I think one of the big issues is that, yeah, there were also pagan holidays that happened during the spring. There are only so many days in a year, and holidays have to be on ONE of those days. Seasonal celebrations and holidays are extremely common in all cultures, throughout time, for obvious reasons. But just because a Christian holiday (or a holiday of any religion) happens in the same season as another religion, it doesn't mean they're the same holiday or originate from the same holiday.

The word easter derived from Greek and Latin word "PASCHA", which is taken from the Hebrew "Pesach", meaning Passover. The Passover in Exodus 12:23. Paul was the first to connect the risen Christ to Passover in 1 Corinthians 5:7, he refers to Jesus as the paschal lamb who has been sacrificed for his people's salvation. Add to that the fact that Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with his disciples during Passover and it makes sense that even today the Feast of the Resurrection is connected with the Jewish holiday.
1 Corinthians 15:14 "If Christ has not been raised, then empty is our preaching; empty, too, is your faith."
Passover Meal remembers the deliverance of Israel from Egypt, which was the central act of redemption in the Old Testament. Jesus now provided a NEW central of redemption to be remembered a new ceremonial. His last meal - what Christians called the "Last Supper" - was a Passover celebration. Paul, drawing a parallel with the sacrifice made by Jesus, referred to Christ as the Paschal lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7); hence, the Christians view of Christ as the spotless Lamb of God who by his death freed mankind from the bonds of sin. John 1:29 says "The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, 'Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!'" Christ slain as a sacrifice to redeem us to God by his blood. The Cross was the payment and the empty tomb is the receipt. Death has NO hold on redeemed man. When God's love and man's hate battled at the cross, God's love won. Since Jesus was raised from the dead, we can be resurrected in Him. 😊😊

Ishtar was the Babylonian fertility false goddess, and this is why Easter is celebrated with fertility objects, eggs, and rabbits. The Passover can be found in this, as the Catholic church wasneagernto marry paganism with Christian types of worship. Rome had many pagan false gods. Im not saying that you have to stop celebrating Easter, but it is disingenuous to say that Ishtar has nothing to do with why we call it Easter. The fertility worship can still be clearly seen in the eggs and rabbits that reproduce rapidly.

Paganism is a broad term that encompasses any non-Judeo-Christian religious practices, superstitions, and traditions antithetical to the Bible. For example, this includes atheism (evolutionism), polytheism (saint and angel worship), ancestor and ethnic worship (worshiping race), worshiping nature (climate change), sex worship (BDSMism, LGBTism, serial dating), and of course the idolization of power (any "might-makes-right" ideology.)

Easter was originally the celebration of Ishtar, the Assyrian and Babylonian goddess of fertility and sex. Her symbols (like the egg and bunny) were and still are fertility and sex symbols (or did you actually think eggs and bunnies had anything to do with the resurrection?) After Constantine decided to Christianize the Empire, Easter was changed to represent Jesus. But at its roots, Easter (which is how you pronounce Ishtar) is all about celebrating fertility and sex.- scientific American
Christmas is deeply rooted in paganism too. Jeremiah 10:3-4speaks of such pagan traditions “For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.”“They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.”
This was a ritual for child sacrifice and an abomination to the lord. This is also where the modern terminology idol idolatry idol tree doll baby doll come from. Yeshua’s birth day is not believed to be in December. It is a perversion of truth. We claim to celebrate his birth while making it all about us giving ourselves gifts, and others gifts out of wickedness...don’t believe me??? Don’t give any gifts any more..or do this.. every gift you give on Christmas must be anonymous and the receiving party can not know it was from you so you will not receive thanks... problem is we are tainted with a view that giving makes you feel good, it’s the good thing to do ect... but if you give someone a gift they give you praise what did you really do? Promote our own ego. This is why Yeshua said “when you give let not your left hand know what your right hand is doing” because if you give in private God see’s not man. Same thing with praying, he said do it in your closet yet we are lead to believe we should go to church and pray out loud with others. Just research and think about these things.

