grief."
I’m so glad someone finally mentioned Zuff’s blanket because every time I see it I die a little 😂😂😂 Also.. Hyacinth was named after the flowers Edmund was picking for Violet right before he died.
In the books, Hyacinths are Edmonds favorite flowers… later on the show they will say something else is… I think lilacs or something. It’s definitely a mistake.
Hey Rob, remember in the first few episodes when you thought Anthony was the villain and made a point of saying how much you disliked him every chance you got? 😂 I think it's a testament to how good this show is that the characters are not one dimensional and that our feelings about them change as we learn more of their layers.
Not only Kate and Anthony love each other, they really have the personality to support one another. I think with Edwina, Anthony would be what he has been to his family. With Kate i think he feels allow to be vulnerable and understood really.
What I love about the bee scene with Kate is that she had no context for why Anthony was so upset. She could have mocked him for being so scared of a bee, but instead she took him and his fear seriously and her instinct was to comfort him. I absolutely love you guys genuinely reacting and enjoying the show!
zuff mocking anthony’s laugh and robs face , followed by bryce’s smile when the grave was shown after saying “i’ve got a boner, i’ve got a boner the games over” took me out at work today LMAOA💀💀
As someone who experiences panic attacks-Jonathan really portrayed Anthony’s so accurately and with such care. I’ve really loved how we’ve been focusing on mental health this season!
10:22 ayo guys....the reactions tho !! you guys really love Daphne and your reactions to baby Augie are so precious. Literally like three uncles meeting their lovely nephew after a very long time.
There are so many moments in this episode that confirm how good they would be together but it is always that last scene that clinches it for me. That Kate is gentle, almost tender with Anthony when she realizes that he is truly in distress makes me believe they are perfect for each other even more than the bickering and the chemistry.
Info about the bee/edmund's allergy: In the books it's explained that he had previously been stung by a bee and had no reaction to it (this can happen with bee allergies) and so he didn't think he needed to be careful around bees. Also you were right he is young I'm pretty sure he was 38 when he died.
Benedict being high was adorable and hilarious. Him, Eloise, and Colin are easily the fun ones and would be so fun hanging out with them. Learning more about Anthony was good and so heartbreaking at the same time. Honestly therapy shouldve been a thing long before now. Especially those dealing with losing a loved one.
I don’t know if you guys remember but at the end of season 1 the last scene there was a bee on a windowsill. A lot of book fans took that as a clue and Easter egg that season 2 was going to be about Anthony due to the death of his dad being a bee sting and how much that affected Anthony and the role he had to take on as the Viscount. Excited to see the reaction of you guys watching the rest of the season!
This season has some fantastic episodes, but this might be my favorite. I loved getting flashbacks showing how Anthony became the way he is now. Also, that last scene with Kate and Anthony was done so well and was so tension filled. Those two are really something else.
Simon's trauma came from hate and rejection which made he believe not being worth of love while Anthony's came from love, love and hurt being tight up because he experienced it. but they both refuse to be happy .
@@KatBee00 i know, but i mean a hint, which episode, or you can at least say who is it about💀 it's that i didn't know bridgerton was famous for that single scene, i always thought it was because of the show as a whole. I can't think of a scene rn, a lot seem pretty good not one specifically
I have to say that this is probably my all time favorite tv show reaction out of all the channels. Watching you three guys enjoying and investing in this show is so much fun. So many of us wanted to tell you to hold off on judging Anthony too harshly but didn't want to spoil his character development. I love how they make both sisters so likeable, which just makes Anthony's choice more difficult.
Also something to note is that Anthony was only 18 when his father died and immediately became thrust into the Viscount role. He was still so young and didn't have time to actually process what had happened.
I recommend you watch “The Great” for your next show.. it has this show’s kinda vibe and I feel like you three will genuinely enjoy it! It’s the perfect mix of comedy, suspense, and dark.
I really love the second season because we truly get to understand anthony as a character, in the first season a lot of people found him to be "bad" or not caring because of the whole daphne situation but we can see that it is because he was pushed to be the man of the house right after his father died and even when he made a lot of mistakes he did it thinking about his family and the way the man of the house "should" act.
This is my top episode pick of the entire season. It's so well done, the heartache of Edmunds story and the reveal of just how passionately Anthony feels for Kate at the end.
A lot of ppl hate on the mom for how she acted on grief. But i get it. I can’t imagine how recently after her husband’s death the doctors won’t fucking listen to her during birth and put her and her baby’s life choice on her son. Like???? The rage and grief would turn to 10000000x. Which is just sad. Wanting to die like, book depression she felt. Her trying her best like she said was feeding herself and waking up. At the end, i know she had to be a mom. But she’s a person outside being a mom too and she just couldn’t do it. Postpartum plus grief is just a killer.
Being rich with servants, I’m sure a groom or groundskeeper would have retrieved the buck. Antony and his father wouldn’t be expected to drag it out themselves.
