Amazing video, so comprehensive, I love the Video Essay format and Football is suited to it since everything within it exists in multiple contexts. Oh I subbed and liked, I'm your 150th sub. It'd be cool if you can make more videos on football subjects. Dele Alli would be an interesting one, plus other 'burnouts' as it were. Or players hampered by injury, R9 in particular is such an interesting example as in general this newer generation of fans who didn't see him play doesn't really understand why a lot of people believe R9, without the injuries, was a potential GOAT.
I appreciate the support mate. I've got two more videos planned out, one of them being a video essay, and then I'll try to do another football video. The problem with these videos, is that all the content is so heavily copyright protected, that it limits what I can visually show you. I had to edit out alot of the clips since they were protected by the Premier league. But I'll try my best, and once again, thank you for the kind words
There is a difference between “Dutch Total Football” and “Spanish Tiki Taka” The difference being that the former has every player being able to play in any given position as the situation demands; and the latter, which is letting the ball do all the work instead of the player by keeping possession of the ball with short passes rather than skillful dribbling.
Actually there was never such thing as a Tiki Taka in Barcelona. Guardiola himself hated the word, because it misrepresents their philosophy by far. Guardiola's Barcelona didn't play to keep the possession with short passes. Instead, it was a system with emphasis on positional play and attracting pressure to exploit spacing.
I always liked Bojan and Deulofeu. Bojan was too striker oriented tho, he didn't have a similar adaptability nor act as a playmaker. Deulofeu seemed like a complete forward and was great at adapting. He was definitely the closest to what they wanted in "The next Messi". The issue, is the club never cared enough to actually build either of them. Bojan and Deulofeu proved they could reach the heights, were consistent and impactful, yet never had the support that should have been given. Bojan was suppressed and disregarded for new talent, Deulofeu always brought back, but never allowed to grow. At the end of the day, bad coaching and general mismanagement kill careers and ruin potential
I think i can give you more info on Giovanni dos Santos, he started playing for a football club his dad was manager (Sao Pablo or Santos if i remember correctly) in San Nicolas de los Garza amateur league (Nuevo Leon, Mexico) at that time that was the biggest amateur league in Mexico (around 96-99). At that time i used to play for Fuerzas Basicas Monterrey F.C for the 87 cat and the finals where all in the same field for all of the cat, so much part of our team stay after our match to watch other kids finals, there he was not only playing the 89 cat finals but also making it seem so easy and relaxed he scored like 7 goals and was sub at the second half so his brother Jona dos Santos could play (Jona was younger but played with the 89 cat) he also scored like 3 or 4 goals but was nothing like Gio could do. When the awards of the league took place i was awarded for best striker in 87cat with 21 goals i was so fk happy, then when came time for the 89cat awards i was just in shock, Gio took the striker award with 127 goals (a record that is still unbeated in the league). That week Monterrey F.C. offered his Dad to bring Gio and Jona to train in Basicas so they where training with the 89 cat and some times with 88 and 87. The dos Santos just stayed like 6 or 8 months training there and then they moved to Barcelona. For the time i saw him training and playing i could see that he played just to get his father proud, he didnt stayed after training to chill with the other players or just play more football in fact Jona was the one that was more open and played more after the training have ended, i think it wasnt the passion he was looking for, it just happens that he was a natural really good player.
That's really interesting mate. It's clear to see how much he could give, but that's really impressive, doing that much at that age. No wonder Barca picked him up so quickly. Thanks for sharing this, it given me a further insight into the bloke.
As much as I have been a fan of Barcelona and a huge fan of Messi, I agree with your assessment of Barcelona it's been a problem I have noticed since Pep left, I see him recently and it's truly so different a change in the man he's more secure and he has the backing of the organization and fans, which he didn't have from Sandro Rosell who wanted him out mainly because he was a disciple of Johan Cruyff and total football, Pep never received the support or recognition he deserved, and it affected him and his relationships, and it seems that is the way the Barcelona Board handled its young players, Bojan was such a talent and the way the catalan newspapers either knowingly or not uses their words to critical effect on the young players who do seem to want every young player to eventually turn out the same as Messi is appalling, I think