@@souljah4yeshua414 I don't care for UA-cam comment debates so this is the last word I'll say on this in general. Two things:
      1. I am aware of how Catholicism is a mix of Christianity and paganism when you get down to it. I am not Catholic, I am just referring to the Evangelical version of Easter and Easter as celebrated in general, which has the point of honoring Christ's resurrection.
      2. My faith in no way rides on the actual holiday of Easter itself being purely Christian in its naming/traditions. As I place my faith in The Bible, and in its text we have the death and resurrection of Jesus and I use the holiday as a celebration of that. So it really does not matter to me if the date, name of, and egg motif of Easter is pagan in origin or not, since those in no way impact The Bible nor the Christian faith. It is a moot point. I’m also an apologist, so I totally get how frustrating it can be to correct the same misconceptions over and over and over again. But it can still turn people away from God if we aren’t careful. So when the frustration starts getting into our tone and mannerisms, that’s a clear indicator that we need to take a break and abide in God for a while before we continue trying to help people.
Because that’s what it is, right? Helping people. We can forget that when we get frustrated.

It is well documented that Constantine infused Pagan traditions into the Catholic church back in the early 300s. This is one of em. Especially bc Jesus didn’t rise on a Sunday. It was most likely on the Sabbath. When MM came at dawn on Sunday morning he was already gone. Matthew 12:40 says he would be in the earth for 3 days and 3 nights. Friday to Sunday is only 2 days.

What to say because traditional Easter customs are regional and vary greatly across cultures. At least here in Finland, Easter mixes both the old pagan tradition and the Christian tradition.
Traditional Finnish Easter includes the belief that the success of Easter guarantees the success of spring, and its roots date back to the time when the ancient Finns awakened the spring brought by the phallos god Peko. Today, Peko is a thing of the past, but many old rituals have been adopted into Easter such as letting the cattle out on a Wednesday between Palm Sunday and Good Friday. The cattle carry the bell under their necks and the animals can pass through an alley built of birch branches, making Easter increase their fertility. And some still believe in this tradition and maintain it.
Finnish Easter also includes some sub-traditions that have emerged as a result of the contribution of these two traditions. Such as the tradition of children dressing up as witches on Palm Sunday and passing from house to house wishing them the good health, happiness and longevity. The children "virpoa" with the blooming willow branches, and then they exchange it for wages, that is, they get fruit, candy and money for it. Those willow branches symbolize the palm branches that greet the Passover triumph of Jesus and this masquerade play mimic and fool the evil spirits.
So the claim that Easter has nothing to do with paganism is not 100% true everywhere. In different places, old traditions have been mixed with Easter and new ones have been born at the same time. But it's only one part of Easter. That Christian part of Easter still comes from Jewish Passover. And it cannot be denied because Christianity was originally a Jewish revival movement that set out to expand. But when Christianity came to new territories it gained new local features and the development of traditions.

@@topologyrob Ishtar is indeed a fertility goddess of the Babylonian and Assyrian pantheon. Note that Babylon is in the East in the lands of Iraq and Iran today. The Christian community that resides in the East is the Orthodox Church. The Orthodox community has been there since the first century, descendants of the first believers in Jesus. In the Orthodox Church the word used for Easter is not Easter, it’s Pascha. Pascha is the Aramaic of the Hebrew word Pesach (Passover). So the Christians who live in the land where the pagan goddess Ishtar comes from don’t actually call the festival after her at all, they refer to the festival by its Jewish roots, the Pascha or the Passover.
In the Second Century, Melito of Sardis, a Jewish believer and Bishop of the community in Sardis, wrote a defence of Pascha in which he argued for the date of Pascha/Easter to be the 14th of Nisan. That is, he was arguing that Pascha should be celebrated at Passover and not the Sunday following Passover. Nisan, by the way, is the Jewish month in which Passover falls and it really is named after a Babylonian god. Interestingly, the majority of the current Jewish calendar is named after Babylonian gods and the Rabbis don’t seem to mind at all. Perhaps we should learn something from the Rabbis on this one.
Most of the earliest Christians were Jewish converts accustomed to the Jewish calendar. Consequently, they observed Passover at the same time as the Jews, on the evening of Nisan 14 and continued until Passover night.
The 2 protagonists of the controversy between passover and Easter Sunday. It was between Bishop Victor of Rome ( AD 189-199) and Bishop Polycrates of Ephesus. Bishop Victor championed the observance of Passover on the following date of the Jewish Passover (I.e Easter Sunday) , He tried to enforce the adoption of this date on the Christian church at large.
The council of Nicea in AD 325 put an end to all the controversy over the date of Easter by decreeing that all Christians should follow the Church of Rome by observing Easter on the first Sunday after the first full moon of spring. To Ensure that Easter would not be celebrated the following Sunday.
The anti Judaic motivation for the repudiation of the Jewish reckoning of the passover and the adoption of Easter Sunday instead is clearly expressed in Emperor Constantine’s Nicene letter quoted … The emperor urged the Christians to adopt the Easter Sunday in order to “ have nothing in common with the detestable Jewish crowd”
The fact is, Christ was a Jew, died a Jew as well. The biblical feasts are symbolic of the fulfillment of prophecies throughout the Bible and future prophecies. There is deep meaning to the biblical feasts Passover, Unleavened Bread, First Fruits, Day of Atonement, Feast of trumpets and feast of tabernacles. They are extremely applicable to Christ followers and 99% are sheep following Protestant or Catholic teachers with mostly unbiblical doctrine.

