Very cool finds indeed. Micah is very friendly and very easy to work with. His prices are extremely reasonable. He has much more than just clubs as well, many quality golf antiques you just don’t find everyday, like the little sand-tee mold I recently purchased from him. Great video!

Thanks! And couldn’t agree more about Micah. He’s one of a very small number of eBay sellers I recommend to folks looking to buy clubs.

In the UK it seems pretty rare to find hickories in the antique shop market - mainly overtaken by ebay. For the reasons you mentioned the scope (and carts) would be a no-no for me, but It might have been an interesting slant to measure the accuracy of your eyeball distance against the scope.
    Another great video.

Thanks, Martin! The best antique stores for finding clubs in the U.S. are the multi-vendor stores where people rent a space. Those folks are usually very active in finding items for their space by going to estate sales, which is how a lot of clubs here find the light of day again.

What are your plans for the feathery golf sets ?

Hey, Tobby - still figuring out the details on that, but I think it will come down to providing a splice neck wood for off the tee, a general iron around 30-35 degrees, and a putting cleek ... so just three clubs. Most guys that play featherie use clubs from their pre-1900 gutty golf sets so that's what I think I'll draw from when putting together the featherie starter sets.

What got you into hickory golf?

Thanks for the question! My initial interest in hickory golf coincided with my frustration with modern golf. In May 2019, I almost quit playing the game altogether because I just wasn't seeing the kind of improvement I expected with all of the technology in my modern golf bag and I had become hopelessly hung up on score as the determining factor for whether or not I enjoyed golfing. I happened upon a video by Erik Anders Lang where he was playing hickory golf and it piqued my interest. I'd heard of hickory golf but until then, hadn't seen a younger golfer playing. I found some cheap clubs in an antique store, took them out to a par 3 course and I was hooked. Since then, I've been playing hickory golf exclusively. I'm still a proud hacker but I have more fun playing hickory golf than I ever did playing with modern clubs. Not only do I enjoy the rounds more no matter what my score, learning how to repair a club and then be able to play it has made the game so much more gratifying. Add to that my love for golf history and my enjoyment of golf has become multi-dimensional now as opposed to the single-minded "score over everything" mentality I had with modern clubs.

Well said, it's just a whole different game with hickories.