that they are feeding off the way past players say that barca is the hardest and most difficult club to either play for or coach, it seems like they are out to prove it, their way of handling contracts and loans of the young players as difficult as possible, now it's almost impossible to have the drive and patience of young leo, but their needs to be something done for these kids, they have to become a little more determined but the club has got to find a way out of the past, times are different kids are different so the club has to adjust, or they will lose those diamonds in the rough, like Yamal and the others, I believe the quicker they get rid of Laporte and his constant talking of big things happening that never come or it's just to late, first the papers should stop the next Messi theme, and find away out of the financial black hole that they find themselves, can't believe that Bartholomew or however it is spelled got off without more punishment or they are just as careless, idk, but for everyone involved something has to happen, good portrayal,
The only "next messi" or "(insert country name) messi" , to become a legitimate world class player and one of the greatest players of his generation and a legend, thus far, is "The egyptian messi" Salah and he still didnt come close to messis level.
@Fredding-The-Needle I didn't say he matched messi. I'm just saying out of all the people that were dubbed the next messi the only one that didn't become a victim of the "next messi" curse and become a flop is Salah.
People are already writing off Ansu Fati. Chill out fellas, he's still only 21. He still got plenty of time to prove himself. Ousmane Dembele is still considered a superstar with that inconsistent output per season, how is he not considered a failure already?
Players performing so good in youth football that they have huge pressure to perform before their first game is a problem. Take Moukoko, if only nobody knew about his goalscoring record in the youth leagues. I think that there should be a law where youth football stats are automatically blocked on the internet or something, and the players names are filtered out from their devices so they can’t check what people are saying about them until they’re old enough
Its not the curse, its just that no player could match his career, people dont understand that a player like Messi doesnt happen that often, and it will take many more years until we get player like him again, and the way the modern football is going, its actually "if" we get again, because players these days sacrifice their career for money. Just look at how many years it took since Maradona, for Messi to happen, and in between them, there were many players labeled as "Next Maradona" and none of them matched him. So there is no "next Messi, Maradona, Cruyff..........etc.", there is just one, eventually two amazing talents that happen once in a while that blow us away and that`s it.
I don’t think a lot of people remember just how much pressure there is to fill the boots of players like Pele, Maradona, Messi and Cristiano. 1 goal per match, you aren’t allowed to be injured, you can’t be tired, you can’t be sad, you can’t live outside of the pitch. You aren’t allowed to quit. I really do feel bad for those players. It’s an unrealistic request.
It's not possible to "become" Messi. I think young players should set a more realistic goal for themselves, because comparing themselves with Messi is self-destructive at best.
There will be next pele, next Maradona, next Ronaldo....but there'll never be next Messi....he is one in a life time talent...so cherish while u can experience.. .
We had Pele, Maradona, Zidane, OG Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo CR7, Messi and other players in different era. We will never have next Pele, Maradona, Messi or Ronaldo. We will have somebody else different. We are fortunate to have Messi-Ronaldo era for over 15 years now. Hopefully, new era begins soon Mbappe-Yamal era.
The thing is there was search for the next Maradona long ago until we get Messi, the fans try to paint him as the next Maradona even call him failed Maradona until 2020 but then Argentina achieve 3 international trophy for only short time and now no one dare to call him next Maradona anymore instead they searching for the next Messi
I believe we won't see another Messi for another 10 years at least all these young guys have very little playing in the legue so it's hard to even compare them rn
For those who claim that lack of discipline or psychological issues were the main factors in the decline of these players:I will say that even if those aspects were solved, neither of them would have escaped the B/C class category.
The only player who came close was Neymar…. Nobody else. Neymar could dribble entire defences. Neymar could pull off insane defence splitting passes. Neymar’s goal and assist numbers are incredible. Neymar has incredible football IQ. Nobody else ticks all these boxes.
People speak of next this or that when the person in question is no longer active.. but in Messi's case we see something different. How can they live up to such expectations. The pressure will kill them

