  • Easter cancelled on the BBC, ticks on hot cross buns and 'gesture eggs' instead of Easter eggs. Is Easter being erased from society and why is it happening?

Christianity is certainly being erased in the CoE but not overall. The church is growing where there is fidelity to the truth, faithful preaching and a high view of the Bible.

Yes, indeed. And as for Easter, certainly it’s not being erased. If you don’t believe me, check out the Wintershall drama team that does the annual Passion play every Good Friday. This year many lives have been changed through the play, and more souls across the UK being won to Jesus.

When the Church of England episcopate is busy fighting every battle except those that concern their flock, whose members they regard with evident disdain, it is not surprising that the secular world sees no reason to do otherwise.

Here in South Africa hot cross buns have a cross at Easter. They are sold with a single stripe at other times of the year. In Israel it is Sunday already (The Hebrew day starts at sundown) so let me say: The Lord is risen!

I hope the service will be online? The BBC has lost its way some time ago, IMO. Won't be shopping in Iceland for buns.
Did I miss something - does that mean 4/5ths are not in favour of the tick?
Sorry, I buy Easter eggs and I celebrate Christmas not whatever season they call it.
This is more of the move to eradicate our culture - are we going to have Ramadan eggs next - only to be eaten at night?!
Whether Christian or not, us British need to stand up for our culture before it is erased altogether.

It appears that Ramadan has become more important with lights in London and Easter and the Christian message relegated to a lower position.
Are we in the last days now?

I feel I have to add a comment and some context on the dropping of the "Easter from Kings" broadcast. This has been broadcast for the last 12 years or so on Holy Saturday at about 6pm on BBC2. It was certainly not a 'celebratory mass'- that's very lazy and inaccurate journalism, rather it was a special 'made for TV' service of music and readings tracing the events of Holy Week and Easter Day and was as much a musical treat as a service. It was prerecorded each year in the preceding December, along with the 'made for TV' Carols from Kings, to save on production costs of rigging the chapel for lights and sound etc. The BBC did though broadcast live on Radio 3 a performance of Stanford's "Stabat Mater" from Kings on Good Friday evening instead, on the 100th anniversary of the composer's death.
I don't actually feel short changed by the missing "Easter from Kings" broadcast, much as I always watched and enjoyed it. One of the really positive outcomes of the pandemic is that many churches and Cathedrals are live streaming their services, some to very high, almost broadcast standards. Just this evening I have watched the Easter Vigil and First Eucharist of Easter from both Canterbury and Chester Cathedrals, and the changing face of broadcast services means that we are increasingly turning to UA-cam rather than BBC/ITV to watch them. The very high costs of an outside broadcast have to be weighed against the opportunity to broadcast a Christian service on Mainstream TV. I remember the BBC broadcasting Canterbury's Easter Vigil in about 1980 and the drama as the Resurrection was announced in the darkness and light of the Paschal Candle, followed by ringing of bells and the fortissimo thundering of the organ playing an improvised fanfare as all the lights in the building came on. This year, the BBC, fulfilling its public service mandate for religious broadcasting, will again be at Canterbury, this year just for Easter Day, for one live OB TV service on BBC1 and two live 'on the wireless'. Those for me are always the most important service of the BBC's output for Easter, more so than the musical feast from King's. For those who still watch TV or listen to the radio, a decreasing number, Easter is still marked, but it is also marked in new media such as YT streaming.

As someone raised in the Church & a committed Christian, I have been struck by how religiously illiterate people are these days - even over 50s who should have had a Christian(ish) schooling. Heard someone on the radio saying her local church had a donkey last Thursday because ’that was when Jesus came out of the wilderness’ 🤦🏻‍♀️

Given that the word "Easter" isn't even a word of Christian origin, Cadbury should perhaps start selling "Resurrection eggs" as a "gesture" to Christianity!

There was an Easter Service on BBC1 this Easter Sunday morning, just before I set off for real life church. However there were around 20 people present so I reckon around 400 people locally didn't bother, and they are almost all white and British.

A local vicar mentioned the Tick Cross Buns (albeit jokingly) during his sermon at a Walk Of Witness service on Good Friday. Literally 5 minutes after the open air service ended, two fire engines (with lights flashing) pulled up outside the Iceland store around the corner.
Thankfully it turned out to be a false alarm; but I found the idea that the vicar had spoke a curse over Iceland and it was somehow judgement, to be amusing. 😂

The Archbishop's Easter Morning service, on BBC One. included the first Apostolic Sermon to Non-Jews (Acts 10:37-47), and a clear preaching of the Good News in his address.

Sadly I lived long enough to see Britain from once being a Christian country to be becoming a secular and increasingly anti-Christian country. When CD Lewis died in 1963 England was a Christian country - 60 years later it is not. This causes me great sadness - and I am full of foreboding. We Christians must prepare for persecution. It is sure to come sooner or later.

It seems along with the passing of our Queen much of what she supported has also gone with her. It’s very sad to think that there is little else apart from materialism/hedonism in its place. We can no longer take anything for granted. It’s time for Christians to hold fast to their faith in Jesus and all He taught because persecution is no doubt coming our way.

I think people are afraid to be accused of Racism. Example if you say your a Christian then you could lose your Job. or being deemed as a bigot and celebrating diversity.

Not if we start to raise our voice. Talk about everyone’s European /US Christian heritage even if they aren’t believers. It’s their heritage . Their laws, customs and language. …don’t have to let this happen. I know people who aren’t believers that aren’t happy. The BBC is woke. I have made a point in my on-line shop to make that overtly Christian and it’s been popular - if I’m honest it’s been more popular than I thought . Lots of people who don’t want our historic traditions lost. So there is a market.

We are told everyday to celebrate diversity. But if you celebrate Christianity then your a bigot and racist. I know were workers are told to hide their crosses in case people are offended.

I believe it has emerged via Premier Christian News that the Iceland 'tick buns' were not really all that serious but a deliberate attempt to create controversy. Clever that it looks like someone in Iceland suggested the tick in the survey - doubt it would have arisen spontaneously from the public!
But seriously - by the best measure of serious faith, weekly attendance at church, the CofE barely has 1% of the population and is just under a quarter of all Christians by that statistic. And that CofE figure is a bit deceptive in that it is pretty much split down the middle and likely to lose around half its numbers when it finally comes down on one side in the sexuality issue.

We all knew this is how it would go. This is really minor stuff in comparison with whats coming. Remember God has control of all this. We were told thousands of years ago this would happen. Put on your armour and lets do all we can to stsnd together and support eachother. Unity. He is Risen! God Bless you all. 🙏

By the way, folks. There is no ' going to church ' in my King James Bible. There is no mandate from Almighty God to build church buildings. On the contrary, temple worship and sacrifice were totally abolished along with the priesthood by the Lord Jesus Christ at Calvary. Hebrews chapters 7-10 in a King James Bible.
You lot in the unbiblical ' denominations ' totally reject the Pure and Preserved word of Almighty God. The Holy Ghost cannot empower rebellious heretics meeting in their social clubs.
