Not really. Carson is more of a Father figure to Lady Mary than Lord Grantham really is. You forget as a child she and her sisters spent more time with the servants than they did with their own parents. An hour after tea everyday.
@Ber P. I can't see Lord Grantham taking his daughter to the park, playing board games with them, or even reading them a bedtime story at night. He acts like that with his grandkids, to a degree. Lord Grantham may have been raised during the height of the Victorian and Edwardian era, but the rules of being close to your children did not fully apply to all of British Peerage.

I think it's also because Mary certainly liked Sybil far more than Edith. Even when Sybil and Tom were keeping their feelings secret, Mary knew early on but never ratted on Sybil, and though she was cautious because she didn't quite understand, and was raised to value the aristocracy, she was always kind to Tom and Sybil despite it.

Mine too!! Tom and Mary had such a genuine friendship. Tom made Mary Sybbie's godmother. And Mary never made Tom feel like she didn't like him, even if she did not understand his relationship with Sybill. She openly called him her brother, but just brother in law, but brother. They genuinely loved each other in a platonic way. And not as, he's my sibling by marriage and perfect for my sister. But what I saw with them was true friendship. I wish they would have let us enjoy the rest of the wedding- their vows, 1st dance etc. given this wedding was 2 tv years and 8 years in the making - the fans deserved to see more.
I can't believe it took me so many years to get the fancy to watch Downton. Binged, just watched the wedding. At last. The ladies in the family thought They were on tenterhooks till M and M got together! I was in such suspence, that was some drawn out tension. ❤ I was convinced she'd be waiting at the church without a groom, recieving a message there'd been a car crash . . How dumb, Lord G telling them they were ruined before the honeymoon. Before they married! Now im anxious to see the lovely Edith marry her Beau. Im expecting that car crash again, or he conks out 😢
"Love in position in one handsome package. Who could ask for more?" That's rich coming from the woman who later falls in love with and marries a marquess and ends up outranking her entire family at the end of the series.
I don't get why what Edith said was perceived in a negative light. It could not have been more complimentary. Yet, Mary rolled her eyes and their mother responded "Never mind Edith." So what was wrong with "Love and position in one handsome package. Who could ask for more?"
Fancy Brooks Because Edith was a jealous character and when she looked at Matthew and Mary, all she saw was what she had struggled to find; love and position in one.
@@fancybrooks3156 I perceived her words as an expression of frustration, disappointment and (understandable) jealousy- I'm way behind in the story line, but I take it that things didn't look very promising for Lady Edith just then, correct? Judging from her reaction when Cora said to her that she would be next (to marry).
i love everything about this. to be honest, up until the wedding was actually done, i thought something would go wrong. one of both wouldn't show up, changing their minds, some unexpected drama. anything. but this was just beautiful. very soft, very elegant. everyone, family+staff, looked proud and happy.
Since it was the actor’s decision to leave the show and not the showrunners, in my head Matthew Crawley still runs Downton and is in the castle with Mary in his 80s, with the snow falling and them in peace and love forever.
I don't understand why people hate Mary so much- she was snobbish, yes, but she was kind and caring towards many, in her own way. And the striking difference between Mary and Edith is that Mary wished her well on her marriage while Edith's attention was on the position Mary would be getting. Besides, Edith's betrayal was completely heartless. Mary didn't do a good job by telling Bertie about Marigold, but at least she apologized later. Besides, Bertie needed to know the truth at some point.

