      You were greatly miss informed. The issue with watching ad recording at the same time is due to a dome being used as you may be watching something that is coming off say sat 119 and something else wants to be recorded on 110. Then that is an issue. With a Trav'ler, you are on all sats at the same time.Been doing it for years even with the 411K and a USB drive before we got our first Hopper. Now we have the really cool Hopper 3 with this little work around. :-)

    Former technician here. Something that might be better, if you're able to change the lnb, I would just get a hybrid lnb and replace the standard lnb. That way you can bypass the need to have a switch and a power adapter and you'll only need one cable from the dish.

      How do you get your winegard dish to find the satellites hooked up like that? Will the brain box that you power on still do a satellite search hooked up that way? Even if the system is from 2014? Thank you BTW 😊

    I’ve had a Hopper 3 in my rv for about a year. The one thing I found out right away is the dish does not get enough power to unstow itself and locate the satellites and stows it self. The only way I can get enough power to it is to unplug the satellite in cable at the box and then reconnect it when all the satellites have been located and it works great. With your conversion is there enough power to the dish to locate the satellites without unplugging it

    I have a Hopper 3 in my home. I tried to use it in a used motorhome we recently purchased. It has the Winegard Trav'ler system. I couldn't get any channels, just able to access my recordings. I found your video, which I think was very easy to follow the instructions & ordered the DPH42, the solo hub & cables & hooked everything up, per your nstructions. It still doesn't work. On the diagnostics screen, it doesn't show the DPH42 switch. Our LNB says it's a RN dp Plus Digital LNBF / A11203-1F100HBFB. Do I need a different LNB? Thanks!

    David - Great video as always! I am in the process of converting from DirectV to Dish and have the Winegard parts to do so, waiting on Dish to provide me with the Hopper 3 and Joey's. I noticed on the DPH42 switch it says to mount it in the direction of the arrows which would make it standing up on end. How did you mount it and has it given you any trouble?

    I have a 2012 traveler I am changing from direct TV to Dish, have just opened a Dish, with a Hopper 3, account and had dish install and start it in my home and now want to move it to our 5th wheel and get it connected to the Traveler. Moving the Hopper 3 back and forth from the RV to home when we travel as we did with the Direct TV DVR. I have purchased the Dish SK-1000 conversion Kit, the DPH 42 switch and the Hybrid solo Node and installed them as described by your video and the Winegard information. In your video and one of your comments to someone you talk about running a "test installation", but never talk about how to do that. I get no TV and the DPH 42 switch does not show in diagnostics. But it appears that there is signal strength for all three satellites. Any help will be appreciated. Two specific questions: 1] How to run the test installation, or where to learn how and 2] Do think the Hopper3 can be moved back and forth between the Traveler and the house satellite with out resetting it every time, as I was able to do with Direct TV?

      Did you ever find an answer to this?
      We had DTV at home, 4 TV's, put a Travl'er on the 5th wheel, moved the main receiver and two of the house receivers everytime we left, never turned off the receiver in 50,000 miles, never a problem. Switched to DIsh when we moved (and don't like it). Have yet to find a simple solution to use the roof top and portable as needed compared to DTV. Winegard has told me the adapter parts will not auto locate the 61 and 72 SAT's, that I will have to manually search and only use one at a time.

    Converted my Traveler from Direct TV to Dish. I have 3 coaxials running to Traveler, Receiver 1 to Coax 1, Receiver 1 DVR connection to Coax 2 and Receiver 2 to Coax 3. My question is 'Can I make the power inserter to the DPH42 switch connection in my entertainment center (instead of the roof)?' So the coaxials connections would be done with 1ft coax; between the receiver to the hub; hub to the power inserter; power inserter to the DPH42 switch; switch to coax 1 which goes to the traveler terminal 1.
    Also could you clarify the connection on the solo node/hub. Receiver connect to which terminal? The power inserter connects to the "to ODU and the To Host connects to coaxial that goes to the roof, Coaxial 1.
    Thanks in advance, you are a great source for so much great advice.

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  3 роки тому

      Hi...I am sorry to say I am kind of lost at what you are asking. But the power inserter would be inside the coach as it is not made of outdoor use. The DPH42 switch can be outside right next to the dish as I had shown using just small patch cables. As far as the Solo Hub and the power inserter...You hook the Hopper to the HOST and then the ODU (Out Door Unit) to the power inserter and then the power inserter to the DP42 switch. Hope this makes sense.

    Will this same thing work if you have a Hopper with Sling? I’m having a heck of a time getting my setup to work. Dish sent me a Solo Node but it’s different from the Hybrid Solo Node that David showed in the video which is inside the RV. The solo node they sent me to install on the roof has 2 cables coming in and 2 cables going out. I do have a hybrid tap also inside and that is in order for my Joey to connect to my Hopper. But my Joey still doesn’t seem to want to cooperate. Just wondering if anyone has experience with the Sling.

      How old is your Trav'ler? I ask for if it was not manufactured this year, doing what you can can, will, make for issues down the the road. For as you had seen, voltage differences and that runs through their board. Newer units do not have this issue but seeing I can help more people, as there are a lot of them out their, I went the direction of safety not knowing what someone had and this method will work on both the older and newer systems without issue.

