How to check for shock absorber leaks

My Honda crv shocks are very hard . It’s 10 years old now. Should I change it? No leaks are visible

Not ok. The fluid that dampens the movement up and down is leaking out so the ride is affected (not smooth, bumpy etc). Generally these are sold as a cartridge that is replaced
