      Thing is shocks are so expensive you could literally buy another car instead of fixing them , as here in England cars are dirt cheap ,you can buy a decent beater car for like £500

    I learned from experience the better quality shocks are a better value than the cheaper parts because of body roll during cornering and braking, they also last a long time like the OEM, the budget shocks might last a year if you are lucky. If you have more than 50-80K on your car, replace those shocks because it makes a real difference in how it handles in all types of weather conditions.

    Talking about the instant car they used, Punto already has a stiff suspension setup. Even if the shock absorber fails completely the ride doesn't get bouncy at all. That goes largely for all vehicles with a stiff suspension setup. It simply wouldn't act the way they have portrayed. Its exaggerated.
    I own a punto and didn't realize that both the front shockabsorbers have completely failed until it was diagnosed on a scheduled service. Hardly experienced any change in handling or ride quality or abnormal tyre wear issues. Got those replaced after diagnosis but the spring in itself is comparatively stiffer and it prevented any change in driving dynamics and thats why I never suspected anything wrong with the shockabsorbers. Even at high speeds the ride was perfectly stable. But driving a vehicle with a soft suspension setup, you would instantly experience the difference in ride quality. It would be all over the place at high speeds and the ride would become bouncier.

      Not totally, (other than the tire bending O.o)
      Had to drive for a few months with worn shocks and this does literally happen depending on vehicle and road conditions. Even fishtailing on straight roads at low speeds can happen due to bad shocks. Mine is probably an extreme senario however

    the lateral wind concept seems true in my experience. When Im on the I95 or Turnpike, doing 60-70mph i sometimes feel slight YANKS! to the left or right. Its as if there is a strong but short lived gust of wind and I can actually hear it and feel the effects of it hitting my car laterally. Sometimes the YANK! is more than just a slight pull but its always firm and quick never a slow pull. Its a YANK!

    I have a 1997 town car touring and I think the duralast shocks are a little to weak to keep the tire pressed down against the highway starting at 60 mph. I have just had the tires balanced. Also when I hit a bump at highway speed with either front tire it bounces about four times like bump-da-da-da-da. I know that might not make sense. It is also very boaty around corners tight front end.

    Ive driven a 2002 VY Holden commodore SS v8 sedan in 2017 with original shock absorbers. They need replacing. Pros-shocks have sagged which makes the car sit at a nice height in terms of looks. Cons-doesn't really adsorb the shocks anymore. Harsh bangs when hitting the general bumps on the roads. Which obviously means it wont handle as well either however still fine. Braking-well i it has great brakes as standard and I tell you what, she still pulls up real good if a Kangaroo jumps out.
    Video graphics defiantly over act the motions but are correct in my experience.
    There fine though. If you drive like a normal person at a safe rate then it makes hardly a difference really. But if your having a go and a bit of fun, well it's not so fun. That's when you'll be like "I need to upgrade this"

    I have a question. When I go to pass a semi that doesn't have the aerodynamic sheet under its trailer y does my car want to be sucked under the trailer. I always have this problem when I'm on the highway in my Ford Fiesta . The car seems to pull towards the trailer till I reach up to the semi then it seams to go back to normal. The compensating for the right pulling is me to turn my wheel to the left but when I get to the semi the car stops pulling and it yanks hard left because my steering wheel is turned that way

    This stuff actually happens other than the tire bending is a bit overkill and self inflicted because you deflated your tires for offroading and too lazy to reinflate xD
    Depending on where you live (conditions of road and weather) and your shock absorber conditions, this does happen and I've literally experienced all of those often due to conditions where I live (except tire bending).

    The SPRING is the thing that absorbs the shocks. The spring is the SHOCK ABSORBER. The thing in this video labelled 'shock absorber' DOES NOT ABSORB SHOCKS, it DAMPENS the shock absorbing effect of the spring. It is a DAMPER - not a shock absorber. Also, the coil spring and damper assembly shown here, in this format, is known as a MacPherson strut, NOT a spring and shock. This seems to be a generic term for the complete spring and damper assembly, but is incorrect. This is the difference twixt engineer speak and normal person speak.

    • @danc2014
      @danc2014 2 роки тому

      The Shock absorber does absorb some of the first impact movement but will soon be over come by the force if large enough and the spring will compress. Afterwards the shock will dampen the spring movement. Shocks will have a compression and rebound rate.

    This video is horrible. Yes it illustrates the concepts, but it exaggerates them profoundly !! Shocks work at a high efficiency right up nearly to the end of life. Then a seal will leak and cause near or complete failure. At 100% failure the effects are fairly minimal except at extremes of use: like high speeds, high speed cornering, and very large bumps. Stopping distances are changed negligibly. Real world non video game cgi videos actually show a much better view of what actually happens. Instead this video was made to exaggerate and scare people that aren't in the industry.

      no no Dissagree with you,
      I am an engineer, I understand very well how its really work and experience it my self how the worn out shock absorbers dealing with bumps, cornering, wind, etc,
      and what these video's showing is explanation of what people experience with their vehicle on worn out shock absorbers, not just theoritical or exaggerate at all..
      that is what really happening, and the cgi is merely the way so that common people understand it.

    You guys spelled tire wrong....

    Anyone could explain me plz why the tire goes that way on minute 3?

    • @danc2014
      @danc2014 2 роки тому

      The steering wheel will oscillate with worn shock in a corner. The force of the car weight on the tire in a turn will cause the spring to compress but the shock will not dampen and hold the force and the wheel will oscillates as it goes up the steering angle changes and your steering wheel follows