Oh yeah, this episode is *easily* my favourite in the whole show. Benedict and Colin Go To White Castle, the competion, the backstory trauma, the tension, Edwina being precious, Lady Featherington looking exasparated at Prudence's cluelessness - it's all just so good. Bridgerton at its best, right here.
The episode title, besides referring to the fatal bee, is an idiomatic expression, mostly British perhaps, and maybe a little old-fashioned these days. To have "a bee in your bonnet" means to have a slight obsession, as we might say these days "a thing" about some small thing. "She has a bee in her bonnet about men with mustaches," that sort of thing.
Btw they definitely don't just leave the deer, it would be used in their kitchen - but they have servants with them to carry their things and to then take the deer back. No gentleman is going to haul a dead deer back himself 😂
7:28 For the record that flower is the hyacinth flower. That's why the youngest girl - the baby Violet Bridgerton was pregnant with at the time - was name Hyacinth. The Hyacinth flower already has a sad story behind it - in the greek myths the god Apollo (who like most of the male gods at least was bisexual - or at least was interested in anything pretty) fell in love with a Spartan prince called Hyacinthus (not much else is said about him apart from the fact that he was beautiful) but the god of the west wind Zephyr was also in love with Hyacinthus but had some sort of trouble communicating his feelings, so one day when he saw Apollo and Hyacinthus throwing the discus together, Zephyr (either in a sudden fit of jealous rage or as part of a plan resulting from unspoken feelings building up inside him till he got to the 'if I can't have you no one can' mindset) he shifted the winds so that the discus flew right into the side of Hyacinthus's poor pretty head. As he died in Apollo's arms the Hyacinth flower either bloomed from his blood or Apollo changed him into the flower so that his youth and beauty would be preserved forever. Zephyr fled in shame, guilt and grief until he agreed to serve Eros the god of love (otherwise known as cupid) in exchange for protection. Hoping that when young miss Hyacinth Bridgerton gets her solo story she'll have a much happier story than her namesake - though Daphne was also the name of another one of Apollo's loves and she definitely got a happier ending than her namesake (Apollo made fun of Eros, so Eros made him fall in love with a nymph called Daphne by shooting him with a golden arrow and then shot Daphne with an arrow made out of lead that made her at worst fear and despise Apollo or at best feel indifferent to him, so she ran from Apollo and he pursued her, till finally she called out to her river god father to help her and was turned into the laurel tree so that Apollo could never have her - the laurel ended up becoming Apollo's sacred tree and it's leaves used to crown heroes and champions as a way of honouring Daphne).
Benedict is my favorite of the siblings in the show, and I love his story in the books. I hope the show keeps going long enough that we get his story. It's technically supposed to be next in line and Colin's story is the fourth book, But the show deviates from the books and adds more characters and story lines. In the books you don't find out who Lady Whistledown is until the 4th.
I have been waiting for this reaction! This is one of the best episodes ever, imho. And you all did not disappoint. (Yes, some people aren't happy because it does differ from the books and I remember when I first read the book back in the 90s, I think it was--they were my fav couple of the eight and they still are). Now that we are here, I'd like to share something... You both loved how they were laughing and even talked about how he talks to Kate first about things, etc. Go back and think of the first season or the first two episodes. When has Anthony laughed? Truly, genuinely laughed (not a bark or cynical laugh, but a real laugh and smile)? Pay attention from here on out. One of the best signs where his heart truly belongs!
I feel so bad for Anthony. Deep down he's just scared because he knows better than anyone how fast someone can die and how much pain it can cause to the lover being suddenly left alone. In the end his mom doesn't regret anything. She probably would like the qoute Stoick said about Valka in how to train your dragon where he said "there's no greater gift than love but with love comes loss." Anthony is just so scared that he will suddenly leave his lover alone when and if he does before and afraid of hurting her just as he saw happen with his mom and dad play out. Like he seriously witnessed his dad die and it's so obvious that he looked up to his dad.
Fun fact: the number each bridgerton was shown hitting their balls through is their corresponding season! So like Daphne hit through one, Anthony scored on two, etc
rewatching your bridgerton reactions right now but i saw the kanthony bee scene on twitter when s2 premiered (hadn't seen anything from bridgerton before) and it was what got me to start the show immediately lol
Now you know why we all said you would understand Anthony more this season. This episode is why he is so closed off. Forced to be the head of his family so young and manage 7 siblings (half of them being so young). He never had room to be selfish after that and he’s afraid of destroying a family if he dies. Cause his parents were a love match. It’s trauma Also the baby was named by the flowers Edmund was picking. Also this is why the bee is in their crest and you saw it last season
The deer would of been collected by their games keeper and taken for slaughter, that deer can feed a family the size of the Bridgerton clan for a year.
i agree that this episode is one of my favourites in terms of how it changes pretty well from comedy to drama, there’s not really a point in this episode where my attention is lost. also, i just love benedict and antony in this episode for different reasons LOL

I agree with Zuff "That was basically a kiss". It turned into something as intimate and sexual as a kiss, and it was certainly as important as a kiss.

Edwina is lovely though she reminds me of being about 16 playing at being grown whereas Kate is wholly age appropriate.