"There is no evidence that Easter is a pagan rebranded holiday" - Michael Jones (IP - InspiringPhilosophy)
    Visible confusion:
    - Easter Bunny (ies)
    - Easter eggs
    - Chocolate Bunny's
    - Baskets for Eggs and Chocolate
    - People hiding eggs/candy/chocolate to be found.
Having read the Bible I do not know of any connecting teachings of those above practices to the Biblical gospels... The only bunny or egg verse in the gospels is Luke 11:12 which I cannot connect to the observance of these practices that the world endorses during this time in North America. Baskets are in the Biblical Gospels (Matthew 14:20, Mark 8:8, Acts 9:25) however I lack the connection of these basket(s) references to anything to do with chocolate and eggs... when he says "evidence" I'm left perplexed of what he means. At the end he comments:
"There are no primary sources that say Easter or Christmas was a repackaged Pagan holiday."
    - Michael Jones (IP - InspiringPhilosophy)
I don't know why "primary sources" are more important then observable reality.
To be clear I am not supporting the idea that Easter has been officially rebranded as a Pagan holiday. Easter for some people is a Pagan rebranded holiday. Why a person celebrates something is usually different on a subjective level for each person. I am stating that there is visible evidence that there is a rebranding process in process. I think clearly that if you can't support those practices Biblically it should concern the Christian as to where those practices originated and where they will take you as a believer. The second quotation is also refutable on the basis of who is gifting you the knowledge of this holiday. For example imagine a non believer celebrating Easter without the knowledge of Christs death and resurrection. How is the non believer evidencing anything Christ-like or Biblical? IP's statement presupposes the basic knowledge of Christ as the primary knowledge required to celebrate Easter. That is not a given in the secular culture of today. If so please provide evidence. If you ask some random person why do celebrate Easter? and there answer is because its fun. Who are you to deny that answer in todays society... let me guess they need a "primary source" for that answer? Anybody can say they are celebrating Easter but only some can say why they do and that what they do during this time has a direct line back to Christ or anything Biblical.

