    Kelly, thanks for addressing the water issue. Lets not forget "Arid" desert by definition is less than 10" of annual rainfall and insufficient to support agriculture and most wood plants. People move here from areas that have between 20-30" of annual rainfall with weekly precipitation. The reality is water diversion, transference and storage are all essential for humans to prosper in any arid climate, be it Greece, Israel, or even the LA basin. The "Arizona Department of Water Resources" publishes historical use data and driven by the conversion from farmland (unsupported by rainfall) to urban and industrial uses, total water use is relatively consistent over several decades despite quadrupling of the metro area population.