The reason I ask is, we’re looking to go full time in our coach starting this winter and I plan to have a new Winegard Traveler dish installed for the purpose of doing exactly what you’ve done in thus video. We currently have a Winegard In-Motion dome on our coach with a Wally receiver and, because we currently don’t have the capability you’ve described in this video, I want to convert to the setup you’ve specified here so we can record more channels and watch shows while recording as that’s not possible now with our current setup.

      Hi...Congrats on looking to go full Time! You mentioned "... I plan to have a new Winegard Traveler dish installed ..." If it is new, the new ones, as long as you get new stock and not older stock from a place that does not sell them often and have one just "laying around", the current production SK-1000 (DPH LNB) is compatible with the Hopper3 out of the box. Have 2016 Travlr and followed your great video, bought the Hopper 3, DPH42 switch with power inserter. solo hub, cab les, etc. Carefully hooked everything up (triple checked) and powered up. TV saw the Hopper and its serial ID numbers, paired the remote.and the diagnostics menu looked to be working OK. Until it got to the screen asking for WiFi connection- then it all locked up. I tried to reset but I ended up with the TV seeing the Hopper starting up but then a signal loss message. Nothing I did helped. I called Dish but they were no help (since I had a "signal loss"). Wanted to check that my Travlr was OK so I removed the DPH switch and all components and reinstalled my old Dish reciever and all works well so I assume my Travlr is OK. Any ideas? Thanks!

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  6 років тому +1

      Just don't tell them that part. Just give them your home address etc. Don't mention the coach. But you will need to set it up as mentioned before trying the Hopper 3 as it will not work with the Trav'ler without the changes. Also, based on when the Trav'ler was manufactured, if it was this year, you can use the Hybrid LBN and Hybrid Solo Hub vs the switch and solo hub. This one.... amzn.to/2GEFxdB Then coming up on the roof you just hook up 1 cable from below to port C on the bottom where the cables go into the Trav'ler, then just hook up the C cable coming out of the top of it into Port 1 of the LNB. Put the Solo Hybrid Hub by by the receiver and you are good to go! Less costly also and cleaner as you also then do not need the power inserter that comes with the switch. This setup requires the Trav'ler to be NEW this year as they made changes inside of it for it to work. The way I showed in the video still will work no matter when it was made. But if new, I would go the cleaner route with the new LNB.

      It all depends on your satellite Bruce. The Wally’s are for mobile satellites like the Roadtrip, the Hopper is a home satellite. The only reason David can use the Hopper in his rig is because he has the Travelr.. if you don’t have it you are stuck with Wally’s like me.. they aren’t bad the software is near identical but your not going to get all the fancy 16 tuners, just one (Two depending on your sat) tuners per Wally. Also, the Joeys are extensions for the Hopper they won’t work for the Wally.

    any way to upgrade the PVR to a solid state Drive (SSD)?

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  6 років тому +1

      Not sure, never researched it but seeing the OS is on it etc etc, my not be that easy and unlikely. A 2TB drive, which is what the Hopper 3 has in it, will run you $749 for a good Samsung drive. A quick search shows nothing on doing it. Thus is why I just unplug it, no reason not to unless your passengers watch shows when driving.

    It's a "hybrid solo hub" not a hybrid solo node.... Two totally different parts...

    How many programs can you record simultaneously?

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  6 років тому

      A simple search reveals 16 tuners.

      You can record up to 16 different programs simultaneously without having to re-aquire more then the three satellites and reposition the dish?

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  6 років тому

      Would not think you would need to move anything for it only supports 110, 129, and 129. So not sure what you are asking. If you do a search everything I see reads 16 tuners.

      Not sure what you’re asking either, do you have the Travelr? It’s more of a Home dish for the RV so once it’s positioned it acquires all three satellites at the same time. I have the Roadtrip T4 which you can watch Dish while driving down the road but it only locks one satellite at a time so if the DVR wants to record a show on a different satellite or the back TV wants to watch or record on a different satellite you have to change the channel up front to reposition the satellite (only takes a second to jump to another one).. it all depends on the equipment you have. I have two Wally boxes so the second coax David plugged in on the roof which isn’t used on his is used for my bedroom Wally. With the Hopper they all go through the main coax.

    Outstanding info on how to upgrade to the Hopper 3... We will do it...
    Use to like Matt Damon but he is so far to the left in his political views I just turn the channel now instead of watching him..He does not live in reality of the real world but in a Hollywood concept of dreamland... LOL
    Thanks again for the Hopper info...

    Why are you Dish people and not direct tv?

    • @DavidBott
      @DavidBott  6 років тому

      This video answers that... ua-cam.com/video/PrA_uTbXkt8/v-deo.html Also, Dish as a Pay as You Go Plan for those that are not on the road all the time.

    Lots of misinformation here. If you install a Hopper 3 this way, you will eventually damage your traveler dish and the hopper.

      Not sure where you get your information, but I work with Winegard DIRECTLY. So I can assure you, this is NOT an issue. Not to mention that Winegard has now released this information is a replacement document. See 3. RP-SK01: outsideourbubble.com/downloads/Replacement_LNB%20Rev2%209-18_LR.pdf
