    The Axon 7 has been nothing but pleasant surprises to me after launch.
    The camera was significantly improved with native RAW support, and it also stands as one of the few phones running Android 7.1+, among other improvements.
    ZTE's update reputation was pretty much zero, mainly owning to the company being a relative unknown in the Android space, but this has been a great surprise. Kinda wished I bought one still.

      I can't say I've been happier to get a phone back LOL. Usually I'm happy to send off a gadget. The mid-rangers from last year are some of my faves, the phones I really want to see if they get updates.

    Perfect close, well done indeed Juan. I just have to say thank you! I've been waiting for this video and wondering if it might never get done. This phone deserves it's praise, it got better and better after each update. It never let me down and to this day it still hasn't been scratched. Dropped 100 times, but no scratch. My point is it has been a tank and the battery life is still going strong. Daydream viewing definitely gets your headset warm, probably why they are going with standalone sets, but the experience is still great and sure to improve. The audio is everything it was made out to be. I'm loving my decision to give ZTE a try and now I'm looking forward to see their follow-up. I am praying they don't mess it up cuz this Axon 7 is an instant CLASSIC. DesignWorks did a great job with the design... it's a beautiful device especially if you can rock it without a case. I usually don't cuz I want to keep it in mint condition. Spigen makes great rubber cases but D-Brand Skins are good too. Great job Juan, you gave this phone some well-deserved shine. Look forward to watching more POCKETNOW!

    I've had my Axon 7 for six months. Still in love with it from the first day I opened the package. The updates have been great from the software fixes to the updates in the camera. Wifi connection is still strong, audio is still phenomenal, performance is still great for a smartphone at this price and with just a Snapdragon 820. I upgraded from the Samsung s4 and I haven't regretted it.

    • @SammyOdds
      @SammyOdds 7 років тому +5

      You know I was about to buy an LG by the end of this week (V10) but honestly the number of comments I see about bootloops for their most popular devices is really pushing me away. I dreamt about holding the V10 for so long but now I guess I'll have to go with another OEM. Such a shame, my first LG was the Optimus G and I really wanted to get back in with them due to nostalgia :(.

    • @Emicraze55

      @ivand5699 7 років тому +8

      Boot loop means an infinite loop while booting with ZERO chances to recover or repair the phone due to a damage SOC, and yes LG phones tend to do that since the G4.

      Given what I've seen about even Samsung devices and HW issues, it's really becoming clear that whether you pay $400 or $1000, you're rolling the dice on a HW device coming from the same factory in China.
      Might as well pay less and roll the same dice as with a $1000 device.

      Yeah, I got the HTC 10 half a year ago. Back then, I was debating between the HTC 10 vs OnePlus 3T vs Axon 7. I skipped on the Axon because the signals sucked. At that time, there wasn't any software updates for the fix. So I ended up with the 10 since I'm a speaker guy. Then I found out that the boom sound on the 10 is weaker than the HTC 9 / 8 / even the freaking m7..... I still like my 10 enough not to change until it dies on me.

    my only gripe with the phone has been the dust leakage into the camera unit. I replaced it once because so much dust. had gotten in that every picture I took looked like it was shot in soft focus. and everything was great for the last 3 months but I just started noticing a dark speck in every picture I take, so it might need to be replaced for a second time... it's not a massive complaint as their US warranty support is fantastic, but still it's something I hope they address in the sequel, I really hope there's a sequel, this phone is fantastic.

      @SomeGadgetGuy 7 років тому +10

      I'll happily join you Shellyman in calling this a mid-ranger. No shame in a phone which launched at less than half the price of a Note 7 absolutely killing it performance-wise. Most folks aren't going to care about made up titles like "mid-price premium flagship killer budget flagships". When we see phones range in price from $100 to $1000, if it lands in the middle, it's in the middle of the range.

      Note: I have had the Axon 7 for 4 months
      It has a competetive SOC but there is more to a flagship then just that. The camera was good but not S7/iphone 6s good. Audio was the only saving grace, but then a M9 is better then this.
      Also the worthless physical keys sucks. No backlightning is irritating and almost a dealbreaker for me.
      Wish they gone onscreen buttons like the 7 mini

    After researching about Axon 7's microphone performance, I was finally convinced that it would not distort when recording concerts. I then finally moved on to the Axon 7 from my Lumia 640XL and oh boy couldn't i have been more on point. What Juan has forgotten to mention in this episode is how effing amazing the microphone performance of this phone was and still is. Concert recordings don't drop frames in the dark (4K H.264 stable 30fps), and sound quality is great. I still wish stock camera apps implemented WP's method of zooming in and out with a camera where you'd slide your finger up or down rather than 2-finger pinch-in or pinch-out.