What does the truth of Genesis have to do with Jesus? Genesis chapter one is the first revelation in the Bible of the Lord Jesus (Yesuha), as explained in the "Observations of Moses" PowerPoint presentation. The reason gentiles of today commemorate His birthday on the wrong date is because of what happened several years after the flood of Noah, which was in 2611 BC. Ham, one of the three sons of Noah, had a son named Cush, who later had a son named Nimrod.
Nimrod wanted to establish a lasting kingdom which would be devoted to himself. In order to keep the majority of the people in the eastern region, and to compete with the newly discovered ancient culture in the west (ruins of Egypt), Nimrod sought to be worshipped, and began an ambitious project. He got the idea from what he had heard was in (pre-flood) Egypt. He began a building project, namely the Tower of Babel, with himself being the central deity.
Certain sources outside the Bible say that Shem, Nimrod's great uncle (oldest son of Noah) tried to quell such ungodly worship by killing Nimrod and scattering his body parts across the countryside. By Nimrod being recognized as being a "god", his wife, named Saternalia, would be recognized as being a "goddess". She didn't want to lose that title and prestige, so she declared that Nimrod, upon mortal death, ascended up into the heavens and became the "sun god", and the project continued. I'm guessing at this time, God divided the continents, scattered mankind into 70 locations of three to four families each around the world, and created different languages in 2509 BC.
About eight months later, remaining in the land of Shinar, Saternalia became pregnant, and had to "rescue her situation". She then claimed that her late husband, which was now "the Sun", impregnated her with the rays of the Sun, and her son, which she named Tammuz, was born on the Winter solstice. Tammuz was worshiped as the reincarnation of the sun god "Nimrod", and his birthday is recognized up until this day, on December 25th.
Since mankind was scattered after the worship of Nimrod had begun, each culture around the world had its local version of sun god worship, with their particular deity having their birthday being on the Winter solstice. For example, the Egyptians had the god Ra, the Greeks had Zeus and Helios , and the Romans had Jupiter and Invictus, all having their birthday on what is now December 25th. All around the world, you will find the local gods, having a "sun halo" over their heads.

Some of the customs and symbols associated with Easter have their roots in pre-Christian traditions. For example, the Easter Bunny and exchanging eggs can be traced back to pagan rituals that celebrated fertility and new life. Eggs, in particular, have been a symbol of fertility and rebirth since ancient times, and they played a significant role in many spring festivals. The tradition of decorating eggs, known as pysanky, has been practised by Eastern European cultures for centuries.
The Easter Bunny is believed to have originated from the Germanic tradition, where the hare was associated with the goddess Eostre. Hares and rabbits were considered symbols of fertility due to their prolific breeding habits. German immigrants brought this tradition to America in the 18th century, and over time the Easter Bunny became a popular figure associated with the holiday.
Another popular Easter custom is the Easter egg hunt, in which children search for hidden eggs, often filled with candy or small toys. This activity is thought to have evolved from the ancient custom of searching for eggs in the spring as a symbol of new life.
Easter is also a time when many people enjoy special foods, such as hot cross buns, which are sweet rolls marked with a cross to represent the crucifixion of Jesus. In many countries, lamb is a traditional Easter meal, symbolizing the sacrificial Lamb of God.
Easter celebrations often include religious services, such as the Easter Vigil, held the night before Easter Sunday. During this service, candles are lit to represent the light of Christ entering the world, and the congregation renews their baptismal vows. Easter Sunday itself is marked by festive church services and the singing of hymns that celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.
In summary, the origins of Easter are a blend of pre-Christian and Christian traditions. The holiday has evolved to include a mix of religious observances and cultural customs that celebrate the renewal of life, Jesus Christ's resurrection, and spring's arrival.

However, it's essential to recognize that these are cultural and regional adaptations rather than fundamental elements of the faith.
As you mentioned, the tradition of colouring eggs red in Orthodox Christianity differs from the more secular practices in other parts of the world. For example, the red symbolizes the blood of Christ, shed on the cross, and the egg itself represents the resurrection and new life.

charliejackson5492, the tradition of the Easter Bunny and Easter eggs has a rich history that intertwines both pagan and Christian traditions. Originally, the hare and egg were symbols of fertility in pagan festivals celebrating spring. Over time, as Christianity spread, these symbols were incorporated into Christian Easter celebrations, particularly in Germanic regions. If only Christians were this passionate about observing the seven festivals as delineated in Torah. The biblical seven festivals are vastly more fulfilling and actually have deep spiritual and prophetic meaning. Emptying your house of leavening agents teaches us how Christ removed sin from us, and how me must often search out ourselves for sin and rid ourselves of it. Plus eating unleavened bread (for 7 days) reminds us of how Christ was perfectly sinless, and how we are spiritually sustained by Him because He was without sin. If you have the opportunity, instead of observing Easter through Christian traditions rather read up and try observe Passover, Unleavened Bread and First Fruits in accordance to the new moon and weekly Sabbath calendar. Then on First Fruits count 49 days plus 1 for Pentecost. They are filled with deep spiritual and prophetic meaning. Shalom and may Passover be a blessing for you all.

