Royer has had an amazing career in fashion and continues to act as a consultant on Halston related projects, including the current Netflix series by Ryan Murphy.

I was a high school student working at JCPennys in the early 1980 ‘s. Having a piece of Affordable Halston fashion back then meant a lot and opened up the world of fashion for me. The path of Halstons career changed in a way he did not foresee. But he influenced so many people who still admire his talent he is remembered and loved.

I am nearly the same age as Chris and I am blown away by her memory of these events, conversations, details. She obviously didn’t get caught up in drug culture of those times. She is a delightful person.

It's not easy to be an artistic genius AND also be a savvy businessman. I really feel for Halston because you can just see how immensely talented he was. At the same time, though, he was ahead of his time with the licensing and the lower priced lines from a high end fashion house, because now we see it all the time. Like the Missoni for Target line, or Kenzo/Versace/etc for H&M. Designers like Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, and Calvin Klein ended up slapping their names on EVERYTHING and flourished. I feel that Halston would have been able to do so much more had he been afforded the time.

Halston was before my time but I think Netflix got it wrong. Should have focused more on the design and a little less scandal. Great interview.
Really enjoyed both episodes especially since I watched the Netflix series which left me feeling sad. These interviews gave me a different perspective for which I’m grateful. I remember wearing the perfume back in the day. Now to find a Halston garment I can wear. 😘

I love and enjoy each of your videos. I even rewatch them just in case I miss something or want to strengthen my designer/fashion history knowledge. I had herd the name Halston mentioned a few times on Project Runway but wasn't familiar with him or his legacy so I began to research him through UA-cam videos, magazine articles, documentaries, the Netflix series and now thankfully these 2 episodes 🙂 I hope you're able to do more Halston episodes with another member of his team in the future.

Thank you for this insight into Halston. When I started my carreer in fashion I did a lot of custom apparel in Ultrasuede. It was rather tricky to work with but once I got the hang of it; it became my 'bread & butter' money! I would like to add a suggestion, for the 'makers' out there, maybe you could do some in-depth discussion on the construction of some of the more interesting pieces. Maybe you could interview a curator of fashion. I like to see the surface embellishments or the cut of a garment up-close.

One of my wishes in life if I could do anything, would be to have a chance to go back in time and be a fly on the wall and follow everyone around why just listen to these conversations, hang out, etc. It's all era and culture I've been obsessed with since I was 14.

Great, informative show. Ask her if she remembers the Polis model from your Paramount show on episode about closet w Bes Bens hat lady, etc. Closet that kept on giving. I saw doc called Halston fon Amazon Prima. in one of his early shows showing dresses cut from crazy good patterns and cut w one seam in mostly silk organza on the bias, Iswear I saw that Polish model w huge stacked blonde hair w a flip. Ask this Haltonette if she remembers her. I think it was a show prior to the “Halstonette” entourage, def in first half of doc. Classic Americana. I loved it. I remember seeing Halton commercial and wondering if I could fit into a dress. In 79 I was 14 years old and love make up and fashion. I loved the wrap around dress then and now.

We had Fabrice Simon who created a lot of beaded dresses for celebrities such as Diana Ross, Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Dionne Warwick. He was born in Haiti, and mostly of the dresses were beaded in Haiti.
I love Fabrice and have had the pleasure of buying and selling some spectacular examples of his work. He should get more attention for the level of work that he did. Really art pieces!

I only wish Halston put more creativity into his fragrances. They were pretty ordinary .
The idea of opulence appealed to the middle class aspiring to couture the love of fashion instead of humanity is vested in the appreciation of beauty clothing as much as environment . 🥰🦹🏾♂️🧕🏿👌🏾

Wow and what a great episode on Halston and the interview. This segment took me back to the start of my fashion love in the early 80’s and how incredible and exciting fashion was for so many back then. How having a look took work and lots of imagination and discovering what came next that was the new big thing.
Also, back in the 80’s, most of the designer clothes were made for the rich and famous. So we were the first generation that were met rich or famous but loved fashion. So when we went into a high end boutique, many of us were looked down on by the sales ppl. Bc what they were used to as customers were the waspy white clientele. We didn’t fit the typical ppl. that wore and could afford designer clothes
We weren’t rich but we knew our label and would save all our money to buy that clause Montana jacket that costed $1500. in 1982. We also were going to the disco and clubs and wore the more racy pieces the rich and famous would dare to wear. Why many designer in the 90’s took the inspiration from the night clubs and the working class streets and fashion turned around for the first time, instead the other way around.
We couldn’t buy everything we wanted, but me and my friend ma managed to get the high profile pieces and our group were the most fashionable in SF back in the 80’s wearing out designer clothes to seedy nightclubs in the Tenderloin. Yeah, we took fashion to a level that was not done before. Poor but we had a vision and drive and many of those friends ended up getting into the fashion business. One became the head merchandiser for Wilkes Bashford for about 8 years. Wilkes was the ultimate men’s designer store and we would get an item or 2 at their sales, starting from when we were 18 years old. The first store to bring in many new designer like Issey Miyake and Versace.

The structure of petticoat of the 50’s I been crafting the full skirt for much younger age the seems to loving along with sparkle like sequin which layer organza over to give a softer touch. But it the how to or how they created the 50’s petticoat that have my interest what I craft is very, very full so like the Beauty and the Beast’s Belle’s ball gown dress for a very young lady about 6 does not need a hoop skirt.

so i have a couple of dresses that look exactly like the ones where the models are spinning around...specifically the one with spaghetti straps. they are gorgeous but made for someone pretty tall :D there isn't a label. i bought them 20 years ago in a thrift store in vegas. is it possible they are halston???