    My axon 7 went to hell and back... A few waist high drops on to concrete, nothing but a scuff. However after it suffered some water damage the screen started to prematurely burn in... But for $80 the company sent me a brand new phone 8 months later! Love this phone and the customer service from ZTE. Also the front firing speakers with Dolby are outstanding, so much so that i can't possibly imagine going back to anything less

    I bought the Axon 7 last year and was thinking of replacing it this year but it has improved so much that I can't see anything on the market that is significantly better so I shall just keep the Axon. OK, the camera might not be quite as good as the Samsung s8 but it does all I want and the front facing speakers easily out perform Samsung's tinny efforts. just so long as ZTE keep the security updates rolling out.

    I've had this phone since April 10th and I have never regretted my purchase! It's super fast (compared to my previous S4), it has awesome speakers which is very important to me because I watch a lot of UA-cam, it has a fingerprint scanner (not the fastest, but I'm glad that there is one already), the amoled screen is awesome, and I love the build quality! Sure, the software might not be the best, but it's pretty decent. And as I have said before, the fingerprint isn't the fastest and sometimes it doesn't read my finger. Oh, and the battery life is great!

    I bought Axon 7 in January 2017. I'm not buying a new phone every year, so it was a big decision for me. Price was 440 Euros in Germany, it's quite a bit more expensive than in USA. When I went to buy it, there was Christmas discount on Galaxy S7, I could get it for 490, but I still went for Axon 7. After almost a year of using it, I'm still happy for my decision.

After tweaking the Dolby Atmos equalizer the audio is even more powerful and richer, and if it wasn't for those fantastic dual speakers the screen to body ratio would have been very high with its already thin bezels! And speaking of body, how can you not love a phone that was designed by BMW!

I came across this phone by accident but the more I've seen about it the more I want one! One of the main reason is the sound. I have had a couple of Blu phones, and the sound is really bad from the back speakers, and the lower ends one though they look nice and have a very long battery are slow. See, the Axon is $400 and packs in pretty much flagship guts. With that price:performance ratio, it's getting harder to justify paying twice for a flagship depending on what you're looking for due to diminishing returns.

    My issue with it has been the camera. I'm on my 2nd Axon 7 and it's because of the camera sensor shaking. It's bad and many others are reporting it. But outside of that,its amazing.

    I have had the Axon 7 for a few months now, and it is amazing. Great performance and battery life along with build quality. The only major gripe i have with this phone is the camera in less than perfect lighting, ESPECIALLY for the front facing camera. Still a great phone nonethless.

    Still have my Axon 7 and love it. The SW updates really did help fix a lot of the major issues, but one that still persists is related to your comments about the vibration feeling weaker. I don't believe it's the motor itself, but the software driving it, because I've had my vibration motor completely stop working, and then start up again at random, along with varying levels of intensity from that motor, again at random. I suppose that could be HW related but seems to be more of a SW bug in how the OS drives that motor. Not a total deal breaker but an annoyance, regardless. Also noticed a minor increase in battery drain, especially with the latest OTA, but not enough to make a lot of noise about.
    Pretty sure I'm going to be keeping this phone until it either becomes too outdated to perform, or the HW begins to fail. Not bad for $400, off contract, when people buying S7's for far more will just replace them every year or two, at most, with newer phones.

    I HAD an Axon 7 and loved everything about it. Yes there were compromises to cut cost (screen isn't laminated, plastic border separating the metal unibody and the front glass, vibration motor is terrible, non-backlit capacitive keys), but EVERYTHING else was absolutely worth the money. The software got much better with the latest updates and ran silky smooth and the camera was much better than many people made it out to be. The Speakers and audio quality are in a league of their own. Great bang for buck but alas, QC was a bitch with my unit and 6 months into having my axon 7, the type C port blew using the factory cable and charger, and I had no more warranty as I unlocked the bootloader. Bummer.

    They really did this right. I squeeze years out of a phone (last was old rooted custom ROM that supported SD linked storage) and the 2 year support helped sell it to me as it was well into 2017 when I bought, but they had a good reputation already for updates and support and it already have Oreo path upgrade listed. + daydream etc.

    I have one issue. Mine took a bad fall. No physical damage except a minor scratch on the screen. But it messed up my buttons. So just downloaded software buttons. But I started using mi pop alot after and it became a must have for me lol.
    But after the last update on the US model. It keeps turning it self off and it gets annoying. Just hope they update that soon.
    But this phone easily gets a 8.5/10.
    Pros
    - Good battery
    - Great camera except in low light
    - audio
    - price
    -design
    - good support
    cons
    - Even with updates the signal and wifi is still a bit off. But not where it makes it a deal breaker.
    - Camera can freeze and not focus. But that may just be software related.
    - Before my buttons quit. ( it's just the capacitive buttons.) I still didn't care for them. To close. And no light.
    It's easyly worth the money. Amazing phone. But like every other phone out there. It's not perfect. But no phone is.
