Because we are a monarchist country owned and governed by the Queen of England and since we have been a country we gave had a queens birthday holiday. It's currently the only day we honour the Queen. I mean, there's an entire week dedicated to honouring indigenous Australians.
So we are neither owned nor Governed by the Queen, for a start. We are historically monarchist, but not bound by it - it’s an archaic symbolic arrangement with an important political trigger that should be removed.