@@kyleenglot9184 i don’t think she would have ratted on edith either. Maybe as a revenge on something, she wouldn’t have helped edith but she wouldn’t rat on her. Mary has values.
I love that Tom was the best man at both of her weddings. I was so upset that we did not see more of their friendship in the newest movie.
They're both strong charactors. I'd say we have plenty of slamming doors and shouting matches to come.
Thank you Tom, it's such a comfort to know that we're not in the dark.
Too bad it was cut short. Still sad about that
Mary looked so lovely and happy
She was most anxious for Carson’s reaction ... lovely scene!
One word: Magical❤
Oh how I was waiting for this day❤
Mrs. Hughes and the flower girls were so sweet
I love mrs Hughes and miss O’Brien and Alfred (is it?) being so kind and supportive of the little flower girls
I know it was cute. At least O’Brien has a molecule of humanity lol
I love Downton's theme music. Lovely!!! PEACE to ALL ... and STAY SAFE and HEALTHY.
My heart and eyes are with emotion...
I have this whole series but it's nothing like the thrill of seeing this for the first time seeing the characters change as the series gose on. I purposely waited a long time to see it over again.
So lovely they love each other so much
Matthew and Mary, just the perfect couple!
The little flower girls were so cute
I haven't seen these series, but this bride is so lovely! the dress looks flawless in her type of body. She looks comfortable and etheral, like an angel.
I suggest you watch it. A lot happens.
Mary was so beautiful !
I love her and Matthew ❤️ sweetest couple. Best chemistry !
How utterly gorgeous Sybil was, inside and out. I'm still raging they killed her off. 🙁
The actress Jessica Brown Findlay quit the series!
She wanted out of her contract.......
@@MillieonaVespa I've often wondered if she (and Dan Stevens) ever regretted that decision ...
KingsDaughter1958 same. I’m pretty sure they both would have gotten more success just staying in the show. Sadly it’s not like their careers have taken off in a crazy way after leaving...
@@gee2541 "To each his own." Maybe for their own peace of mind, they had to step out of their secure comfort zones to try new things.
Carson and Lord Grantham both looking like the proudest father on the planet ❤❤❤ I especially love the relationship between Carson and Mary. He is the only person able to look behind Mary's mask of arrogance and coldness.
That tiara is true! I saw a news story about the shop that rented it to the show… beautiful!
"Very nicely M'lady."
I'M NOT CRYING YOU'RE CRYING
Meraviglioso!
🌸🌸🌸
Beautiful ! Who does not like a wedding ?
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, we need an ENTIRE video compilation of Lady Edith and Lord Hexam's wedding. 💒
Very interesting processional. The Little flower girls walking behind the bride was something I have never seen before.
The year 1920, same year my mother's parents got married. Mary in the wedding dress makes me tear up every time.
The way Carson and her dad looked as she ascended the stairs made my cry
Matthew 😭😭😭😭😭
Exactly!
I love the bit when Mary said, "Will I do, Carson?"
Awww the three little girls were so cute!!! 😍😍❤️ also, Hughs and Obrien (astonishingly) were so kind
Right?? O’Brien and Thomas seem to have soft spots where kids are involved, they hold back their venom.
Very recently I came across the box set in a charity shop and I purchased it. What a wonderful series. I wish I could travel back in time to that era of well the series shows us of what life was like. Boxset came to €6:00.
I also have the boxset. A bit more expensive then your great deal.
Great show but wouldn’t like to go back at this period… first I would probably have to endure the two WW, second I would probably be a maid …🤔
I love the way the organ sound track makes a relatively small Anglican Church sound as if it is York Minster.
Can wait for the movie I,m so excited
Ugh, I'm so re-watching Downton Abbey, it's really one of my favourite shows ever.
I've only got to watch it twice season 1 started over. I've only been able to see a couple of clips of O'Brien and I want to know more and I don't understand why more clips are not on here. I seen the clip regarding the soap and the clip where someone said she was leaving.
Пересмотрела фильм несколько раз с большим удовольствием!!!
Mary looks so radiant. As Lord Grantham should say: "... a bride on the brink of heaven".
Just so beautiful ❤️
one of series scene that made me cry of happiness
All the comments on here is like this is real life. Hahaha. So sweet. On that note this is te he best series I am watching. No raunchy or depressing content like most series on Netflix. So easy to watch
Love it. Kudos to the producers and writers
The most beautiful bridal dress. Am I the only person crying?
No you are most certainly not.
4:18 Mary really looks like Cora there!!
Yeah they were both really well cast. I have no idea where Edith gets her blonde hair from
I wish they would have let us enjoy the rest of the wedding- their vows, 1st dance etc. given this wedding was 2 tv years and 8 years in the making - the fans deserved to see more.
I know. But it may be very different in the 1920’s. Maybe the just had the wedding, ate and left to go in there honeymoon 🤷🏼♀️
Downton Abbey é uma das melhores séries que assisti adorei ....💕🤗
Mary is so beautiful !
I can't believe it took me so many years to get the fancy to watch Downton.
Binged, just watched the wedding. At last.
The ladies in the family thought They were on tenterhooks till M and M got together!
I was in such suspence, that was some drawn out tension. ❤
I was convinced she'd be waiting at the church without a groom, recieving a message there'd been a car crash .
She said the same thing as Sybil, only in different words.
@@fancybrooks3156 she said something out of a sense of obligation, not love and genuine best wishes like Sybil did
Fancy Brooks
Because Edith was a jealous character and when she looked at Matthew and Mary, all she saw was what she had struggled to find; love and position in one.
I miss these people so much.
i love everything about this. to be honest, up until the wedding was actually done, i thought something would go wrong. one of both wouldn't show up, changing their minds, some unexpected drama. anything. but this was just beautiful. very soft, very elegant.
everyone, family+staff, looked proud and happy.
I thought that too but Mary and Matthew were dying to be together I doubt one wouldn’t show up tho
I miss this show. 😕😍🇧🇷
“Will I do, Carson?” 😊
Bellissio Dawnton Abbey!!!!!!#!!!!👋👋👋👋👋👋👋👋
Since it was the actor’s decision to leave the show and not the showrunners, in my head Matthew Crawley still runs Downton and is in the castle with Mary in his 80s, with the snow falling and them in peace and love forever.
Es una gran serie y me encanta, ojalá la vuelvan a pasar, por favor y gracias. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you.
Love Downton abby ❤❤❤
Nunca mais haverá uma série como esta!
It was the same year my mom's mother got married. I could only imagine....
La mia serie preferita❤😘....ho visto ogni puntata almeno 3 volte....bravissimi tutti....ma per favore mettete un traduttore.....Kiss dall Italia❤
Love the. Wedding
Beautiful wedding
Is the best video than i'm going to see, i love it