    • @mattburns617
      @mattburns617 2 роки тому

@@Lucid.dreamer Defunct? No. Mainstream Christianity misunderstands what Christ said when He said He came to fulfil it. To fulfil in Hebrew means to keep, to obey, it does NOT mean to do away with. What the NT does is give one the power to obey the OT through the change of heart that comes from repentance. Also, Christ never said the Sabbath was done away with, rather He highlighted that doing good overrides any religious tradition (especially those man-made) on the day because doing good is the central theme of Scripture. God is more concerned with a person's actions, to show biblical love, than the rituals and ceremonies, but that never meant the rituals and ceremonies were no longer required. What Christians go and do is interpret His words to mean that one can now do one's customary work on the day when the NT never said that. It's the same with pork, nowhere does the NT ever declare it is acceptable to eat pork. Peter's vision had nothing to do with pork, but was all about Jewish prejudices against Gentiles. You see, it's not the pork meat itself that makes a person unclean (in an unfavourable position with God) but the decision from the heart to disobey God that makes one unclean before God. From out of the heart comes such things as adultery, lying, etc and choosing to disobey a direct command, such as "do not eat pork." And the mainstream Christian view has a big problem, Zechariah 14 says the Gentiles who survive the Tribulation will literally go yearly to keep the Feast of Tabernacles and will even take sacrificial offerings to Jerusalem. Here you claim it defunct, yet Ezekiel (40-48) envisions the temple that will be built for the Millennial Reign of Christ, with the Levitical priesthood and sacrifices fully restored that will last a thousand years. Even Isaiah 66 says the Gentiles will keep the Sabbath Rest and lunar calendar. The Torah was never done away with, that's a lie that crept into the church around the second and third centuries once the first believers were gone. But here's the gist of it: the Jews are the sign-bearers, not the Gentiles. During the Millennial Reign of Messiah the Jews will literally keep all the laws in Torah, not to earn salvation of course but for the symbolic meaning, like a theatre play, an act, a memorial. Salvation was always a matter of faith, even before the laws were given, hence the ritual and ceremonial laws were always symbolic, even the moral laws are in many ways symbolic. Most of the laws do not apply to Gentiles who do not live in Israel, nor are we commanded to go live in Israel. See it like this, during the Millennium a Gentile family will go to Jerusalem and they will witness the Jews performing sacrifices, then the son asks his father, "why are they doing that?" The father then responds, "well you see son, that lamb they are sacrificing symbolises Christ who was innocent when He was condemned to death."
And in regards to Colossians 2. See it like this metaphor, Christ didn't nail the Highway Code (called in the UK, or as it's called in the USA, the Rules of the Road) to the cross, rather He nailed the fine you received in the mail to the cross, the paper fine that had your name on, photographic evidence, the law you broke, the penalty for violating that specific law, and the court date. The Highway Code still exists and is still being enforced and we are commanded to obey it, but Christ has paid ALL the fines you got and will get. Also, Paul was saying, and I paraphrase for clarity, "don't worry when the pagans judge you when they hear and see you keeping the Sabbath Rest, the biblical lunar calendar and the feasts, because we know these all have deeper spiritual and prophetic meanings in Christ. He is our head who guides us, and we the body are of Christ." Yet mainstream Christianity completely misinterprets Paul. It wasn't a situation of Christian legalists versus non-legalists but about Christians who were following God's laws as delineated in the Torah versus the ascetic pagan religions and philosophies that was influencing their new way of life.
      Shalom.

The concept of Christian holy days is rather foreign to New Testament Christianity. Easter is a Christianized repackaging of the Passover. There is no record of first century (apostolic) Christians celebrating a holy day commemorating the resurrection of Jesus. On the first day of the week, we are told, the disciples gathered to break bread, presumably a reference to the Lord's Supper but that's as close as we come to a Christian holy day and it seemed to be celebrated every first day of the week. Paul makes mention of a gathering in Corinth on the first day of the week and this is the biblical tradition that is followed today. But no Easter and no Christmas. That junk didn't start until after the apostles were dead. It's the early signs of apostasy (i.e. proto-catholicism).
