But also.. he used to take performance enhancing drugs and failed tests so jts a bit debatable. But the game style is very similar. Maradona is the only one who is comparable in terms of having GOAT level dribbling, passing, control and shooting. Messi just has way more goals, assists, achievements, records and trophies but the talent level of prime Messi vs prime Maradona is practically identical. But for me, its his precision, trajectory, pace, the spin he puts on the ball at times, all the while tip toeing around defenders and with just a momentary glance find the goalkeeper and his position and the perfect space to put the ball and executes it with precision.. all the while running and finding spaces around defenders who are constantly shoving their feet between his legs. He is more than just genius. He is beyond all that a one of a kind alien.

As an Australian who has watched all the greats and played football for the last 50 years (and still playing)...the debate isn't Messi and Ronaldo. Ronaldo isn't even second. I doubt he's third. The debate is Messi and Maradona. Maradona was my hero and I never thought I would see someone like him again. But Messi is better.

if you are currently watching the world cup and see the players laying behind the "wall" of players on free kicks, that is literally a strategy because of Messi, he was scoring so many goals and making so many free kicks teams had to start having a player lay down so he couldn't go underneath the wall when they jump and now its just a thing always used.
