Messi scores the most goals per game, the most assists per game, the most dribbles per game, the most key passes per game, the most trophies out of any player ever and most of those are not even close. The reason Ronaldo is even in the debate is because he has a higher goals total because he has played 100 more games.
If we take dribbling for example, there is not a single player in the history of football that has HALF as many players dribbled past, to be fair it's not even close to half.
When Messi played striker (the position that scores goals) he scored 91 goals in a year, more than any player ever and more than most TOP TEAMS TOTAL in that year ALONE. His shooting accuracy compared to Ronaldo is higher. He needs less shots to score more goals. He scores more shots from outside the box (a good distance away from the goal) than Ronaldo, he scores more freekicks than anyone in a top league.
When he played midfielder (position in the middle of the field that facilitates plays more) Messi got an all time record of assists out of any player.

There are many players with mediocre stats that are clearly better than players with great stats. Take Zidane vs casemiro or something. I fell in love with Messi's play. Ronaldo was a top winger & striker using his height when he lost some speed, but what makes Messi the best is he could play left wing right winger striker but also attacking midfield & centre midfield & when he played in midfield he could easily become the best midfielder with his vision, composure, passing, link up play.

Tbf Messi and Ronaldo are two completely different types of players. Firstly Ronaldo is a striker and Messi is a playmaker/ attacking midfielder (who happens to be very good at scoring as well 😂). Also Ronaldo relies a lot on his power and athletic ability while Messi is far more technical with better ball control. Just 🐐 things ❤️

When Messi said "we do things in different ways" he's referring to how differently he and Ronaldo play the game. I guess the main difference between Messi and Ronaldo would be physicality. Just look at their height difference, for example. So Messi focussed more on developing his technique, especially with dribbling, passing, and chance creation. Whereas Ronaldo is much stronger, better in the air (like heading), etc. But they're both really, really good at scoring and were both pretty fast in their prime