There is a difference between “Dutch Total Football” and “Spanish Tiki Taka”
The difference being that the former has every player being able to play in any given position as the situation demands; and the latter, which is letting the ball do all the work instead of the player by keeping possession of the ball with short passes rather than skillful dribbling.
There is no next Messi, that was it
Messi is basically an alien, so yeah, you're not wrong

Yeah, it's always devastating to see talent get wasted away by managers.
Boss video! Man Deulofeu got passed round like a spliff :-(
Thanks for the love my friend. Yeah deulofeu is still plodding along though, some player for Everton he was
I'm surprised Ansu Fati didn't make the list

As much as I have been a fan of Barcelona and a huge fan of Messi, I agree with your assessment of Barcelona it's been a problem I have noticed since Pep left, I see him recently and it's truly so different a change in the man he's more secure and he has the backing of the organization and fans, which he didn't have from Sandro Rosell who wanted him out mainly because he was a disciple of Johan Cruyff and total football, Pep never received the support or recognition he deserved, and it affected him and his relationships, and it seems that is the way the Barcelona Board handled its young players, Bojan was such a talent and the way the catalan newspapers either knowingly or not uses their words to critical effect on the young players who do seem to want every young player to eventually turn out the same as Messi is appalling, I think that they are feeding off the way past players say that barca is the hardest and most difficult club to either play for or coach, it seems like they are out to prove it, their way of handling contracts and loans of the young players as difficult as possible, now it's almost impossible to have the drive and patience of young leo, but their needs to be something done for these kids, they have to become a little more determined but the club has got to find a way out of the past, times are different kids are different so the club has to adjust, or they will lose those diamonds in the rough, like Yamal and the others, I believe the quicker they get rid of Laporte and his constant talking of big things happening that never come or it's just to late, first the papers should stop the next Messi theme, and find away out of the financial black hole that they find themselves, can't believe that Bartholomew or however it is spelled got off without more punishment or they are just as careless, idk, but for everyone involved something has to happen, good portrayal,
This video is great, I can definitely see you getting big in the future

The only "next messi" or "(insert country name) messi" , to become a legitimate world class player and one of the greatest players of his generation and a legend, thus far, is "The egyptian messi" Salah and he still didnt come close to messis level.
Messi is simply too good to match.
@Fredding-The-Needle I didn't say he matched messi. I'm just saying out of all the people that were dubbed the next messi the only one that didn't become a victim of the "next messi" curse and become a flop is Salah.
No problem bro, you make a really good point there, he has bested the curse and opened a path for other north african footballers to follow.
bojan's story is one the most heartbreaking ones, the guy was just too good and we didn't get to enjoy him
well after the Euros, Lamine has by far the best chance. But the pressure will be higher than ever before
Not perhaps. . Messi is the most famous athlete in the world
What a well made video. I learnt heaps
thank you my friend, i appreciate the support
Soon to be big guy on youtube. I hope !
I feel like this would be the same with yamal. hes a great player but with love comes hate and 1 person that hates him makes 30 people that love him
People are already writing off Ansu Fati. Chill out fellas, he's still only 21. He still got plenty of time to prove himself.
Ousmane Dembele is still considered a superstar with that inconsistent output per season, how is he not considered a failure already?
exactly, he has still got time.
Great video.....
High quality Content.....
Thank you, Mr Putin
Alan hallovic , alex collado . You forgot some
Yea both are great Alen Halilovic is having a renaissance,
Players performing so good in youth football that they have huge pressure to perform before their first game is a problem. Take Moukoko, if only nobody knew about his goalscoring record in the youth leagues. I think that there should be a law where youth football stats are automatically blocked on the internet or something, and the players names are filtered out from their devices so they can’t check what people are saying about them until they’re old enough
That's a great idea.
damn no ansu? surely he deserved a spot on here, they gave him the #10
Its not the curse, its just that no player could match his career, people dont understand that a player like Messi doesnt happen that often, and it will take many more years until we get player like him again, and the way the modern football is going, its actually "if" we get again, because players these days sacrifice their career for money.
Yamal is handling it quite well
Yeah, he's been killing it for spain at the euros.
Let’s just see if he keeps it up and lives up to the expectation
I hated fati being called the next Messi I just thought he was really good and can be brace next star if they didn't play him until injury
Very well written video. Loved the production
Thanks for the kind words my friend
I don’t think a lot of people remember just how much pressure there is to fill the boots of players like Pele, Maradona, Messi and Cristiano. 1 goal per match, you aren’t allowed to be injured, you can’t be tired, you can’t be sad, you can’t live outside of the pitch. You aren’t allowed to quit. I really do feel bad for those players. It’s an unrealistic request.
it's freakish...

Gio Dos Santos hurt to see his downfall being my favorite player in the early 2010's.
It's not possible to "become" Messi. I think young players should set a more realistic goal for themselves, because comparing themselves with Messi is self-destructive at best.
Why are you so underrated

Well yamal seems to be the next Messi since euro victory also breaking pele record of youngest player to win a international trophy
people always want the next someone instead of a unique someone else
yeah that's for sure. There is a lot of vanity in football.
I believe we won't see another Messi for another 10 years at least all these young guys have very little playing in the legue so it's hard to even compare them rn
There will be no next Messi, but there will be great players to come.
I'm very much enjoying Lamine Yamal at the moment, he's doing wonders at the Euros...
For those who claim that lack of discipline or psychological issues were the main factors in the decline of these players:I will say that even if those aspects were solved, neither of them would have escaped the B/C class category.
Great messi perfirmances go back to 2005. Chelsea and madrid games come to mind.
